“Weather alerts… message from Team Snapchat… Julia texted you. So did someone named Kady. And— yep, so did Eliot.” Quentin can feel the sidelong glance his dad is giving him. “This is that Eliot, right? One L?”

    “Yeah,” Quentin says, remaining calm.

“Well, he’s definitely been texting you.” His dad’s voice is the absolute platonic ideal of Nosy parent prodding their recalcitrant kid about his love life. “So maybe your crush isn’t as unrequited as you think.”

    Summary

"I don't get why it's such a big deal," Julia says. "If you ask me, Eliot seems like the kind of guy who'd think it's flattering that you're having sex dreams about him."

And, well. Quentin's not sure that Julia's wrong about that, but he's feeling vulnerable enough without having to contemplate Eliot's inevitable condescension. Not to mention the fact that— "These aren't just sex dreams, Jules. They're like. Visceral. Like, they feel completely real right up until I—" Come. "—wake up. They're detailed. Graphic. It's like I'm— I'm basically sexually assaulting my friend in my sleep."

"Yeah?" Julia pops another cereal flake in her mouth. "And?"

    Summary

“The chicken salad is like—a sacrifice for the old gods?” Quentin grins. “You’re so full of shit.”

Something in Eliot’s chest cracks open, warmth spilling into his veins. Quentin’s dimples have to be illegal. “I assure you I am not. It’s vitally important to welcome the vernal equinox with aplomb. Honoring our ancient forebears.”

“Isn’t it, like, very Eurocentric? Like, Ostara is Norse. We talk about honoring Bacchus and, like, Iris. And it’s just not—” Quentin, infuriatingly, gives Eliot a mansplainy little shrug. “I mean, there are lots of rituals to honor spring. Multiculturally.”

Eliot sniffs. “This one has the best sexual rites, I assure you.”

“I dunno. I bet you could add the best, uh, sexual rites to whatever you put your mind to.” Quentin taps on his glass, his eyes darting away before he takes a sip. His eyes flutter shut in pleasure, and Eliot’s stomach, traitorous, flips over. A leftover emotion, surely, since Eliot is over all things Q. Well, mostly. It was just the one kiss, incandescent in his memory, like something within him had split open, new growth climbing through him where there had only been lifeless blankness before.

It hasn't been on Eliot's mind at all.

    Summary

“Tell you what,” Eliot says with a smile that sends a shiver down Quentin’s spine. “I’ll go jet skiing. If you agree to go out dancing tomorrow night.”

Quentin frowns, looking down. “Why do you want me to go out dancing? You know I’m—”

Now Eliot is the one rolling his eyes. “So you’ve said. ‘A horrible dancer.’”

He takes a step closer, and Quentin forces himself to stay in place, even as his heart picks up speed and his eyes flicker up to Eliot’s chest.

“I want to go out dancing and I want you to come with me. And I want you,” Eliot says, and Quentin’s eyes snap up to his face. He’s staring down at Quentin, his eyes a darker shade of amber as his mouth pulls up into a smile that Quentin instantly remembers from many dark nights at the mosaic. “To dance with me. Deal?”

Quentin holds his breath as he stares back, his mind reeling with Is this a date? Is he asking me on a date? Of course not, don’t be— “Yes,” he finally chokes out. “I’ll go dancing. If you go out on a jet ski with me.”

Eliot takes a step back, becoming more relaxed. “Deal,” he says. “Now let’s pack up our shit and go rent a jet ski.”

The gang goes on vacation. They deserve one, don’t they?
