So, here’s the thing.
Luz has had crushes before.
She’s just- never been friends with any of them, until now.
From attempted dissection to Grom Queens to exploring the Forbidden Stacks, Luz and Amity have come far since they've met. Step-by-step they've gone from enemies to rivals to friends to... something too quiet to put to name. It's strange- Amity smiles, and Luz can hardly remember why they ever clashed in the first place. They've both been changed in so many ways, and only for the better.
And maybe Luz is a bit behind on where they stand right now, but hey, she's sure to catch up fast.
The thing is presented as a gift, because of course it is.
It’s a pendant. Small and petite, with a casual black cord wrapped around a gorgeous stone the color of Mother’s Oracle track.
“It’s.. for me?” Amity asks disbelievingly. It looks expensive- she’s not totally unused to handling non-cheap objects, but she’s never owned any of them before now.
“Why yes, dear, of course,” Mother croons, leaning over her and draping it around her neck. “It looks beautiful on you. And, look! It matches mine!” She leans back, taps a new, similar-looking piece hanging around her own neck. “Isn’t that nice?”
Amity nods enthusiastically. She knows full-well that Mother’s always been disappointed by the color of her hair - brunette, like Father’s, not at all like her siblings’ - and she’s touched that Mother had thought to buy matching stones. Maybe this is her way of saying look, we can be similar, too. She hopes so.
How Amity Blight hopes too much of her parents and then gets disappointed, the fic.

“Adam!” Blake says, blinking rapidly. She looks back to where Yang’s standing, but her gaze doesn't focus. She can't see her anymore. Her shoulders slump even if there’s no logical reason she should be disappointed, and Yang would shout that she’s still here if she didn't know it wouldn't do any good.
“I thought I told you we’d meet at the Square,” the man says gruffly. There’s a warning in his tone and a tight power in his shoulders that makes even Weiss, still looking away, want to punch him. “I don't need you waiting on me.”
“Sorry,” she says, a second too late, “I- I thought I saw something.”
They're soulmates, simple as that.
(its not simple at all)
Beside her, Jaune shifts, tearing his eyes away from them and re-focusing on his boots like he doesn't quite know what to say. Then, “they’re- they're in love, aren't they.” It's not a question.
“Yeah,” she says, because she’s never lied to him, not once. “That’s what I think, at least.”
On the way to Atlas, Blake and Yang are not subtle. They've just gone through a traumatizing experience together, and have finally made up. They're far past regular partners now, and Jaune notices. After all, he knows exactly what that looks like. He's felt it, too.

(SPOILERS FOR V8 C13)
Xiao Long blinks down at Yang, just as confused as the rest of them; waves awkwardly. That’s when Yang notices that she doesn’t seem to have a prosthetic. Just two normal hands. The realization plants a stone in her stomach, heavy and dull. “Uh- hey, what’s up?”
“Nothing much,” Yang responds, crossing her arms over her chest. She’s very out of her depth here. “Just trapped in some kind of alternate world with older versions of my team and myself. How are you?”
“Well, I’m looking at my younger self, so-” she taps a finger against her temple. “-Not doing great up here. Mental gymnastics, actually. Uh?” She turns to her team, who are all watching with differing levels of amusement. “Someone wanna fill me in?”
Blake laughs softly, taking pity on her. “You know about as much as the rest of us,” she says, “we were just all talking when we heard a thump coming from upstairs; when we went to investigate, she was passed out in our bed.”
(Our bed? Yang thinks, confused. What does she..?)
Yang falls, and finds herself in a world that she recognizes but doesn't know. And the people? They're just as weird.
