"If I had any courage, I should have left you years ago": what effect will a devastating bout of drunken honesty have on Christine's marriage? And — with the Persephone already two days out from Cherbourg — is it too late to avert the tragedy of Coney Island? A love story with a difference.

Quite possibly the single Phantom/LND related fic I have read most often. A beautiful and tender exploration of marriage gone wrong-- a marriage that could perhaps be healed again.

    Summary

“I know you well enough.” Javert’s voice was an acerbic rasp. “That knife suits you better."
    “Hush. Be still.”
Valjean's rough fingers were under his chin now, somehow avoiding the rope that sank its teeth deeper into him with every motion, and tilting his head upwards with a surprisingly gentle grip.

There is always bitterness and spite when Valjean and Javert clash. Sometimes, to Javert's dismay, there is also kindness.

    Summary

The door is smaller than he remembers, which shouldn’t surprise him. He’s gotten taller since he left, although not by much - he had most of his height by the time he left, when he was fifteen and his father began to waste away. He wonders for a moment if his departure was one of the causes, and finds it is another thing he cannot blame the Romanovs for any longer.

After the gunshots, there are silence. If there are no gunshots, what fills the hole they leave in the universe?

Or: character musings on Gleb Vaganov, after he fails to kill the Grand Duchess Anastasia.

    Summary

“I - am leaving Leningrad.” Anya puts a hand over Gleb’s mouth before he can argue, and though his lips move against her palm for a moment, she can almost ignore the pain in his eyes. “There’s nothing to do about it, Gleb. Please.” He always wants to fix things, her officer, and if he begs her not to go, she might just listen. She can feel tears welling behind her eyes, and she knows he is trying to figure her out all over again. He won’t succeed. “Please. Don’t try.”

    Anya says goodbye.
