Some Things Just Make Sense (And One of Those Is You and I)

Chapter Text

They met at a bar, Hoseok laid eyes on a short blonde who was surrounded by others dressed similarly to himself: skinny jeans, snapbacks, and basketball shoes that probably never actually saw a court and cost more than Hoseok’s rent. They may all have had the same style, but the blonde was the one who caught his eye.

Within twenty minutes the two were in the bathroom of the dingy dive bar, making out in a stall. Yoongi, Hoseok learned his name only moments before they ended up in the bathroom, was rough. His kisses were all teeth and tongue and the grip he kept on Hoseok was tight, almost bruising.

“Let’s go to my place.” Yoongi whispered into Hoseok’s ear. All it took was a nod before the two of them take off.

This is how Hoseok finds himself in the other man’s bed two years later. He stretches as he rolls over on his side, taking in the view in front of him. Yoongi’s naked back is to him and Hoseok can’t help but smirk at the nail marks running down from his shoulders to his lower back. He almost wants to reach out and run his fingers over the scratches, but instead he lets out a sigh and stands up. He can’t wake the other up and he definitely can’t stay and chit-chat. That’s how people catch feelings and he and Yoongi have an agreement. No feelings. No strings attached. That’s how they both like it and that’s how they’ll keep it.

Hoseok shimmies into his pants and slips on his shirt as he tries not to wince at the dull pain in his lower back. No matter how many times they’d done this, Yoongi still made it feel like the first time and Hoseok doesn’t know if he loves or hates that. He isn’t going to dwell on it, isn’t going to think about it, because once he steps outside of the other man’s bedroom he and Min Yoongi are hardly even acquaintances.

He makes his way from the other’s bedroom to the living room, stopping only to slip on his white converse. He wonders for a moment how many times he’s done this, how this became routine for him, because he hears Namjoon yelling out a ‘bye Hoseok!’ from the kitchen. He hears Seokjin, Namjoon’s boyfriend, giggle before saying his goodbye, as well. He and Yoongi aren’t even friends, so he wonders at what point he became so comfortable here that he knows Yoongi’s roommates by name or when he got the courage to let himself in and out of the two bedroom apartment without being escorted. He isn’t rude, though, so he offers his own goodbye before he leaves the two bedroom behind along with Min Yoongi.

He arrives at his own apartment only five minutes later, it’s a short walk and an even shorter drive. He supposes that’s why he likes what he and Yoongi have. It’s easy and convenient and extremely close to his own home, so even if he’s drunk he can find his way home without any problems. He kicks off his own shoes and grunts when he hears his roommate, Jimin, and his boyfriend, Jungkook, laughing in the kitchen. He didn’t walk away from one happy couple just to walk in on another.

“Jungkook, stop it!” Jimin snorts and Hoseok looks up just in time to see the two younger men splashing water at each other while washing dishes.

“You stop it!” Jungkook retorts and Hoseok has half a mind to throw his shoe at them. Instead he decides to clear his throat. “Oh! Hyung, you’re home!”

“Were you at Yoongi’s?” Jimin asks, even though he already knows the answer. Hoseok nods and Jimin offers him his famous smile. “How was that?”

“It was how it always is, Jimin.” Hoseok rolls his eyes at his roommate, earning a pout in return.

“C’mon, no progress?” Jungkook asks.

It’s almost annoying how much Hoseok and Yoongi’s friends want them to date, they don’t understand that the two of them have a good thing going. Hoseok doesn’t want to mess it up by getting feelings involved. It’s pointless, anyway, because they’re not compatible at all. Hoseok is bubbly and friendly with everyone, Hoseok is nice. Yoongi is not. Yoongi is mean and brooding, he’s quiet and anti-social, only going out when he’s performing or when one of his three friends are. To be honest, Hoseok doesn’t know any more about Yoongi than the fact that he’s a rapper and hates the world. He doesn’t even know when the other’s birthday is. He has a general idea, some time at the end of February or early March because he vaguely remembers spending the night with Yoongi and having great sex all day and night for his past two birthdays around that time, but he couldn’t tell you the exact day. Two years of this song and dance and he doesn’t even know Yoongi’s birthday, how fucked up is that? Hoseok will shrug it off and say that it’s not a big deal because they’re not even friends. They’re just two people who share a mutual attraction to each other. Nothing more. Nothing less.

He gets a text later that night.

Yoongi: You up?

Jung Hoseok: Yeah. What’s up?

Yoongi: Last minute performance came up. You wanna come out to watch?

Hoseok sighs and glances at the clock. It’s 10:30 and usually when Yoongi performs it isn’t until after midnight, he’s always the main event. As much as Hoseok likes going to the other man’s shows, he’s tired and he has an exam in the morning. He doesn’t particularly feel like going out, so unfortunately he has to opt out. He snaps a photo of himself without a shirt on, making the sexiest face he can muster as an apology.

Jung Hoseok: Not tonight, but good luck.

Jung Hoseok: [Image sent]

Jung Hoseok: Just a little confidence booster for later ;)

Downtown Yoongi grins as he opens up the photo. He would have liked to have Hoseok there after the performance to relieve a little post-show stress, but he supposes that he can use the photo to get himself off later on and he’ll take what he can get.

He likes Hoseok. Not in a romantic way, but in a way where he can actually be around the other for more than five minutes without wanting to kill him. Though, he supposes they don’t spend more than five minutes together without one or both of them naked, so that might help a little bit. Hoseok is hot, anyone can see that, but he’s also good at not asking questions or getting too personal. He’s out of the apartment before Yoongi wakes up in the mornings and doesn’t get upset if the two of them spend the entire night together without muttering one word to each other. Hoseok is simple and Yoongi appreciates it.

Yoongi only performs four or five songs, he keeps it quick because he wants to get back home. Namjoon and Jiho couldn’t come out with him tonight, so he’s alone in public and that makes him more uncomfortable than he’d like to admit. Yoongi isn’t social, he doesn’t like to meet people and he doesn’t like to mingle with the crowd. That’s why as soon as he’s off stage, he’s out the back door and on his way to his car.

He’s almost to the car, he has his hand in his pocket reaching for the keys, when he feels something heavy on top of him. He falls to the ground and groans in pain. He tries to pick himself up and yell at whoever fell on him, but they’re off running in the other direction before he even notices the blood pooling around himself. Once his eyes land on the puddle, he feels a sting in his side and suddenly loses the strength he had. It’s hot, so hot he wishes he could take off all of his clothes because the heat is unbearable, but he can’t move. Did he get stabbed? He reaches down to his side to make sure, whining softly when he brings his hand up to see it covered in blood. He needs to get to a hospital, he’s starting to feel the heat dig deeper inside of him and he knows that it has to be a pretty deep wound because he won’t stop bleeding.

The last thing he does before passing out is call Namjoon.

Hoseok hasn’t heard from Yoongi in a week. Usually they’ll go a few days without talking, but never a week. They’re both too sexually charged to go so long without each other. Something must be wrong, that or maybe Yoongi has met someone else to fool around with. The thought actually makes Hoseok laugh out loud because the idea of Yoongi even speaking to someone else is ridiculous. He sighs as he pulls out his phone, deciding it's been too long and quite honestly, Hoseok just wants to fuck.

Jung Hoseok: Hi.

Yoongi: Hey there.

Jung Hoseok: You have time tonight?

Yoongi: Yeah, probably. I can't really go anywhere, but you can come here if you want. Be warned- Seokjin is being a crazy mom right's so annoying.

Jung Hoseok: Lol crazy mom??

Yoongi: I got stabbed at that show a week ago and apparently it's pretty bad. Idk I just got home from the hospital yesterday and Jin won't stop fussing over me. The doctor said I can still fuck, but you'll probably have to ride me because I can't disturb my stitches by moving around too much.

Jung Hoseok: You got fucking stabbed?!

Hoseok doesn't know why he's upset, but he'll say it's probably because his fuck buddy may or may not be out of commission. He isn’t completely heartless and he is a decent human being so he worries, but only a little bit. The younger man frowns before hopping out of bed and slipping on a pair of joggers and a t-shirt. He doesn’t even say bye to his roommate before he leaves the apartment and drives to Yoongi’s place.

When he gets to Yoongi’s apartment, he doesn’t even knock, he just uses the spare key taped to the light next to the door and lets himself in. Namjoon looks up from his spot on the couch, confused for only a moment, before he registers that it’s only Hoseok and goes back to writing in his notebook.

“Don’t forget to tape the key back before you leave tomorrow.” He mumbles as Hoseok toes off his shoes, but the barely older boy doesn’t respond. Instead he makes his way straight to Yoongi’s room and swings the door open. Yoongi is sitting upright with his shirt pulled over his shoulder as Seokjin cleans the wounded area. It looks bad, Hoseok thinks, and he wonders how it looked the night Yoongi got stabbed. He chews on his lower lip as he thinks about how he rejected the other’s offer to go to the performance. If he had been there, maybe this wouldn’t have happened and the younger man almost feels guilty.

“Hi, Hoseok. I’m just about done here.” Seokjin says as he rubs ointment on Yoongi’s irritated skin. “If you guys are going to have sex, please be careful. I’m worried that Yoongi’s stitches might be infected.”

Hoseok nods in response as Seokjin stands and offers him a smile. There’s an awkward pause before Seokjin just nods and makes his past Hoseok out of the bedroom. For a moment, Hoseok stands in the center of the room, eyeing the brunette rapper. He won’t admit it out loud, but with Yoongi sitting in his bed with his natural hair color and looking ten pounds lighter than usual, Hoseok thinks he looks vulnerable and kind of cute. He’d used many words in the past to describe Min Yoongi - hot, sexy, a walking wet-dream, but never cute. Cute just seemed too lovey dovey for Hoseok’s taste.

“Hey, babe.” Yoongi greets him with a raised eyebrow and Hoseok snorts before making his way to the bed. He sits at the edge because he isn’t quite sure how close he can get, yet, and pulls his legs to his chest.

“Hi.” Hoseok mumbles, unsure of why he feels so awkward all of the sudden. It’s not like anything is different for them so he chalks it up to sympathy and tells himself he just needs to get laid for everything to be normal again. “How’re you feeling?”

“Kinda shitty, but I think you can make that better.” Yoongi smirks and pats the spot next to him. “I got stabbed, I’m not sick with the bubonic plague so you can sit next to me if you want.”

Hoseok rolls his eyes before crawling to the spot next to the rapper and grins, leaning forward so that he can meet the other half way for a kiss. It was supposed to be a quick peck, but Yoongi pulls Hoseok by the back of the head so that he’s straddling him and before Hoseok can protest they’re locked in a heated makeout session. Hoseok whines into the elder’s mouth before grinding downwards onto Yoongi’s crotch. He smirks when he receives a groan in response.

“Even when you’re crippled you can get hard for me, huh?”

Yoongi is easy, Hoseok thinks, because it doesn’t take much to turn the other man on. Hell, Hoseok can be doing nothing and have Yoongi as putty in his hands if he wanted to. Hoseok thinks it’s their chemistry, how their entire relationship dynamic is based on one thing and one thing alone. Everything between the two of them is based on sex and that’s how Hoseok likes it. So as he rips off his own shirt while the older man grips his ass and kneads the flesh there, he thinks that nothing could ruin what the two of them have. Not Yoongi getting stabbed, not their annoying roommates, and especially not the stupid feelings that most people would have caught by now.

And when he’s sliding down Yoongi’s cock, one hand wrapped around the other’s throat and the other balled into the sheets, he’s ecstatic to know that things between the two of them will never change.

Things do change, though, because the next morning when he usually sneaks out of the bedroom as the elder sleeps, he finds Yoongi already awake and watching TV. Seokjin is cleaning Yoongi’s stitches again and Hoseok has the decency to be embarrassed that he and Yoongi are both naked from the night before.

“Oh! Good morning, Hoseok!” Seokjin chirps when he notices the younger man is awake. “I just finished making breakfast, so go ahead and help yourself. I’m just cleaning Yoongi up here before we eat.”

“Oh, no...that’s okay.” Hoseok smiles awkwardly and clears his throat. “I can’t, uh, get up until you leave, though. I’m a little...indecent at the moment.”

Yoongi laughs at that, but winces when Seokjin accidentally pushes down on his wound.

“Sorry!” Seokjin mumbles to both of them before standing and smiling. “Well, I’ll let you guys get dressed, but I hope you stay for breakfast!”

With that he turns on his heel and exits the bedroom. Hoseok clears his throat before throwing the blanket off of himself and searching the floor for his clothes.

“You can borrow something of mine.” Yoongi offers and Hoseok stills from his spot on the floor. He looks up at Yoongi, who is now standing above him and smirking. “But while you’re down there…”

Hoseok rolls his eyes before standing up and placing his hands on his hips.

“Just...give me some clothes, I have to get back home soon.”

“Stay with me.” Yoongi says quietly as he makes his way into the walk in closet in the corner of his room. “I mean, Seokjin and Namjoon are going to Jin’s parents’ house for the week and I’m going to be bored...stay with me for a little while so I don’t die of boredom.”

And while Hoseok would usually flat out refuse, he does feel a small fraction of guilt for not being with Yoongi the night of the show, so he takes the sweatpants offered to him and nods before following the elder into the living room.

Namjoon and Seokjin are just as annoying and sickeningly sweet as Jimin and Jungkook, Hoseok learns.

“Baby, you can’t just- no! Namjoon!” Seokjin laughs as Namjoon tries his best to clean up the plate of food he’d dropped on the floor.

“Fucking idiot.” Yoongi snorts as he shoves a piece of toast in his mouth. “How hard is it to get a cloth and wipe up your mess?”

“Apparently it’s harder than mechanical engineering.” Seokjin teases as he leans down to help Namjoon clean.

“Mechanical engineering? Is that your major?” Hoseok asks and Namjoon nods with a pout as his lover shoos him out of the kitchen. “Oh! That’s my roommate’s boyfriend’s major, as well.”

“Who’s your roommate’s boyfriend?” Namjoon asks as he sits down next to Hoseok with a smile.

“Jeon Jungkook he’s a sophomore, do you know him?”

“Oh! He’s in one of the classes I assist in. He’s pretty smart.” Namjoon tells him and Hoseok nods.

“Yeah, that kid is a golden child. Super athletic, super smart, super talented in everything he does. It’s kind of annoying, but I like him because he treats my roommate well.”

“Namjoon treats Seokjin well, too.” Yoongi says, although really he feels like it doesn’t do anything to add to the conversation. He just wants to have his voice heard and Hoseok wonders if the other is more talkative around his roommates than he is with his fuck buddy.

“These are the most words I’ve ever heard you speak.” Hoseok jokes and Yoongi shrugs at that before reaching across the table and stealing the toast on the fresh plate Seokjin brings out for Namjoon.

Hoseok watches as the three interact, Seokjin dotes on the other two hand and foot and if he didn’t know better he might wonder just who Seokjin was dating. Yoongi offers Seokjin smiles that Hoseok has never seen and Namjoon seems to not care at all how easily Seokjin leans in to fix Yoongi’s bangs or to just be in his personal space in general.

“How long have you guys been dating?” Hoseok asks Namjoon in an attempt to draw attention to the fact that Seokjin and Namjoon are indeed a couple.

“Two years? Ish.” Namjoon says with a shrug and Yoongi snorts.

“You guys have been dating for almost four years, idiot.”

“You’re both wrong.” Seokjin says with a pout, plopping down into Namjoon’s lap and smirking when the younger man lets out an ‘oomph’. “It’s been three years and three months.”

“Really? Has it been that long?” Namjoon asks, furrowing his eyebrows as he uses his hand to count how long he’d been courting the elder. “Oh, shit, you’re right. We just celebrated our anniversary.”

“Wow, you’re the best boyfriend in the world.” Yoongi tells him before clearing his throat. “What time are you guys taking off and when are you coming back?”

“We’ll probably leave in an hour or so and we’ll be back on Monday before Namjoon’s first class.” Seokjin says, reaching over to pinch Namjoon’s cheek. “My baby’s gotta get his education, after all.”

Namjoon swats lazily at Seokjin’s hand before he catches it in his own and brings it to his lips.

“Oh! Jin’s parents have a graduation gift for you, Yoongi. It’s pretty fucking cool.” Namjoon perks up and Seokjin whines.

“It was supposed to be a surprise! We’re not even supposed to give it to him until he actually graduates.”

“Graduation is in a couple of months, I can take an early gift.” Yoongi says with a smile before glancing at Hoseok. “Jin’s parents are loaded as fuck and they love me to death. Way more than they like Namjoon.”

“You graduate this semester?” Is all Hoseok can take away from the conversation and Yoongi nods. “How did I not know that?”

“Well, I guess it never really came up.” Yoongi shrugs before clapping a hand down on Hoseok’s thigh.

“What is your major?” Hoseok asks as he picks at the fingers resting on his leg.

“Psychology. I doubt I’m actually going to use my degree, though. I make plenty of money rapping...I just came to school to keep my parents from murdering me.”

Suddenly Hoseok has a million and one questions for Yoongi. Like does he come from money? Why psychology? What is he going to do after he graduates? What’s going to happen to them and their arrangement?

And Hoseok suddenly feels the urge to run because this is how it starts. When you start asking questions and learning about someone else, that’s how you get attached. Two years and Hoseok has skated by without catching any sort of feelings for the older man, so why is he suddenly so curious about what Yoongi is doing? Why does he feel a hint of jealousy every time Seokjin brings up something about Yoongi that Hoseok doesn’t know. He glances around the kitchen and shakes his head. No, no, no. This is a misunderstanding, that’s all. He can’t start having feelings for Yoongi overnight, that’s not how it works. Once Seokjin and Namjoon leave, he and Yoongi will fuck one more time before Hoseok takes off, too. And when he leaves, he’ll forget all about how Yoongi is a psych major and about how the other man seems to know more than four words. He’ll forget about his guilt for not being there when Yoongi was stabbed and he’ll forget about the stupid thoughts he had while sitting in on this breakfast.

That’s what he’ll do.

Because there's no romance with Hoseok and Yoongi, they have an arrangement and it works. That is, until it doesn't anymore.

Chapter Text

Hanging out with Yoongi is nice, much to Hoseok’s surprise. The older man is a nice balance of grumpy and annoyed with goofiness and humor somewhere in between. It’s not what Hoseok expected, but it’s accepted with a smile.

“So, Seokjin’s parents are dumb rich.” Yoongi says, wincing as he rubs ointment around the area of his stitches. Hoseok had offered to help, but Yoongi is a stubborn man and refuses to allow the other to assist him with anything.

Hoseok doesn’t want to admit to himself that he’s only slightly jealous that Yoongi had allowed Seokjin to take care of him with no arguments.

“Yeah? What do they do?”

“His dad is a surgeon and his mom does physical therapy. They make so much money, it’s stupid.” Yoongi sighs before reaching over to his bedside and grabbing the playstation controller. He doesn’t take the eyes off of the screen while he talks, trying to figure out the perfect movie to put on for the two of them.

Hoseok found himself spending the last two days with Yoongi, having sex sometimes, but mostly just being together. After two rounds of sex earlier, Yoongi mentioned wanting to watch a horror movie and Hoseok, instead of getting dressed and leaving like he usually would, decides to keep his clothes off and encourage Yoongi to put the scariest thing he could find on.

“How did you meet him and Namjoon?”

“Seokjin was my roommate freshman year, but we got along really well so when it was time for us to move off campus, we decided to stay roommates. I took him to one of my shows one night and Namjoon was performing there and they hit it off so quickly, it’s gross. So they started dating immediately, but at the time Namjoon was living on campus...then a semester later, Namjoon moved in with us and now I’m surrounded by domestic bullshit everywhere I turn if I leave my room.” Yoongi snorts as he presses play on a random horror movie.

Hoseok clears his throat, wondering if he can get Yoongi to talk more, but also afraid that he’s doing something terribly wrong by asking all of these questions.

“So once the semester is over are you going to keep living here? I mean, you’ll have graduated, right?”

“Yeah, I think I’ll stay here...I mean, these aren’t student apartments, so I don’t have to move out. Jin graduated last year and he hasn’t said anything about finding a new place. I would like to keep them as my roommates, maybe upgrade to a house once our lease is up, but I need to talk to them about it because Namjoon graduates next year and who knows if they’ll want to keep living with me or have their privacy?”

“Oh, what do your parents think?” Hoseok asks and Yoongi shrugs.

“They don’t really care as long as I can take care of myself, it’s not like they can fly back here to Korea and yell at me, anyway. I’m sure they would love me to go to grad school, but I have no plan on ever really becoming a psychiatrist. I already have a few offers to produce with some big name companies and I make plenty of money rapping. What about you? What are you majoring in?”

“Education.” Hoseok says softly, wincing as the first character is already being slaughtered within the first five minutes of the movie. “I want to teach history to elementary students or middle schoolers.”

“That’s noble, teachers don’t get paid shit.” Yoongi says and Hoseok shrugs.

“I’m not in it for the money. I’m in it for the kids.”

Hoseok hates it when people point out that teachers don’t make much money, he already knew this when he signed up for it. He even had to argue with his mother about what he was going to study because she heavily against her son becoming an underpaid and overworked teacher, but he loved children and he loved history. He wanted to impact the lives of young people and this was how he could do it.

“Kids and I don’t go well together.” Yoongi mumbles, not flinching the slightest bit when the killer disembowels the character from before. “Have you ever worked with them before? I did research hours my freshman year with my ex at a children’s hospital and it was really hard to work with them for me.”

“You have an ex?” Hoseok asks with a snort and Yoongi doesn’t even bother to look offended. “Someone dated you?”

“Yeah, can you believe it?” Yoongi laughs along with him, much to Hoseok’s surprise.

“What was that like? Was he like ‘Oh! Yoongi I love you~’ and you would respond like ‘Ugh, get off of me.’?”

“Hey! I can be a great boyfriend! I spoiled the fuck out of him, but that’s where I went wrong.” Yoongi laughs and his eyes crinkle up in a way that Hoseok’s never seen before. It’s so fucking cute and Hoseok has half a mind to lean in and kiss the other man, but he resists. “He hated Seokjin, which was weird because everyone loves Jin. When we broke up he demanded that I admit to cheating on him with Jinnie.”

“I guess I can kind of see why he would think that, Seokjin seems to dote on you quite a bit.”

“Yeah, but that’s more brotherly, I think.” The elder shrugs before wrapping his arm around Hoseok and pulling the boy closer to him. “Besides, Seokjin doesn’t have the dancer’s body that I like.”

Hoseok raises his eyebrows at that, but leans into the touch. He wants to ask how Yoongi knew he was a dancer and he wonders, briefly, if he and Yoongi’s ex have ever crossed paths. He’s curious about so many stupid things that he’d never wondered about before and now here he is, in Yoongi’s arms, wondering who the fuck the older man’s ex is.

“I dance.” Is all Hoseok can lamely say and Yoongi laughs.

“I know, your body gives it away.”

“Does it?” Hoseok asks and Yoongi nods.

“It bends in ways that only a dancer could...that and the way you move is very light...I don’t know how to explain it, but I can just tell that you’re a dancer.”

The pink that spreads across Hoseok’s cheeks is unavoidable and he’s almost embarrassed by the fact. He knows Yoongi isn’t necessarily complimenting him, but he kind of is and Hoseok doesn’t understand why that makes him so happy all of the sudden.

Hoseok leaves Yoongi’s apartment later that night, he has an early morning class the next day and honestly he kind of misses his roommate so, ignoring the older man’s pout, he leaves before he’s convinced to stay yet another night.

When he gets home, Jimin and Jungkook are on the couch watching some lame drama that Jimin no doubt roped his younger boyfriend into watching with him.

“Oh, no! Jungkookie, it’s a burglar!” Jimin pretend screeches and Hoseok rolls his eyes. “Oh! No, nevermind, it’s just my roommate...what was his name again? Hoya? Ho...young? Ah, Junho, was it?”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” Hoseok laughs before plopping down onto the couch next to the couple.

“Ah! Hyung, I think it was Hoseok, but I may be wrong.” Jungkook joins in. “I thought he’d moved out…”

“Shut up, both of you, before I cut you.” Hoseok laughs, squeezing the youngest’s arm. “I missed you both, as well, no need to get all prissy with me.”

“Oh, did you? Did you miss us? Were we even on your mind during your weekend long sex fest? I guess I should have expected it since you were home every night last week, but still.” Jimin whines and Hoseok can’t help, but to coo at the younger man.

“Yoongi got stabbed last week.” Is all he says and Jimin gasps.

“What?! He hasn’t posted about it online!”

“You follow him?” Hoseok gasps with a pout and Jimin nods.

“Yeah, don’t you? We follow each other on instagram and we’re facebook friends.”

Hoseok isn’t even friends with Yoongi on facebook, nor does he follow the other on instagram. Once the two of them get involved with each other on social media, that makes things more real and Hoseok has had enough real for his lifetime this past weekend. Still, he wonders why Yoongi would follow his roommate on instagram and facebook without mentioning anything to him.

“I dunno, I just wanted to add him, so one morning when he was here before he left, I asked him for his info and he gave it to me. He even likes my pictures!” Jimin grins and Hoseok almost cries...almost.

“How have you never told me this?!”

“I dunno, I didn’t think it was that big of a deal, I guess.” Jimin laughs and the next thing Hoseok does is what any normal, completely sane, one hundred percent not-in-like person would do. He grabs Jimin’s phone and goes straight to Yoongi’s facebook.

The older man’s facebook wasn’t active in the least bit. The last update had been a year ago and his profile picture seemed to have been taken long before he’d ever even met Hoseok. That didn’t stop him from looking through the other’s pictures, laughing out loud at how ridiculous some of them were. Most of them were of Yoongi doing something stupid, usually involving Seokjin or Namjoon, but one really caught Hoseok’s eye.

“Is that...Kibum?”

Kibum was a part of the university’s dance club and while he wasn’t the most amazing dancer on the team, he was well known throughout the school which helped the club gain a wider audience.

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure they dated. I think they both came from Daegu and dated from high school to when they started least their instagrams show that. Yoongi is super active on instagram, you can find way more juicy shit there.”

Hoseok huffs before opening the app on his roommate’s phone. He quickly finds Yoongi’s instagram page (MYG_AGUSTD93, how creative Hoseok thinks.) and scrolls through the photos. The older man is much more active on this account, he posts something almost every day, even if some of the photos are just obscure blurry pictures of nothing in particular. Hoseok has never seen the page before and it’s weird to him, to see just how much of a social media presence Yoongi has.

What makes Hoseok’s blood boil is that Yoongi posted a photo of himself and Kibum eating ramen four weeks ago. That’s only a month and it makes Hoseok wonder if there is an overlap in the times that Yoongi fucked him and Kibum. There’s no way, Hoseok thinks, there’s no way Yoongi would do that, right? They’d both been upfront with each other about anything when it comes to their sexual relationship, so Hoseok thinks, hopes, and prays that Yoongi would have told him if he’d slept with someone else during their time together.  He wants to text Yoongi right now and demand an explanation, he even pulls his phone out to type out a lengthy text. But just as his finger hovers over his and Yoongi’s message thread, his phone goes off.

Jung Daehyun flashes across the screen and Hoseok almost laughs out loud at the coincidence. His own ex calling him now? For what reason? He and Daehyun hadn’t ended on bad terms and Hoseok thinks maybe Yoongi and Kibum hadn’t either. Maybe they’re just friends and Hoseok is overreacting. If Hoseok and Daehyun can remain friends then maybe it’s the same for Kibum and Yoongi. Besides, why should Hoseok care? Why are all of these questions and stupid feelings popping up out of nowhere just because he’d spent the weekend with Yoongi? Hoseok sighs again before answering the call, trying to tell himself not to be that crazy boyfriend, he’s not even Yoongi’s boyfriend in the first place.

“Hello?” He asks into the phone, trying to sound calm. Daehyun doesn’t call him ever, if he needs to say anything he’ll just text the other, but their interaction has become basically non-existent since they ended their relationship just over two years ago.

“You need to come home.” Daehyun says into the phone. He sounds almost like he’s crying and Hoseok panics. Daehyun never cries, he never shows any emotion ever, so to say Hoseok is scared is an understatement.

“What’s wrong? What do you mean?”

“Seok, there was a car accident...your dad he’s in the hospital-”

And Hoseok doesn’t hear anything else because he’s running to his room and grabbing the first bag he can find.

It takes just under three and a half hours to get to Gwangju from Seoul, but as soon as he steps off of the train, Hoseok immediately calls Daehyun to tell him he’s arrived.

“I’m outside the station, we can drop your things off at my place and go see your dad afterwards, yeah?”

Hoseok nods, the look in his eyes is blank as the elder leads him to his car. From what Hoseok’s mother says, his father had to have surgery and be kept in the hospital for the next few days, but he should be okay. That doesn’t stop him from worrying, though. Hoseok’s father is his best friend, the person who has supported him endlessly throughout everything he’s ever done, even when he decided he wanted to be a teacher.

By the time they get to the hospital, Hoseok’s father is coming out of surgery, his mother says that he won’t be awake for a long while, but that doesn’t stop Hoseok from staying there with him until he does. Daehyun stays, too, because as worried as Hoseok is, Daehyun is just as scared. He and Hoseok’s father shared a special relationship, even after he and Hoseok broke up. After Daehyun’s family kicked him out for being gay and Hoseok left Gwangju to study in Seoul, Daehyun felt like the only person he had was the man who took him under his wing when his own father wouldn’t. Hoseok thinks it would be unfair of him to exclude the other from visiting his father. It’s another two hours until Youngseok wakes up and as soon as he comes to, Hoseok is by his side.

“Dad! They told you you shouldn’t be driving!” He complains and his father rolls his eyes in response.

“Shouldn’t you be in school studying?”

Daehyun laughs at that and Hoseok shoots him a glare, he immediately shuts up and rests a hand on Hoseok’s shoulder.

“He’s right, father.” Daehyun tells him, earning a scandalized look from the man in the hospital bed.

“Don’t you side with him Jung Daehyun!” Youngseok glares, causing the two young men to laugh out loud. “I’m fine, it wasn’t even my fault!”

“Yeah, but the doctor said that if you operate heavy machinery that it puts your heart at risk and-”

“Hoseok, I know what the doctors have told me, but I’m not going to put my life on hold just because some man with a stethoscope tells me to! Now, didn’t I say you should be back in Seoul studying? You better not be missing class, I pay a lot of money for you to attend that ridiculously overpriced school.”

“I wanted to make sure you were okay.” Hoseok grumbles, running a hand through his hair. He knew his father would be upset to know that he’d left school, but honestly he can take a few days off.

“You can’t come see us on the weekends or when you have breaks, but your father ends up in the hospital and that’s when you want to come home and show us you care?” Hoseok’s mother asks and Daehyun can’t fight the snicker that comes out of his mouth.

The other three never fail to make Hoseok feel guilty about his choice to study in Seoul, but he’d wanted to get away from home. He’d wanted to experience life outside of Gwangju and he doesn’t think he should be punished for that. Instead of arguing, though, he simply rolls his eyes and sits at the end of his father’s hospital bed.

“You know I care, dad. I love you and I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”

“I’m fine, son. Besides, Daehyun has been running the business for me, so I’ve been a lot less mobile and a lot less stressed lately.”

Hoseok glances at the older boy with a frown before looking back at his father.

“You didn’t tell me that.”

“Does it matter? You want to be a teacher, don’t you?” Hoseok’s mother scoffs and it takes everything in the boy not to lash out.

“It would have been nice to know. You could have texted me something, Dae.”

“I didn’t think it was a big deal.” Daehyun shrugs and rubs the back of his neck.

Truthfully, Hoseok knew that he and his sister would never take over the family business. His father started a small company that sold tools and motors to KIA and other companies around the area. Although their part of the business was small, they dealt with major companies and Hoseok had always wondered just where the business would go once his father stepped down. To say it didn’t hurt that no one bothered to tell him Daehyun was taking over would be a lie. He doesn’t even want part in the business, but he would have liked to have been informed. Hoseok glances at his ex-boyfriend and chews on his lower lip. Daehyun had gone to college in Gwangju, had studied business, and had worked for his father immediately after graduating. He’d done what Hoseok’s family wanted him to do and it almost makes Hoseok feel guilty.

“Hey, it’s not a big deal, right? I needed someone to take over and Daehyun is basically a part of the family.” Youngseok offers and Hoseok nods in response. He has no right to feel hurt.

They spend the next few hours catching up with each other before Hoseok and Daehyun are informed that they have to leave. Hoseok’s mom stays with his dad and shoos them out of the room with promises of having lunch the next day.

When they arrive at Daehyun’s apartment, Hoseok takes the time to really look around and he’s shocked. The apartment is nice, way nicer than what Hoseok would have expected, and it’s big. Daehyun leads him to the guest room and makes sure Hoseok is made to feel at home. Hoseok can’t help it, but to smile at Daehyun as he gets the younger man settled in. Daehyun is his type, sweet and strong, caring and sometimes overly involved. His family loves the older boy and he’s even taking over his father’s company. What is there not to love about Daehyun? On paper, he’s a much better choice than Yoongi, but Yoongi is the one that Hoseok can’t get out of his head.

Yoongi: Come back over. My bed is cold :(

Jung Hoseok: Lol, can’t. I came to Gwangju.

Yoongi: Wtf are you doing in Gwangju?

Jung Hoseok: My dad got into a car accident, he has a bad heart so they had to do surgery on him...I couldn’t not come.

Yoongi: Your family is from Gwangju? I didn’t know that.

Jung Hoseok: Yeah…

Yoongi: I hope he’s okay.

Jung Hoseok: Thanks. :) He’ll be fine, I think.

Yoongi: Good. When will you be back?

Jung Hoseok: Idk...maybe in a few days. Just wanna make sure my dad is good before I leave.

Yoongi: Cool..come stay with me when you get back, yeah?

Jung Hoseok: Sure. Hey, can I ask you something?

Yoongi: Shoot.

Jung Hoseok: Do you know Kim Kibum?

Yoongi: did you know?

Jung Hoseok: I just remembered he mentioned something about his rapper boyfriend a few weeks ago. I was wondering if you knew who his boyfriend is.

It’s a lie, but Hoseok hopes that Yoongi won’t realize that.

Yoongi: I don’t think he’s dating anyone right now.

Jung Hoseok: Oh...that’s weird, maybe an ex then?

Yoongi: Well, he’s my ex so that’s a possibility.

Jung Hoseok: No way.

Yoongi: Yeah, we dated in high school, I followed him here to Seoul when we graduated. Remember I said I spoiled him too much?

Jung Hoseok: Oh dang. I wonder why he’s talking about you still...I mean it has to have been at least two years, right? Cause we started fucking about two years ago.

Yoongi: Yeah, that sounds about right...but don’t listen to Kibum, he’s kinda crazy. If you give him an inch, he takes a mile.

Jung Hoseok: Oh. How so?

Yoongi: Like, if I give him any attention he acts like it means we’re going to get back together, but I don’t have time to be in a relationship, you know? It’s too much work, especially with him. That’s why what we have is good. You don’t demand all of my attention and time and you don’t make me take you on stupid dates every single day. I like that.

Jung Hoseok: Have you slept with him since we started sleeping together?

Hoseok holds his breath, he can’t believe he asked that, but what he can’t believe even more is that Yoongi has taken a whole ten minutes to reply to him when before he’d been responding right away. It makes Hoseok’s insides twist and turn because if Yoongi had been sleeping with Kibum this whole time, he would feel grossed out.

Yoongi: A few times, yes.

And Hoseok is angry. He doesn’t know why he is or if he is even allowed to be, but he’s so angry, he feels like he’s going to blow up. He wants to know how many times is a few times and he wants to know if Yoongi has slept with anyone else. He wants to scream at the top of his lungs and he wants to break everything around him, he wants to-

“Hey, Seok?” Daehyun knocks on the door before opening it a crack. “You hungry? I heated up some leftovers from dinner last night. Your mom made it, it’s really good.”

“You had dinner with my family last night?” Hoseok asks with a laugh and Daehyun smiles guiltily.

“Yeah, is that okay?”

“Of course it’s okay, of course it is. I just...I feel bad because I’m not around.”

Daehyun takes a step forward into the room and motions for Hoseok to stand up.

“Don’t feel bad, you’re studying and you’re working hard to make sure your future works out. There’s nothing wrong with that. You take care of you, your family understands and I’m just helping out while I know I owe them a lot, but you’re still their son and they still love you so don’t stress about it, okay?” He grabs Hoseok by the elbow and leads him out of the guest bedroom towards the dining room. “Now, come on, let’s eat!”

Yoongi sighs as he looks down at his phone. Hoseok hadn’t texted him back, yet, and Yoongi wouldn’t blame the younger man if he didn’t text back at all. Sure, they didn’t have any set rules and sure Yoongi can technically sleep with whoever he wants because he and Hoseok are not dating, but for some reason he feels guilty. He sighs before picking his phone up again and sending another text to Hoseok, hoping that the other won’t completely ice him out.

Min Yoongi: I know that it might have been uncool of me to do that, but I’m just trying to be honest with you. I always want to be honest and upfront and tell you the truth, okay? I slept with him a handful of times since we’ve started fucking, but it didn’t mean anything and I didn’t do it with the intention of hurting you or two-timing you or fucking whatever we’re doing up bc I like what we have. It's simple and I like that. I’m sorry if I upset you. I hope your dad gets better. We can maybe talk when you get home? Let me know.

Chapter Text

When Hoseok gets back to Seoul three days later, he allows Yoongi to try and make up for his mistake and explain just exactly what was going on. He finds himself sitting in the living room of the older man’s shared apartment with his legs crossed and his hands in his lap at one in the morning. This is the only way he can keep himself from swinging at Yoongi if he makes him too angry, he jokes to himself in his head.

Yoongi is sitting in front of him, elbows on his knees and hunched over in thought. He wants to figure out just what to say, but he needs to do it quickly.

“So are you going to talk to me or what?” Hoseok asks lazily and Yoongi laughs at the boy’s attitude.

“This mean kid attitude doesn’t work for you, babe.” Yoongi tells him and Hoseok has half a mind to get up and leave now. “Look, I don’t really know what to say, okay? We never really said we were exclusive and if you want to be exclusive that’s cool with me. I guess I just assumed we were doing what we were doing.”

“I would have just liked to have known that you were sticking your dick in someone else while you were doing it to me! That way I could- fuck, I don’t know, just not sleep with you.”

“So you don’t want me to sleep with him?” Yoongi asks.

Hoseok’s jaw drops and his eyes widen comically. Of course he doesn’t want the older man to sleep around, he doesn’t want to catch something or get himself involved in drama. He wonders just how angry Seokjin would be if he got blood on the carpet.

“Are you a fucking idiot?”

“Language.” Is all Yoongi says and Hoseok feels his leg shaking. He’s getting angry, he can feel it, and apparently Yoongi can tell, too, because he rests a hand on Hoseok’s leg to still it. “Calm down, let’s talk this out like adults, okay?”

Hoseok straightens up and sighs, closing his eyes to take a deep breath.

“Okay, fine. When is the last time you slept with Kibum?”

“About a month ago, I guess.” Yoongi shrugs. “That’s the last time I saw him.”

“Why what?”

“Why did you sleep with him, dumbass?!”

“Oh!” Yoongi shrugs again and offers an apologetic smile. Hoseok wants to scream because, god damn, when did he start thinking that smile was so cute? “I don’t know, I guess I just...couldn’t say no to him. He wanted to go out for lunch, so I told him I would take him to this ramen place close by and he was just being himself and coming onto me all crazy, you know? And I thought well, fuck, if I had to spend the whole day with him and pay for his meal I might as well get a blowjob out of it, at least.”

“You sound like such a fuckboy.”

Yoongi laughs out loud at that, as if it’s a joke, and when Hoseok doesn’t laugh along with him he pouts.

“I’m not trying to be a fuckboy, I just...wanted a blow jay.”

“I could have given you a ‘blow jay’ if you just fucking texted me.”

And Hoseok is not jealous, as much as it sounds like it. He is not .

“Okay, I realize that. I do feel bad about it, you know?”

“Do you? Because you’ve fucked him at least five times while we’ve been sleeping together!”

“Okay! I get it, but you didn’t say we were exclusively fucking each other. If you had just told me that’s what you wanted, then-”

“I should have had to tell you! You should have just...not fucked him!”

“Well, I mean, does a blowie really count as fucking him?” Yoongi asks, squinting his eyes in thought as if he was seriously asking that question.

“Yes! Yes, it does!”

“Okay, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you, I don’t want to ever make you mad. I like the happy Hoseok.” The older man says quietly and Hoseok melts in his spot.

“Well, I’m not very happy about the fact that you fucked your ex boyfriend and then probably went and fucked me right after!”

“I always use condoms with him, though.” Yoongi offers, whining softly when Hoseok actually does punch him on the side of his thigh. “Fuck! I’m sorry, I said I was sorry!”

“Don’t sleep with him anymore, or else I’m going to end this. Whatever the fuck this is.” Hoseok says and Yoongi nods dumbly. While he usually wouldn’t care what a hookup tells him to do, he’s grown fond of the younger man and he doesn’t want to lose their relationship...whatever the extent of that may be.

“Have you fucked anyone else?” Yoongi asks ahd Hoseok shakes his head.

“I’m not a ho.”

“I am sorry, I wouldn’t have...done that if I knew that you cared about that stuff.”

“It’s okay...I guess I should have said something when we started all of this.”

Yoongi nods and laughs before leaning in to press a kiss to Hoseok’s lips. It’s quick and soft and Hoseok almost doesn’t even register it happening, but when Yoongi pulls away with a bright smile, Hoseok can’t help but to smile back.

“I’m sorry, I really am. Anyway, tell me about Gwangju, how was it? Is your dad okay?”

When Yoongi kisses him like that and asks these kinds of questions it throws Hoseok’s heart through a loop and he can’t function properly. How is he supposed to keep their relationship strictly business when Yoongi acts like he cares about how the younger man feels?

“My dad is okay, he just has a really bad heart so whenever anything happens to him he has to go to the hospital to make sure he’s okay. He was in a car accident and he had to have surgery, but he should be out of the hospital within the next couple of weeks.”

“Wow, that’s intense. Did you at least get some great home cooked meals out of the visit? That’s literally the only reason I’ll go visit my parents when they come home to Korea. We don’t get along, but my mom can fucking cook.”

Hoseok shakes his head and pulls his knees to his chest.

“I didn’t get to eat any of my mom’s cooking, she stayed with my dad the whole time. Well, I guess I had leftovers, but it’s not the same.” Hoseok wonders if he should mention that he stayed with his ex boyfriend rather than staying at his parents’ house, but he thinks it might give off the wrong impression.

“Damn that sucks.” Yoongi laughs before standing and pulling Hoseok by the hand towards his bedroom.

Just as they snuggle into bed and get situated, Hoseok’s phone goes off with a loud ‘ding’ indicating he had received a text message.

Jung Daehyun: It was nice having you home again. You should come back and visit and dad miss you so much and I don’t think father has a lot of time left...don’t want to make you sad or anything, just think about it. We all miss you.

Hoseok sighs at the text message, but jumps when Yoongi reads over his shoulder. Fate must really hate him.

“Jung Daehyun? You have a brother? Or is it a cousin? Your names are-”

“He’s my ex.” Hoseok cuts him off, shaking his head as he types out a quick reply to the other. “He was my boyfriend in high school and we did the whole long distance thing when I first moved to Seoul, but it didn’t work. His family basically disowned him for being gay, so my parents took him in and even after we broke up they still adore him and take care of him as if he was their own. I stayed at his place when I went home this time around...just so you know.”

“ stayed with your him the whole time you were in Gwangju, but you wanted to get mad at me for fucking Kibum? But you stayed with your ex boyfriend ? Where you definitely fucked?”

“We didn’t have sex! It’s not like that.”

“He calls your parents mom and dad!” Yoongi argues and Hoseok finds himself getting defensive.

“Yeah! Because they took him in after his parents kicked him out. We didn’t fuck, unlike you I can keep it in my pants around my ex.”

“So why didn’t you mention him to me in the first place?” Yoongi asks and Hoseok laughs out loud.

“You never mentioned Kibum to me!”

“So this is a tit-for-tat kind of thing? Are we evening the score, now? You don’t even stay here after a night of fucking, you leave before I’m up in the morning, but you think you have the right to get upset with me for sleeping with someone else while simultaneously hanging out with your ex boyfriend? Tell me if I missed something there!” Yoongi is raising his voice at Hoseok and it’s scary to say the least. He doesn’t know what to do with the older man getting worked up like this.

“Yoongi, just stop!” Hoseok yells back, taking one step toward the door.

This is why he doesn’t catch feelings, once you catch feelings you start having fights and when you start having fights things get more difficult.

“Don’t tell me to stop! You made me feel guilty when you were doing the same thing!”

“But I wasn’t doing the same thing! Jesus, I wouldn’t lie to you about it, if I fucked him I would have told you!”

The door to Yoongi’s room slams open and Namjoon is standing there with his arms crossed in the doorway.

“If you’re going to argue, take this to your apartment, please. We can’t get another noise complaint and quite frankly, I don’t want to have to deal with a grumpy Jin in the morning because he can’t sleep properly.” He growls at the two of them and Hoseok shrinks back. Yoongi rolls his eyes and waves a hand at Namjoon.

“Shut up, go back to your room.” Yoongi grumbles and Hoseok stares wide-eyed at the other, shocked at how the situation is unfolding.

“I should leave. I’m leaving now.”

“No, I’m sorry that I kept you and Seokjin up.” Hoseok mumbles to Namjoon before practically running out of the apartment.

It isn’t until he gets home that he realizes he left his keys and bag of clothes at Yoongi’s. Instead of turning around and going back or even calling the other man to bring him things, Hoseok decides to pound on the apartment door and call out for Jimin and Jungkook.

“Hyung! What the fuck?! It’s almost three in the fucking morning!” Jungkook hisses when he answers the door, but as soon as he sees Hoseok’s face he panics. “What’s wrong, are you...are you crying?!”

Was he? He couldn’t even tell, but when he reaches up to touch his cheeks he definitely feels tears there.

“No, shut up.” He grumbles before pushing past the younger boy and heading straight for his bedroom.

They don’t talk for three days and a part of Hoseok is disappointed that Yoongi hasn’t even tried to make things right with him. He finds himself at the practice room for the dance club, doing his usual routine of stretching before anyone else gets there when none other than the root of his problems appears. (Okay, so Kim Kibum may not be the root of his problems, but Hoseok is never one to place blame where it needs to go.)

“You!” The older man screeches and Hoseok jumps.

“Me?” He asks, standing up as quickly as he can. He may not say it out loud, but Kibum is scary and Hoseok wouldn’t put it past the other to hit him in front of everyone.

“Yes, you.” Kibum hisses as he stops right in front of Hoseok. “Are you dating Min Yoongi?”

“I would hardly call it dating, it’s more of-”

“It’s more of what?” Kibum raises an eyebrow and Hoseok gulps.

“It’s more of a friends with benefits type of deal.”

“So then please tell me why the fuck he told me he can’t take me out because he’s ‘seeing someone’. To be honest, it caught me off guard, but I thought he was joking. You could only imagine my shock when he said your name.”

“He told you he’s seeing me? As in seeing me , seeing me?” Hoseok’s eyebrows fall into each other and he clears his throat. “I think you have it wrong.”

Before he can say another word, Kibum pulls out his phone and shoves it in Hoseok’s face.

Kim Kibum: Whatcha doin?

Yoongi<3: In the studio for the day.

Kim Kibum: Yoongi, take me to dinner.

Kim Kibum: Take me to dinnerrrrrrrrrr

Kim Kibum: Omg stop holing yourself up in that dark little room and take me out to eat, I’m hungry af.

Yoongi<3: Can’t, sorry.

Kim Kibum: Yes, you can. You have legs, no? You have a car, no? You have money, no? Come pick me up.

Yoongi<3: I suppose instead of saying “I can’t” I should say “I’m not going to”

Kim Kibum: Why the fuck not?

Yoongi<3: I’m kind of seeing someone, I think? He found out about you because you’re over there telling the world about us, apparently, and now he’s mad at me because I slept with you. I don’t know, I’m not one hundred percent sure of all of the details, but you got me in trouble with Hoseok. I’m annoyed with you now.

The next text messages are a bunch of eye rolling emojis from Kibum and Yoongi’s response of the kissy face ones. It almost makes Hoseok laugh out loud, but then he remembers Kibum is right in front of him and he’s at risk of being punched in the face at any given moment.

“Yoongi and I have a history, okay? Whatever you guys are’s not going to last.”

Hoseok shrugs in response and takes a step back.

“I’s lasted for two years now, so I guess we’re doing something right.”

And he may be exaggerating because for two years all he and Yoongi did was sleep together, it’s not like they were dating or ever wanted to date each other, but Kibum doesn’t need to know that little bit of information.

Hoseok shows up at Yoongi’s apartment after practice and when Seokjin answers the door, the younger man can’t fight the blush that covers his face. He was raised right, okay? He knows when he should be embarrassed.

“Hi, Seokjin.” He mumbles. Seokjin raises his eyebrow in response and Hoseok almost rolls his eyes. “I’m really sorry for keeping you up the other day.”

“It’s fine, I ended up getting plenty of sleep after all.” The older man says, leaning against the doorframe.

“ Yoongi here? Can I talk to him?”

This feels awfully a lot like he’s in middle school again, asking his friend’s mom if he can come out to play with him. Seokjin sighs before standing up and taking a few steps back so that Hoseok can step into the apartment.

“You know, Yoongi may not be the most open person, but he’s a good guy.” The elder says as he makes his way to the kitchen. “Don’t underestimate him, he’s not a bad person.”

Hoseok makes his way to Yoongi’s room, not even bothering to knock before opening the door. He finds Yoongi hunched over his laptop with his headphones on, his head is nodding along to whatever beat is playing and he’s so absorbed in his music that he doesn’t even notice the presence of the other. Hoseok sighs before making his way across the room and settling himself down on the bed next to the other. Yoongi glances at him and smiles, reaching out to run his thumb across Hoseok’s cheek, before turning back to the computer. They stay like that for the next hour or so, Hoseok falling in and out of sleep and Yoongi making notes on whatever he’s listening to.

When Yoongi finally pushes his laptop to the side and slides his headphones off, he falls backwards onto his pillows and pulls Hoseok closer to him.

“You done throwing a tantrum?” Yoongi asks and Hoseok gives him a half-hearted glare.

“Did you tell Kibum that you and I were seeing each other?” He already knows the answer, but he just wants to see what Yoongi says.

“Yeah.” Yoongi shrugs and Hoseok rolls his eyes.

“You sure are a man of many words.”

They both laugh at that.

“I mean, I did tell him that. I don’t know what else you want me to say.” Yoongi rests his forehead against Hoseok’s as he speaks.

“Well, what does that even mean? Are we dating? I don’t even know how I feel about dating.”

“Well, I guess in order to be dating, we’d have to actually go out on a date, no?” The older man raises an eyebrow and the smirk on his face makes Hoseok want to slap it right off.

“I guess you’re right.” The dancer says with a pout.

“I’m asking you to go on a date with me, don’t look so excited.”

“Oh! You- okay, yeah, okay. I didn’t...put that together, I guess.”

“And you want to teach children?”

“Shut up, Min. I will cancel this date so fast.”

Yoongi picks Hoseok up the following Friday at seven o’clock on the dot. Surprisingly he takes Hoseok out to a steakhouse that Hoseok wouldn’t dream of going to on his own. (“It’s so expensive!” He whispers harshly across the table and Yoongi rolls his eyes. “Just fucking get whatever you want and stop whining.”) He follows it up with bowling. (“We could have just come here in the first place and had shitty bowling alley food!” “I swear to every diety out there if you don’t stop complaining-” “I got a strike!”) And somehow they end up at a club where Yoongi regularly performs. Hoseok thinks that going on a date with Yoongi definitely wasn’t the worst idea in the world and he’s seeing a side of the other that he actually quite likes, but there’s still a piece of him that won’t allow himself to fall completely. A part of him that says he needs to keep himself distanced from the rapper.

“Hey!” A voice calls out to the two of them and Hoseok turns to see Namjoon and Seokjin right behind him.

Namjoon and Yoongi shake each other’s hands before separating. Hoseok notices that the two of them are dressed up nicely and before he can say anything, Yoongi beats him to it.

“Date night?” He asks nodding at his roommates. Seokjin beams at him and Namjoon nods as he takes a sip of his drink.

“What about you guys?”

“Same.” Yoongi says with a shrug and Hoseok is thankful it’s dark inside the club because something about the way Yoongi tells his roommates they’re on a date so casually makes his cheeks warm.

“You gonna go on tonight?” Namjoon asks and Yoongi shakes his head.

“Nah, not tonight. I’m on a date.” He says it right as another man, Hoseok recognizes him as one of Yoongi’s friends, walks up to them.

“Shit, you finally back?!”

“It’s only been, like, three weeks. Relax, you act like I went off to war.” Yoongi rolls his eyes and the man laughs out loud.

“Hey, remind me of your name.” Yoongi’s friend says, holding his hand out for Hoseok to shake.

“I’m Jiho, it’s nice to meet you.” The way Jiho smiles at Hoseok says that he knows something and Hoseok glances over to Yoongi only to find the older man rolling his eyes and shoving Jiho backwards. “I’ve heard that you’re helping nurse little Yoongi back to health for us. How noble of you.”

“I’d say Seokjin is the one nursing Yoongi back to health.” Hoseok laughs and Jiho smirks.

“Well, maybe just dressing up as a nurse would give Yoongi all the help he needs.”

“Jiho!” Seokjin gasps and Hoseok is thankful for him stepping in because things were getting really weird really fast.

“Sorry, sorry. Didn’t realize mom here was going to get so upset with me.” Seokjin narrows his eyes at the other man and Jiho winks back at him before grabbing Hoseok by the arm. “I’m gonna take this cutie to the bar with me, you guys stay here. We’ll be back with shots.”

Jiho leads Hoseok across the club to the bar and doesn’t let go until they’re both leaning against the bar top. He orders a round of shots for the five of them before turning to Hoseok as the bartender begins mixing their drinks.

“So, I just want to tell you this in private. Yoongi is a good guy, okay? He may seem really mean and distant, but he has a really good heart and I just want you to know that if you’re trying to play with him or whatever...don’t, you know? He has a crazy ex who does that enough already, alright? So I want you to know that he’s trying. He was texting me all week trying to figure out where to take you out and trying to make sure he didn’t come off as a dick, just don’t take that for granted. He feels really bad about what happened, whatever he did to fuck up he wouldn’t tell me, but he feels bad about it.”

Hoseok nods and takes the shots offered to him before Jiho leads him back to their group of friends. He wonders just how many times he’s going to hear the “Yoongi is a good person” speech. Up until this point all the two of them had done together was have sex and sleep, he’s just as freaked out as Yoongi is, if not more. But it’s obvious Yoongi is trying, so Hoseok thinks maybe he should just throw his caution into the wind and try a little harder, too.

Chapter Text

So they’re dating. Or whatever it is that they’re doing which is slightly more than just sleeping together, but slightly less than actually being boyfriends. It’s confusing for Hoseok because this is all so new to him, the dynamic of their relationship has changed and while he’s dated before, he’s never quite dated like this. Usually he’d like to have been courted first before giving up the goods, but here he is going on actual dates with Min Yoongi a little over two years after the first time they’d slept together. His mind is running in circles trying to put it all together, but he wants to not think about it because if he thinks about it he gets a headache and being with Yoongi is nice, so he won’t question it too much just yet.

“So, then...what’s the deal?” Jimin asks, sitting cross-legged across from Hoseok on the older boy’s bed. The two of them had been stress baking all day after Hoseok finally added Yoongi on all of his social media accounts and now they were left with too many cupcakes to eat.

“I don’t know. I have zero idea what’s going on with us. Are we friends? Are we still just fucking? Are we dating now? This is too stressful to think about.” Hoseok shoves an entire cupcake in his mouth and Jimin just watches with a look of awe on his face.

“Well, do you want to date him? Like, a boyfriend and boyfriend kind of deal?”

“I don’t know! I mean, I’m still really annoyed about the Kibum thing.”

“You gotta get over that, Seok. You guys never had any set boundaries and you weren’t exclusive. I’ve seen you make out with people at bars and parties in the past two years that weren’t Yoongi. It may not be sex, but it still means that you weren’t keeping things between just the two of you, either. I get you’re upset because it’s gross as fuck that he slept with someone while he was sleeping with you, but still. You guys weren’t dating.”

Hoseok hates Jimin and his stupid logic. He hates it when his roommate has to go and look at things from every angle instead of immediately jumping to one conclusion or another. Jungkook is better for these kinds of things, Jungkook will blindly agree with Hoseok regardless of who’s right or wrong.

“Stop playing devil’s advocate, I should have talked to your boyfriend about this instead.” Hoseok mumbles and Jimin lets out a giggle before yelling out for the youngest to join them. Jungkook is in the room, laying on the bed in between the two of them with two cupcakes in his hands immediately and Hoseok wonders how Jimin was able to land someone as sweet as him. “Jungkook, tell me Yoongi is a fucking idiot.”

“He’s a fucking idiot, hyung. A total douche, how dare he do whatever it is he did!”

Hoseok smirks and Jimin rolls his eyes as he pats his boyfriend on the head.

“You’re a way better friend than Jimin.”

“He is not! I’m just being realistic here!”

Jungkook frowns and furrows his eyebrows as he glances between the two of them.

“Okay, I’m lost. What did Yoongi do? Why do we hate him?”

“We don’t hate him, Jungkook.” Jimin says calmly as he takes a cupcake out of Jungkook’s hands and shoves it in his mouth.. “He had sex with someone else within the past two years.”

“Like...while he was sleeping with you?” Jungkook asks Hoseok. He makes a face when Hoseok nods in response. “Ew, did he give you anything?”

“I mean, I go get tested every six months, but he had sex with Kibum a month ago. I don’t think he has anything, though. Last time I went I was clean.”

“Still, gross. Go get tested again.” Jungkook shudders and glances at Jimin. “Don’t ever sleep with anyone else. I’ll literally kill them.”

“I’m not going to sleep with anyone else, dumbass.”

Hoseok may be a little jealous of Jimin and Jungkook’s relationship, but only slightly. Jungkook looks at Jimin with nothing but pure adoration in his eyes and Hoseok wonders if that will ever happen to him. Will he find someone to eat cupcakes with and sit on his roommate’s bed as they trash talk someone? Will he find someone that will unconditionally take his friend’s side in something just because that friend means a lot to Hoseok? Will he find someone to cuddle with and take every chance they have to just spend time with him? Hoseok thinks he wants those things with Yoongi, but he’s still not sure. How can he really be sure that the two of them will even work? They’re so different from each other and even though Yoongi is attractive Hoseok isn’t sure that the other can be what he wants emotionally.

“What do you guys think about Yoongi. Aside from the whole sleeping with Kibum thing, what are your opinions on him?”

“He’s nice.” Jimin says as he cards his fingers through Jungkook’s hair. The younger boy hums in content, not bothering to answer Hoseok’s question himself, so Jimin continues. “Whenever you guys stay here, he’s always really nice to us in the mornings. He asks us about our night, offers to help clean up the living room, and other stuff like that. He even gave Jungkook a signed CD from one of his rapper friends because Jungkook mentioned that he liked him. That was really sweet of him.”

“How have I never heard of this?” Hoseok asks and Jungkook snorts.

“Because you literally never want to talk about him and the two of you act like there’s nothing between you except for sex.” He takes the hand running through his hair and brings it to his lips before looking up at his boyfriend. “Baby, can you bring me more cupcakes? I know there’s more in the kitchen.”

“Yeah, ‘baby’, bring us some more cupcakes.” Hoseok teases, earning a glare from Jimin as he gets up from the bed.

“All I’m saying is give the kid a chance to make it up to you. Make him your bitch for a while if you think that will help.” Jimin yells out from the kitchen, he comes back to the room with a plate full of cupcakes and places it in the middle of the bed.

“What do you think, Kookie?”

“I think that I understand your concern and I understand Jiminnie’s side, as well, but in the end it’s up to you if you’re going to forgive him or not and it’s up to you if you’re going to let yourself accept the feelings you have for him. I think you’re the type of person who says ‘everything is okay’ even when it’s not and then you let it build up until you can’t pretend like it doesn’t bother you anymore. So, if you want to work this out with him and keep your arrangement the way it is or make it something need to talk to him.” Jungkook smiles at his own advice and Hoseok pouts. “Or you could know, not talk to him because he’s a total douche. Total asshole. Hashtag team Hoseok. Hashtag don’t kill me.”

Yoongi doesn’t keep his phone password protected. It’s something Hoseok has known since they started sleeping together, but he’d never cared to go through it. Something in him has changed, though, because here he is at four in the morning in bed next to Yoongi as the other sleeps soundly and the damn phone is taunting him. It’s been blowing up all night. Hoseok noticed around 9 o’clock that Yoongi kept getting messages, but the older man ignored them the entire time and it’s taking everything in him not to check it. Yoongi is a heavy sleeper so the chances of him waking up and catching him are slim to none, so Hoseok does something he never thought he’d be doing. He grabs the phone and opens it before he has time to think about it. He almost screams when he sees that instead of the brown poodle that decorates Yoongi’s lock screen, his background on the home screen is a photo of his and Hoseok’s shoes placed neatly beside each other. It’s sweet, Hoseok thinks, and it makes him feel a little guilty about how skeptical he’s being of the other. He doesn’t have time to think about that, though, because Yoongi receives another text. He doesn’t want to open it because Yoongi hasn’t opened any of the text messages all night, but Hoseok reads the message preview that shows at the top of the screen.

Mother: Yoongi, your father is becoming impatient. Why haven’t you responded to our calls or text messages? I know you see these.

Hoseok frowns. He knows Yoongi isn’t close to his family, the older man has mentioned it a few times since they started getting to know each other better and Hoseok feels sorry for him. Hoseok loves his family, he’s close to them even though his mother isn’t supportive of his career path, he still tries to talk to them as often as possible. He thinks for a moment before going to Yoongi’s text messages and looking for one name in particular.

He wants to know if Yoongi and Kibum had been talking at all and he knows it’s intrusive, but he’s already here so he figures he’s already broken a big rule. He grins when he sees that Yoongi hasn’t been talking to Kibum lately, but that doesn’t stop him from scrolling up to the very beginning of their text messages. The texts only go back to three years ago and Hoseok knows he’s not going to like what he sees, but he reads them anyway.

Kibum: You get your phone fixed??? Answer me if you did!!!!

Min Yoongi: Kinda. They just gave me a new one. Heading your way soon.

Kibum: Okay, sounds good. I missed you last night, where were you??

Min Yoongi: I had a show at that club I was telling you about.

Kibum: No invite?

Min Yoongi: You never want to go to my shows.

Hoseok frowns, why wouldn’t Yoongi’s own boyfriend want to come to his show? Hoseok tried to make it out to see Yoongi perform whenever he could. He actually enjoyed watching the older man perform because Yoongi has a way with the audience that hypes everyone up and makes them go crazy. It’s one of the most interesting things Hoseok has ever seen. Oh well, Hoseok thinks, at least Kibum won’t be showing up at any performances.

Kibum: I want this

Kibum: [image received]

Min Yoongi: How much is it?

Kibum: Two grand...ish.

Min Yoongi: For a backpack?

Kibum: It’s gucci, babe.

Kibum: It’s not even two grand, it’s like 1600, I was just rounding up.

Min Yoongi: Are you actually going to use it?

Kibum: Duh. It’s fucking cute.

Min Yoongi: Send me the link for it.

Kibum: Thank you! Love you :)

Hoseok’s eyes go wide and he almost throws the phone because really he can’t imagine Yoongi dropping that much money on anything, especially a bag that wasn’t even for him. He knows Yoongi said he spoiled Kibum, but this wasn’t what Hoseok thought he meant. He glances over at the sleeping man and frowns before returning his attention back to the texts.

Min Yoongi: My parents are coming to Korea today, they’ll be staying in Seoul. Will you be able to join us for dinner tonight or tomorrow?

Kibum: Yeah, either one works for me. I miss them! Is your brother coming, too?

Min Yoongi: He’ll be here tomorrow night. He had business in Daegu to deal with so he’s driving here in the morning.

Kibum: Let’s do dinner with them tomorrow, then. It’ll be fun to see everyone together.

Min Yoongi: Okay, I’ll let them know. They want to come to my apartment, but I’m trying to convince them to stay in a hotel.

Kibum: Why??? They’re your family and you never see them, you should let them stay at your apartment!!! Your mom and I can exchange fashion tips. :)

Min Yoongi: That’s a definite no. You two together with Seokjin for a whole night while I have to listen? Fuck that.

Kibum: She really is my inspiration for life. She’s my role model, she’s a boss ass bitch...she’s toal life goals.

Min Yoongi: That’s only because the two of you are so similar. She’s not that great.

Kibum: She’s perfect how dare u. You ungrateful brat.

Min Yoongi: Yep, you sound just like her.

Kibum: I know and you love it because you have major mommy issues. ;) ;) ;)

Min Yoongi: Do I?

Kibum: Yeah, but it’s okay. I’ll take care of you my little baby ;)

Min Yoongi: I can’t tell if I’m turned on or grossed out.

Kibum: Probably both.

Hoseok wonders if Kibum knows all of Yoongi’s family’s business. He wonders if he still talks to Yoongi’s parents the way Daehyun still talks to Hoseok’s. And Hoseok wants to not care because he and Yoongi still aren’t anything definitively and they haven’t even talked about what they are let alone come close to having agreed on what their relationship could be classified as. It still makes Hoseok a little less than happy to read those texts. Would he ever meet Yoongi’s parents? Would they even like him? Hoseok thinks he doesn’t really know much about them other than the fact that they don’t live in Korea and their relationship with their son isn’t the best.

Kibum: I miss you

Min Yoongi: I miss you, too.

Kibum: Can I go to your place later?

Min Yoongi: If you want to.

Kibum: I want to talk about this.

Min Yoongi: I don’t see what there is to talk about.

Kibum: You still love me, right?

Min Yoongi: I do.

Min Yoongi: But that doesn’t mean that we should be together. I do love you, but I love myself too much to be with someone who treats me the way you do.

Kibum: I can work on it, though. You didn’t even give me the chance to try and change.

Min Yoongi: I don’t want you to change. I’ll never be the person who changes you because you are who you are and there’s someone out there that can love you for that. I won’t make you stop being you, but I’m not going to put myself through anymore of this either.

Hoseok looks at the date of the text message and it’s just after he and Yoongi started hooking up. He frowns as he exits the message thread, wishing that he hadn’t opened it in the first place. He doesn’t know why it even hurts his feelings to know that Yoongi still loved Kibum when they met because Hoseok is sure he still had feelings for Daehyun at the time, too. Hell, he and Yoongi barely even acknowledged each other outside of the bedroom, so it really shouldn’t get to him this badly. But it does, it hurts him to think that Yoongi could possibly still have feelings for Kibum now, so he thinks he needs to talk it out with the older man in the morning for the sake of his own sanity. He’s going to lock the phone and put it away when he catches another text message thread. It’s to Jiho and the preview of it looks like he’s talking about Hoseok, so the dancer bites his lower lip and opens the text.

Jiho: Listen to this song.

Jiho: [mp3 attachment received]

Jiho: What do you think?

Jiho: Kyung says it’s shit, but fuck him.

Min Yoongi: Can you put all of your fucking texts in one message? Jesus. It’s alright, not your best, but it doesn’t suck.

Jiho: Okay.

Jiho: How’s everything going with your boo thing?

Min Yoongi: I think it’s going alright. It’s just kinda weird because we’ve been sleeping together for so long, but we don’t know a thing about each other.

Jiho: Is he good in bed?

Min Yoongi: Would I be sleeping with him for two years if he wasn’t? His body is fucking amazing.

Jiho: Does he send you nudes?

Min Yoongi: Is that really your business?

Jiho: Don’t be stingy! Sharing is caring.

Min Yoongi: I’m not going to send you his nudes. The fuck?

Jiho: I’m fucking w ya.

Jiho: Unless you really want to send them, he’s cute.

Jiho: [image received]

Min Yoongi: What the fuck, is that Kyung?

Jiho: (‘: He looks good, right?

Min Yoongi: I’m going to tell him you sent me that.

Jiho: Psh, he doesn’t care.

Jiho: [image received]

Jiho: Last night was good.

Min Yoongi: You’re both disgusting. I hate you.

Jiho: You hate everyone. Except Hoseok, amirite?

Min Yoongi:I like Seokjin, too, and sometimes Namjoon.

Jiho: K. So what’s the deal w you and Hoseok, again? I’m curious. This is what I meant when I asked how things are going: are you together or what???

Min Yoongi: I don’t know, he’s been letting me take him out on dates and shit. Which is a step up from before when all we would do is sleep together and then he’d be out of my house by the time I woke up.

Min Yoongi: He’s a good kid, he’s always happy and he’s super polite. He’s nice to spend time with.

Jiho: So are you going to make it official or????

Min Yoongi: I don’t know, yet. I don’t want to rush it or anything. He seems like he doesn’t know what he wants either, so I think when he’s ready to figure things out we can cross that bridge when we get there.

Jiho: But you’re into him?

Min Yoongi: Yeah, he’s been spending a lot of time with me lately and he’s been here for me with my injury and whatnot. I want to start something with him, I’m not just fucking around, so I’d like for us to be serious...soon would be nice, but it’s up to him in the end. He’s just got a really great attitude and personality, it makes me happy to be with him, so I want to keep being with him.

Jiho: Be careful with all of that, catching feelings is dangerous. The sweet ones are always the ones who will break your heart. careful with the baby mama drama. Don’t want to see Kibum get psycho and slash the kid’s tires.

Hoseok frowns, he doesn’t want that either. Though, he thinks that he’s safe for now because Kibum hasn’t said much to him about anything lately and has been ignoring him during dance practices. Whether that’s a bad or good thing, he isn’t sure.

The next morning is awkward to say the least. Yoongi can sense that something is off with Hoseok almost instantly, he just can’t quite figure it out.

“What’s going on with you?” He asks, burying his face into the crook of Hoseok’s neck as he pulls the other closer to him. Hoseok tenses for a moment before letting out a shaky breath.

“Don’t get mad at me, okay? I did something really dumb and kind of crazy.”

“I can’t say I won’t get mad at you, that’s stupid. I might get upset.” Yoongi tells him and Hoseok rolls his eyes at the other.

Yoongi’s personality is too blunt for him sometimes, he’s too honest and the way he never sugarcoats anything grates on every last one of Hoseok’s nerves.

“I hate you.”

“Well that’s not good, considering the fact that you’re here in my bed...naked.” The older man laughs at his own words before pressing a kiss to Hoseok’s shoulder. “For real, tell me what’s up.”

“I went through your phone last night.” The dancer rushes out, he feels his face heat up and he wants to crawl under a rock because it’s a million times more embarrassing saying it out loud.

“Okay.” Yoongi shrugs. “I have nothing to hide, so...I don’t really care.”

“You’re not mad?”

“I’m not mad , I’m a little confused as to why you would do that, but I’m not mad.”

“I don’t know why I did it, either, it was so stupid of me to do and I’ll never do it again. If you want to go through my phone, you can.” Hoseok reaches for his phone and holds it out, but lets out a whine when the brunette pushes his hand away.

“What? To make it even?” Yoongi laughs at that and Hoseok pouts. “I don’t want to look through your phone, Hoseok. I don’t care...I mean I kind of care because I want you to trust me, but I get that I haven’t done anything to make you trust me. It sucks that you felt like you had to do that instead of talking to me about whatever it is you wanted to know, but I hope that you found whatever answer you were looking for.”

“Are you still in love with Kibum?” Hoseok blurts out and Yoongi almost can’t believe what he’s hearing.

“No, not at all. Why would you think that?”

“He told me that you guys have a history and so we’re never going to work out. I guess I was just curious if you still had any feelings for him due to your…’history’.”

“Definitely not. When we broke up it sucked and I was still into him for a good while after that, but I got over it. It’s been over two years, if I was still into him I think that would be pretty pathetic.”

“Well then why did you still sleep with him? How do the two of you get into a situation where you think ‘oh, I have great sex with Hoseok, but I’m going to go ahead and fuck Kibum today’?”

Yoongi sighs and closes his eyes for a moment. He doesn’t know why he’s slept with Kibum after their breakup and it’s not like it’s a regular thing, but he can’t give Hoseok a good reason and he knows that’s only going to make things worse.

“To be honest, I don’t know. It’s only happened like five or six times since I started sleeping with you and it was almost always when my parents were here...except the last time and the time before that.”

“Okay, so...why would your parents make you sleep with him?”

“My parents don’t make me sleep with him. I guess the stress from seeing them does. They really love him, like, a lot and when they come to town my mom usually calls him up and sees him...and then he’ll call me and then I’ll see him and then we’ll argue about why he still talks to my parents. That usually leads to us fucking.”

It worries Hoseok because just as he thought, Kibum is close to Yoongi’s parents and if Hoseok had to guess, his parents would be visiting soon by the way his mother was blowing up his phone.

“So, he’s close to your family?”

“Yeah...our families are pretty close, my father donates a lot of money to the charity his parents set up, like, fifteen years ago. Every year he gives them a shit ton of money.”

“What do your parents even do?” Hoseok asks and Yoongi laughs out loud at that.

“My dad used to be a neuropsychologist, a pretty well known one at that, but he’s retired and now he helps my mom run her clothing company.”

“A clothing company?”

“Which clothing company?”

“Have you ever heard of 2Y Outfitters?”

Of course Hoseok had. It was one of the biggest clothing companies in Asia.

“Your parents own 2Y?”

“Isn’t that, like, a multi-million dollar company?”

“So you’re, like, a super rich spoiled kid? You went on and on about Seokjin being loaded, but you’re just as rich?”

“I mean, my parents are rich. I’m not.” Yoongi sighs and runs a hand through his hair. “I don’t like to talk about it, really, so…”

“So that’s why you took us to that fancy steakhouse.”

Yoongi nods and hides his face in Hoseok’s neck. It’s embarrassing to talk about his parents and about his family. He doesn’t like it that people get so caught up in money and he hates it that as soon as people find out how much money his family has they change the way they treat him. That’s why he keeps it on the down low as much as he can.

“So, then, your parents want you guys to get back together or something?”

“Kind of? I think they do, but I’m not sure. I really just think they think that I’m going to end up alone and sad, so they want me to be with someone.” The rapper laughs against Hoseok’s neck and the taller boy shivers at the vibration..

“Will your parents be visiting you any time soon?” Hoseok asks and Yoongi lets out a sigh.

“I think so. Did you see my mom’s texts?”

“Well, I saw that she texted you, but I didn’t read them or anything.”

“I haven’t read them, either, but I’m sure they’ll be coming sometime soon. Especially since graduation is coming up.”

And Hoseok wonders again if he’ll meet Yoongi’s parents. While he isn’t sure it’s the right time for them to meet he doesn’t want Kibum calling them up, either.

“So if your parents come here soon, you’re not going to sleep with Kibum again, right?”

“I won't! I already told you I’d stop sleeping with him. I’ll talk to him about it, he needs to know that he can’t keep seeing them, anyway.” Yoongi rubs his face with one hand before sitting up, letting the sheets pool around his hips. Hoseok likes the view and all he wants is to pull the other back down to him, but he can tell that this conversation is stressing his almost-not-quite boyfriend out. “I just know that because I’m graduating this semester, they’re going to make me take Holly and that’s going to be a tough conversation to have with him, too, on top of telling him to stop talking to my mom and dad.”

“My dog. He’s my little baby, but he lives with my parents for now. He’s so fucking cute.” The smile Yoongi gives him is one that Hoseok has never seen before.

“ why would that even matter to Kibum?”

“Well, I got Holly the summer before our senior year of high school and we raised him together, even though Holly is my dog Kibum kind of thinks of him as his own, too. My parents always bring Holly with them when they come to Korea, too, so I know that he’ll want to see him and if they tell me they’re leaving Holly with me this time I know Kibum is going to make a big deal about getting to have him sometimes, too.”

“No, he’s your dog, why the fuck would he want to see him?” Hoseok finds himself getting annoyed and Yoongi chews on his lower lip.

“Because he loves him, a lot. He really does think of Holly as his dog, too, and I kind of promised him after we broke up that I’d still let him see Holly even if he and I weren’t together anymore.”

“Why would you do that?!” Hoseok grabs a pillow and smacks Yoongi on the chest with it. The elder lets out a soft ‘oof’ before grabbing the pillow gently and shaking his head.

“I really didn’t think I’d be trying to date anyone ever again when he and I broke up and I didn’t think I’d meet someone that I’d want to actually start a relationship with at the time. I’ll tell him things have changed and we can’t stick the original agreement, though, I just have to figure it out how to do it in a way that doesn’t involve him breaking into my apartment to steal Holly.”

All Hoseok gets from that is Yoongi wants start a relationship with him. It makes him want to smile, it makes him want to laugh, but it also makes him want to get up and run out of the room because if Yoongi really likes him enough to say it to his face then Hoseok needs to make a decision on whether or not he wants to be in a relationship, too.

“When you say ‘relationship’ mean, what, you want to be my boyfriend?”

“Well, yeah. I thought that’s what this was leading up to, all of this taking you out and spending more time with you.” Yoongi shrugs. “I have an end goal here, but I’m not trying to freak you out or rush you. We can go at your pace, but I do want to be with you eventually.”

“Yeah, okay. I want to be with you, too, I think. I guess I’m just a little scared of how I feel.”

“Hey, I’m scared, too.” Yoongi laughs and Hoseok rolls his eyes.

“No you’re not.”

“I am, I really really am. I mean, fuck, you’re the one who isn’t sure of how you feel and that’s scary for me because I know that I like you and I know that I want to be with you. Do you even know how bad that sucks? I don’t know if you like me or just my amazing dick.”

“Did you just- You didn’t just say that, right?” Hoseok snorts behind his hand and Yoongi grins at him before taking the that hand in his.

“All I’m saying is, you’re not the only one who’s afraid. I’m trying to show you that I’m serious about this.”

“If you’re serious about this, then tell your parents you’re dating someone. You don’t even  have to tell them who I am or anything about me, but I want you to at least let them know that the Kibum ship has sailed.”

Yoongi nods at that and squeezes Hoseok’s hand.

“I can do that.”

“Okay. Good..”

They spend the rest of the day looking through the photos saved in Yoongi’s phone. Most of the pictures are of his dog and Hoseok didn’t even know Yoongi could be so adorable, but when he talks about Holly his entire face lights up and it’s so damn cute . There are some photos of his family members, as well, and Yoongi does his best to tell Hoseok all about each of them. As soon as they finish looking through Yoongi’s pictures, Hoseok pulls his own phone out to show Yoongi his family members, making sure to tell him all about how his dad pushes every limit he has and about how his mother can be uptight, but it comes from a place of love. He shows Yoongi photos of his sister and of Daehyun, which Yoongi isn’t very happy to see how handsome the other man is, and tries his best to explain their families’ situations so that Yoongi doesn’t get upset.

Hoseok thinks that maybe they don’t know a lot about each other and maybe they’re both scared, but these things take time and he thinks that he’s willing to put in the effort to learn about Yoongi because Yoongi is trying just as hard. He thinks that maybe they’ll have moments of uncertainty, but they can get through it together.

Chapter Text

Hoseok learns from Yoongi that the older man’s parents will be arriving in two weeks, just in time for graduation, but in the meantime he’s decided it’s time to call Kibum and break the news to him before they arrive. Yoongi’s parents confirmed that they were bringing his dog with them and that they would be leaving him with Yoongi this time, so he really has no choice but to tell Kibum he can’t see Holly. The brunette is almost positive that they’ve told Kibum, too, so now he can’t avoid the conversation even if he wanted to. He stands with Hoseok in the center of his bedroom, phone in hand, as he tries to figure out what he’s going to say. Hoseok feels no sympathy at all and urges Yoongi to hurry up and call Kibum so they can go out. Finally after figuring out what he wants to say, Yoongi scrolls through his contacts list and puts Kibum on speaker phone.

“Hello?” Kibum answers on the first ring and Hoseok rolls his eyes at that.

“Hey, you got a minute?” Yoongi asks, letting out a sigh when Kibum chirps out a ‘yeah’. “So, I talked to my mom and she told me that she’s going to be leaving Holly with me when she and my dad come to Seoul.”

“Yeah! She told me the other day!” The pickup in Kibum’s voice isn’t missed by either boy in the room and Hoseok winces at how excited he sounds. “Oh, Yoongi, I miss him so much. I bought him a new bed for my apartment. I was thinking that maybe I could have him for a couple weeks and then you could have him a couple weeks, we can switch off. I’m going back to Daegu for a summer trip to be with my family, so I want to take him with me so my mom and dad can see him, too.”

“Kibum, stop. Look, I can’t let you take Holly.”

“Oh...okay, I guess you want to spend some time catching up with him, too? That’s fine. I get it, it’s been a few months since you’ve seen him, but I miss him, too! Don’t be greedy, okay? Next time I go home, then?”

“No, like, I can’t let you take him like he’s some kid with divorced’s not fair to Hoseok that you and I would be basically sharing a dog.”

“What?” Kibum’s voice cracks as he realizes what Yoongi is trying to say and now Hoseok actually feels just the tiniest hint of guilt. “No, Yoongi, that’s not fair. He’s my dog, too, he’s just as much mine as he is yours.”

“He’s actually not.” Is all Yoongi says flatly and that’s when the waterworks start.

“No, you’re not being fair! That’s not okay, I don’t give a fuck about you or who you date anymore, but you can’t take my baby from me.”

“Kibum, do you hear yourself? You-”

“Do you hear yourself ?!” Kibum wails dramatically into the phone. “If you don’t want to share him, then give him to me. I’ll take him.”

“Are you actually insane?” Yoongi laughs out, but the face he’s making tells Hoseok that he doesn’t find what Kibum said funny. “I know you love him and I’m grateful that you care so much about him, but-”

He’s cut off by Kibum hanging up on him.

Yoongi lets out a huff before shoving his phone in his back pocket. He shrugs and gives Hoseok a half-smile, he looks like he doesn’t even feel guilty, just slightly bothered.

“That went better than I thought it would.” He says with an awkward chuckle and Hoseok chews on his lower lip, suddenly feeling like an evil step-mother. “Seriously, don’t worry. I was going to have to tell him he couldn’t see Holly, anyway, so it’s not a big deal. I didn’t realize how weird it was that we were going to split ownership of my dog until you said something,’s all good.”

Hoseok wants to believe that what Yoongi says is true, but he also feels slightly worried that there will be retaliation on Kibum’s part. The other boy sounded genuinely upset and it almost makes Hoseok feel like a bad person. Before he can even say anything, though, Yoongi’s phone is going off. The older man furrows his eyebrows as the name ‘Tae’ flashes across the screen along with a photo of Yoongi and another boy who looks to be about Jimin’s age.

“Who is that?” Hoseok asks, he’s never seen the boy in the picture or heard of anyone with that name.

“Taehyung, he’s been my best friend since we were children. Mine and Kibum’s. He’s back home in Daegu.” Yoongi says quickly before answering the phone. “Hey!”

“Hey, how are you?” Hoseok hears the boy, Taehyung, practically scream into the phone. Yoongi winces at how loud his friend’s voice is and laughs.

“I’m good! How about you? You coming to Seoul for my graduation?”

“Of course! I wouldn’t miss it for the world! I already talked to your mom and dad about getting a huge banner and embarrassing the shit out of you.” The two on the phone share a laugh before Taehyung speaks again. “Hey, I’m actually calling you because I just got of the phone Kibummie.”

Yoongi’s expression turns sour instantly and Hoseok can’t tell if he should leave or not.

“Well, he was telling me that you don’t want to let him see Holly and he asked me if I could call you and maybe talk to you about that.”

“Okay, well, know, hear me out. He loves that dog, man, and you guys have known each other your entire lives and you dedicated almost five years of your life to loving him...don’t you think it’s a little unfair of you to just cut him off like that? You know how much he cares about Holly and you did tell him when you guys broke up that you would still let him see him.”

“Yeah, and up until now I did. My parents always let him take Holly for a day or so when they come to Korea and I never cut his time short or anything like that. I’m dating someone now, things have changed and I can’t just let Kibum have his way because he throws a temper tantrum.” Yoongi grits out into the phone with an annoyed expression written across his face. “Tae, you know how he can be and I think it’s best if you didn’t get in our business like this.”

“Hey, I’m not trying to choose sides here or get in anyone’s business, man, it’s your choice. I’m just should think about it.”

“And I’m saying I already have so you should drop it.”

“Okay, okay. Don’t kill me I’m just trying to help.”

“And by helping you mean calling me out of the blue without even having a real conversation with me and jumping straight into defending Kibum when you and I are supposed to be better friends?”

“Yoongi…” Taehyung begins and he sounds genuinely sorry. “You know I’ve just been busy with school and interning at my dad’s I told you I planned on going to see you for your graduation and I’m sorry that you think my call was only to be a dick, but when our friend from childhood calls me crying, you have to understand that I just want to make sure you’re both happy.”

“Okay, well, when it comes to mine and Kibum’s relationship drama, I’d like it if you stayed out of it. Is that okay with you?” Yoongi huffs out and Taehyung sighs.

“Noted. Sorry. I love you both and this is really weird for me since you guys broke up. This is why I told you guys not to date in the first place.”

Yoongi rolls his eyes.

“Yeah, yeah. If I had a time machine I’d go back and tell baby Yoongi not to open that can of worms, but I don’t.”

“I know. I’m sorry, brother, you know I love you guys equally. I’ll stay out of it.”

“Yeah. Love you, too.”

“You better introduce me to this new person you’re dating!” Taehyung yells and Yoongi laughs.

“You’ll meet him when you come to Seoul.”

“Okay, I’m counting on it.”

Seokjin and Namjoon are just a very strange couple in Hoseok’s opinion. The two of them look good together and if Hoseok didn’t know them, he’d assume that they were a typical snobby, spoiled rich, couple that met and bonded over money. Hoseok, however, does know the two of them and they’re both just so weird that it makes Hoseok laugh out loud when he sees them in situations like the one that they’re in now. Seokjin is laying on the living room floor with a face mask on and Namjoon is dry scrubbing the boy’s legs with an exfoliating sponge.

“What the fuck are you two doing?” Yoongi asks as Hoseok looks on over his shoulder.

“We’re having a beauty night.” Seokjin says through barely opened lips, making it sound more  like a bunch of mumbled gibberish than anything.

“Seokjin is having a beauty night. I’m just doing all the work for him.” Namjoon says as he lifts one of his lover’s legs over his shoulder to get the underside of it. “Right now I’m dry scrubbing his body, it’s great for circulation and supposedly helps you keep fat from building up in certain areas...I don’t particularly believe that’s true, but Seokjin trusts random girls on the internet more than he trusts me, so…”

It’s only then that Hoseok notices that Namjoon is also wearing a face mask and he wonders how the people around him managed to score boyfriends willing to bend over backwards for their significant others while he and Yoongi can barely share a blanket without bickering.

“You guys are ridiculous.”

“His skin is always ridiculously soft after this, if that’s what you mean.” Namjoon says before standing and pulling Seokjin up, as well. He glances at the bag of takeout in Yoongi’s hand and his eyes go wide. “Shit, Jin’s going to be so pissed.”

“Why am I going to be mad?” Seokjin asks as his eyes follow Namjoon’s line of sight. “Are you kidding me?! I spent all day using the stupid crockpot my mom bought us to make a healthy and delicious slow cooked meal! We were supposed to eat together as a family!”

“But...I love this takeout place and you didn’t tell me-”

“I don’t give a fuck! Put that shit in the fridge, you better not eat it. You’re going to sit down with us and we’re going to have family dinner and you’re going to enjoy my crockpot cooking!”

Yoongi’s face falls and all Hoseok can do is coo at how adorable the other looks as he stomps to the fridge and throws their takeout inside of it. He’s noticed that even though Yoongi acts like a tough guy in front of everyone, Seokjin is always the first person to put him in his place. Hoseok strangely admires that about the older man, but also wishes he could have the same kind of power over the other.

Exactly thirty minutes later the four of them find themselves at the dinner table, Namjoon and Seokjin clean from head to toe and Yoongi irritable after having to wait for them to finish their beauty regimen before they can eat. Seokjin grins as he places plates of food in front of everyone at the table, clearly proud of the quinoa risotto with steak, carrots, and asparagus he’d made.

“What the fuck is this?” Yoongi asks, poking at the dish with a look of disdain.

“I’m sorry, when you start cooking your own meals you can complain about what’s for dinner. Shut up and eat it.” Seokjin grits out. “I found it on pintrest. Now try it and tell me if you like it.”

The look in Seokjin’s eye gives Yoongi a shudder before the rapper takes a bite. He keeps his face neutral as he takes another bite and tries to ignore the weight of his roommate’s stare.

“What do you think of it, Yoongi?” Namjoon asks, reaching out to pat his boyfriend on the lower back in an attempt to have him sit down.

“I like it.” Yoongi grumbles and Seokjin’s entire demeanor changes.

“See? I told you it was good!” The eldest says happily before looking at Hoseok with wide, expecting eyes. “What do you think, Hoseok?”

“It’s really good!” Hoseok matches Seokjin’s enthusiasm, which may or may not cause the elder to swoon.

“Someone around here appreciates me and my efforts.”

“I appreciate your efforts!” Namjoon whines before shoving an entire spoonful of food into his mouth. Seokjin coos at his lover, leaning in to press a kiss to his cheek, but stops when he hears a knock at the door.

Nobody makes a move to answer it, so Seokjin rolls his eyes before straightening up and making his way to the door.

“No, no! Nobody rush, I’ll get it. It’s not like I spent all day making sure everything was perfect for tonight.” He huffs out before swinging the door open to come face to face with none other than Kim Kibum. “Uh...what are you doing here? We’re eating dinner.”

“I need to speak with Yoongi.” Kibum tells him, hands on cocked hips and an eyebrow raised. He’s silently daring Seokjin to tell him no because the two of them have always disliked each other, but Kibum just knew Seokjin would never act on said rivalry.

“You should have called first. We’re eating.”

Kibum rolls his eyes before shouting over the other man’s shoulder.

“Min Yoongi, you come out here right now!” He screams and Seokjin slaps a hand over his mouth.

From his spot next to Yoongi, Hoseok can see the other’s eye twitch. Silently, Yoongi stands from his spot and takes a deep breath in and out before getting up and walking towards the door. He carefully pushes Seokjin back into the apartment before stepping out and closing the door behind him. Almost instantly Namjoon, Seokjin, and Hoseok can hear the ex-couple screaming at each other and much to Namjoon’s dismay the neighbors can, too.

“We’re going to get kicked out of here.” He mumbles to himself as he takes another bite of his dinner. Seokjin sighs and shakes his head at that before glancing over at Hoseok.

“Does this bother you?” He waves towards the front door and Hoseok shrugs.

“Kind of, if I’m being honest. Who just shows up at someone’s apartment uninvited to start a yelling match? And he said on the phone that he didn’t care about Yoongi, that all he wanted was the dog, but he seemed really upset when he told me that Yoongi told him he wasn’t going to see him me it looks like he’s holding onto something and that annoys me a little bit.” Hoseok doesn’t know if he can handle this. He doesn’t know if he can get over the fact that Kibum has been a permanent fixture in Yoongi’s life since they were children and seems to want to keep it that way.

“Kibum is, for lack of a better word, crazy. He used to always accuse Yoongi and I of sleeping together and I think he’s really insecure about everything in his life.” Seokjin starts. “But I can tell that Yoongi really likes you a lot and I know that you sticking by his side when he got stabbed really helped him. You know when he told Kibum he got stabbed, that little idiot just laughed. And they’ve been over for a long time. Yeah, they broke up and had their post-breakup drama that every couple does, but Yoongi’s feelings for Kibum died a long time ago...don’t think that this bullshit between them is two-sided.”

“You know Yoongi slept with Kibum while he and I were sleeping together, right?” Hoseok asks and Seokjin bites his lip. Of course he knows, Hoseok thinks, but even if he likes Hoseok his loyalty lies with Yoongi. He wouldn’t have said anything to Hoseok about it and for some reason that makes Hoseok angry.

“We knew.” Namjoon speaks, breaking the tense silence by clearing his throat. “And it’s not that we supported it or didn’t support it, but Yoongi and Kibum’s business is theirs to share, not ours. Even if Yoongi did sleep with him, which I totally think is not cool, it’s obvious that now in this moment and for the past few weeks, Yoongi has developed some pretty strong feelings for you.”

“...Yeah.” Is all Hoseok can mumble around his mouthful of quinoa.

Yoongi comes back in almost thirty minutes later looking irate, ready to fight the next person he sees. Hoseok notices the red palm shaped imprint on his cheek, but chooses to keep quiet as the older man takes his seat at the dinner table.

“Sorry to keep everyone waiting.”

And that’s the end of it for tonight.

When Hoseok recounts the story to Jimin the next day, this time the two of them are on Jimin’s bed with Jungkook on his laptop typing away furiously to finish a paper as he half-listens to them, he finds himself getting angry.

“Hoseok, a lot of people treat animals like they’re their babies.” Jimin says with a frown. “Kibum is probably just will pass. I don’t think it’s right of you to decide what happens with their dog, though...this was an animal they got before you ever even knew of Yoongi’s existence.”

“Whose side are you on?!” Hoseok screeches and Jimin leans back, covering his ears with a pout.

“I’m on your side! All the time! Damn, why are you always getting so pissy with me? I’m just trying to help you understand the other side of it!” Jimin huffs and Jungkook stops typing to look up at the two of them.

“Hyung, there’s no need to get upset with Jiminnie. It seems to me that every time you come home, you have a different gripe about Yoongi. You’re confused about your feelings and you don’t even know one hundred percent if and when you want to make things official. I think that if there’s already this much going on so early on, you shouldn’t be with him. It almost seems like you don’t want to be with him, anyway. So...maybe you should cut things off.” He offers the older boys a tight-lipped smile before proceeding to finish his paper.

And Hoseok thinks that maybe he’s right. Maybe he shouldn’t be pursuing someone who still seems to have so much going on, too much going on for Hoseok to be okay with.

That night Hoseok slips into a pair of loose sweatpants and a tank top with every intention of going to the dance studio after breaking things off with Yoongi. His insides are twisting and turning, the only thing he thinks that can take his mind off of this unnecessary stress is dancing. He tells himself it’s going to be quick and clean. He’ll block Yoongi from his phone and won’t speak to him. The rapper is graduating in less than two weeks now, he’ll get over Hoseok with ease, at least that’s what Hoseok thinks, and at least now they will have ended it before things got too complicated. Hoseok feels like he’s teetering on the line between simply ‘liking’ Yoongi and ‘loving’ Yoongi and this way he can pull himself back before he falls onto the other side and gets hurt.

When Hoseok and Yoongi are sitting in the older man’s room he finds that his resolve is cracking. Looking at Yoongi up close in the face is making it harder for the words to come out, but the text message he’d sent earlier ( We need to talk. Can I come by? ) is already a heads up that this conversation is serious and Yoongi can’t figure out how to make him feel more comfortable. Hoseok’s eyes flicker around the room and he thinks of all of the times he’s spent there, especially in the past few months, and he didn’t realize that it would be this hard to just say he can’t see the other anymore.

“Yoongi.” He starts, still looking everywhere other than at the man in question. “This is just...this is a lot, you know? I feel like we’ve just started off on the wrong foot and I’ve been thinking about this all day.”

“About what?” Yoongi asks, his head cocks to the side in confusion and Hoseok sighs before motioning between the two of them.

“Us. I don’t think we’re ready to take things any further. I see that you care about me and I really care about you, too, but I don’t think we’re right for each other. We should have never tried to to take things further.”

With every word that leaves Hoseok’s mouth, Yoongi’s face falls just a little bit more.

“Oh.” Yoongi chews on his lower lip and plays with his hands nervously. “Okay, I see. You...want to end this?”

Hoseok nods and lets out a shaky breath.

“I’m sorry. I really do care about you a lot and I feel like I’m starting to fall in love with you and-”

“This is a weird way of showing that.” Yoongi mutters and Hoseok can’t even look him in the eye.

“I just think that before we get in too deep, we should stop this while we’re ahead. I can’t deal with crazy exes or the fact that your parents are filthy rich and will probably hate me-”

“You don’t even know my parents. What a fucking cop out, don’t even try to make that an excuse. If you want to end this, then fine. It’s done, it’s over, but don’t fucking sit here and try to explain it away to me like you know what’s best for us without even fucking talking to me first. You’ve made your decision and didn’t even fucking think about how I would feel or what I would want or what I could even do to to soothe these feelings you’re having. That alone tells me that you’re right, we should end this, but don’t try to put this on me.” He stands up and despite his small stature, he seems so big and angry to Hoseok. His voice is hard and authoritative when he opens his bedroom door and motions for Hoseok to leave. “You know the way out.”

Yoongi doesn’t know what to do, he doesn’t know how to react because he didn’t think that Hoseok would be doing this so soon. He’d thought that things were going fine, but apparently he was doing something wrong and all he knows is that it hurts. It hurts so much, even more than when he broke up with Kibum and he wonders if this is how Kibum felt when Yoongi told him they were better off as friends. Yoongi reaches for his phone blindly because he hurts so bad and all he wants to do is hurt Hoseok right back. So without any thought he gets up from his bed and stalks out of the apartment, set on evening their score.

Hoseok dances for hours, letting himself get lost in the rhythm of the music. He tries and tries to get Yoongi off of his mind, tries to convince himself that he made the right decision and that he’s saving himself from an even worse pain in the future. He forces himself to think about the fact that Yoongi wasn’t 100% faithful to him in their two years together, even if there really wasn’t a “them”. He thinks that maybe he should have given himself more time to think because now that it's all said and done, he feels nothing but regret. He stops dancing and stands in the center of the room, tears threatening to spill from his eyes, he thinks about going back home and calling it a night, but then his phone is ringing and he rushes to it in hopes that it’s Yoongi looking for him. He frowns when he sees that it’s only Daehyun calling and lets it ring until it goes to voicemail. He sighs and goes to change the song, but his phone rings again and that’s odd because really what does Daehyun need this urgently at midnight? He answers with a sigh and thinks that Daehyun has a knack for calling him when he needs it. Maybe he should try to fix things there where he knows who Daehyun is and knows every aspect of his life. No secrets, no drama, just himself and Daehyun.

“Hello?” He asks into the phone and he can immediately tell something is wrong because if it sounded like his ex might have been crying the last time he’d called, he’s full on bawling now. “Dae? What’s going on? Are you okay?”

“Dad-” Daehyun chokes on his words and Hoseok’s heart sinks.

“What’s wrong with dad? What’s wrong with my father, Daehyun?! Answer me!” And all he receives are sobs and jumbled words that don’t make sense. He hears a shuffling on the other line and his sister’s voice fills the phone.

“Hoseok, you need to come home first thing tomorrow morning.” Dawon cries into the phone and now Hoseok is really panicking. “They don’t think he’s going to make it through the night.”

Hoseok’s heart stops and he feels like his world is crashing down all around him because this is the first time any doctor has told his family that his father wouldn't make it. They always say ‘he’ll be fine with rest’, they never that he wouldn't get better and Hoseok never thought that this time would come, especially not when he’s so far away.

Yoongi sighs as he rests his back against Kibum’s couch. The other is kissing his neck, biting and nipping at all of the spots he knows sets Yoongi on fire, but the younger man feels absolutely nothing. He wills himself to get hard so he can fuck Kibum into the couch, he wants to get back at Hoseok for wasting his time, but he just can’t. All of his thoughts are consumed by the younger man and it makes Yoongi angry and confused. Why does Hoseok have such a hold on him when they weren’t even together? He sighs before pushing Kibum off of him gently, getting up and walking towards the door without even acknowledging Kibum’s words of protest.

“Sorry, I can’t. I’m just...not into it.” He mumbles as he slips on his shoes and makes his way out to the car. He knows he's hurt Kibum's ego, he knows that the other man is probably fuming, but he can't find it in himself to care.

The drive home is short and silent and it does nothing to ease the pain in Yoongi's chest. He lets out a huff as he makes his way up the stairs to the door, pausing only when he hears the familiar horn of a car locking.  When Yoongi turns around he comes face to face with Hoseok, who takes two stairs at a time until he and Yoongi are right in front of each other. Yoongi wants to be angry and tell the younger man to leave, but when he sees the tears streaming down Hoseok’s face, his heart softens instantly.

“Yoongi.” Hoseok breathes out before collapsing forward into the older man’s arms. He sobs into Yoongi’s shoulder as he tries his best to put together coherent thoughts so that he can explain what’s going on.

Eventually the words ‘father’ and ‘dying’ make their way out of Hoseok’s mouth and Yoongi tenses.

“Fuck.” He mumbles, pressing a soft kiss to Hoseok’s temple. “Come on, let’s go inside.”

“No! I need to go to Gwangju, I need to go now.”

“You can’t leave now, are you insane? You drive like this and you’re going to get yourself killed.” Yoongi wraps his hand around Hoseok’s forearm and pulls him forward. “Let’s get you showered and changed and we can leave in the morning, okay?”

Hoseok wants to protest, but the way that Yoongi takes care of him so gently when just earlier Hoseok had been ready to walk out on what they had makes his heart pound a million times a minute. He lays limply as he lets Yoongi wash him down and put him in a pair of clean sweats. He lets Yoongi tuck him into bed and kiss him on the forehead, he lets Yoongi crawl into bed next to him and hold him as he cries, and right before he falls asleep he mumbles against the other’s chest.

“I’m sorry, I’m so selfish.” He’s shaking at this point and his hands find their way to Yoongi’s cheeks. “I’m so selfish, but I do care about you. I’m falling in love with you and I thought- I don’t know what I thought and I know it’s so selfish of me to come here after hurting you.”

All Yoongi does is shake his head and lace their fingers together.

“I’m selfish, too. We can talk about all of that later, but for now just sleep.”

So he does.

Chapter Text

They wake up at an ungodly hour, 6AM to be exact, and Yoongi packs up a bag of clothes for himself before helping Hoseok into the passenger’s seat of his black SUV. He promises to buy new clothes for Hoseok once they get to Gwangju in order to avoid having to stop at the other’s apartment and waste time. Hoseok laughs because he’d never noticed just how nice of a car Yoongi drove (“A mercedes? How have I never noticed this?”) and the promise of buying new clothes is just a waste of money, but his laughter dies quickly and turns into a wail as he realizes where they’re going and what they’re doing. He thinks that this isn’t how he wanted Yoongi to meet his family, but here they are driving to Gwangju and the stress is too overwhelming for Hoseok to deal with. He doesn’t even know why Yoongi would want to come with him, especially after Hoseok had been so horrible to him earlier, but he’s grateful that he has someone like Yoongi to be there for him.

The entire ride is spent in a strange state of in-and-out consciousness, Hoseok barely registers that Yoongi is holding his hand through the entire three hours of their drive, but he finds comfort in the fact that every time he squeezes the elder’s hand, Yoongi brings it up to his lips and kisses Hoseok’s knuckles. Yoongi doesn’t try to talk to him for the entire ride, he just lets Hoseok’s head loll back and forth as they drive, he lets Hoseok’s thoughts wander because as much as he wants to help he doesn’t quite know how.

When they get to the hospital Hoseok is pulling him as hard and fast as he can up to his father’s room and he doesn’t let go until they get there and Hoseok is stumbling forward to be by his father’s side. Yoongi stands in the corner of the room awkwardly because Hoseok hasn’t introduced him to anyone, even though he recognizes them from the pictures the other has showed him, and he wonders if he should wait outside.

“Hobi,” Yoongi starts softly, ignoring the look that Hoseok’s ex sends him for using the affectionate nickname. “I’m going to wait for you outside, okay?”

“No, can you please stay with me?” Hoseok croaks out, motioning for Yoongi to stand next to him. And who is Yoongi to ignore Hoseok’s wishes? So he takes a few awkward steps forward until he’s by Hoseok’s side and blushes a bright red when the dancer laces their fingers and begins speaking to the man in the bed. “Dad, this is Yoongi. I know I should have told you all about him sooner and that’s my fault because I thought there would be more time for me to introduce you guys.”

Hoseok waits for his father to open his eyes, waits for him to say something about how Yoongi better be treating him well, he waits for him to do anything , but the man lays motionless in the hospital bed and Yoongi finds himself tearing up at how desperate Hoseok sounds. With his free hand, Hoseok grips Youngseok’s hand in his own and holds it up. He wants to cry at how limp his father is and how freely he moves by Hoseok’s will. It’s like in the movies, Yoongi thinks, when someone is dying, but it isn’t until the main character comes and says their piece that the person lets go.

When the heart rate monitor starts to flatline Hoseok sobs and refuses to let go of his father’s hand, but the nurses and doctors are pushing him out of the way and Yoongi is pulling him into his chest so that they can do their job.

“Jung Youngseok. Time of death 10:34 AM.” The doctor calls out and the nurses write it down.

And Yoongi feels Hoseok break in his arms at 10:34 AM.

Hoseok’s mother tells them to meet at her house with the promise of making breakfast, but Yoongi is almost positive nobody will want to eat. Either way, he puts the address in his GPS and drives Hoseok there, hoping that being around his family will help even just a little bit.

When they arrive Daehyun and Dawon are already there and Yoongi feels like he’s the odd man out. Hoseok’s mother, Daehyun, Dawon, and Hoseok are all blotchy faced and red-eyed and Yoongi feels like he’s intruding on something too personal. He looks around to distract himself and takes note of how nice and homey this house feels, nothing like the way his house in Daegu is. Hoseok’s home is large, but not too much to feel empty, and there are photos everywhere of the family together. It feels lived in and it feels like love. Yoongi has always wondered what it would be like to live in a home like that.

“This is Yoongi, everyone.” Hoseok speaks softly, shaking Yoongi from his thoughts. “Yoongi, this is my mother, my sister Dawon, and Daehyun.”

Yoongi bows politely and Hoseok’s mother smiles, even if it doesn’t quite reach her eyes.

“Hello, Yoongi, it’s nice to meet you.” She says softly.

“It’s nice to meet you, too, I’m sorry it had to be this way Mrs.Jung.” He responds, eyes widening comically as she steps towards him to pull him in for a hug. Normally he isn’t a hugger, but he’ll make an exception this time.

“You can call me Hyejoo or if you want mom works, too.” She tells him before stepping back. “I hope something simple is okay for breakfast.”

Yoongi notices Dawon and Daehyun staring at him so he offers them the best smile he can muster before Hoseok’s sister stands up from her spot at the kitchen counter.

“Hoseok never said anything about having a boyfriend.”

“Uh, well...we’re working on things right now.” Yoongi offers and Daehyun frowns at that.

“How long have you two been dating?”

“Well, it’s kind of complicated.” Yoongi says awkwardly, not wanting to meet the eyes of Hoseok’s ex boyfriend.

“We’ve been seeing each other for two years.” Hoseok says from his spot next to his mother as he helps her dice up onions. “But it wasn’t anything serious up until recently.”

“You’ve been dating someone for two years and you didn’t bother to tell any of us?” Dawon asks with her mouth hanging open.

“Like I said, it wasn’t serious, we were just having fun.” Hoseok shrugs and Daehyun’s eyes narrow at that.

“So you were just fucking?” Daehyun asks and Hoseok’s mother gasps.

“Daehyun!” She screeches and Yoongi’s entire face is on fire because this is not how he’d expected this to go.

“Yeah, pretty much. And now we’re dating.” Hoseok is challenging Daehyun to make one wrong move, he’s waiting for Daehyun to step over the line just a little bit more.

“So you think that telling us about your fuck-buddy-turned-boyfriend when dad die- when he passes is the right time?!” Daehyun is angry as he chokes over his words, that much is obvious, and Yoongi understands why, but he won’t let this kid just yell at Hoseok without saying anything. .

“Hey, he’s been through enough today. Lay off of him.” Yoongi says with a frown and the room goes silent.

“Dae it’s obvious you’re angry, but can we not fight. Please?” Hoseok whimpers from his spot. He can’t bring himself to say it out loud, but his father is gone and the last thing he wants to do is deal with Yoongi and Daehyun arguing over him.

Daehyun frowns, but he nods anyway and stands up before stalking out of the house and into the backyard. Dawon frowns at his retreating form before turning to look at her brother and Yoongi.

“He’s just upset, he’s usually not like this.” She mumbles, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “Though I must say it is a surprise to have hoseok bring a new friend around at this time.”

“I wanted dad to meet him.” Hoseok tells her softly, wiping at his eyes as he works on their breakfast. “That and I couldn’t drive here and I wasn’t going to wait for a train so…”

“It’s not a problem, it’s just...a shock, I guess. We can’t give him our best welcome when we’re all so emotional.” Dawon laughs even though it’s not funny and she and Hoseok share a look. It takes all of five seconds for Hoseok to make his way to his older sister and pull her into a hug before they both break down into tears.

When they pull apart Hoseok goes back to helping his mother prepare breakfast and Dawon pulls Yoongi to sit down with her at the counter.

When Daehyun comes back in the house almost twenty minutes later Hyejoo and Hoseok are plating everyone’s breakfast. Hoseok instantly scrunches his nose at the smell of cigarettes that is radiating off of his ex lover.

“Since when did you start smoking again?” He asks and Daehyun shrugs.

“Yesterday.” He mumbles before stepping forward to press a kiss to Hyejoo’s cheek. “I’m leaving, mom. Sorry, I can’t stay for breakfast, but I’ll be back later.”

The woman pouts, but wraps her arms around Daehyun’s neck and gives him a kiss on the cheek right back.

“Okay, baby. Where are you going? Do you want me to send food with you?”

Daehyun shakes his head and smiles gently at her. Yoongi wonders if he’ll ever be this close with Hoseok’s family.

“I’m going to pick up Youngjae.”

“Yoo Youngjae?” Hoseok frowns and Daehyun nods. “Why? Shouldn’t you want to be here with us?”

He doesn’t mean for it to come off so possessively, but Daehyun is a part of the family. Why wouldn’t he want to stay at the house and be with them?

“He wants to make sure I’m okay. He sends his love.”

“Ask him if he’ll be joining us for dinner tonight. I’ll need to go grocery shopping.” Hyejoo says and Hoseok glances between the three of them with confusion written all over his face. Daehyun makes his way to Hoseok and pulls him in for a hug, and despite how lost the younger boy is, he wraps his arms around Daehyun’s waist and lets the other hold him. Daehyun presses a kiss to Hoseok’s forehead before leaving the house, not even bothering to acknowledge Yoongi as he takes off. The green-eyed monster inside of Yoongi is rearing it’s ugly head, but he tells himself he needs to calm down. It’s not a huge deal, he says in his head, they’re grieving. So even though his jaw tightens at the affectionate exchange, he grits his teeth and bears it for Hoseok’s sake.

“So are him and Youngjae a thing or…?” Hoseok glances back and forth between his mother and sister.

“Kind of.” Dawon says with a smile. “We just found out a few days ago, Dae brought him over for dinner to formally meet everyone.”

“Formally meet everyone except for me?” Hoseok frowns and Hyejoo sighs and shakes her head.

“Your father adored him, baby. Be happy for the two of them.”

“Of course I’m happy for them, but how can he sit there and bitch at me for bringing Yoongi around when he’s so desperate to leave and see his boyfriend? Is that not hypocritical?”

“Seok, c’mon, cut the kid a break. He’s just upset.” Dawon’s eyes are watery again and Hoseok feels a pang of guilt in his heart at the sight of his sister crying. “You know, we didn’t get to choose our family. We were born with two parents who loved us unconditionally no matter how many times we messed up, he didn’t have that. At least not until mom and dad took him in, so it probably hurts him even more than it hurts us because the only person who ever gave him a chance and showed him love is gone.”

Hoseok frowns and stares down at his plate of food, not making a move to eat, instead he turns to Yoongi and holds out his arms.

Wordlessly Yoongi makes his way to Hoseok’s side and pulls him close for a hug. He doesn’t miss the smile Dawon throws their way or the way that Heyjoo holds her hands together over her heart. Maybe, just maybe, he can fit in here.

Later on when they’re laying in Dawon’s old bedroom-turned-guestroom, Yoongi leans in to press kisses all along Hoseok’s jawline. It’s meant to be an innocent display of affection, but then Hoseok groans softly and pulls Yoongi to lay on top of him. He finds Yoongi’s lips with his own and tangles his fingers into soft brown locks of hair. He tugs softly at the strands in between his fingers and gasps when Yoongi grinds down onto him, already half-hard. Hoseok spreads his legs a little more, wrapping one around Yoongi’s waist and arching up off of the bed to meet the other half way as their hips roll against each other. Hoseok untangles his fingers from Yoongi’s scalp and lets them fall down to the hem of his shirt, pulling it up and over his head. Yoongi whines as the kiss breaks, but eagerly assists in taking off the offending piece of clothing. As Yoongi undresses Hoseok he takes his time to kiss every inch of skin that is revealed to him, he whispers words like ‘beautiful’ and ‘perfect’ against the younger man’s body until they’re both completely naked. Yoongi takes his time with Hoseok, he’s gentle (as gentle as one can be without any real lube) as he prepares him, and even more gentle when he finally slides into the dancer. Hoseok feels everything Yoongi does, possibly even more and it suffocates him in the best way possible. He feels so much care and adoration, so much comfort with Yoongi in this moment. And for the first time in two years of sleeping together, Hoseok thinks that he and Yoongi make love.

The next few days are a strange blur for Hoseok. He goes from feeling anger, to sadness, to pure bliss, to nothing. He’s a mess of emotions because his father’s funeral is rough on him, it’s rough on everyone, but he also feels inexplicably at peace with the situation. Yoongi was there the entire time to hold his hand, even when he couldn’t understand what Hoseok felt, he assured him that his father was in a better place, no longer suffering or feeling pain. And while Hoseok wishes his father was still there, while he hates the doctors for not doing enough and hates most of the people who come to the funeral to offer half-hearted condolences, he thinks that he’s found home in Yoongi’s arms. And it may not fix everything, but it helps. A lot.

When they go to eat dinner with Hoseok’s family, Yoongi and Daehyun not-so-subtly compete with one another. Who can eat more, who can eat faster, who is a better date to their significant other. When the bill comes both of them whip their credit cards out so fast it gives Hoseok whiplash and the waitress eyes both of them uncomfortably as they argue over who will pay the bill.

“You guys have been through enough, let me take care of it.” Yoongi says in a mock-polite tone.

“No, no. I insist, I want to treat my family to a nice dinner. It’s the least I can do.” Daehyun says back with just as much faux graciousness.

Hoseok looks uncomfortable and Dawon laughs, really laughs, for the first time since Hoseok arrived home. Youngjae places his hand on Daehyun’s shoulder in an attempt to calm him down, but there’s really no stopping the unofficial competition between the two men.

“Please, Yoongi, let me pay for it. You don’t even have a job, yet.” Daehyun smiles and Yoongi’s frown deepens even more if that’s possible.

“I could literally buy you, if I wanted to.” He says, but as soon as the words come out of his mouth he deflates. He notices the way Hoseok’s face falls and how Dawon’s eyebrows raise to her hairline. He sees the way Hyejoo gives him a look of disapproval and how Youngjae scowls at the response. He sighs before shoving his credit card back into his wallet and shaking his head, embarrassed at the words that escaped his mouth. “Nevermind, if you want to treat then by all means.”

The rest of the night for Yoongi is spent sulking in the corner by himself. Trying to ignore the self-deprecating voice in his head telling him that he’s just like his father. He’s exactly the product of the two people he’d been trying to distance himself from and as much as he tells himself that money means nothing to him, he was so quick to pull that little gem out of his back pocket to try and put Daehyun in his place. With these thoughts, he only half-listens as Hoseok and Daehyun tell stories about Youngseok during their high school days.

“Dad thought that we were having sex and barged in the room screaming at the top of his lungs for us to have some respect for his home!” Hoseok is laughing with his head tipped back and all of his teeth on display. He laughs from his gut as he tells this story, wiping tears from his eyes from laughing so hard and Yoongi thinks he’s beautiful. Then Daehyun has to ruin it for him by adding onto it.

“But Hoseok was just trying to teach me how to do the worm...and failing miserably.”

Dawon giggles behind her hand and Hyejoo’s eyes form into crescents as she thinks back on that day.

“You know, he came to bed that night and cried about the possibility of his babies losing their innocence.” She says with a small smile, reaching out to rub Daehyun’s arm as she speaks. “You know he loved you boys so much. He would have done anything for you both...and Dawon, too.”

Yoongi sees the change in Hoseok’s eyes at his mother’s words, he notices the way that Hoseok’s lower lip quivers slightly, and before the younger boy can wipe the tears forming in his eyes again Yoongi is by his side. He lets Hoseok cuddle into his shoulder as he rubs circles on his back. He decides that Hoseok is more important to him than his pride or his jealousy so when the younger male finally stops crying he clears his throat and stands up.

“Daehyun, do you mind having a word with me outside?” Yoongi sucks up his pride and motions towards the door leading to the backyard. Daehyun looks at him questioningly, but gets up from his spot between Hyejoo and Youngjae and follows the other out to the back. Yoongi leans against the porch railing and lets out a sigh. “Look, I’m sorry about earlier. I’m sorry about these past few days, actually. What I said and how I’ve acted this week was really shitty. I just... fuck , I don’t know what’s going on with Hoseok and I and I guess I felt threatened. I don’t know, this is really stupid because I’m not sure how to get what I’m trying to say across, but basically you’re important to Hoseok, so you’re important to me and I’m fucking sorry for being an asshole.”

Daehyun nods and mimics Yoongi’s posture on the railing.

“You know, when Hoseok and I broke up I kind of thought that one day we’d get back together. I thought that he’d come to his senses and leave Seoul behind. But he fell in love with it, you know? He was so mesmerized by the glamor of that God forsaken city and I knew that I had lost him. It wasn’t his fault or mine, we just weren’t meant to be, you know? Even then, I still loved and cared for him a lot because he gave me a family. He gave me this loving mother and father. He gave me a beautiful older sister and he gave me himself, too.” Daehyun pulls a pack of cigarettes out from his back pocket, taking one out for himself before offering one to Yoongi. The two of them light up and Daehyun speaks again. “All I want is for him to be happy. I just want him to do well in life and I hate to see him upset. I guess I just got a little overprotective, so I’m sorry, too.”

“You’re not, like, still in love with him or anything?” Yoongi asks before taking a drag of the cigarette.

“No, God.” Daehyun laughs. “I’m just looking out for him, he’s pretty sensitive and he tends to overthink everything.”

Yoongi laughs at that and nods.

“You can say that again.”

“Let’s try to get along, yeah? For Hoseok’s sake.” Daehyun holds out his hand and Yoongi takes it without any hesitation. “But good luck trying to explain that you smoked a cigarette, he hates them.”

Yoongi curses under his breath and quickly stubs the cancer stick out.

“Well, shit, thanks for the heads up.”

Yoongi tells himself that he’ll do anything to make Hoseok happy, even if it means getting along with strangers who let him smoke cigarettes just to see him get him in trouble.

Chapter Text

Kibum: Where the fuck are you?

Kibum: Your parents are coming to town on Wednesday and I already talked to your mom about Holly.

Kibum: You’re being an ass. Where the fuck are you????

Kibum: ????????????????

Kibum: Min Yoongi. I SWEAR TO GOD! fucking answer me.

Tae: I know I said I wouldn’t get involved, but Kibum is blowing my phone up????

Tae: Are you in Seoul? I called your roommate since I couldn’t get a hold of you and he told me you weren’t in town??  I’m going to head there with your brother on Monday, your parents will be flying in on Wednesday. Your brother got us an airbnb, but I’m pretty sure Kibum asked your parents if he could stay with us for some reason. Once again, not getting involved, just giving you a heads up.

Tae: Also, is it smart to be missing class a week before graduation???

Min Yoongi: Hoseok’s father passed away, I brought him home for the week. I’ll be back on Monday. Tell Kibum to fuck right off. It’s dead week, dude, I e-mailed mine and Hoseok’s profs already and explained to them what was going on. My professors let me turn in all of my assignments&papers through e-mail and Hoseok’s professors are giving him an extension...we gotta be back up there for finals, though, so we’re heading back tomorrow night.

Min Yoongi: I don’t have time to deal with Kibum right now. Can you tell my mom and dad that they need to stop babying him? I haven’t told them about Hoseok, yet, so I’m hoping once I do they’ll get off my back w the kibum thing.

Tae: He called Yoonhyung yesterday and hyung was like “aren’t you and my brother broken up? Why are you talking to me???” I love Kibummie, but that shit was so funny. You&your brother are so much alike sometimes. Too blunt/to the point.

Min Yoongi: Ha. Yeah, I guess so. What time are you going to get to Seoul on Monday?

Tae: Idk...probably going to head there around noon.

Min Yoongi: Sweet, I only have two finals in the morning and I think Hoseok has a lab final? Don’t quote me on that, idk if they took their lab finals already. If he’s up to it the four of us can go eat lunch together.

Tae: I’d love that, I want to meet him!

Min Yoongi: I want you guys to meet him, too, especially because I know meeting mom and dad is going to be intense, I don’t want to spring everyone on him at once. It just depends on how he’s feeling. He was really close to his dad and he’s been in and out of it since we got here...sometimes he seems okay and then sometimes he completely loses it. I don’t want to make him uncomfortable when he’s already like this.

Tae: Whatever makes him the most comfortable, I don’t mind…

Tae: So are you guys pretty serious, then? I’m assuming so if you’re with him (&his family???) during a time like this.

Min Yoongi: Man, I don’t even know. Before his dad passed away, he wanted to break things off with me and I was so fucking mad at him that I went to see Kibum. I’m so stupid- I know this. But then when I got home, he was getting to my place at the same time and he was crying and I don’t know...I couldn’t even be upset with him because he was crying about his dad.

Tae: Why did he want to break things off?

Min Yoongi: Bc of Kibum.

Tae: So logically you went to see Kibum after that, of course that makes so much sense. :|

Min Yoongi: I was just mad, dude. I was SO mad at him. But then I got to Kibum’s and it was so stupid. I’ve never had a problem getting it up, but I couldn’t get hard and I didn’t want to even kiss him. What do you think that means?

Tae: Idk...your dick felt guilty? At least you didn’t sleep with him.

Min Yoongi: Yeah, but then when I saw Hoseok I felt so bad??? He was the one who wanted to end whatever it is that we’re doing, not me. I don’t get why I felt so guilty

Tae: Do you think it’s bc you’re in love with him?

Min Yoongi: He told me he’s starting to fall in love with me...idk what that means.

Tae: That’s cute, but you didn’t answer my question. Are you in love with him?

Min Yoongi: …

Min Yoongi: Yeah. I am.

Seokjinnie: Yo, when are u coming home?

Seokjinnie: Rapmon is out to play tonight -eyeroll-

Seokjinnie: I miss u

Seokjinnie: I’m stuck with “rap monster” writing ridiculous raps about my butt. pls shoot me.

Min Yoongi: We’re heading out tomorrow night. Got a final monday morning. You think you can handle him for one more day???

Seokjinnie: Ugh. i’ll try. How’s Hoseok holding up?

Min Yoongi: He’s doing the best he can. I’m sure it’s hard on him. His family is all super close to one another.

Seokjinnie: Yeah, i don’t know what i’d do if my daddy died.

Min Yoongi: Did you just fucking call your father ‘daddy’??

Seokjinnie: Yeah?? What’s wrong with that??

Min Yoongi: Don’t you think that’s a little, idk, girly or something?

Seokjinnie: “Rapmon” says that i don’t have to conform to the gender roles society forces on me. What does “girly” even mean??? There is no true definition of what it means to be a man or a woman, not even the genitals between ur legs.

Min Yoongi: Wtf does that even mean?? Stop calling Namjoon by his stage name and putting it in quotation marks, it’s fucking weird.

Seokjinnie: Idk...but Joon lets me wear pink, call my dad ‘daddy’, and call my asshole my pussy in bed, so i’ll say whatever& agree to whatever the fuck he wants me to. :) :) :) :)

Min Yoongi: What

Min Yoongi: The

Min Yoongi: Fuck

Seokjinnie: :)

Min Yoongi: You’re fucking gross.

Seokjinnie: Don’t talk to my baby like that. You’re just jealous because you and Hoseok haven’t reached this level of comfort, yet. You can’t even tell him about all of your weird sexual desires. I know that you’re into getting slapped in the face when you’re about to cum. You told Hoseok that, yet? Nah, cause you’re a little bitch who’s too scared. At least my baby is comfortable enough in his own skin to tell me what he wants.

Min Yoongi: The fuck, Namjoon? I told you that in confidence, dude. Also, you are getting way too fucking defensive. Give the phone back to Jin.

Seokjinnie: I can’t, he’s preoccupied. He’s got a mouthful right now...can’t come to the phone, you know?

Min Yoongi: He must not be very good if you can still text while he’s got your dick in his mouth, huh?

Seokjinnie: [photo received]

Min Yoongi: Are you two in my room? What is he wearing????

Seokjinnie: I believe the correct term is a ‘teddy’? I’m not the one who buys these things, I just give him my credit card and let him do whatever he wants, so I really wouldn’t know the name.

Seokjinnie: [photo received]

Min Yoongi: Okay, that is definitely my room. Get the fuck out of there.

Seokjinnie: [photo received]

Min Yoongi: I’m moving out. You can keep my bed.

Yoongi uses one hand to play with the strands of Hoseok’s hair and the other to text his friends, he tries not to laugh out loud at the conversation with Namjoon and Seokjin because Hoseok is finally sleeping, but his roommates never fail to make him smile. He glances down at Hoseok, who is sleeping soundly with his head in Yoongi’s lap, and he snaps a quick picture. Unfortunately for him, he forgot to turn the flash off and the bright light stirs Hoseok from his sleep.

“Yoongi...what the hell?” Hoseok asks, his voice is groggy from sleep and he brings one hand to his face to rub the sleep from his eyes. Yoongi wants to commit this moment to memory because Hoseok looks and sounds so damn good . “What time is it?”

“It’s three, everyone decided to take a nap right around when you fell asleep so you haven’t missed anything.”

“Are Daehyun and Youngjae still here?” The younger man asks as he sits up and stretches. Yoongi nods in response. “Dae is supposed to take me to get my dad’s ashes later, mom and Dawon don’t want to go.”

“Oh, do you want me to stay here?” Yoongi asks, even though he really doesn’t want to be left behind in Hoseok’s house. Sure he may get along with Dawon and Hyejoo, but it might be awkward if he’s alone with them.

Hoseok furrows his eyebrows and shakes his head with his lips coming together to form a pout.

“What? No, I want you to be there with me. Unless you don’t want to, I’m sure my mom doesn’t mind you staying.”

“No, I want to go with you. I just didn’t know if that was something that was too...personal.”

Hoseok rolls his eyes at that and pinches Yoongi on the thigh.

“If it was too personal, I wouldn’t have asked you to come. Besides, I think we’re past the point of getting too personal, I freaking showed up at your apartment crying about my dad.” Hoseok’s voice cracks at the last word and Yoongi feels guilty for even saying anything.

Instead of speaking, Yoongi pulls Hoseok into a hug and lets the younger man cry into his shoulder. Hoseok has been having these small breakdowns every day, Yoongi notes, but they’re just short moments of crying before he collects himself and acts like everything's fine. It worries Yoongi, but he thinks that he’s never experienced any sort of loss, so he doesn’t know what’s normal or not. He sticks to just being a shoulder Hoseok can lean on.

The following night, Yoongi has to practically force Hoseok to get in the car, the younger man being far too reluctant to leave his family, and promises Dawon and Hyejoo that he’ll take care of the dancer. Hoseok clings tightly to the small urn his mother gave him. She’d had the ashes of his father split into four urns so that each member of their family and Daehyun could have a piece of Youngseok with them. Hoseok refuses to set the small heart-shaped vase down in fear that it will break and Yoongi doesn’t have the heart to make him.

They stay the night at Hoseok’s apartment, which is rare simply for the fact that Yoongi hates leaving his room, and as soon as they arrive Jimin is pulling Hoseok into a tight hug.

“I was so worried about you! You’ve lost weight!” Jimin fusses over his friend, grabbing his face and studying with a frown. “And you look like shit. Yoongi, why didn’t you make him eat?!”

“I tried!” Yoongi defends himself, holding his hands up in the air. He tries not to be too offended by the glare that Jimin sends him.

“Well, you should have tried harder.” The smaller boy snaps and for being so cute, Yoongi thinks Jimin is fucking scary.

“It’s not his fault, I just haven’t had much of an appetite. I’ll be okay.” Hoseok is still holding onto the urn as if his life depends on it and honestly Yoongi is just a little worried that the poor boy is going to hurt his hands from how tightly he grips it.

“Hi, hyung.” Jungkook smiles and Jimin slaps him on the chest.

“No! We don’t like Yoongi anymore.” The older boy hisses and Jungkook pouts, but nods and shuts his mouth.

“Why don’t we like Yoongi anymore?” Yoongi asks with a raised eyebrow.

“Because you can’t even properly take care of my baby Hoseok.” Jimin tells him matter-of-factly.

“Uh, I think he’s my baby Hoseok, actually.” The rapper grins and Hoseok’s face turns red.

It’s weird to hear Yoongi say, even though the brunette has being saying things like that all week. Usually it’s ‘babe’ or ‘Seok’, baby just felt too intimate before, but now he kind of likes how the word rolls off of Yoongi’s tongue.

“No.” Is all Jimin says with his arms crossed. “Seok, do you want to come lay with Jungkook and I? I downloaded The BFG and Moana!”

Hoseok laughs at that, but shakes his head, finally letting one hand free of the urn to reach out and put on Yoongi’s shoulder.

“I think we’re just going to go to bed. It’s been a long week. And Jungkook, we like Yoongi. Don’t let Jimin tell you otherwise.”

“Okay, so now you want me to be team Yoongi, but before you were all like ‘why are you never on my side?’” Jimin frowns and leans back onto Jungkook who happily wraps his arms around the smaller man’s shoulders, bringing his hands together at Jimin’s chest.

“Since when are there sides? I’m so lost.” Yoongi glances between the two of them with knitted eyebrows.

“Hyung, you just gotta let them speak their own language. Roommate stuff.” Jungkook says with a laugh as he presses a kiss to top of Jimin’s head. “Just nod along and pretend like you know what’s going on.”

Yoongi offers the other couple a strange look before nodding his head and following Hoseok to his bedroom.

When they’re finally settled into bed with Hoseok’s head resting on Yoongi’s shoulder, Yoongi speaks.

“So, does your roommate hate me?”

“No, he’s usually the one sticking up for you when I’m upset.” Hoseok mumbles as he plays with the collar of Yoongi’s t-shirt.

“You talk about me to them?”

“Do you talk about me to Namjoon and Seokjin?” Hoseok asks with a roll of his eyes and Yoongi nods.

“Well, yeah.”

“Then obviously I talk to my roommate about you, too.” Hoseok lets out a sigh as he bunches the fabric of Yoongi’s shirt together. “I’m sorry.”

“For what?” Yoongi asks, bringing his hand down to Hoseok’s so that he can lace their fingers together.

“For everything. I freaked out on you last week, tried to end this without even talking to you about it, and then I showed up at your apartment like a crazy person. I wasn’t even thinking about you or how you felt. I was being selfish and that was really uncool of me.”

Yoongi hums, nodding his head and closing his eyes as he tries to think of what to say.

“It was pretty uncool, but I get it. I mean, I know I’m not the easiest person to get along with and I do stupid, all the time .” Yoongi frowns at his own words. “But I’m trying here. I’m trying as best as I can and I don’t know what to do know? With Kibum- He and I- We- Ugh . I don’t know. We were friends since we were kids, I know him like the back of my hand. I always knew what to do with him because before we were together we were best friends, you know? This is completely new to me. The whole dating someone while trying to get to know them thing, it’s weird for me. You’re not the only one worried or freaking out. I told you that already.”

“I know. I’m sorry.” Hoseok mumbles into Yoongi’s shoulder. “I freaked out and I shouldn’t have.”

“Just talk to me . I may not be Seokjin or Jimin or whoever else there is who can talk for hours and hours on end easily, but I’ll try. I’m putting all of my effort into making this work, but it’s not enough if you’re not on board, too.”

“Feelings freak me out.” Hoseok fake-laughs quietly. “I realized that I was really starting to fall for you and it scared me.”

“Let me ask you something.” Yoongi says, staring down at their hands. Hoseok swears the other is blushing, but the lighting in the room is too dim for him to really tell. “Do you love me? When you wanted to stop seeing me you said you were starting to fall in love with me.”

Hoseok swallows the lump in his throat, tries not to panic, and nods hesitantly.

“I do.”

“Well, then you should know.” Yoongi lets out a shaky breath. “You should know that I love you, too. And if we love each other, if we’re going to make this work, then we need to be honest with each other, okay? I can’t read your mind, I don’t know what’s wrong unless you tell me.”

“I’m jealous of Kibum.” Hoseok blurts out.

“What? Why ?”

“I don’t know! I just am! He still talks to your family, you guys practically shared a freaking dog, he’s got this whole confident bitch thing going for him. I don’t know.” Hoseok shrugs. “I’m not like that. I’m nothing like him at all and it sucks because he’s hot and-”

“You know, if I wanted to be with someone like Kibum, I would have stayed in that relationship. Trust me, I love you the way you are. I hate the ‘confident bitch’ thing he has going on because it’s fake as fuck. He’s not a nice person at all.”

“Tell me how you really feel.” Hoseok mumbles with a real laugh this time and Yoongi grins.

“I’m just being honest, okay? He’s a shitty person and I don’t like it. That’s why I broke up with him. Have you not heard the way he talks to me? Or the way we fight? We’re not even dating anymore and he treats me like that, can you imagine how bad it was before?” Yoongi asks and Hoseok shakes his head because no, he really can’t imagine it being any worse than it already was. “I need to tell you something else.”

Yoongi looks scared to speak and Hoseok frowns. Something tells him he’s not going to like what Yoongi has to say, but he presses the older man to continue.

“What is it? You have to be honest with me, remember? Your words, not mine.”

“I went to see Kibum that night.”

And Hoseok doesn’t need to ask because he knows exactly what night Yoongi was talking about. It hurts Hoseok, it hurts him so bad, but he tries to understand.

“This is so fucked up, but I wanted to get back at you.”

“That’s really mature.” Hoseok says with a frown, he shifts his body weight and scoots away from Yoongi, but Yoongi grabs his arm and pulls him right back.

“Stop, come back here. I know it was really immature of me and I’m sorry.”

“Are you? I have a lapse of stupidity and you go crawling back to him when you swore to me you wouldn’t?”

“You said you didn’t want to be with me anymore! Nothing happened, I swear. I just went over there, he tried to get me in the mood, but it didn’t work. Then I left.”

Hoseok looks like he’s going to start crying and for a moment Yoongi regrets even saying anything. It takes the younger man a whole minute before he can think clearly again and the expression on his face makes Yoongi’s stomach flip-flop. He wonders if he’d just ruined everything, but he hopes that Hoseok will forgive him for fucking up yet again.

“Do you even care about me? You’re fucking sitting here telling me you love me only to tell me five minutes later you were ready to go and fuck your ex as some sort of fucked up revenge scheme.”

Yoongi has the decency to hang his head in shame. Hoseok sighs and shakes his head, staring up at the ceiling as he thinks, different expressions flash across his face and Yoongi can’t figure out what the other is thinking.

“Okay, look. Kibum is going to have to stop being a fucking factor in this. You need to cut him off if you want anything to work between us.”

“He is cut off.” Yoongi tells him and Hoseok rolls his eyes.

“I’m not going to- I won’t be mad at you for this because I can understand that I hurt you and as annoying and immature as it was, you made a mistake. Seriously, though, I want you to be done with him. This is so annoying that I even have to give you a lecture about your ex again.”

“I hear you.” Yoongi starts. “Loud and clear, I get it. I fucked up. I keep on fucking up here and I’m trying to do things right by you, but apparently I’m doing a shitty job-”

“You’re not doing a shitty job, you were there for me when I needed you even after I hurt you. And I get that I hurt you and it was wrong of me to have shut you out instead of talking to you about it, but then when you do things like this it makes me think that there is backing for my feelings. I’m not just being crazy or paranoid, I have a genuine concern and you’re not doing anything to alleviate that worry.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Stop being sorry, Yoongi. Just fucking figure it out. Figure out how you feel about him and how you feel about me and then do whatever you need to do in order to make things right.”

“I don’t need to figure anything out. I know how I feel about you and how I feel about him. I just told you that I’m in love with you and I meant it.”

Hoseok sighs and rests his head on Yoongi’s shoulder, he doesn’t want to argue anymore. He just wants things to be easy again.

“Then start acting like it, please?” He leans over and kisses Yoongi’s cheek before closing his eyes. “I’m too tired to fight with you, let’s just...move on with our lives, okay? No matter how mad you get at me from now on, can you at least promise me you won’t make any stupid decisions like that?”

Yoongi nods dumbly in response.

"Yeah, I promise."

With the seemingly minor fight put behind them, Yoongi finds himself at Hoseok’s apartment after his second final of the day. His brother and Taehyung arrived in Seoul sometime between the start and finish of his medical terminology final and Yoongi is both relieved and nervous to be introducing Hoseok to two of the most important people in his life.

Currently, Hoseok is fretting in front of his closet with no idea what to wear to their lunch date with Yoongi’s brother and friend. All Yoongi can do is laugh as he sorts through everything he owns.

“What should I wear?”

“Just wear jeans and a t-shirt. We’re just going to lunch.”

“With your brother and one of your best friends!” Hoseok screeches.

He’s about to have a full on mental meltdown when Jimin stomps into his room and throws a cream colored sweater in his face. It’s soft and it feels expensive when Hoseok runs his hands over it.

“Wear this, dear God . Jungkook and I are trying to get in a pre-final stress fuck in and we can’t do that with you screaming. Put on those black pants you have that make your butt look good and borrow my white loafers that are on the shoe rack. You’ll look simple, but good. You’re fucking welcome. Now go.”

Jimin leaves the bedroom and Yoongi has to use all of his willpower not to laugh out loud. Hoseok still glares at him over his shoulder as they get ready to go.

When they get to Vault, Hoseok is nervous. It’s one of the best steakhouses in Korea, or so he’s been told because he’s never been, but here Yoongi’s brother is taking them for lunch like it’s no big deal. He trails behind Yoongi, feeling uncomfortable and out of place, even though he knows he looks fine thanks to Jimin, and stops at a table with two men already there waiting for them. One of them he recognizes from Yoongi’s phone as Taehyung and the other one looks so much like Yoongi, he would be an idiot not to see that the two of them are related.

“Hoseok, this is my brother, Yoonhyung, and my best friend, Taehyung.”

Taehyung stands immediately and pulls Hoseok into a hug. It’s unexpected, but strangely comforting and Hoseok feels himself relax into the embrace. Yoonhyung simply offers Hoseok a tight-lipped smile and if Yoongi hadn’t warned him beforehand that Yoonhyung’s personality is the same as Yoongi’s and multiplied by a thousand, he would have been worried.

Taehyung takes control of the conversation easily, he and Hoseok seem to work off of each other’s energy and keep the table from having even a moment of silence. All of Hoseok’s worries of Taehyung hating him because of Kibum are washed away only five minutes into the conversation and he learns that Taehyung is quite the talkative person.

When their food arrives, Yoonhyung finally speaks up and it catches Hoseok off guard.

“How long have you and my brother been dating?” He asks and Yoongi chokes on his salad. This is the second time they’ve been asked this by a family member, but Yoongi finds himself more nervous than when Hoseok’s mother asked.

“Uhm…” Apparently Hoseok is just as intimidated because he can’t find words, any words, to respond.

“It’s been a while, hyung.” Yoongi finally says and Yoonhyung raises an eyebrow.

“And you never mentioned to us that you were in a relationship?”

“Technically they aren’t in a relationship, hyung.” Taehyung chimes in and Yoongi glares at him. Thanks a lot Kim Taehyung .

“Not in a relationship? So just dating for fun, then?” Yoonhyung asks, though he doesn’t seem to expect an actual answer. “Mother is going to cry when she hears that.”

The man actually smiles when he says it and Hoseok wonders if Yoonhyung holds the same disdain for his parents that Yoongi does.

“We’ve been taking our, uh, relationship more seriously lately, hyung.” Yoongi says as he takes a sip of water and Yoonhyung nods. "And...and I love him, I really do."

It's endearing to hear Yoongi admit it to his brother and one of his best friends, so the Hoseok can't stop the stupid smile spreading across his face. Somehow it feels more real when Yoongi declares his love to other people than when he said it to Hoseok. It makes it feel true, like he's not afraid to hide his feelings for Hoseok from anyone.

“We don’t have to tell mother and father that just yet, though, do we?”

The brothers share a knowing smirk and Hoseok wonders just what he’s gotten himself into.

When the waitress comes and asks if anyone wants dessert, Yoonhyung tells them all to order whatever they want and when Hoseok tells Yoongi he can’t decide between the creme brulee or the chocolate mousse, Yoonhyung orders both for him. The eldest at the table reminds Hoseok so much of Yoongi, it’s alarming. They’re so alike, yet so different at the same time. Hoseok doesn’t realize he’s said this out loud until Yoonhyung actually laughs at him.

“Yes, we’re very similar, I suppose. We did grow up in the same environment and if you knew our parents, you’d understand why we are the way we are.” He clears his throat. “However, Yoongi and I handled our upbringing differently. Obviously, what with his musical career and all. He really had to go and upset our parents with that one.”

Hoseok wants to ask if their parents are really that bad, but he doesn’t have the courage to so instead stares down at his lap when the dessert arrives and thanks Yoonhyung quietly when the older man hands over his black card to the waitress to pay for the bill.

When he and Yoongi are getting ready to head back to Hoseok’s apartment, he doesn’t miss the way that Yoonhyung affectionately pats Yoongi on the head and pulls the smaller boy into a hug. And when he hears a quiet “I like him, you keep him around and be good to him” from the eldest son of the Min family, he actually blushes. Taehyung exchanges phone numbers with Hoseok happily before Yoonhyung offers him another one of those not-quite smiles from earlier.

“We’ll be seeing you this weekend, then?” He asks in reference to Yoongi’s graduation and Hoseok nods. “Good, I look forward to it.”

And that little bit of encouragement gives Hoseok a brand new bounce in his step, suddenly he feels like he’s ready to take on the world.

Chapter Text

For Yoongi the week flies by a lot quicker than he would have expected. It seems as though his professors purposefully gave him the most difficult finals they could create as one last 'fuck you' to the senior, but studying with Hoseok curled up in bed with him admittedly made things just a tiny bit better. One thing Yoongi was looking forward to was finally getting the Hoseok he knew and loved back. Before finals week, Yoongi didn't know that Hoseok could be so quiet and it was strange to say the least, but with the week over he finally gets his over-enthused weirdo back.

However, with the good comes the bad and although Yoongi is excited to be done with school he's now faced with the daunting task of dealing with his parents. He'd somehow managed to convince them he was too busy to see them during the week due to wanting to do well on his exams (ha!), but now that he has no more excuses, he finds himself at a stuffy restaurant with the two of them as well as Taehyung and Yoonhyung.
"So, honey, are you excited to graduate tomorrow?" His mother, Miyoung, asks, her voice drips with too much affection and Yoongi has to try not to gag.
"Your father and I were talking, you know? We think you should reconsider grad school."
Yoongi knew this was coming, Yoonhyung had warned him the night before, but it still irritates him to no end. His parents wanted him to go to grad school, wanted him to become a psychologist just like his father and brother, but they had a deal; They'd let Yoongi pursue his musical career if he studied psychology in college. He wasn't about to let them forget it.
"I told you already, mother, I've been offered a few jobs already with several different companies producing music. You said-"
"I know what I said, Yoongi, but come on. Let's be realistic here."

She talks to him like he's a child and Yoongi can't stand it. Her voice is filled with faux-concern and to her youngest son it sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

“If this is what you want to talk about, I’ll leave now.” Yoongi stands up and his father shoots him a look.

Min Yoonjae, a man to be feared and admired, holds a hand up to stop his wife from speaking anymore and Yoongi almost scoffs at the two of them. His father is infuriating and ill-mannered and his mother is just weak , he thinks.

“Sit back down right now and quit embarrassing us.” He says, voice low and eyes in slits. Yoongi rolls his eyes, but takes a seat anyway.

He glances at Taehyung and briefly he feels embarrassed that the younger by has to sit with the family and listen to their petty arguments, but then he remembers that Taehyung actually likes his parents and enjoys being around them. He looks up to them and thinks they’re so wonderful even though Yoongi has told him countless how horrible they are. Yoongi doesn’t fault him, though, because the only people who truly see how horrible Yoonjae and Miyoung are happen to be their sons.

“I will not be considering it, parents.” Yoongi says and Yoonhyung sighs.

“Let’s give Yoongi some time to breathe, yeah? He’s graduating tomorrow, don’t stress him out with your nonsense right now.” The elder son says, resting a hand on Yoongi’s shoulder.

“Well, I just think with your research right now, son, your brother could really help you out.” Miyoung says, everyone at the table can sense the change in her tone, but nobody says anything about it.

“Don’t you mean father’s research that I’m being practically forced to continue?” Yoonhyung asks, raising an eyebrow and challenging his mother to speak again. Yoongi laughs when the woman looks down at her plate, but is cut off when his father reprimands both of them.

“Your mother brought you into this world and raised the two of you little ungrateful brats. Show some respect.” He hisses.

There is an awkward silence for a few moments before Taehyung speaks.

“So, tomorrow are we all sitting together with Hoseok and your friends?”

“Uh, I don’t know. You have his number, call him.” Yoongi mumbles. He sees the way his mother perks up at the name, no doubt curious about Yoongi’s new friend as she’s been calling him all week.

“Is it appropriate for me to call him? I guys are, like-”

“You call Kibum all the time and you did it when we were dating, what’s the difference?” The brunette rolls his eyes as he stuffs a piece of meat in his mouth.

“Well, I mean, Kibum and I have been friends our whole lives!”

“I don’t care if you call him, you guys got along great the other day.”

Yoongi’s mother keeps looking at him like she wants him to tell her more about Hoseok, especially since Yoongi hasn’t actually said anything to his parents about him. The only reason they know anything about the younger boy is because of Taehyung and Yoonhyung.

He ignores the looks and let’s her suffer for the rest of the night.

Hoseok tells Yoongi he can’t stay the night, says he’s too busy with Jimin and Jungkook who have decided to get absolutely smashed to celebrate the end of the semester. The older man tries to pout until he gets his way, but the dancer is good at resisting his charms.

“Get some rest, I’ll see you tomorrow!”

It’s annoying and all Yoongi wants to do is fuck Hoseok until 3AM and then wake up late and miss graduation. He supposes that would be the best revenge on his parents, to keep the image of him walking across the stage from them. He can’t be that cruel, though, because Yoonhyung and Taehyung have come, as well. He lets out a sigh before standing from his bed and making his way to the kitchen where Seokjin is baking a cake and Namjoon is watching like a lovesick puppy. Yoongi plops down at the table next to Namjoon taps his fingers on the surface.

“What are you guys doing?” He asks and Namjoon points to Seokjin, who is mixing cake batter.

“I’m making a cake for tomorrow. I made coconut cream pie for your mother and now I’m making red velvet for you. I’ll make a small batch of chocolate cupcakes for your brother, as well, but probably not until tomorrow.”

“Why not? Are they not coming over tomorrow?” Seokjin frowns and Yoongi sighs before shrugging his shoulders.

“I mean...yeah they are, but you don’t have to bake for them.”

“Oh, no, I couldn’t not bake for them! Your mother always sends me clothes and hooks me up. She’s a saint.”

Yoongi huffs at that. His parents are nice to everyone, except for their own children, and Yoongi hates it because it seems so fake. Sure, his mother is sweet at times, but she’d never stood up for Yoongi, Yoonhyung, or herself throughout Yoongi’s entire twenty-three years of living. She’d always allowed Yoongi’s father to mistreat the three of them and for that Yoongi can’t find it in himself to be kind to her. He thinks that his parents are concerned with money and appearances, they’ve never once bothered to ask Yoongi what he wanted to do with his life, they’d always just pushed and pushed and pushed for him to study psychology and follow in his father’s footsteps. Now all Yoongi feels towards the pair of them is resentment.

“Are you sitting with my parents tomorrow?” Yoongi asks and Seokjin nods as he pours the cake batter into a pan and hands the mixing bowl to Namjoon.

Almost instantly Namjoon has his face in the bowl, licking the sides and lapping up all of the excess batter. Yoongi snorts at that and shakes his head, he pulls out his cell phone and takes a photo of the scene in front of him. Seokjin rolls his eyes at his boyfriend, but takes a seat next to him.

“You guys are so gross.” Yoongi mumbles. “What about Hoseok? Is he sitting with you guys?”

“I texted him, but I’m not sure if he’s going to sit with us or not. He said he’s not sure if he wants to meet your parents without you there.”

“I don’t care.”

“I know, I told him that, but he’s worried about it.” Seokjin shrugs and hooks an elbow with Namjoon’s. “I think he’s also a little worried about Kibum being there.”

“Well, I told my brother to make sure Kibum stays away, so…”

“What’s the deal with Holly? Your brother told me that Kibum called your mom and cried to her about the whole thing.”

“Yeah, I don’t even know what he told them, but I told them just to bring Holly here tomorrow and to stop answering Kibum’s calls.” Yoongi sighs and shakes his head. “I don’t get why they feel like they need to baby him, he’s a fucking adult.”

“I’m sure they just feel bad, your families have been friends forever, Yoongi.” Seokjin tells him with a shrug and Yoongi has to resist every urge to roll his eyes. Instead he stands up with a stretch and shakes his head.

“You know what? Whatever. I’m going to bed.”

The next morning is hectic. Hoseok is running all around Bang Coliseum trying to find his roommate and roommate’s boyfriend. He knows he looks ridiculous carrying around giant posters with Yoongi’s name on them and if he doesn’t find Jungkook and Jimin soon he’s going to be angry. He’d lied to Yoongi when he said he was going to go out and party with his roommates and instead spend the entire night making the perfect graduation posters to hold up when his not-quite-boyfriend’s name is called during the graduation ceremony. When he finally spots Jungkook and Jimin thanks to Jimin’s bright pink hair (he’d decided that dying his hair was more important than helping Hoseok with the posters and then convinced Hoseok it was a good idea to dye his own hair, as well) he calls out for the younger boys. He stops dead in his tracks when he realizes that Jimin isn’t just with Jungkook, but also Namjoon, Seokjin, Yoonhyung, Taehyung, and two people that he doesn’t recognize. He may not know them, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that they’re Yoongi’s parents.

“Hoseok! Hi!” Taehyung practically screams, waving his hands frantically at the other.

Since he’s been spotted, Hoseok figures he can’t run away from this one so he cautiously makes his way over to the group. He smiles shyly at Yoonhyung and his parents, but keeps his gaze towards the floor. Meeting Taehyung and Yoonhyung was one thing, but meeting Yoongi’s parents terrified Hoseok.

“You made posters?” Seokjin asks, grabbing one of the four posters Hoseok slaved over all night. “Oh my gosh, how sweet is this? Namjoon didn’t do this for me when I graduated!”

He holds up the posters for Yoongi’s parents and brother to see and Namjoon laughs out loud, earning a smack on the shoulder from his boyfriend.

“That’s very nice of you.” Yoongi’s mother tells him softly and her smile makes Hoseok feel just a bit more comfortable. “Are you dating my son?”

Well that was straight to the point, Hoseok thinks, but instead of answering he chews on his lower lip. He doesn’t know exactly what to say, so he stays silent and pretends like he didn’t hear the question.

“They’re not in an official relationship, mom.” Yoonhyung says, wearing the same smirk he wore on Wednesday when Yoongi told him that the two of them weren’t exactly boyfriends.

Miyoung’s face falls and Hoseok actually feels a little guilty for being unable to give the woman the answer she wanted. Yoonjae wraps an arm around his wife’s shoulders and eyes Hoseok.

“So, then, do you plan on starting a relationship with my son or are you two just wasting time together?” The man asks.

If Hoseok was shocked earlier he was absolutely dumbfounded now.

“Well, we’re working on things. We both have a lot on our plates right now, so…”

“Interesting.” Yoonjae mutters to himself as he studies Hoseok’s body language and Yoonhyung actually scoffs at his father.

“Don’t do that.” The eldest son says with a frown and Yoonjae raises an eyebrow at his son.

“I was just looking at him.”

“And you’ve been retired for years now, don’t analyze people who aren’t your patients.”

Hoseok smiles awkwardly and takes a few steps back. Meeting Yoongi’s parents was not going at all how he wanted it to and he’s becoming more and more anxious as the minutes pass.

“Are you uncomfortable?” Taehyung asks, taking a step forward and hooking an arm with Hoseok’s. “I know that it can be a little intimidating with them, but they’re really nice. Just, very blunt”

He whispers the last part in Hoseok’s ear with the hint of a laugh and the older boy just nods and clears his throat. He tries to relax, but stays silent as Taehyung and Seokjin start walking into the seating area. He’s thankful that everyone is silent during the graduation and when Yoongi’s name is called he stands up and holds his poster up high, hooting and hollering for the older man, shame long forgotten as soon as Min Yoongi, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Magna Cum Laude is called out. Yoongi’s parents simply clap and stare straight ahead.

Hoseok wonders why no one else finds it strange.

After the ceremony ends, Yoongi finds his friends and family quickly. He can see on Hoseok’s face that the other is uncomfortable, so he bypasses his parents and heads straight to the pink and gray haired man.

“Hey.” He grins, reaching up to run his fingers through Hoseok’s hair. “I like this, it’s cute.”

Hoseok smiles and leans into the touch for a moment before he realizes that the two of them aren’t alone.

“Thanks.” He mumbles as he straightens up and holds out one of the posters. “I made these.”

A look of adoration flashes across the brunette’s face as he reaches out and takes the poster from Hoseok.

“I saw that. Is this the real reason you didn’t come over last night?”

Hoseok only nods in response, so Yoongi laughs and pulls him in for a hug and plants a soft kiss on his cheek.

When it’s time to take photos, Yoongi only smiles in the one he takes with Hoseok.

The group of friends find themselves at Yoongi, Namjoon, and Seokjin’s shared apartment an hour later. Yoonjae and Miyoung would be arriving later as they had to pick Holly up from the house they were renting out for the week, so Yoongi takes the time to relax before he has to deal with his parents again. He sits on the couch with Hoseok and tries to ignore the chattering all around him, instead focusing all of his attention on the person leaning into his side.

“How was meeting my parents?” He asks and Hoseok whines.

“I don’t think they like me.”

“I’m sure they do, they like everyone except for Yoonhyung and I.” Yoongi pinches Hoseok’s cheek as he speaks and tries to smooth out the lines of distress on the other’s face. “I promise, they just come off as...dickish. They’re really only assholes to Yoonhyung and I.”

“Your dad asked me if we were just wasting our time together or if we were going to actually be in a relationship.”

Yoongi snorts at that (“Typical Min Yoonjae behavior.” He says under his breath) which earns him a pinch on the thigh from Hoseok.

“What did you tell him?”

“I said we have a lot of stuff going on, but that we were working on it.”

“Okay, well, what about if we just go for it?” Yoongi runs his fingers through Hoseok’s hair, a smile tugs at his lips when Hoseok’s eyebrows scrunch up together.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean- you know, like, be my boyfriend or whatever.”

“Officially?” Hoseok’s face is bright red and this was the last thing he was expecting to happen today. For some reason, he’d thought that when he and Yoongi did decide to become official it would be a lot more romantic. This is just a bit anticlimactic, but for some reason he doesn’t really mind.

“Yeah, have to change your facebook status to ‘in a relationship’ and put my name in your instagram bio.”

Hoseok can tell that Yoongi is only half joking, he knows that deep down even if Yoongi swears he doesn’t like PDA or social media (That’s not what his instagram says, though, because the man literally posts something every single day to the platform.) the older man will probably post something as soon as he says yes.

So he does.

“Okay, let’s make it for sure, then.”

“Yeah?” Yoongi asks as he leans in to press his forehead to Hoseok’s.

And the two don’t even have time to enjoy their moment because Seokjin is standing behind them with cake in his hands.

“Oh, shit!” He screams as he wiggles in his spot. “Yoongi and Hoseok are boyfriends now!”

(“They’ve been boyfriends forever now, they just refused to put a title on it!” Jimin yells back with a roll of his eyes before he returns his attention to how cute Jungkook looks simply existing in front of him.)

“Dude, you alone are the damn reason we get so many noise complaints.” Yoongi huffs as he makes a face of exasperation.

His words earn a howl of laughter from Namjoon, despite Seokjin’s whines of protest. Seokjin huffs and turns on his heel, taking the cake back to the kitchen and practically throwing it on the counter.

“You know what? I hate both of you, I’m going to eat this entire cake by myself.” He pretends to cry as he cuts a piece of cake for himself.

“It wouldn’t be the first time he’s done that.” Yoongi says, mostly to Hoseok, with a grin.

Namjoon is in the kitchen, arms around Seokjin’s waist, with apologies spilling from his lips almost instantly and Hoseok looks over his shoulder at them for a moment before focusing his attention right back on Yoongi.

“Well, nothing really feels different.” He laughs, as though he was really expecting something to change between them once they decided to start a real relationship.

Before Yoongi can say anything else his parents are letting themselves into the apartment and a brown poodle is running straight for the couch.

“My baby!” The older man coos, pulling the dog into his lap and pressing kisses all over it’s face. Hoseok wants to laugh because he’s sure Yoongi’s voice went about three pitches higher and the neutral expression that usually sits on his face is replaced with the biggest smile Hoseok has ever seen. Instead he waits patiently for Yoongi to calm down, though to be honest he quite likes how excited the recent graduate seems, before he reaches out and pats Holly’s head.

“Hoseok, this is the only member of my family that you need to worry about liking you.” Yoongi jokes, but Hoseok doesn’t miss the scowl Yoongi’s mother wears when he says it.

Thankfully Holly takes to him almost instantly and Yoongi gets up from his spot to let the two of them bond. Yoongi makes his way to his parents and waves for them to follow him towards the kitchen so that they can have a bit of Seokjin’s homemade treats. Hoseok knows that in his own weird way, that’s Yoongi waving a white flag and being nice to the two of them. The younger man sighs because even though Yoongi’s parents had been a little too blunt and intimidating earlier, he just doesn’t understand how the other holds so much anger towards them. He doesn’t dwell on the thought, though, because he has plenty of time to learn about the dynamic of their relationship, for now he wants to enjoy his first few moments as Yoongi’s boyfriend.

Later that night, when everyone is gone and it’s just Yoongi, Hoseok, and Holly laying in Yoongi’s bed, Hoseok finds himself becoming frustrated with the fact that Yoongi has been on his phone for just about twenty minutes. Every time he tries to glance over to see what the elder is doing, Yoongi turns his phone towards himself. He’s just about ready to throw a fit because, damnit, it’s their first night as a couple and he wants to have sex. He opens his mouth to complain, but as soon as he does he feels a vibration from the side of his head. He glances over at Yoongi, who’s smirking smugly at him, before reaching out to the side and grabbing his phone.

MYG_AGUSTD93 tagged you in a photo .

He rolls his eyes before tapping the notification. When Yoongi’s instagram page loads and takes him to a split photo of the two of them at the brunette's graduation and Hoseok and Holly sitting on the couch, Hoseok’s face lights up.

He’s got me feelin some type of way. #officially #lookatthatface #damn #heythankstotheguywhostabbedme @dancehoseokdance94

Hoseok double taps the photo before turning to Yoongi and leaning over to kiss him on the corner of the mouth.

“Is that what you’ve spent the last twenty minutes doing?” He pouts and the elder shrugs.

“Well, yeah, the caption had to be perfect.”

And Hoseok can only laugh because the goofy caption is so typically Yoongi. It’s sweet in a way that’s unique to him only and it makes Hoseok’s heart soar at how easily his boyfriend is willing to show him off to his online following. They sit in silence for a few moments until Hoseok pulls Yoongi over to him. He’s about to show Yoongi how much he likes the post when the elder frowns and pulls back.

“What? What are you doing?” Hoseok whines and reaches out for him again.

Yoongi points to Hoseok’s phone and raises an eyebrow.

“It’s your turn.”

“What?” Hoseok glances back and forth between his phone and Yoongi before it clicks in his head and he lets out a chuckle. “Seriously?”

“Yeah, come on. Boyfriend .” Yoongi gives him the cheekiest smile he’s ever seen and all Hoseok can do is smile back.

“Fine, fine. Whatever you say. Boyfriend .”

Hoseok pretends to be annoyed as he huffs and puffs while making the post. When he finishes it, he tags Yoongi and tries not to roll his eyes at how eager his boyfriend is to see the it.

It’s a photo that Hoseok’s sister took while they were staying in Gwangju, the two of them are asleep and cuddled up together on the couch at his parents’ house with Hoseok’s head resting against Yoongi’s. Hoseok’s sister sent it to him when he got back to Seoul and if he’s being honest, he doesn’t think he’s ever liked a picture more than this one.

Started from the bottom, now we’re here ;) #igotaboy #acoolone #stuckwmenow @MYG_AGUSTD93

There was no romance between Hoseok and Yoongi. They had an arrangement and it worked. That was, until it didn’t anymore. But that’s okay, Hoseok thinks, because he likes this much better.

Chapter Text

Yoongi thinks that he may or may not be whipped now that he and Hoseok have made their relationship official.

Yoongi doesn’t like parties. Despises them, actually, because that means there are too many people who are typically too drunk to behave like normal human adults and Yoongi cannot deal with that. This is the third party this week that he’s been dragged to by Hoseok and his insufferable roommates (Jungkook is an honorary roommate in Yoongi’s eyes because he’s never been to the apartment and not seen the boy there.). At first he thought he’d liked Jimin and Jungkook, but clearly was mistaken in his judgement of the two because when Hoseok joins forces with them they drink enough to kill a small cow. The brunette watches in half-horror half-awe as the three of them gulp down yet another round of shots and when Hoseok kisses him he can taste the tequila on his tongue.

“Take a shot with me!” The younger man whines as he wraps his arms around his boyfriend’s neck. (The both of them still giggle at the word “boyfriend”, it just rolls right off of his tongue.)

“Someone has to drive the three of you home.” Yoongi huffs as he scrunches his nose and tilts his head away from the other. Hoseok doesn’t like that, not one bit, so he places a hand on the back of Yoongi’s head and pulls him in so that their foreheads are touching.

“You’re no fun.” He whispers softly, lips hovering just over his lover’s, which earns a laugh in return. “It’s not funny! I wanted to play with you!”

“We can ‘play’ when we get home, but while we’re here I need to make sure that you and your friends don’t do anything stupid.”

There’s a loud crash before the two of them hear Jimin cackling and a whimper from Jungkook.

“Too late.” Hoseok says as he pulls away from the other just in time to see Jimin attempting to pick Jungkook up from where he’d fallen into the food table.

Hoseok rushes over to help the two of them, unable to contain his laughter at his roommate’s boyfriend’s misery, and Yoongi simply watches from afar with the hint of a smile on his face.

Okay, so maybe Yoongi hates parties, but they’re a little more bearable with Hoseok around.

Hoseok is easy and Yoongi likes that. He’s easier to date than Kibum was because he never outright demands anything from Yoongi, he’s much more low-maintenance and easy going. Hoseok would rather spend the night hanging out with friends at a house-party or staying in and watching poorly produced horror films over going out to a ridiculously overpriced restaurant just because it has four dollar signs on yelp. Yoongi appreciates the simplicity of their relationship, a lot, because this time around Yoongi doesn’t feel like a complete failure as a boyfriend. He’s not on the receiving end of death glares or twitching eyes because he’d chosen the wrong color of sneakers or the wrong size of a bag. Instead Hoseok squeezes him until he can’t breathe and sings out-of-tune songs about how much he loves Yoongi.

This, however, makes things just a little bit more difficult for Yoongi because now that he isn’t expected to deliver the world on a silver platter to his lover, he really wants to. He wants to give Hoseok anything and everything he can because the younger man deserves it. Something about Hoseok makes Yoongi want to bend over all the way backwards just so that he can get a glimpse of a smile. But the problem is that Hoseok doesn’t want anything. At all.

“I don’t need you to get me nice things, Yoongi.” The other laughs one night before bed. “I just want to spend time with you before the semester starts and you go off to work at your fancy-pants job.”

“My job is not fancy at all. I sit in a small dark room and make music all day. I’m literally in sweatpants and a hoodie 90% of the time.”

“Yeah, but you’re working and hanging out with all sorts of famous people. Fancy.”

“Famous people are overrated. I’d rather hang out with you, instead.”

Hoseok rolls his eyes at that and shakes his head.

“Exactly and I’d rather be hanging out with you, so don’t worry about buying me nice things, just worry about spending time with me.”

Yoongi still goes out and buys him an expensive pair of headphones the next day.

Yoongi doesn’t like it when Hoseok isn’t happy. He’s not used to it and it makes him feel like something is wrong with the world. Like he needs to drop everything and make Hoseok smile in order for things to be normal again. So when he finds Hoseok sulking as he scrolls through something on Yoongi’s laptop, he immediately hops into bed and pulls the other in for a kiss.

“What’s wrong?” He asks, getting straight to the point.

Hoseok sighs and glances at Yoongi’s computer, pointing to it with a frown. The elder of the two furrows his eyebrows before pulling the laptop into his lap, eyes widening when they land on old photos and videos that he’d forgotten were even saved to his hard drive. Once he see’s the folder name ‘Soup Kitchen’, though, he remembers exactly what was hidden in it. He’d figured that if he’d named the folder something boring that no one would be tempted to look in it. Except when he and Hoseok started dating he completely forgot about the folder and didn’t think to delete it.

“How much of this did you see?” He asks and Hoseok shrugs.

“All of it? It was like a trainwreck, once I started I couldn’t stop looking.”

Yoongi feels his heart stop. The folder was a compilation of all of his and Kibum’s poor attempts of homemade porn ranging from when they started dating in highschool to after their breakup. And Yoongi knows that Hoseok isn’t stupid, he can tell by Yoongi’s hair color that there are photos in there that were taken when the two of them were already seeing each other.

“I’m sorry, I completely forgot about this folder. I haven’t looked at these photos in at least a year, I swear.”

Hoseok hums at that and Yoongi can see that he’s trying to decide whether or not he believes him.

“Who’s better?” The younger man asks after a few moments of silence.

“Who’s better in bed? Me or him?”

“You, obviously.”

“Don’t lie to me just because you’re my boyfriend. Tell me for real. Who’s better?”

“You are! I swear. Kibum was a total pillow princess and he never liked to switch it up. The only exciting thing about our sex was that he dressed up for me and that he liked to fuck in public. His outfits and our location were the only things that changed, other than that our sex was the same. Every. Single. Time.”

Hoseok makes a face at his boyfriend’s words.

“I know, it was pretty boring.”

“Couldn’t have been that bad if you slept with him for so long.” Hoseok jokes with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Yoongi grins at that because he can tell he’s already been forgiven. “Why don’t we start our own soup kitchen folder?”

“Really?” Yoongi’s jaw drops at the suggestion.

“Yeah, really. Besides, my dick is way prettier than his.”

The older man laughs at that as Hoseok straddles his lap.

“Yeah, it is.”

And as whipped as Yoongi is for Hoseok. Hoseok is just as bad.

Hoseok likes to watch Yoongi perform. It’s exciting because the older man becomes a completely different person when he’s on stage. Agust D captivates the audience effortlessly and rasps out the wittiest things Hoseok has ever heard at a speed he can barely wrap his head around. While Yoongi raps on stage, Hoseok dances in the crowd. He lets his body move to the music and feel the words sink into him.

“That’s my boyfriend!” He tells a random stranger standing in the crowd, pride evident in his face. The man probably doesn’t really believe him, but it doesn’t matter.

Hoseok raps along to every word, shakes his ass when the beat permits, and screams at the top of his lungs when Yoongi’s set is over.

And when the brunette is hopping offstage, still high from performing, he pulls Hoseok close to him and kisses him hard.

Yoongi, on the inside, is a hopeless romantic. Hoseok knows this even if the other man denies it until he’s blue in the face. He loves small gestures like little notes in his bag or random photos sent throughout the day. Even when they were nothing more than friends with benefits, Hoseok would send photos of himself because he knew it made the other happy (and horny, but that’s besides the point). Sometimes his photos are funny, sometimes they’re cute, and sometimes they’re sexy. Either way, Yoongi is just glad to know Hoseok is thinking about him.

So when Yoongi is holed up in the studio all day, Hoseok decides to try and steal his attention away from work.

Jung Hoseok : All these glasses and you still can’t see me.

Jung Hoseok : All these chairs and you still couldn’t stand me.

Jung Hoseok : All these jackets and you’re still cold to me.

Jung Hoseok : All these games, but you still played me.

Yoongi : Oh my god. Chill out, I’ve literally been gone for three hours and I’m coming straight home back to you.

Jung Hoseok : But I miss you.

Jung Hoseok : Look at us, Holly and I are both sad without you.

Yoongi : You guys are cute.

Jung Hoseok : [photo sent]

Jung Hoseok : You know with you being gone all the time, Holly loves me more.

Yoongi : ...I’m done with you.

Jung Hoseok : Just kidding! Love you :) By the way, I made you kimbap and put it in your bag when you weren’t looking. Make sure to eat up!

Yoongi : You made me kimbap or Seokjin made it for Namjoon and you just took it before he could give it to him?

Jung Hoseok : Ugh. I am actually offended. See if I ever do anything nice for you again.

Yoongi : ….

Jung Hoseok : Okay, so I didn’t make it, but it’s the thought that counts. I went through a lot of trouble to steal it for you.

Yoongi : Of course.

Yoongi : Love you.

Jung Hoseok :  Love you, too!

Later on when Hoseok scrolls through his instagram timeline, he notices that Yoongi had uploaded the photo Hoseok sent him earlier of himself and Holly with the caption: The best part of my day.

He double taps it with a smile on his face.

So maybe Yoongi and Hoseok are just completely whipped for each other, but they wouldn't have it any other way.
