normally i don't like reveal fics bc there's so much focus on "who you are now is an inherent lie and only the past you is the Real You" and i find that cringe bc both present you and past you should be the real you but this fic was great and i like that the reveal wasn't all "let's introduce the modern world and the complete backstory of airplane to mbj" but just them coming to an understanding of the iceberg tip of trouble sqh is suffering from. also the ant farm is so funny bc think about it. leisure sqh is relaxing bc he got tons of worker sqh handling all the an ding business. so he's leaving all the work to someone else but it's all still him. king of micromanagement LOL.
couldn't agree more!!! reveal fics make me sad because like you said they tend to depersonalize the PIDW characters with a reveal/reminder that PIDW is a work of fiction, which kinda depersonalizes the PIDW characters. i'm a sucker for Partial Reveal because indeed it's not ABOUT the modern world, who cares about the modern world, it's about Airplane and MBJ understanding each other a little more- MBJ by finally figuring out why Airplane is so terrified of him, Airplane by realizing MBJ wasn't just randomly beating him up due to how he was written, but reacting to Airplane's own behavior. It's about moving forward and coming together despite unfathomable differences!! that's what i love about the SVSSS setting! (i still have some ideas for Full Reveal fics but they'll be designed to avoid precisely what we're talking about here <3 lmao) and yeah the only way airplane could ever relax is if he's actually not relaxing at all, lol. poor guy
