  2. Summary

Ongoing series of one-shots, character studies, and little moments in and around the Untamed TV show canon. Unconnected and in no particular order, but assume they exist at different points in the same universe. Because I've fallen into this fandom and can't get up.

    Summary

His eyes fell on the handle of the knife, still lying where he had dropped it. Half intact. Just enough to see the initials carved in the sloppy way of a child. Just enough to realize, somewhere deep behind the snarling in his chest, was a child who recognized them.

    All you do is run.

So he ran, the legacy ripping free like skin torn from a too-fresh wound, losing its purchase even as he grew more afraid, because it was the act of a coward, to run. The desperate last act of a dying child who had once been called Ajax.

    Maybe it was shame.
Maybe that was why he could never remember her face.

    Summary

But Zhongli whispers, his low voice rooted in the back of Childe’s mind. “Changsun, the merchant, who is never too Mora-enthralled to turn away a needy child. There’s Tiantian—she will allow anyone to join the Adventurer’s Guild—she knows what it is to be desperate.”
Childe ducks away from them and hurries out over the bridge. It’s a warm, sunny day, the kind he would have complained about, whining about his delicate Snezhnayan skin. “It’ll burn, or worse, freckle. Would you still like me if I was freckled?”
Then Zhongli would say, “The people of Liyue will remember your sacrifice.” And he would wrinkle his nose.

Or: after it all goes down, Childe takes a walk.

    Summary

Venti, for as long as he existed, has always yearned.

Yearned to relive fond memories of friends long gone, yearned to settle in warm palms and warmer embraces, yearned to hear his name by voices that can no longer call out.

Yearned to taste freedom with loved ones he can never see again.

Or: Venti has lived a long life, he will live longer still.

    Summary

Driven to his knees, his katana sent spinning across the floor, Ryuzo blew out a ragged breath between gritted teeth and waited for the end. Beyond the open shoji doors that led to the courtyard, under a starless sky, the air was thick with the sounds of people vomiting and screaming. Ryuzo bit down the words on his tongue, waiting. There was nothing left to say.

The snarling black mask Jin wore looked far less intimidating than the rage in his eyes as he walked closer, a bestial fury that Ryuzo had never seen Jin wear. Not even during that last disastrous ‘friendly’ duel between them. Not when they’d raided Mongol camps together.

It tore loose Ryuzo’s brief determination to keep his peace. “Jin. I’m sorry.”
