Slow and calm, as she slept, peaceful in a way she never quite managed while awake.

Fast and eager, as they made love, joyfully succumbing to the thrill of passion and climax.

Steady and gentle, as they curled up in a chair together, taking advantage of a rare day off.

“Tachycardia,” Mac murmured one day, her head resting comfortably on Rosie’s chest.

“Hm?” Rosie set aside her book.

“Excessively rapid heartbeat.”

Rosie smiled. “That’s the effect you have on me, Doctor.”

“And you on me.”
