Veronica “Vera” Propst had never been impressed by beautiful boys with clever mouths and empty eyes.
Tom Riddle was accustomed to being admired, feared, or obeyed. Vera did none of the three. She corrected him in History of Magic, prayed for him in forgotten rooms, and looked at him as if she could see the shape of his soul beneath his skin.
