hehe, thank you so much! i didn't even do that bingqiu parallel on purpose since i hadn't read canon at the time of writing this fic, but obviously depersonalization is one of the core themes in SVSSS. and i loooooove to have a partial backstory reveal- i did it in AVOTS too; i don't feel like the SVSSS characters need to know the entire truth about the transmigrators. in fact, i find it often narratively unsatisfying because that should be a beginning rather than a conclusion (if i learned i lived in a work of fiction i probably wouldn't be normal about anything anymore) so if i tackled that i'd also have to tackle their huge existential crisis about it. i much prefer for *just enough* to be revealed so they can solve the sticking point together. here, SQH and MBJ's problem wasn't so much the whole PIDW transmigration thing, it was SQH's deep conviction that MBJ's fated to kill him fucking everything up. he uses the curse excuse so MBJ will get off his back, but what he's doing is actually giving an explanation that's not UNtrue, that makes sense to them both, and that can be used as a placeholder to defuse the reason they were both miserable. it's way more fun to me to have characters talk around the thing, like you said!!
