“Come on, A-Cheng!” Wei Ying says. “Think of all the hapless youths who are watching hanguang_jun’s channel and being duped into thinking that’s what university is like! It’s not fair on the kids!”
Jiang Cheng appears to be entirely unmoved by this highly logical argument.

Outside, it’s grown dark and the air smells faintly of woodsmoke and petrol and car exhaust fumes; all the familiar autumn London scents. Lan Wangji is glad for his jacket. Without the sun, the wind cuts through him. He looks at Wei Wuxian’s thin tunic and thinks, He must be cold.
“Ahh,” Wei Wuxian sighs, taking a deep breath in. “I love the smell of September. Always reminds me of that back-to-school feeling, you know? It makes me think of new beginnings.”
He looks directly at Lan Wangji when he says new beginnings. Lan Wangji swallows.
A love story told through various acts of civil disobedience, visits to London landmarks, activist rallies, and elaborate cooking endeavours.

“Perhaps I should tell you—” Lan Zhan begins, and then stops.
“Tell me…” Wei Ying prompts. He knows exactly what’s coming—I’m dating someone, I have a boyfriend. I’m married, maybe. Lan Zhan had never seemed like the marrying type, but he could have changed his mind.
So that’s where Wei Ying’s thoughts are when Lan Zhan says, “I’m an eco-terrorist.”
Wei Ying chokes on his drink.

“You should make a Tinder account for campaigning,” Nie Huaisang says.
Wei Ying chokes out, “What?”
“Sounds like an absolutely terrible idea,” Jiang Cheng says flatly.
“No, it’s a great idea!” Nie Huaisang insists. “You just swipe right on everyone and then send them a message about how they should vote for you. You’re hot, Wei Ying! People will definitely match with you and then you can swoop in and hit them with the politics!”
“I don’t even have Tinder,” Wei Ying protests. He’d downloaded the app in first year but had quickly deleted it after a girl responded to his message of wanna get a drink with yeah sure, what time?
“That can be easily fixed,” Nie Huaisang says.
Wei Ying downloads Tinder to help him campaign for his student union election. He gets a little more than he bargained for.

“New idea,” Jin Zixuan says, appearing out of nowhere as soon as Lan Zhan sets one foot in the door. “Garden landscaping—Yanli’s always complaining about how terrible and overgrown her backyard is. I could redo it, plant some flowers, maybe even dig a pond—”
“Have you been lying in wait to ask me that all day?” Lan Zhan interrupts to ask. “Also: no. Do not dig Yanli a pond.”
“Why not?” Jin Zixuan says. “Don’t you think it’s a good idea? Yanli’s always saying how much she misses the lake near her parents’ house—it would be a little piece of home!”
Lan Zhan thinks of Wei Ying. He wonders if Wei Ying misses the lake too. Whether he might like a pond.
Jin Zixuan is hopeless when he has a crush. It turns out that Lan Zhan is even worse.
