The first time Wei Ying arrives for work at Cloud Recesses Library, he is dressed as a fairy.
Lan Zhan is assisting an elderly customer with the library card application process when he notices a blur of black and bright green come tumbling through the front door. He finds a colleague who can take over the card application and goes to investigate.
Or: Lan Zhan is Head Librarian at Cloud Recesses Library, and Wei Ying has just been hired as the new Story Time performer.

Wei Wuxian is taking the train with A-Yuan early in the morning when he meets with Lan Wangji, who helps his son stay on his feet despite the bumpy ride and then distracts him with pictures of his pet bunnies. Turns out they take the same train every morning and soon, as they get to know each other better, feelings start to bloom.

"See you later, Wei Ying," Lan Wangji said as he opened the door in order to leave and saw, right in front of him, a bundle of blue blankets from out of which two little brown eyes were staring back at him.
What if A-Yuan was a doorstep baby?
- Part 21 of Family (is everything)

Wei Ying is exhausted, working all day and taking classes at night to get his degree in .. literally anything. He doesn’t care. He’s just trying to make a future for himself after being disowned by his adoptive family.
Wei Ying’s life is Not Going Well.
So it is slightly less than ideal when, alongside his takeout order, he finds a baby delivered to his doorstep.
An honest-to-god baby.
Like, tiny hands, tiny feet, tiny everything.
There’s a note pinned to the baby. A note with *his name* on it.
Meet your cousin, Yuan.
Please take care of him.”
How. What. Who. Why him? Who would trust him with a baby?
But it doesn’t matter. Because the baby is looking at him, with its big baby eyes, and Wei Ying might not know whose kid it is, but he isn’t going to leave a baby on his doorstep.
2 years later, Wei Ying has dropped out of school. He’s managed to find work as an administrative assistant at a major company, thanks to his jiejie’s peacock pulling some strings. Unfortunately, he has a new boss, who just so happens to be his old high school classmate, the most stuck-up man on the planet who Wei Ying is definitely *not* crushing on.

“I date!” Wei Ying protests, “I could be dating. You don’t know my life A-Yuan. I could be going on plenty of dates.” He’s not. He occasionally finds a booty call on tinder or grindr or whatever miscellaneous dating app he has on his phone at the time, but he hasn’t even done that in a while.
“When? You’re pretty much always with me when you’re not at work.”
“Maybe I’m a secret agent, living a double life, raising you nights and weekends and solving crimes with a partner during the day. I could pull it off, you know?”
“Dad,” A-Yuan says seriously.
Wei Ying blinks at him and says “Wei Yuan,” in his best imitation of seriousness.
In which Wei Ying is a young single father whose son is possibly scheming to set him up with his history teacher.
