“Fraser, why is Dief hiding under the bed?”
Exhausted after a particularly long day, Ray had already been drifting off, but thanks to the frantic scuffling noises from underneath the mattress (and the frankly pathetic whimper), he was now wide awake.
Fraser mumbled something into his pillow that Ray couldn’t make out.
Fraser raised his head. “I said, we appear to have a feline visitor.”
Ray snorted. “Dief is afraid of the neighbor’s cat?”
“So it would seem.”
Ray was about to make a disparaging comment but thought better of it. After all, she did have awfully ferocious claws.
