    Summary

Thursday gave a mirthless chuckle. “You’re asking the wrong man, lad,” he said. “You’re the one who suggested it."

DeBryn cut in. “That is, you suggested it five days ago. And then you vanished.”

(AKA, Morse wakes up in a telephone booth and calls Thursday.)

    Summary

NOVEMBER 1969—A London gangster is found hanging by his neck in a 17th century mansion in the middle of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. When Dr. DeBryn declares his death suspicious, Scotland Yard sends one of their own to aid in the investigation. Morse, for once in his life, is grateful for the extra help. But as the case stretches on and deeper historical ties are revealed, it seems that there is less and less reason for anyone to have killed a man.

    Summary

Joan Thursday and Shirley Trewlove are very much deeply in love (and surrounded by love on all sides).

“Morning,” Shirley mumbles finally, stretching with an ungraceful noise, her eyes screwed up tightly before disappearing more fully under the duvet.

Joan snorts. “You won’t get ready for work down there.” She feels Shirley’s forehead against her bare thigh and a groan emanates loudly from the warm shadows of the bed. Joan laughs, lifting her arms so she can stare down into the sepia yellows of the sunlight through their sheets. Shirley’s blonde plait slides off her shoulder and spools across her knee. “Come on, Shirl, up you get.”

    Summary

Peter and Morse have another case near Lake Silence at the imposing Carcester House, the murder of Eric Forrest, scholarship boy living side by side with one of the posh sets that put Peter's teeth on edge. In other news, Morse should stop having a mouth and fingers and pretty eyes.

He drifts out again calling over his shoulder, “Have you got any ties I can borrow?”

He rolls his eyes, grabbing his suit jacket and an extra tie out of his wardrobe. “How the hell do you run out of ties?”

Morse turns around from where he’s grabbing the jam out of Peter’s cupboard. “Yesterday’s was my last one and I was going to do a wash last night but there was that paperwork…” He waves the plate at him before dropping it and the jam on the table. “Bit burnt, sorry. And then my pen exploded so now – Have you got any extra pens?”

    Summary

In which Morse finds in Lewis a home he didn’t know he needed, and then must discover how much he fears losing it.

Sergeant Robert Lewis and Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse are two very different sorts of people. Despite that, or perhaps because of it, their partnership is like a spark rising from the ashes. Morse trusts Lewis's instincts, and Lewis trusts Morse’s skill. The question is: can they learn to rely on each other's friendship as well?

    Summary

Peter Jakes can't believe Morse almost got eaten by a tiger, only in Oxford. He supposes it's only natural that Morse would have nightmares about it, although all he can offer is milk and biscuits.

“I don’t know what I’m doing here,” says Morse, but he doesn’t get up.

Peter nudges the packet of biscuits closer to him. “What were you dreaming about?”

“Today.” Morse takes one, his fingers are slightly shaky. “The tiger. What about you?”

“The tiger,” he agrees. Morse looks almost surprised, like he didn’t almost die today, like that’s not worth Peter’s time to be dreaming about.

    Summary

Peter Jakes can hear opera music which means one of two things: he has just moved into the flat next to a serial murderer or he has just moved into the flat next to Morse. (He's not sure which would be worse.)

You can always tell when a case is going to be a big one just by the way Morse reads the incident report, something in the way his head cocks to the side like something isn’t quite right and before you know it there’s three more murders, two accomplices, no witnesses, and several instances of police corruption. In the wide and varied opinions and experiences of Peter Jakes, the look on Morse’s face now – mouth wrinkles deepening to icy crevasses, eyes hard and thoughtful, pen stopped clicking – this is a Morse case.

Peter can pick it up too. Four bodies, a note, DeBryn heading to the scene now – It’s a big one. It thrums in the dust dancing in the sunbeams through the window, smudges up against Morse’s ink stained hands, rattles the blinds, fumbles in the silent choke of his cigarette smoke swirling dizzily up to the ceiling. It’s a big one.

    Summary

    “She’s under the wise oak.”

One phone call. One body. What starts out as a suspected April Fools prank ends up being something far more grotesque than anyone at CID could hope to imagine when a convicted killer and ex-copper contacts Morse from behind bars to send a message to Inspector Thursday, leading Morse and Jakes to the prison in search of answers. What they don’t expect is to be caught up in a trap. And they're the bait.

    Summary

    A reimagining of series 1 episode 3.

I've always thought Reg Tracepurcel in 'Rocket' would make a great slimy opportunistic low rent gigolo along the lines of Joey Lisk in 'Sway'. And who doesn’t love an abrasive vaguely sinister bisexual slut who's always angling for some?

Obviously this means making some big changes to the plot and whodunnit etc

In this fic Reg plays the cat among the pigeons at British Imperial, following his own agenda as a sort of puckish freewheeling lothario who will try his luck anywhere, and he has no qualms about snarling up a perfectly good royal visit - or a perfectly good murder investigation - in the process.

    Summary

There were many things Fred Thursday had not expected when he had requested to be transferred to Oxford. He certainly could never have foreseen that he would arrest an opera star for murder, and the tiger had been a nasty surprise.
This, however, took the bloody biscuit.
There was a child huddled in a corner of the room he could have sworn he had seen Morse enter only a few moments ago.
He raised his head and Fred’s breath caught in his throat. No. Absolutely impossible.
But he’d have recognised those eyes everywhere.
Forcing himself to stay as calm as he could, he asked, “Morse? Is that you?”
