It’s been a week since the incident at Rafael’s apartment and it’s bad. Olivia is refusing to talk to him, sending Amanda, Sonny and Fin to his office if he needs a file for their case. All they know is that Olivia came back to the precinct that day in tears and then shut herself in her office for the rest of the day muttering on how she never wants to see Rafael again, and praying that none of them saw the marks forming on her cheek

Rafael knows he brought this upon himself but after some soul-searching, he knows he can’t go on without ever talking to Liv again. So he decides to bite the bullet and visit her at her office. He walks in to the precinct and Carisi immediately calls out his name in alarm

Carisi: Barba!

Amanda and Fin stand up from there desks

Amanda: Counselor. You have a lot of nerve showing your face around here

Fin: I suggest you leave man. I don’t know what you did but whatever it is Olivia doesn’t want to see you, so you need to

B: Fin

Fin is surprised at Rafael using his first name

B: I know I hurt her and I’m never going to be able to forget that, but I have to at least try and fix it.

He turns to Amanda

B: Please

Amanda turns to Fin. Fin huffs

F: Fine. But keep the door open

Barba nods knowing that’s probably for the best. He walks over to Olivia’s office and slowly opens the door

At the sight of Rafael standing in her office doorway Olivia feels a mixture of fear and anger rising in her chest.

Olivia: You need to go

B: Please. I need to talk to you.

O: No

B; Please

In the sincere tone in his voice Olivia takes off her glasses and looks at him

O: Whatever Rafael

B: Ok um,

Rafael moves his tie aside and he shows her his crucifix

B: Look I was able to fix it

Wrong move. Olivia glares at him like she would a perp in an interrogation

O: Good for you.

The tone is harsh but Olivia knows how much that crucifix means to him. Still, that’s the last thing she wants to talk about. Olivia goes back to her work hoping he’ll take the hint

B; Liv, say something

O: What do you want me to say?

B: Anything. Yell at me, tell me I was wrong, tell me how I can fix this.

O: No yelling and anger is what caused this mess. I know you have a temper, but I can’t have you around Noah or I if it’s going to be an issue.

Her voice goes soft

O: Kids accidentally break things too

That breaks Rafael’s heart

B: Oh Liv. I’m sorry.

Olivia gets up from her desk and walks over to him, her voice starts to raise, but she keeps it level so as not to worry her squad.

O: You hit me Rafa. I can’t just forgive you like that. H ow are we supposed to come back from that?

B: Please let me show you, I don’t want to lose this,

O: I don’t want to lose it either Rafael. I know that wasn’t the real you the other day, but I can’t say that it didn’t scare me

B: I know. Please let me try to fix this

O: Okay.

For the first time in a week, Rafael smiles

O: You’re smiling Barba, why does that scare me?

B: I’m just happy you’re giving me another chance

And with that Rafael turns to leave her office. Olivia takes notice in how her saying she’s willing to try again changed the man’s demeanor so much

Olivia: There's something sweet

And almost kind

But he was mean and he was coarse and unrefined

She had the makeup covered bruise to prove it

O: And now he's dear, and so unsure

I wonder why I didn't see it there before

For the first time Olivia is truly starting to see Rafael for who he is.

A few days later Olivia and Rafael walk out of the courthouse after Johnson’s arraignment.

O: You did good Barba

B: Thanks Li-Lieutenant. Let me buy you a coffee

He turns to the coffee vendor

B: One dark roast two sugars and a vanilla latte with a hazelnut swirl

Olivia is pleasantly surprised. He knows her order

Suddenly it starts to snow and Olivia turns and brushes against Rafael’s hand. The same hand that hit her over a week ago. Rafael worries she’s going to get scared again but instead she gently grasps it and gives him a small smile

B: She glanced this way

I thought I saw

And when we touched she didn't shudder at my paw

Barba slightly shakes his head

B: No it can't be, I'll just ignore

Barba sees Olivia’s smile start to grow bigger

B: But then she's never looked at me that way before

Olivia feels a rush of joy wash over her. She’s never felt this way before, the fear from the week before is gone as she looks to the real man in front of her

O: New and a bit alarming

Who'd have ever thought that this could be

True that he's no Prince Charming?

But there's something in him that I simply didn't see

Rafael Barba is a good man

At that point Fin, Amanda and Sonny all walk out of the courthouse after the arraignment and Amanda notices it first

A: Guys.

C: What?

Carisi and Fin turn to see what Amanda is looking at

A: Is that Liv and Barba-holding hands!?

C: It sure is.

Fin: Well I’ll be.

C: Well, who'd have thought?

A: Well, bless my soul

F: Well, who'd have known?

A: Well, who indeed?

C: And who'd have guessed they'd come together on their own?

The three can’t help but chuckle when Rafael throws a snowball at a shocked Olivia, causing Olivia to wait for him to turn around before she throws one at him, hitting square in the back. Olivia starts laughing, and Rafael can’t help but revel in that sound. Amanda can’t help but smile like a schoolgirl.

A: It's so peculiar.

All three: We'll wait and see, a few days more

There may be something there that wasn't there before

Fin takes a second to look over at Olivia. When he sees his Lieutenant, his friend smiling in a way she’s never smiled before- he can’t help but smile too

F: You know, perhaps there's something there

That wasn't there before

As the two walk off unseemingly aware they had an audience, Amanda is busy hatching a plan to help their friends. She smiles a bit of a mischievous, but well-meaning smile to herself

A: There may be something there that wasn't there before
