    Summary

    After all this time, her heart doesn’t trip all over itself anymore at the sensation of being with Nayeon like this, when they’re pressed so closely and so intimately together. Instead, her heart hums in a quiet kind of joy, as if confirming what Sana already knows anyway: yes, this is home.

    Bookmarker's Notes

    She reaches out to tuck a strand of hair behind Nayeon’s ear, touch feather-light and almost reverent. Because Nayeon is ethereal . She feels like something out of a dream; like that faint sensation that lingers when you wake up and you can barely remember anything except for blurred flashes and a sweet ache beneath your ribs. Nayeon is that feeling — she’s love and happiness and home all at once.

    ///

    Nayeon is just untamed chaos and the raw eye of a hurricane. There are always other, infinitely larger things that Nayeon’s mind latches on to — a million and one thoughts that drive her to complete distraction, and Sana is always there to pocket the stardust left in her wake.

    ///

    Sana blinks at the question but then a second later, it clicks into place and she smiles gently. Because while Nayeon tends to get lost in her own head a lot and sometimes her thoughts come out in random fragments, it’s been five years and Sana can map out entire constellations from Nayeon’s scattered thoughts just as easily as if she’d known Nayeon for an entire lifetime.

    ///

    It’s not every day that Sana gets Nayeon like this: shy and bashful, an echo of their younger years in imaginary orbits and tentatively dancing around their blossoming feelings for each other. So, she just leans in and kisses Nayeon’s cheek, catching the edge of her pleased smile.

    ///

    The evening sky above them is a beautiful canopy of silver stars crowned with a glittering full moon. When Sana turns to look at Nayeon, she sees the stars reflected in Nayeon’s eyes and moonlight dancing on her face. Her breath catches; Nayeon is an even more beautiful sight to behold.

    ///

    “When you were younger, did you dream of — what did you imagine your wedding would look like when you got married one day?”

    ...

    Nayeon hums. “After watching our best friends get married earlier, I think I’d rather have an outdoor wedding. Somewhere quiet and intimate. Maybe somewhere that’s meaningful. It’ll be nice, I think, to get married in a place that holds precious memories.”

    “Like here,” Sana says, trying to keep her voice from quivering to match the way her heart is trembling beneath her ribs. “You, in a white dress, with all the pretty stadium lights and a sky full of stars.”

    A small crease appears on Nayeon’s brow. But she indulges Sana anyway. “Yes. I think that’ll be nice.”

    “Is that a yes?” Sana squeezes Nayeon’s hand and they stop walking.

    Nayeon’s frozen in place, staring at Sana for a long moment. “Wait, you mean —”

    “Yes,” Sana confirms, meeting Nayeon’s gaze steadily.

    She hears the wavering note in Nayeon’s voice, the edge of vulnerability underlying her words, as though Nayeon already knows exactly what Sana means but can’t quite believe it. She squeezes Nayeon’s hand again, offering comfort and an anchor for Nayeon to latch on to.

    “I thought — I thought we were having a hypothetical discussion about childhood dreams or — or fantasy weddings or something —”

    “Nayeonnie,” Sana interrupts gently before Nayeon talks herself into a flustered spiral. “Nayeon. I’m — I’m asking.”

    Nayeon just stares again. The silence lasts a little longer this time but Sana doesn’t say anything else. She just waits (she would wait forever, for however long Nayeon needs), trying to will her racing heart to quiet down so she can breathe.

    Nayeon doesn’t trust easily. She’s always held back from giving up parts of herself to others, even if she wears her heart on her sleeve.

    Bookmarker's Notes

    “If you’re going to kiss me,” she begins tremulously, holding Sana’s gaze and then letting herself drown in the oceans of Sana’s eyes. “Kiss me properly.”

    ...

    It’s extraordinary, kissing Sana like this. And Nayeon knows that after this, her world will be forever shaped by Sana's light in inexplicable ways.

    And nothing will ever quite be the same again.
