I loved MBJ's interiority and SQH's interiority and the dream log(ist)ic(s) and the disquiet of the other world for MBJ (different/the extreme of foreign, making/proving SQH alien and them unable to connect, implying his world to be unreal, SQH's death, SQH disappearing and abandoning him because of being beckoned back there, SQH's world being so small and desolate and lonely and confined and restrictive, SQH's world offering him things MBJ can't provide). The BingQiu parallel with how frustrated and hurt MBJ was with SQH's PIDW knowledge and System inevitability biasing how he thought of and treated MBJ was amazing. SQH's control of the dream like an Author God was perfect. SQH and MBJ did so well with the System as a curse for MBJ to kill SQH and that they had to talk around! The Endless Abyss symbolism for the secrecy of the System and SQH being Author God was so good! My heart for MBJ wanting SQH with him as the most important thing and SQH accepting his new life and being changed and loving and wanting to be with MBJ and valuing this life--SQH is never going back to the "Real World". (I think I left out of my AVOTS comments, I also so much appreciated Airplane and SY embracing their second lives in AVOTS, such complete acceptance. I felt like they could die later, they could reincarnate with or without their memories, they could ascend, they could lose their demon lovers in their human ascension; they were as they should be with simplicity and acceptance and peacefulness over the future to come. I forget if I got different feelings about this with them in the 3rd AVOTS extra.)
Also I was tickled by Airplane's laptop and whether it really had a metal casing or really appeared to have a metal casing and factoring in "streamline writing and let MBJ be able to understand and describe the laptop better" and "what time and place can the prevalence and budget and preference for 'metal or metal appearing vs clearly plastic' laptop casing for SQH be pulled from".
hehe, thank you so much! i didn't even do that bingqiu parallel on purpose since i hadn't read canon at the time of writing this fic, but obviously depersonalization is one of the core themes in SVSSS. and i loooooove to have a partial backstory reveal- i did it in AVOTS too; i don't feel like the SVSSS characters need to know the entire truth about the transmigrators. in fact, i find it often narratively unsatisfying because that should be a beginning rather than a conclusion (if i learned i lived in a work of fiction i probably wouldn't be normal about anything anymore) so if i tackled that i'd also have to tackle their huge existential crisis about it. i much prefer for *just enough* to be revealed so they can solve the sticking point together. here, SQH and MBJ's problem wasn't so much the whole PIDW transmigration thing, it was SQH's deep conviction that MBJ's fated to kill him fucking everything up. he uses the curse excuse so MBJ will get off his back, but what he's doing is actually giving an explanation that's not UNtrue, that makes sense to them both, and that can be used as a placeholder to defuse the reason they were both miserable. it's way more fun to me to have characters talk around the thing, like you said!!
