Just as the elevator door was about to close, a hand pushes its way through to make it open again.
Jeongguk's eyes widen. "Taehyung?"
"Good morning, Jeonggukie!" Taehyung grins and pants out of breath.
"Morning," Jeongguk mumbles and presses the button to their floor. "You're late. You're usually fifteen minutes early. It's—" Jeongguk brings up the left sleeve of his dress shirt to look at his watch. "—11:24,"
"I know," Taehyung pouts. "But Guk! There was another dog outside of that coffee shop I walk by! I just had to stop and pet him before heading to work,"
"You despise arriving a few minutes before you're supposed to clock in though," Jeongguk frowns.
"Well yeah but Guk he was a beagle! He was wearing a hat! Ah the cutest little thing," Taehyung happily sighs.
Jeongguk rolls his eyes before a fond smile takes over his face.
Suddenly the elevator shakes and slowly comes to a halt.
"What just happened?"
"I t-think the elevator, uh, just stopped working," Jeongguk whispers.
"What?! How?! We have—" Taehyung takes his phone out of his pocket. "—four minutes 'til we have to clock in!"
"I know but we're stuck, Tae. The elevator is broken and there's nothing we can do," Jeongguk was panicking but on the outside he had to pretend he was strong. He was with Taehyung after all.
"Oh Jeonggukie what do we do?!"
"Tae calm down. We just have to—oh," Jeongguk stumbles back a bit, startled, because all of a sudden Taehyung is in his arms, head on his chest, clinging onto him for dear life. Oh my goodness Tae is in my arms I am going to die and not from being stuck in this stupid elevator.
"T-tae it's alright," Jeongguk wraps his arms around Tae's waist and draws circles along his back. "Someone will get us soon,"
Taehyung looks up at Jeongguk from where his head was rested on Jeongguk's chest—eyes flooding with worry.
"A-are you sure?" Taehyung's voice comes out in a soft whisper but with Jeongguk being this close to him he hears every word.
"Of course, Tae," Jeongguk smiles, wraps his arms around Tae's waist even tighter, and rests his cheek on his forehead.
"But Guk! It's been minutes and you know how I hate being late and hate getting stuck in elevators even more!" Taehyung stomps his foot to try and be angry but really Jeongguk just finds it so adorable.
"Shhh," Jeongguk coos, leaning his head back to look at Taehyung again. "I won't let anything happen to you," Jeongguk brings a hand up to caress Taehyung's left cheek.
"Wait here," Jeongguk briefly pulls Taehyung away to walk to the elevator buttons and presses emergency.
"Hello?" Jeongguk asks. "Jeon Jeongguk and Kim Taehyung here. The elevator has stopped working,"
Two seconds later and a reply comes. "Jeongguk, got it. We'll get people to arrive right away. What floor are you guys stopped on?"
"The fourth floor, Sir,"
"People will be there shortly,"
Jeongguk hears Taehyung sigh in relief. "Thank you, Sir,"
Jeongguk turns around and opens his arms for invitation. Taehyung runs to him in three short steps and he's in Jeongguk's arms again.
"See, Tae? They're going to get us soon; don't worry,"
"Thank you, Jeonggukie, but what if it takes them ten minutes? Or twenty? Or even an hour?! We're going to die, Gukkie!" Taehyung dramatically yelps and Jeongguk can't help but grin.
"Tae look at me," Taehyung brings his head up from Jeongguk's chest and looks up at him with worry still flooding his eyes.
"What did I say earlier?" Jeongguk whispers, caressing both of Taehyung's cheeks this time. "I'm not going to let anything happen to you,"
Jeongguk gently brushes Taehyung's bangs away and places a warm kiss on his forehead before looking back down at him with a soft, shy smile.
Taehyung's face reddens and his heart starts to beat at an alarming speed because oh gosh Jeonggukie is looking at me with such soft eyes and caressing my cheeks and he kissed my forehead and !!! I'm going to die from this and not the stupid elevator.
"Besides, if we run short on air we can always kiss and share our breaths," Jeongguk wiggles his eyebrows with a toothy grin.
Taehyung slaps his chest. "Guk!"
Jeongguk laughs. "I was just kidding, Tae. Besides, that'll probably make us lose our breaths even more. Let's sit down,"
Fifteen minutes later and Taehyung and Jeongguk are sitting in the corner with Jeongguk's back against the wall and Taehyung on his lap with his legs stretched out.
"Our help still hasn't arrived,"
"They'll be here soon, Tae; don't worry,"
"But but it's been so long! I'm telling you we're going to die, Jeongguk! Oh gosh we're going to die," Taehyung buries his face in Jeongguk's chest and continues to repeat the words.
Jeongguk, not wanting his cute Tae to worry any longer, decides to say something.
Taehyung tilts his chin up to look at Jeongguk through his eyelashes. "Y-yes, Guk?"
"I-I have something to tell you," Jeongguk starts to fiddle with the hem of Taehyung's dress shirt. Oh gosh I'm finally going to do it. Taehyung's going to jump off of my lap and will start to avoid me and won't want me in his life ever again. I have to do this though. In case we do die. Well we won't but that's besides the point.
Jeongguk cradles Taehyung's face with both of his hands and brings his head up so that they're looking at each other face-to-face.
Taehyung blushes when Jeongguk suddenly grabs his hands and starts to caress them with his thumbs. Taehyung is still looking at him but Jeongguk suddenly has his head down.
Jeongguk looks up startled. "Huh?"
"I-I have something to tell you too," Taehyung smiles sheepishly. "But since you brought it up before me you can go first,"
"O-oh. Y-yeah, okay. Yeah," Jeongguk stutters and looks down again. "Tae I just want to say this right now in case we do die. Which we won't but whatever. I," Taehyung sees Jeongguk gulp.
"I've, uhm, liked you for a while now," Jeongguk is still caressing Taehyung's hands with his thumbs. "Ever since you first walked into the office actually," Jeongguk smiles; remembering Taehyung barging in with his hair a mess and dress shirt not tucked into his pants because it was the first day dang it and he had gotten distracted by a puppy along the way and was running late. Did I mention it was his first day?
Taehyung's eyes widen before he's sporting a soft smile.
Jeongguk brings his head up now and looks into Taehyung's eyes—searching for any sign of discomfort or disgust. He sees nothing but adoration. Jeongguk can't help but smile too.
"You don't have to like me back... I mean if you don't it's okay; I don't mind being your best friend. If that's still cool with you, I mean," Jeongguk's cheeks flush.
"It'd probably be weird, right? I mean if you don't like me back romantically why would you still want to be my best friend, right? It'd just be awkward. Right? Like who stays best friends with someone who's practically in lov-"
Taehyung goes all out and shuts Jeongguk up with a soft, tender kiss. Jeongguk's eyes widen in surprise because Taehyung is kissing me. Me. What. But then he closes his eyes and kisses back with as much love as Taehyung is putting.
Jeongguk's lips feel so, so soft and right and gosh what did Taehyung do in his past life to deserve someone as amazing as Jeongguk honestly?
Taehyung pulls away after a while, panting for air. His eyes flutter open to come face-to-face with an adorable, dazed Jeongguk.
"Hello there," Taehyung laughs breathily. "That's what I wanted to tell you too, Gukkie," Taehyung cradles Jeongguk's face with both of his hands and stares right into his eyes.
"I like you too," Jeongguk smiles shyly at this. "Ever since I first walked into the office actually," Taehyung laughs; remembering how he was almost late on his first dang day because he had gotten distracted by another puppy again. When he barged into the office, everyone's stares fixated on him and his messy hair and disheveled dress shirt, the most breath-taking man he's ever seen on this planet had caught his eye. He was wearing a simple black dress shirt tucked into his black trousers and even though his outfit was simple and all black damn was he attractive.
( "Jeon Jeongguk," Jeongguk had held out his hand and introduced himself to this tall, handsome guy with the messy hair, staring at him in awe (and probably drooling) because even with his messy appearance wow was he gorgeous.
"Kim Taehyung!" Taehyung brought his hand up to shake Jeongguk's and grinned and wow this Jeongguk guy is literally the most perfect human being Taehyung has ever encountered.
They ended up being cubicle mates and had found out they had a lot of the same interests such as their love for Big Bang, anime, drawing, and singing.
They ended up hanging out outside of work and even spending time at each other's apartments, becoming best friends, and things went smooth sailing from then on out. )
Jeongguk is still staring at Taehyung and Taehyung is shaking with nerves because My Jeonggukie likes me back and why isn't he saying anything??
Taehyung's frantic thoughts are interrupted when he feels something soft and wet against his lips. After his brain catches up, he realizes that Jeongguk is kissing him and kisses him back with more fervor.
After a while longer, they both pull away, panting for air and sporting the biggest smiles.
Jeongguk lifts Taehyung off of him so that they can both stand up and Jeongguk goofily goes down on one knee, his hands holding one of Taehyung's.
"Kim Taehyung, will you do me the honor of holding the title for both my best friend and boyfriend?"
Taehyung's eyes are watery and he smiles so wide it hurts but he doesn't care because he's so, so happy.
"Jeon Jeongguk, I do,"
Jeongguk quickly stands up to pull Taehyung into a bone-crushing hug and proceeds to pepper tender kisses all over his face and now they're both laughing and feeling content.
A while after, the elevator shakes a bit and starts moving again.
Jeongguk and Taehyung both pull away to look at each other (Jeongguk's arms still around Taehyung's waist and Taehyung's arms still around Jeongguk's neck) and laugh again because we got stuck in an elevator and forgot but got something good out of it.
Jeongguk pecks Taehyung on the lips before the elevator comes to a halt on their floor. Before the doors open Jeongguk pecks him on the lips again, once, twice, three times because he is so in love with Taehyung and he is now his.
Taehyung's smiling again (well his smile never faded away—neither did Jeongguk's) and pecks Jeongguk on the lips too before the doors finally slide open. They walk into the office hand-in-hand, faces tinted red, sixty-two minutes late because of the elevator incident and even though it wasn't their fault they're too happy to care about their perfect attendance record going down the drain because Taehyung is more important to Jeongguk and Jeongguk is more important to Taehyung.
They continue sparing glances at each other through their cubicles (like they've always been doing since day one) throughout the day but now they feel more free and more alive and secretly give each other pecks. Of course things get a little heated and the boss, Namjoon, catches them and tells them to stop sucking face and get back to work before I cut your salaries.
Jeongguk and Taehyung just spare a glance at each other though, burst into laughter because Namjoon hyung is just old and lonely and grumpy, and get back to work. They think about each other even more (if it's even possible) throughout the day and surprisingly they finish their work quickly—leaving work an hour early.
They head back to Jeongguk's apartment because spend the night, sweets? Of course, Taehyung obliges to his request and once they arrive they just brush their teeth and quickly head to bed so they can cuddle each other to sleep already like they've been wanting to ever since the day they first met.
(It takes them a while to fall asleep though.)
(Jeongguk has Taehyung draped over him, his head buried in his chest, and keeps kissing the crown of Taehyung's head.)
(Taehyung lifts his head a bit so that his chin can rest on Jeongguk's chest and kisses him on the lips.)
(Needless to say, they keep stealing kisses from one another until they're finally too tired and drift into dreamland.)
(They dream about each other.)
(Namjoon too—cockblocking them even in their dreams.)
(Which may now be considered a nightmare.)
