Chapter 1: Backstory
Chapter Text
~~Third Person POV~~
Growing up Alexandra and Demetri were best friends, doing everything together. Not a day went by where they didn't spend time together. No one could get between them, they always had each other's back. They never felt like they were complete without the other. Demetri's parents were hunters/trackers and fighters, not the best but they knew enough to stay alive. And Alexandra's parents expected too much from her; she wanted to get away. Outside of their parents and a few local family members the pair only had each other, they were essentially outcasts in their own home. As the years went on the two got closer, they never put a label to it but everyone knew what it was and not everyone was happy about it. Including the parents of Alexandra. So the two, at the age of nineteen, ran away from home. Alexandra had left her parents, her two younger sisters and whatever friends she had outside of Demetri- which weren't many.
That's when they meet a vampire named Amun, whose skin was cold as eyes and pale, his eyes red like blood. The young adults had always heard the stories of these "things'', as people called them, but Amun didn't seem all that bad once the two got to know him, aside from the creepy red eyes of course. It took so long for Amun to gain the young adults' trust, in order to get the help he needed, of course never telling the two how his plans would finish. He didn't want the two to hate him until after the fact. The three did training in survival, hunting and tracking, day and night. Until Amun thought they were good enough.
One night Alexandra awakens to the sound of Demetri screaming in pain, when she opens her eyes she sees Amun feeding on him, she got scared and ran thinking her best friend was dead. At a loss she hid for a few days, it took all her strength not to completely fall apart, at this point she had lost everything she ever knew- her parents, her family, her childhood best friend; and even her new friend that she thought she could trust because Demetri trusted him.
One week after watching her best friend die, Alexandra was still on her own, hunting for food and building shelters. The food was bad, the living was worse. But what hurt her the worst was that her best friend was killed by a vampire, right in front of her. She missed him more than anything, she couldn't handle the thought of facing her own parents after being gone this long, let alone Demetri's. How could she tell them their son was killed by something the people haven't even given a name yet? She only learned the term "Vampire" from Amun.
One night she woke up to what sounded like an animal outside her shelter. When she stepped out to see what it was she realized that it wasn't an animal she could kill for tomorrow's meal she saw her best friend, her best friend that she thought she had watched die just seven days before, her heart began to race as she saw him across the fire. "Demetri? Is that you? Is it really you?" She asked quietly with hope in her heart, trying to push past the fact that she knew deep down he was actually dead.
"Kind of. I guess it's still me." He says, looking at himself then at her with a smile but he looked more in pain then anything, but in reality he was completely relieved to see Alexandra again; even if that meant fighting every fiber of his being that was currently telling him to kill her before she can even blink.
"I thought he killed you." She cried. Alexandra knew little of vampires, only what Amun had told her when the three of them met. But he would be gone every few days to hunt. In the little bit of light that was given off by the moon, stars and the small fire Alexandra had built to make her food she could see Demetri. And he didn't look the same. "I thought he killed you." She repeated, sighing.
"No," Demetri says. "I wish he had. Becoming what he is took days and hurt like hell, but I don't feel much of anything physically anymore." Demetri looks at the fire in slight fear as he talks, like if he even looked at it for too long he would burst into flames himself.
"Demetri? What's the matter?" Alexandra asks, knowing every little detail of how her friend acts when something isn't right, vampire or not she knows him better then anyone ever could or ever will.
"I'm not the same. I could hurt you. And that's the last thing I want. It's not safe for you. I'm not safe for you." He says, biting the inside of his bottom lip as he fights the battle within himself, the last thing he ever wants to do is hurt her; but honestly he doesn't know how long he can hold himself back.
She held her hand out to him, but it took all his strength not to pull her to the ground and drain her of her blood, it was hard to stay away from her. Not only for the blood, but for the feelings he had for her that he didn't know if she shared for him. He didn't take her hand in fear that the instincts of a blood hungry vampire would take over. "Demetri, I trust you. I know you'd never hurt me. I may be slightly scared of Amun, but I'm not scared of you. I will never be scared of you, you are my best friend." She sighs, "You're more than my best friend." She adds under her breath.
She saw the look in his eyes, he was hungry but once she looked past his red eyes turning black she saw that he loved her, more than a friend, more than a sister. Which is what she thought their relationship was like, brother and sister. Demetri could never explain his feelings to her or even to himself but the words he just heard her whisper under her breath told him that she felt the same, a lot of- unable to explain but you're more than a friend, a lot of I love you but I don't know how to say it. She knew she loved him. He knew he loved her. He heard her say she loved him, but she didn't know. And she can read that he loves her, but he doesn't know. Stuck in a loop of both knowing and not knowing all at the same time, waiting on the other to say what they both already know.
She knew there was no going back for him, no going back to being human. If she wanted whatever relationship they had to keep going she had a choice to make, and just like him there was no going back. Alexandra took out the small knife from her side pocket, holding it in her hands. The two look at each other, having a conversation with just their eyes for a split second before she cuts her finger, letting the blood flow.
Demetri tried so hard but lost most of his self control and ran to her at a high speed not reached by any man. His arms wrapped around her, and his fangs went into her neck. It was sharp and it felt like a fire was burning in Alexandra's blood. After a few long painful minutes Demetri let her go. His mouth was covered in her blood. "I'm so sorry, Alexandra." He said running off, leaving her there to die.
Amun found her a few hours later that night and made sure the change happened. It took days but it happened. It felt like her blood was on fire as the venom moved through her system, everything seemed like it was moving too fast; yet not moving at all. She now understood what Demetri meant when he said he wished she had died, his last words to her played over and over in her mind; his voice the only constant thing going through her mind other than the pain. She focused on that until she couldn't focus anymore and passed out in pain. It was like her whole mind and body was just exploding with the worst pain imaginable, but once her heart stopped beating and she opened her eyes everything felt newer, cleaner, clearer. She could see every detail, hear every sound, smell everything within a larger area of land.
She was a bit confused and hungry, her throat burning making it abundantly clear that she needed to eat, her body and her heart knew what it needed so she just ran. She ran off to hunt for blood, for an animal. She had learned from Amun that most vampires survive off the blood of humans, but the idea of drinking human blood; taking a life didn't sit right with her. She couldn't imagine ever hurting someone. Alexandra had two things on her mind, drinking an animal or even two dry, and finding Demetri. She wanted him to know that she was alive... if that's what this is, she needed him to know.
When Alexandra finally found him she was just a few minutes too late, he was with Amun and the Volturi had stepped in, Alexandra didn't know much about them, all she did know was they were the law when it came to Vampires, they were dangerous and extremely powerful. There wasn't anything she could do, but she had each of their scents, including Demetri's, she'll be able to track them anywhere in the world when the time is right, until then she decided to go on hunting and save the fighting for another day, but not before whispering to herself, "I love you Demetri." And that was the last time she saw him.
After the Volturi stepped in, Alexandra was at a loss. She had lost her best friend. Even in the years before Amun came along Alexandra and Demetri were friends. Best friends. They always said nothing would come between them, but as Alexandra learned... that wasn't the case. Because of Chelsea's abilities to sense relationships, or connections, between people and rip the relationship apart if she wanted, Demetri was lost.
After Demetri was taken by the Volturi the two remaining vampires leave and quickly head to Egypt to try and stay off the Volturi's radar for as long as possible. Alexandra stayed with Amun and the Egyptian Coven for many years, she had nowhere else to turn but a day never went by where she didn't miss Demetri. The memories of him feeding on her human body played through her mind. And a tear fell down her cheek. She really loved him. But did he love her?
Amun would check on her all the time, "You okay? You haven't fed in weeks Alexandra. What's wrong?"
He didn't understand, after the connection was broken between him and Demetri everything was kind of a blur in his mind. He knew things happened but he had trouble remembering the little details, like the relationship that had grown between the two men. Alexandra never bothered to explain it to him in detail to fill in the gaps, as even saying His name out loud would have her crying. Even after all these years. All she ever said was, "I miss him" or "Part of me feels lost without him"
"He still cares for you. Chelsea only destroyed whatever relationship he and I had. Not the love that you share. Her abilities are limited." Amun says.
She looks at him, "If that was true why hasn't Demetri come back. It's been around 1,000 years."
"It's dangerous to leave the Volturi. They kill anyone that doesn't agree with them. And they take what they want, who they want." He replies sadly. "If he remembers you after all this time, he's protecting you. He could be scared that if he leaves they'll get to you. Or it could be so long that he doesn't remember anything but them. It's truly hard to say at this point." Amun explains.
As the years past more vampires came and went, she would hunt, but only animals. She didn't agree with feeding on humans. It seemed heartless. Plus animal blood was the first thing she had after she was turned because it was closer than any human. One morning Alexandra decided to look at the year: 1945. She could no longer stand to be around Amun, she still had trouble after so many years. She didn't even know why it took her this long to leave, but now she was; and she wasn’t going to look back. Was this love or was she just insane after all this time alone.
(A/N: I have four -4- different ends in mind for Alexandra and Demetri. I might change my mind part way through and pick a different one, but right now if you guys could pick a number- 1, 2, 3, 4 It would help me figure out where I want to take the story)

Chapter Text
~~Third Person POV~~
Alexander ran on her own for almost twelve years, over that time making her way across the world and getting to know other vampires. Most of the vampires she met however only fed on human blood, where she only fed on animal blood. Meeting different vampires comes with both good and bad outcomes, sometimes she has to fight her way out of a situation. While going around meeting people she also got several jobs and started saving money she could and spending just enough to travel to the states; from there she'd run and rest in the woods, not wanting to risk drawing attention to herself in fear.
Eventually, in 1957 she made it to Forks Washington- not looking for anything specific; when she heard something running at her. She quickly ducks, causing the thing to jump over her and land in front; Alexandra quickly realizes that it's a huge shape-shifting wolf and where there's one there's a pack. Alexandra jumps back and up into a tree, climbing to the top. She stays up there for a while, watching the wolves try to jump at her; as she watches she sees two other wolves in the distance, wanting to avoid conflict she jumps from tree to tree until the wolves stop running after her. After making sure it was clear she jumps down, landing in the dirt. As she stands to wipe the mud off her clothes she becomes surrounded by seven vampires; Carlisle, Edward, Emmett, Esme, Rosalie, Jasper, and Alice; the Cullans. Looking at them she raises her hands, "I don't want any trouble, I'm just passing through; until those dogs came at me." Alexandra tells them with a sigh, pointing back in the direction of the three wolves with her thumb, hands still in the air.
"Who are you?" Emmett asks her, taking a step closer his arms to his sides.
"My name is Alexandra. Nowadays I just go by Alex though." She answers him. Emmett crosses his arms, protective of his family as he takes another step, "Easy big guy, trust me when I say you won't win that fight." She chuckles.
"Back off Emmett." Alice tells him, "It's her." She adds, sharing a look with Jasper. Alexandra looks at the group confused, before Alice pushes past Emmett and hugs Alexandra, "I'm Alice, we're gonna be amazing friends." She says while in the hug.
Alexandra lets Alice hug her and slightly hugs back, after Alice pulls away from the hug; Alexandra looks at the group again in confusion, "Who are you guys?" She asks, leaning back against the tree behind her, crossing her arms.
Carlisle steps forward, "My name is Carlisle Cullen." He answers, "This is my wife Esme." He points to her, "This is Edward, Rosalie, Jasper-" He points to each of them, "You've already met Emmett and Alice." Carlisle points to the two of them. "We share this land with the Quileute Tribe, those wolves you met are Ephraim Black, Levi Uley, and Quil Ateara II. We have a treaty with them, Ephraim insisted on two main point to the treaty: we can not injure any humans; either by hunting them for food or by transforming them into vampires, as the Quileutes viewed this transformation as equal to murder, and vampires are never allowed to trespass on Quileute land." Carlisle explains.
"Oh, okay." Alexandra sighs, she turns to the wolves across the river, "I'm sorry sir! I didn't know, but now I do and I will respect the treaty... you have my word." She tells them. The first wolf that ran after her, Ephraim, nodded at her and turned to leave, "Thank you!" She calls out as they leave before turning back to the Cullens.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Alexandra." Esme smiles.
"Thank you. You too. I have been on my own for a few hundred years, I left my last Coven." Alexandra explains.
"The Egyptian Coven." Edward says.
"Yeah." Alexandra answers. "How did you know?" She asks, confused.
"I can read the thoughts of anyone in close proximity. Alice can see into the future, although what she sees is based on decisions being made and Jasper has the ability to both feel and manipulate the emotions of those around him." Edward tells her.
"That's a bit freaky." Alexandra chuckles. "I'm a pretty good tracker, I catch the essence of a person's mind and then follow it like a scent over any distance. I don't need to have physically met the person to be able to track them down. I can do it by coming across someone else who has met the target, I can pick up the essence through him or her. I'm one of the best Amun has ever seen... other than-" She couldn't even say his name, it's been so long.
"Demetri." Edward cuts her off, as he reads the thoughts in her head seeing everything that she has gone through in her life. Not only as a vampire but as well as when she was human. Alexandra nods slightly, rubbing her hands across her face.
"Demetri?" Carlisle questions, "He's the tracker for the Volturi, he's probably the words best. He's part of the reason the Volturi are in power today."
"He's alive?!" Alexandra asks in shock. "Oh my god." She sighs, sitting at the base of the tree, a wave of emotions flows through her, for years she didn't know what happened to him, dead or alive. Even though she expected the once that took him, took him for a reason, hearing the first solid answer she's had in years cracked the dam of her emotions. Jasper quickly realizes and in an effort to help her out, he sends her a wave of happy emotions and it repairs the crack in the dam, "Thank you." She whispers, looking up at him.
"You know him." Rosalie asks, getting the subject back on Demetri.
"I loved him." Alexandra whispers. "We were friends in our human lives, he changed me after Amun changed him. I watched as the Volturi took him from Aman and I. He was my family."
Rosalie walks up to her and hugs her, before walking back to Emmett, "You can join our family." Carlisle tells her with a smile.
"That would be great. Thank you." Alexandra replies.
"So tell us about yourself." Esme inquiries.
Alexandra sighs, slowly standing up, instantly feeling as though she could trust them with her life, "Well, as I said, Demetri changed me and Amun took care of me through the change and then he took me in." She explains. "Demetri and I have known each other since we were kids in our human lives, I doubt he remembers though, it's been so many years and so much has happened; not only in our world..." She says, referring to the world of vampires and other supernatural creatures, "...but the human world as well." She adds, sighing once more, "Plus who knows what Aro has done to Demetri to keep him in line, he always had a slight problem with authority when we were younger." She chuckles, trying to ignore the pain of the memories coming to the surface as she talks about what she lost. "My parents, and his, never really liked us. My parents expected too much of me, it got to the point where I needed to leave so Demetri and I ran away from home at the age of nineteen- I left two sisters behind that day." She runs a hand through her long hair, "Anyway, long story short, I've been lost for a long time."
Alexandra and Edward share a look, he knows exactly what she's dealing with as he has been alone for a while, of course not to the time extent that she has been but alone nonetheless. Even though she still felt alone, deep down she started becoming a bit happier knowing that the man she loved so dearly is still out there. Alexandra spends the next forty-six years with the Olympic Coven known as the Cullens, she officially changed her name to Alex Cullen to fit in with the day and age. The year is now 2003, Alex has been with the Cullens since that day in 1957, they moved around a bit but are finally back in Forks, Washington once again. Over the years with the family Alex has become very close with all of them, especially Rosalie and Jasper; she tended to avoid Edward to keep him out of her mind because she didn't want them to know that she never stopped thinking about him, even now. Carlisle and Esme had enrolled the six others into the local high school as their adoptive kids, the same thing they do at every new location.
~~Alex's POV~~
A new day at Forks High, as we head to the cafeteria doors I open them for Emmet and Rosalie, Alice and Jasper behind them and Edward behind them, I wait for Edward to walk in before stepping in the building myself. As we head in and to our table, I can already hear people talking about us, "Who are they?" I hear a voice ask from across the room.
"The Cullens." Another student answers the question, "Doctor and Mrs. Cullen's foster kids. They all moved down here from Alaska two years ago."
"They kind of keep to themselves." A third student says.
"Because they're all together. Like, together- together. The blonde girl, Rosalie, and the big dark-haired guy, Emmett.. they're a thing. I'm not even sure that's legal." The second student continues. I try not to smile.
"Jess, they're not actually related." I hear the third student defend as I sit down between Rosalie and Edward.
The second student shoots back, "But they live together. And the little dark haired girl, Alice, she's really weird..... she's with Jasper, the blonde who looks like he's in pain. I mean, Dr. Cullen's like this foster dad slash matchmaker." She chuckles.
"Maybe he'll adopt me." The third student jokes, causing the table to laugh.
"Who are the last two?" The first student asks, looking over her shoulder at Edward and I.
"That's Edward Cullen." The second student answers, and the girl sitting between him and Rosalie, with the long light brown hair is Alex." She explains before continuing, "Edward's totally gorgeous, obviously. But apparently, no one here is good enough for him. Like I care." She chuckles, trying to hide the fact she is secretly jealous, but is obviously failing, "And as for Alex, she keeps to herself the most- more than the others, she always just seems depressed; like she's missing something, I don't think I've heard her ever say a word. Anyway, don't waste your time." The student finishes.
Rosalie and I lock eyes for a second as we all hear what the students are talking about, what they say about me. It's fair to say that for the most part it's true, I don't necessarily talk to anyone but my family but neither does any of my family. Rosalie has always been easy to talk to when it comes to my emotions and getting advice on how to deal with day to day things given her backstory- which she never likes to talk about and I completely understand that. Rosalie lays a hand on my shoulder and smiles at me sympathetically, I can feel Jasper looking at me so I look across the table, "I'm fine man. Stop trying to read me when you're clearly struggling yourself." I mumble just as the bell rings and I head to class.
Over the next few days Rosalie and Jasper help me get through the difficult time. Some days are better than others and hearing the students talk about me triggered a bad few days, but I'm alright now. As for Edward he left town after almost having a slip up with a fellow student, leaving Jasper or Rosalie to drive us to school. To be honest, I couldn't get a lock on her either, it's like she blocked my enhanced ability to track, but I keep an eye on her anyway. Alice had shared a vision with us that the student, Bella, that Edward was having trouble being around and getting a reading on was going to be part of the family in some way. Now that he's back in town again he tries to talk to her during class, which I catch the tail end of as I walk past them in the hallway to leave school for the day. He quickly ends the conversation and catches up with me, "That was close." I comment, as we walk.
Edward rolls his eyes, "She doesn't know anything, it's fine." He sighs.
"Maybe for now." I tell him, as we walk out of the building and to the cars. Edward stares at Bella as she walks to her truck, I can't help but watch over my shoulder as I throw my stuff in his car; seeing he was giving me a ride home. Just then a van comes speeding through the parking lot, catching my attention. The van heads straight for Bella, "Edward, don't." I whisper, but it's too late. He speeds across the parking lot, stopping the van and saving her life. All the others and I can do is look at each other, Rosalie and Jasper clearly upset; not that I blame them, we'll probably have to move again. Alice doesn't say much.
I went with Rosalie and Edward to the hospital to talk to Carlisle about everything that happened at school, Rosalie chewing Edward out for the whole thing, "What was I supposed to do?" He questions, "Let her die?"
"This isn't just about you." Rosalie argues.
"This is about all of us." I snap. Then I catch Bella's scent from down the hall.
"I think we should take this in my office." Carlisle suggests, looking behind me at Bella, I turn around to see her.
"Can I talk to you for a minute?" Bella asks Edward.
As he walks towards her, Carlisle guides both Rosalie and I to his office. Once we get there I close the door and lean against it as Carlisle sits at his desk, Rosalie across from him in one of the empty chairs, "Carlisle, you know I have always respected and appreciated you for taking me in after I left Egypt but I have to disagree with you on this whole thing." I tell him.
"Alex is right Carlisle. Bella should have died in that crash. Why don't you let us tie off the loose ends." Rosalie suggests.
Carlisle sighs and shakes his head, "You know why." He says, sternly, implying the treaty that was made with the tribe before I joined and his love for humans. "Plus, Bella's father is the chief of police; there'd be more attention on us that way then if we just let her live." He adds.
I cross my arms and stare at Rosalie, "And what were you saying about us tying up loose ends? Do you think I WANT to hurt humans or something?" I ask her, a bit irritated that she's trying to push me into that.
"Sorry." She whispers.
A few days after Edward saved Bella from the crash, we had our science field trip. Jasper, Alice, Edward and I were the only ones going; Rosalie and Emmet are off doing whatever it is they do when they aren't home. The trip is boring and all science based so I try to just go with the flow like any high school student. I walk with Jasper and Alice through the whole thing because they are one of the last two people to ever pay attention to anything but each other and our family. At the end of the trip we find Bella and Edward by the buses and Alice goes over to them while I stay with Jasper, "This is just painful to watch." I whisper to him, getting a slight smile in response.
Alice turns to Bella, "Hi. Um, are you gonna be riding with us?" She asks.
"No. The bus is full." Edward answers for Bella, getting on the bus.
"Called it." I whisper to Jasper, getting another smile, before following Edward and Alice onto the bus.
The next day, Alice, Jasper, Emmet, Rosalie, Edward and I are at our normal table in the cafeteria. Edward losing his mind over everything with Bella, I smile a bit to myself slightly feeling better that I'm not the only one losing my mind over someone I probably shouldn't be. Before I tune in to the conversation at Bella's table, "Hey. La Push, baby. You in?" One of the guys asks her.
"Should I know what that means?" Bella questions.
"La Push beach, down the Quileute rez. We're all going tomorrow." Another guy answers.
I roll my eyes, going back to the conversation at hand, "Edward, stop stressing out. It's making us all look creepy as hell." I joke. "Her and her friends are going to La Push beach tomorrow anyway. It's not like we can follow." I chuckle.
"Yeah, maybe we should just let this go." Emmet adds.
"That's not what I'm saying Emmet." I snark, smacking his arm. "We all know she'll figure it out eventually." I add, looking at Alice, "It's just a matter of time."

Edward and I are driving around in his car, keeping an eye on Bella. "You do realize how insanely creepy this actually is, right Edward?" I ask him. He doesn't say anything. "Or not." I sigh.
We quickly realize that we aren't the only ones following and Edward speeds up to her, making the car screech. The two of us step out, "Get in the car." Edward tells Bella as we both get out.
I carefully help Bella get in the front seat before meeting Edward in front of the car, "That was a very dangerous maneuver." One of the guys says.
Edward and I glare at them, making it clear we're the last people they want to mess with, before Edward gets in the car, "You boys cause any more trouble and I'll be seeing you again." I tell them before getting in the back seat of the car and we drive off.
Down the road a bit, I can tell Edward is struggling, "I should go back there and rip those guys' heads off." He tells us.
"Um... No, you shouldn't." Bella tries.
"She's right Edward. Don't do it." I squeeze his shoulder.
"You don't know the vile, repulsive things they were thinking." Edward says, trying to keep himself together.
"And you do?" Bella questions.
"It's not that hard to figure out." I answer, trying to cover for us.
"Can we talk about something else?" Edward asks. "Distract me so I won't turn around."
"You should put your seatbelt on." Bella tries.
"You should put your seatbelt on." Edward laughs.
"You should both put your seatbelts on." I snap. "Edward, you know why you can't go back there. I got them in case they cause trouble again." I tell him, implying my ability to track.

Edwards drives down the road and passes the police station, Bella notices her dad's car, "My dad's still here. Can you pull in?" Bella asks.
Edward pulls into the parking lot, "That's our father's car on the end." He points out.
"What's he doing here?" I ask, as he parks the car.
We get out of the car and Carlisle walks out of the police station, "Carlisle, what's going on?" Edward asks.
Carlisle sighs, "Waylon Forge was found in a boat near his place. I just examined the body." He explains.
"He died? How?" Bella asks.
"Animal attack." Carlisle answers, glancing at Edward and I.
"Was it the same one that got that security guard at the Mason?" Bella asks Carlisle, I can feel her eyes on me though.
Carlisle sighs, "Most likely." He says, glancing at Edward and I again. I immediately have to step away and collect myself, knowing that whoever this is, is getting closer to our territory. Carlisle follows, "Are you alright Alex?" He asks, standing behind me.
I take a breath turning around to face him, "I haven't had to fight our own kind since I left Egypt... before I found you guys." I tell him.
"Let's hope it doesn't come to that." Carlisle says sympathetically, resting a hand on my shoulder.
"You know I'll fight for this family if I have to." I tell him.
"I know." He responds, removing his hand and walking away.

The next morning I rode to school with Rosalie, Alice, Jasper and Emmet. "Am I the only one that thinks this is a bad idea?" Rosalie asks.
"More of a bad idea than me being in love with a member of the Volturi guard?" I question with a chuckle, "Plus, I'd rather help Edward than having him hate all of us until the end of time." I sigh.

~~Third Person POV~~
Bella and Edward are hanging out at the edge of the woods, "So, does a person have to be dying...to become like you?" She asks.
"No, that's...that's just Carlisle. He'd never do this to someone who had another choice." Edward answers.
"So how long have you been like this?" She asks him.
"Since nineteen eighteen. That's when Carlisle found me...dying of Spanish influenza." He explains.
"What's it like?" Bella asks.
"The venom was excruciating. But what Carlisle did was much harder. Not many of us have the restraint to do that." He tells her.
"But didn't he just have to...bite?" She asks.
Edward sighs, "Not exactly, when we...taste...human blood...a sort of frenzy begins...and it's almost impossible to stop."
"But Carlisle did." Bella realizes.
"First with me, then with his wife, Esme." He says.
"So, is Carlisle...the real reason you don't...kill people?" She asks.
"No, he's not the only reason. Alex is part of it too, she's been around a lot longer than all of us. That and I don't...want...to be a monster. Our family...we think of ourselves as vegetarians, we only survive on the blood of animals, but it's...it's like a human only living on tofu. It keeps you strong but it'll never fully satisfy. Wouldn't be like drinking your blood, for instance." He explains.
"Was it other vampires that killed Waylon?" Bella asks, changing the subject a bit.
"Yeah. There are others out there." He sighs, "We run into them from time to time."
"Can the rest of your family...read people's minds like you can?" She asks.
"No...no, that's just me, but Alice can...Alice can see the future." He says, "And Alex, she's an amazing tracker. Her ability is loosely related to what I do, she works off of someone's mind; there's only one other tracker like that that we know about." He explains.
"I bet Alice saw me coming." Bella chuckles.
"Alice's visions are subjective. I mean the future can always change." He says.

~~Alex's POV~~
Carlisle, Esme, Rosalie, Emmett and I are in the kitchen of our house in Forks, making Bella some lunch when I hear the front door being opened and then shut. Bella and Edward are here, I quickly and carefully speed through what I am doing to help Carlisle and Emmett with their part of the preparations, as I listen to our guest walk through the house with Edward. "Is she even Italian?" Rosalie complains as she helps Emmett.
"Her name IS Bella." Emmett points out as if that makes the answer obvious.
"And your name IS Emmett, but that doesn't mean anything." I chuckle, mimicking him.
"Yeah?" He questions, "What do you know ALEXANDRA?" He shoots back with a cocky look on his face.
"I know I'm about to throw your ass through the wall if you keep calling me Alexandra." I snap back, a bit of seriousness in my voice as I flip him off.
"Stop it you two." Carlisle scolds, "I'm sure she'll love it no matter what."
I'm about to say something when I catch Bella's scent coming down the hall. Edward was right; she really is different from any other human. I am so happy for my self control in this moment, "Here comes the human." Rosalie smiles a bit, causing Esme and I to smile too.
Esme walks around the island and over to the pair, "Bella. We're making Italiano for you." Esme tells her.
I can tell Edward is slightly uncomfortable by this whole thing considering he did ask us not to do this and we did anyway, Bella goes to say something but is unsure of what to say so Edward steps in, "Bella, This is Esme, my mother for all intents and purposes." He tells her. Emmett waves with the knife in his hand, I grab his wrist and take the knife so he doesn't scare Bella, before waving myself.
"Bon giorno?" Bella greets.
"Molto bene!" Esme replies.
"You've given us an excuse to use the kitchen for the first time." Carlisle says, as he turns around to face everyone.
"I hope you're hungry." Esme says to Bella.
"Yeah, absolutely." Bella replies.
"She already ate." Edward sighs. Bella just glares at him for a second.
Next thing I know, Rosalie crushes the bowl in her hands sending pieces of glass and food to the floor, I quickly sigh knowing what's coming, "Perfect." Rosalie groans, stepping away from the glass.
Emmett and I walk over to her to help chill her out but she's not having it as Bella tries to explain, "Yeah, it's just because I know you- I know that you guys don't eat so..."
Esme notices she's struggling and cuts in, "Of course. That was very considerate of you."
"Don't worry about it Bella." I smile.
"Just ignore Rosalie. I do." Edward tells Bella.
"Yeah, let's just keep pretending like this isn't dangerous for all of us." Rosalie states, as she starts to get more upset, Emmett and I have to hold her back.
"I would never, ever tell anyone." Bella tries.
"She knows that." Carlisle reassures her.
"We all do." I sigh, leaning against the wall next to Rosalie.
"Yeah, well, the problem is you two have gone public now, so..." Emmett starts.
Esme glares at him, cutting him off with just one look, "No." Rosalie starts, "She should know, The entire family will be implicated if this ends badly." She says, crossing her arms as she walks closer to Bella.
"Rosalie, stop scaring her." I groan, laying my head back against the wall.
"Badly?" Bella questions, "As in I would become the meal."
Emmett, Edward and I all have to choke back laughing. I start to clean up the mess in the kitchen letting Bella and the others talk, until I realize the two had left the room. I hop up on the counter and sit down, "I think that went well." Carlisle sighs.
"Yeah." I chuckle, "Could have been worse I guess." Esme tells Rosalie and Emmett to clean up the mess on the floor as they leave the kitchen. I follow. "Guys, are we sure about this?" I ask.
The pair turn to face me, "He's been alone too long." Carlisle says, giving me a sympathetic smile.
"How can it end well?" I ask, "She's human."
"Alice has been wrong before." Esme points out.
"Not often." Carlisle says, appearing to take my side.
"Guys, Bella is what he wants, it will work out." Esme smiles.
"Is that true about Demetri and I too?" I ask, crossing my arms.
"Yes." She says with no hesitation. "It will all work out, somehow."
"You're a hopeless romantic." Carlisle smiles at his wife, kissing her.
I groan, roll my eyes and walk away.
* * * * * * * *
We are hanging out in a field ready to place baseball, during a storm, Bella and Edward come across the field; Esme and I catch up with them, pulling Bella aside, "Glad you're here. We need an umpire." Esme tells her.
"She thinks we cheat." Emmett snips.
"Oh, I know you cheat." Esme smiles.
"That's because they do." I laugh.
"Just call 'em as you see 'em, Bella." Esme tells her.
"And, I'll make sure these clowns don't accidentally knock you into next week." I joke.
"Okay." Bella says, a bit shy. Esme walks away and I go to follow when Bella grabs my arm, stopping me, "You're not gonna play?" She asks.
"Nah." I shake my head, "I just love to watch these guys make a fool of themselves." I laugh.
We all take our places and I stand a foot or so behind Bella, to pull her back if they get out of control like they normally do. "It's time." Alice calls as lightning strikes.
Alice throws the ball. Rosalie hits it, sending it through the trees and runs around the base. "Okay, now I see why you need the thunder." Bella says, as Edward runs into the woods. "That's gotta be a home run, right?" She asks Esme.
She shakes her head, "Edward's very fast." She tells Bella.
"He's faster than all of us." I add over her shoulder. Just then I see the ball flying through the trees.
Esme catches the ball as Rosalie slides through the grass to get to the base. "You're out." Bella says.
I can hear Emmet cheering near me, "Out! Whooh!" Rosalie looks over at Emmett, clearly annoyed, "Babe, come on, it's just a game." He says, trying to diffuse the glare on her face.
As Rosalie stands up she looks at Bella with a death glare, and I put my arm between the two, "That's enough Rosalie." I whisper.
Carlisle's next, while going for the ball Edward and Emmett crash into each other midair and miss the ball. Jasper's turn, the hit causing Emmett to have to climb a tree to get it, "My monkey man..." She says, with a smile on her face.
Rolling my eyes I pretend to gag, "You two are so gross." I sigh.
She just shakes her head at me and goes up for her turn. She hits it, sending the ball into the woods, "Stop!" Alice calls out, causing everyone to run to Bella, "They were leaving, then they heard us." Alice says.
Edward immediately starts to leave with Bella, "Let's go."
"It's too late." Carlisle tells him.
"Put your hair down." Edward tells Bella.
"Like that'll help. I could smell her from across the field." Rosalie snips.
"Not helping." I groan, glaring at her. Walking with Carlisle and the others to keep Bella behind us. Three vampires come out between the trees. One of the vampires holds up the ball, "I believe this belongs to you." He says, throwing the ball to Carlisle.
Carlisle catches it, "Thank you."
"I'm Laurent, and this is Victoria, and James." Laurent tells us.
"I'm Carlisle, this is my family." He says, looking at us.
"Hello." Laurent says. Causing me to become a bit uneasy as James stares both Edward and I down.
"I'm afraid your hunting activities have...caused something of a mess for us." He tells the three.
"Our apologies." Laurent says, "We didn't know the territory had been claimed.
"Yes, well, we maintain a permanent residence nearby." Carlisle informs the three.
"Really?" Laurent questions. "Well, we won't be a problem anymore. We were just passing through."
"The humans were tracking us, but we led them east. You should be safe." Victoria says, eyeing me.
"Excellent." I tell her, with a slight smile as I cross my arms.
"So...could you use three more players?" Laurent asks, "Oh, come on. Just one game."
Carlisle glances in Edward's direction, "Sure, why not? A few of us were just leaving, you can take their place." He says, "We'll bat first." He throws the ball.
Victoria catches it, "I'm the one with the wicked curve ball."
"Oh well, I think we can handle that." Jasper says, causing a few of us to laugh.
Victoria and Laurent start to walk away, but James keeps eyeing Bella and Edward. I carefully move to step in front of them but the wind picks up, and I can already tell James picks up on Bella's scent. "You brought a snack.
We all quickly push Bella behind us and I stand between Carlisle and Alice, "The girl is with us. I think it best that you leave." I tell the three.
"I can see the game is over." Laurent realizes, "We will go now. " He starts backing off, James and Victoria don't move, so I step closer, "James?" Laurent tries, seeing that I alone am not someone to mess with, let alone my family.
They leave and Edward gets Bella out and drives off. I run behind them, following them through the woods making sure the three aren't following. When we get to Bella's house I immediately jump up in her bedroom and pack some things for her, Edward joins and then Bella. "What am I gonna say to him?" She asks. "I can't hurt him."
"You just have to." Edward tells her.
"We'll be down in the truck." I hug her, "You'll be okay." I reassure her before following Edward out the window. "Do you realize how insane James is?" I ask Edward, as we stay nearby.
"Can you track him?" Edward asks, ignoring my question.
"James? Yes. Bella? No. Just like you can't read her mind." I answer, "He's close. Watching." I tell him.
"Good." Edward says, pissed off. We follow Bella truck and jump on the side windows, when Bella realizes it's us she relaxes. "Your father's going to forgive you." He says, opening the door, "Why don't you let me drive."
Bella moves over and Edward slides into the driver's seat, I slide in in the empty spot next to her, "He won't." She says. "You should've seen his face. I told him the same thing that my mom told him when she was leaving him."
"It's the only way he'd let you go. Just don't worry about him now. He's safe. The tracker's following us." I tell her. Just then, Emmett jumps in the back of the truck and Bella jumps, "Shh, It's okay. It's just Emmett." I whisper.
"Alice is in the car behind us." Edward says, as I climb back out of the truck and join Emmett in the back, keeping an eye out for James.
We drive to the house. Before the truck even stops I jump out of the back, something isn't right. Edward parks the truck and follows me inside with Bella, as soon as we open the door and walk in I see Laurent and Carlisle, the two of us immediately get protective over Bella, "Wait!" Carlisle stops us, "He came to warn us. About James."
I hold myself back from ripping out his throat, trying to control my old instincts of fighting unfriendly vampires, "This isn't my fight and...I've grown tired of his games." He starts, "But he's got unparalleled senses, absolutely lethal. I've never seen anything like him in my three hundred years. And the woman, Victoria, don't underestimate her." He tells us.
I cross my arms, stepping in his way before he can leave, "If you think like that then clearly you don't know me very well, Laurent." I challenge.
Laurent laughs, "I know you well enough Alexandra. But you're not alone anymore, are you?" He glances back at Carlisle before looking back to me, "You can't make the same decisions now that you used to." He brushes past me and leaves.
Carlisle looks at me with concern in his eyes, I just shake my head, signaling him to drop it. Speeding down to the garage I meet Emmett and Jasper. Carlisle, Rosalie, Edward and Bella behind me; Alice and Esme coming around the side of the cars. "I've had to fight our kind before." Jasper says.
I turn around, walking backwards, "I have too, not easy to kill." I add.
"But not impossible." Emmett tells us, going for the stuff in storage.
"Right." I sigh, "I track him down, then we rip him apart and burn the pieces."
"I don't relish the thought of killing another creature. Even a sadistic one like James." Carlisle sighs.
"That's why I'll be doing it and not you." I tell him, "James is a threat to us all."
"What if he kills one of us first?" Rosalie asks.
"I won't let that happen." I reassure her, laying a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm gonna run Bella south, you lead the tracker away from here." Edward suggests.
"No, Edward." Carlisle tells him. "James knows you'd never leave Bella. He'll follow you."
"I'll go with Bella. Jasper and I will drive her south." Alice suggests. "I'll keep her safe, Edward."
"It'll be okay." I add, trying to help both Bella and Edward relax.
"Can you two keep your thoughts to yourselves?" Edward asks, upset.
"Yes." Alice and I answer at the same time, as Alice takes Bella to the car.
"Rosalie, Esme, Alex, could you put these on so... the tracker will pick up... Bella's scent?" Edward asks, throwing us things from Bella's bag.
"Why?" Rosalie asks, throwing the coat down. "What is she to me?"
"Rosalie, Bella is with Edward. She's a part of this family now." Carlisle says, picking up the coat, "We protect our family."
Rosalie grabs the coat from him and walks away, I follow. "Rosalie? Are you okay?" I ask, putting Bella's coat on.
"Yeah. I just—" She sighs.
"I'm sorry Rosalie, but Carlisle's right. Bella is family now." I tell her.
* * * * * * * * * * *
Rosalie, Emmett, Edward and I speed through the woods, marking trees with Bella's scent. After a minute we realize James isn't following us and stop, "He figured it out." Edward says, worry in his voice.
Shaking my head I throw the coat to the ground, "I'll follow him, I'll keep my distance." I tell the three before speeding off, following James's track as he tracks Bella. As I'm following James, it takes everything I have not to rip him to shreds myself, even though I probably wouldn't stand a chance on my own, not with everything I have to lose now. I can't risk it, no matter how badly I want to... not yet. James clearly isn't as good as Laurent said because he doesn't even realize I'm following him— Or maybe I'm just that good. Thanks to Amun and Demetri.
~~Third Person POV~~
-Edward calls Bella-
Bella: "Edward, are you okay?"
Edward: "We've lost the tracker, Alex followed him. The woman's still in the area. Rosalie and Esme have gone back to Forks to protect your father. I'm coming to get you. And you and I...are gonna go somewhere...alone. And the others will keep hunting. I'll do whatever it takes to make you safe again."

~~Alex's POV~~
James finally stops at what looks like an old studio. I immediately run and get the others, meeting Edward halfway through getting Jasper and Alice, "He's at an old studio! Go. I'll get the others and meet you there." I tell him. We both run off in different directions. Jasper and Alice lead me to Carlisle and Emmett, "I found James, Edward is on his way there now. We need to hurry."
When we get to the studio Carlisle runs in ahead of us. Emmett, Alice, Jasper and I go up to the balcony to make sure James can't get out if he decides to run. Once he gets to Edward we jump down, the boys and I immediately head for James while Alice goes to Bella. Carlisle tries to get Edward to focus, "Son. Enough. Remember who you are." He looks to Bella before looking back at Edward, "Bella needs you." I hear Alice call for Carlisle, "Your brothers and Alex will take care of him."
Edward lets go of James. The boys and I drag James to the middle of the room, Jasper lets go of him, leaving Emmett and I to hold James as he rips up the floorboards to start a fire. Once the fire starts Jasper switches with me and grabs James as I rip his head off throwing it into the fire, letting them rip his arms off and throwing the rest of him in the fire. We just watch James burn as Edward, Carlisle, and Alice try to help Bella; before I hear Carlisle's voice, "Alex! Get over here!"
I speed over and notice that the blood is starting to get to Alice, I grab her shoulders, getting her to look at me; "Go Alice. I got this, go. It's okay." I tell her, taking her place as Edward tries to suck the venom out of the bite left behind by James.
"Edward, stop. Her blood is clean." Carlisle tells him, "You're killing her. Edward. Stop. Stop. Find the will."
Once Bella loses consciousness Edward finally stops. As Edward tries to collect himself after everything, I carefully help Carlisle get Bella in the car and we drive her to the hospital, explaining that after the fight with Charlie, Edward, Carlisle and I try to convince Bella to come back to Fork. And when she came over, she fell down two flights of stairs and through a window. Edward decides to stay with her while the rest of us go home to Forks. "Is Bella going to be okay?" I ask Carlisle, as he drives.
"James is gone. Victoria is on the run. Bella should be okay for now, Edward is going to stay with her until she comes back to Forks. From there, we'll just be careful." He answers.
I sigh and nod a bit, "And what if Aro catches wind of us?" I ask, worried the Volturi will find out about Bella somehow.
"Let's not think about that right now, Alex. We'll cross that bridge when and if we need to." He says, trying to help.
I can feel him looking at me while trying to stay focused on the road, "What is it Carlisle?" I chuckle.
"Could you handle coming face to face with the Volturi?" He asks.
"We'll see. We'll see."

Chapter Text
~~Alex's POV~~
Today is Bella's birthday, Alice had me running around all night helping her plan and set some things up for the party at the house tonight. We just gotta get through a day of school first. I'm walking through the halls of the school with Alice and Jasper as we wait for Bella and Edward so Alice can give Bella her gift. I finally spot Bella and Edward coming down the hall and nudge Alice to look, "Bella!" Alice calls out as she jumps the staircase railing, I go under it. Jasper's lame and takes the stairs. "Happy Birthday!" Alice hugs Bella.
"Shhh Shhh." Bella tells her as they separate and Alice hands over her gift. Bella sighs, "I thought we said no presents."
"I've already seen you open it..." Alice argues, "... and guess what? You love it!" She smiles, "You're gonna wear it tonight, our house." Bella shakes her head, "Come on, please?" Alice begs, "It'll be fun."
"Alright." I sigh to Jasper, "Do the thing, this is just getting sad now." I whisper.
Jasper does and Bella agrees to the party, "Okay. Alright." Bella gives in.
"Great!" Alice smiles, "Okay, I'll see you at 7."
"Finally. Now she can shut up about it." I jokingly complain in a whisper, as Alice walks back over to us and we start to walk away.
"Jasper!" Bella calls out, stopping us, "No fair with the mood control thing." She complains.
"Sorry, Bella. Happy... Never mind." He says, as we walk away again.
As we walk down the hall to class I look at Alice, "Why did you have to plan such a big party anyway?" I ask. "She's literally only one human."
"Because it'll be fun!" She shoots.
I roll my eyes and split from them to walk to my class with Edward and Bella, "If you say so." I mumble.
"I heard that." Alice calls out from behind me.
"You were supposed to!" I shout back with a chuckle.
I duck into class a minute or so late due to my detour with the couple and we're watching Romeo and Juliet. Great just what a single, old, lonely vampire asked for. And sit in the back next to Edward and Bella. Everyone is crying as Romeo delivers a romantic speech to a supposed dead Juliet. "I hate being celebrated." Bella whispers.
"There are worse tragedies." I whisper.
"Yeah, look at Romeo. He kills his true love out of sheer stupidity." Edward whispers. "Though I do envy him, one thing." Edward goes on.
"Juliet. She's, like, perfect. If you like that obviously beautiful sort of thing." Bella says, thinking he's talking about Juliet herself.
Edward laughs at her and I just sit and listen, "No, not the girl. The suicide." He says, "It's nearly impossible for... some people. For humans... a little poison..."
"...a dagger to the heart." I cut him off, "So many different options."
"Why would you guys say that?" Bella questions.
"Because I've considered it... many times in my long existence." I tell her.
"I considered it once." Edward says, "I didn't know if I'd get to you in time. I had to come up with some kind of... plan." He explains.
"What was the plan?" Bella asks.
"Same plan we all have when we're done..." I tell her.
"Go to Italy... and provoke the Volturi." Edward explains.
"The what?" Bella questions, very confused.
"The Volturi..."
Edward gets cut off by Mr. Berty, "Now, who would like to repeat the last few lines... just to show they were paying attention? Mr. Cullen."
"Yes Mr. Berty-" Edward says, going on to say the last few lines.
Satisfied but bothered Mr. Berty feels cheated, "Eyes on the screen people." He scolds the class.
The rest of the class went by with no interruptions, and when the bell rings we all leave and Bella stops me in the hallway, "Alex, can I ask you something?" She mumbles.
I look around making sure no one is listening in on us, "Why haven't I done it? Considering I'm the oldest in the family?" I ask, knowing what she wants to ask.
"Something like that." She chuckles nervously, "Sorry."
"No, it's okay." I tell her with a smile. "I'll explain when we get to the house later tonight, it'll be easier once you understand who the Volturi actually are."
* * * * * * * * * * *
Once at the house, Bella, Edward and I are standing in front of a giant painting of the Volturi, "The Volturi are a very old, very powerful family. I guess they're the closest thing to royalty our world has." Edward explains.
"Is that Carlisle?" Bella asks, noticing him in the painting.
"Yep." I answer, leaning against the wall next to it.
"He lived with them for a few decades. Described them as very refined. No respect for human life, of course, but... respect for the arts and the sciences at least. And the law... above all the law." Edward explains.
"Vampires have laws?" Bella asks.
"Not very many." I tell her, "There's only one that's regularly enforced."
"What is it?" She asks.
"To keep the existence of our kind a secret. We don't make spectacles of ourselves, and we don't kill conspicuously. Unless of course you want to die." Edward answers.
"You gotta stop talking about that... both of you..." She looks between Edward and I then back at Edward, "I can't even think... about someone hurting you."
"Bella, the only thing that can hurt me is you. And I don't have anything else to be afraid of." Edward tells her.
"That's not true." Bella says.
"Victoria?" Edward questions. "She'll come for me one day. Alice will see what she decides and... we'll be ready."
"And I'll know if she gets anywhere near us. I can track her down and rip her head off... just like I did James." I add.
Bella sighs, "I can protect you. If you change me." She tries.
"Bella, you already protect me. You're my only reason... to stay alive. If that's what I am. But it's my job to protect you..." He tells her, I cut him off.
I just about gag on all the love in the air, "Get a room you two." I joke, before hearing Alice come down the hall, "Incoming."
"...from everyone except my sister." He finishes as Alice comes into the room.
"It's time!" Alice says, running into the room. She starts dragging Bella out of the room, "It's time! It's time! It's time!"
I share a look with Edward as we follow the two out of the room, "Sorry about all this. We tried to rein Alice in." Carlisle says to Bella as I come down the stairs.
"Like that's even possible." I mutter, from my spot next to Emmett and Edward.
"Happy birthday Bella!" Esme hugs her.
"Thanks." She whispers.
As they hug, Alice takes a picture of them with Bella's camera, the flash causes Bella to turn around and look at Alice, "I found it in your bag." Alice explains, "You mind?" She asks.
Before Bella can answer, Emmett looks to Edward, "Dating an older woman. Hot." Emmett says, a smirk on his face. Edward just gives Emmett a look, "What?" He questions.
"Emmett, you're so gross." I tell him, standing behind the boys.
"You first Rosalie." Alice says, helping with the gifts.
Rosalie hands a wrapped up gift to Bella, "It's a necklace. Alice picked it out." She says.
"Thanks." Bella smiles.
Alice drags Bella and Edward together for a picture, "Show me the love." Before handing out the next gift, "This one's from Emmett." She says.
Bella turns to him, shaking it, "Already installed it in your truck. Finally a decent sound system for that piece of..."
Bella cuts him off, "Hey, don't hate the truck."
I move down by her to give her my gift, "It's a bracelet, it's brought me a lot of luck over the years. I quit wearing it a long time ago and just carried it with me, so don't be too bothered if it doesn't fit." I tell her.
"Thank you Alex." Bella smiles, giving me a small hug,
"Open Esme and Carlisle's." Alice hands it to her.
Bella turns to the couple with the gift, "Just a little something to brighten your day." Carlisle says.
"You've been looking kind of pale lately." Esme add.
"Oh and we don't?" I joke, getting Esme and Bella to laugh,
Bella starts opening the card and gets cut, "Ow... paper cut." She says, as if it was no big deal.
Human blood has never bothered me in the sense of most vampires, it doesn't make me thirsty; sure my instincts tell me to go after it but I find it gross. I watch as the blood drips from her finger and onto the floor, Edward and I both immediately look to Jasper. I can already tell where this is going, Edward pushes Bella back and I race to catch her so she doesn't get too badly hurt, as she sits on the floor I go and grab Jasper as he slips past Carlisle and Emmett. The three of us are able to hold him until Alice can get in front of him and calm him down, "Jaz. Jaz. It's okay. It's just a little... blood."
Looking at Emmett I make sure he's got Jasper before I move to Bella, meeting Carlisle at her side, "Get Jasper out of here." Carlisle calls out.
Alice starts to leave the room, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I can't." Rosalie follows her out of the room.
"It's okay Alice." I reassure her.
"We'll have to take care of this in my office." Carlisle looks at me, I nod. He then turns his attention to Edward, "Check on Jasper. I'm sure he's very upset with himself, and I doubt he'll listen to anyone but you right now." Edward doesn't move, "Edward." Carlisle tries again before Edward walks away.
Carlisle and I help Bella to his office and start cleaning the blood, "I never wanted to have a party." Bella says, as if this is all her fault.
"It's not your fault." I reassure her.
"Jasper hasn't been away from human blood as long as the rest of us." Carlisle adds.
"How do you guys do it?" She asks.
"Years and years of practice." Carlisle answers.
"I always found the idea of drinking human blood disturbing and gross, even when my instincts were telling me to go for it... I couldn't." I explain to her.
"Do you ever think of taking the easy way out?" She asks more to Carlisle than to me.
"No." Carlisle answers, sure of himself. "I knew who I wanted to be. I wanted to help people. It brings me happiness, even if I am damned."
"Damned? Like Hell?" Bella questions.
"Yeah." I answer "Where do you think we go when we do die?"
Bella looks between the two of us, "You guys couldn't be damned. You couldn't. It's impossible."
"Thank you Bella." Carlisle says. "You've always been gracious about us.
"So that's it?" She questions. That's why he won't change me?"
"Imagine the situation in reverse." Carlisle starts, "If you believed as Edward does, could you take away his soul?" Carlisle leaves the room and I clean up everything.
"Earlier today, you asked me why I haven't taken the easy way out. Considering I am one of the oldest." I start, Bella nods, "The Volturi guard. A member of that guard is the man that changed me after my last Coven Leader changed him. Demetri was his name- we grew up together and were amazing friends. The night he was changed I thought he was killed so I ran; not too long after he found me. I know now that it took everything he had not to kill me, until I was stupid and cut myself. My only thought was not letting someone I love be alone in that type of existence. He lost control and almost killed me. After I woke up and my change was complete, I went to find him; but the Volturi got to him first."
"So if you went to them to die—"
I cut her off, seeing where she's going with her question, "Demetri would be the one to kill me. And even after all this time, even if he doesn't really remember me, I could never put him through that. Not ever."
"You love him?" Bella asks.
"Only I think I realized it too late." I answer.
"Do you regret...?"
"No. I just wish we weren't apart." Edward takes Bella home and I go to sit with Jasper, "Hey." I whisper, "How you doing?"
"I lost control Alex." He says, "And Bella got hurt because of it."
"Jasper, it's not your fault. You haven't been away from human blood as long as the rest of us have. Even Alice had trouble and she started off as a vegetarian." I try to help.
Over the next few months after Edward broke up with Bella we moved around a lot, not staying in one place for very long. My relationship with Alice became better and we became closer as we tried to help Jasper more through the difficulties of human blood. Eventually we were able to get him to trust himself again and Alice had a vision of Bella dying; with Edward gone it was up to Alice and I so we raced back to Forks.
Alice and I are standing in the entryway of Bella's house when she comes in and turns on the light. As she turns to see us, she immediately becomes startled and jumps; once things become clearer and she relaxes, "Alice? Alex?" She questions in shock, hugging both of us. "Oh my god! What are you..."
"Bella!" Alice cuts her off.
"I'm sorry, I just can't believe you guys are here. Is..." Bella tries to relax a bit.
"Would you like to explain to me how you're alive?" Alice starts.
"What?" Bella questions.
"I saw a vision of you. You jumped off a cliff. Why the hell would you try and kill yourself? I mean, what about Charlie? What about..."
"Alice, relax." I pull her back.
"I didn't try to kill myself." Bella says, looking at me. I can tell by the look she's giving me that maybe she didn't try to kill herself by jumping off that cliff, but she wasn't in her right mind either.... A feeling I know all too well. "I was cliff jumping. Recreationally. It was fun."
"I have never met anyone more prone to life-threatening idiocy." Alice says, with a bit of a laugh.
Bella looks at me, "I've actually met some pretty crazy people in my time so that tracks." I tell her.
"Does... Did you tell him?" Bella asks.
"No." Alice answers.
"He only calls in once every few months." I add, "He said he wants to be alone."
"Bella, what is that god-awful wet dog smell?" Alice asks.
I just laugh, "You're seriously just noticing it now?"
"Umm... That's probably me." Bella answers Alice. "Or it's Jacob." She clarifies, taking her jacket off.
"Jacob who?" Alice asks.
"Jacob's kind of a werewolf." Bella adds.
"Bella! Werewolves are not good company to keep." Alice says, a bit upset.
The scent of wet dog comes in from another part of the house, I stand up and move closer to Alice, "Speak for yourself." Jacob says. "I had to see you were safe."
"I thought you couldn't protect me here." Bella says.
"I guess I don't care." He says.
"Well, we're not gonna hurt her." I tell him.
"No, you're just two harmless Cullens. I'm talking about the other bloodsucker who tried to kill Bella because of you."
"Victoria?" Alice questions, as we both look at Bella.
"Yeah, Victoria's been around."
"I didn't see her. I didn't see you get pulled out of the water, either." Alice says, then she realizes, "I can't see past you and your lack of mutts."
"Don't get me upset..." Jacob starts, as he walks closer to Alice. "...or things are going to get very ugly."
I step between them, "Oh please, you're just glorified house pets. I out ran Ephraim Black and his pack in 1957, I think I can handle you." I snap.
Bella gets up and moves between Jacob and I, "Hey stop." She says.
"We'll give you a minute." I tell her as Alice and I head for the door.
"Hey." Bella calls after us, we turn around, "You guys aren't going anywhere. You're gonna come back right?"
"As soon as you put the dog out." Alice tells her before we leave. "You okay Alex?" She asks as we wait outside.
"Yeah." I sigh. "You know, the day we met, I had amazing respect for Ephraim. I mean sure, we're meant to be mortal enemies but he was just protecting his land. But nowadays, it's like they want to kill us just because they can."
Just then Alice has a vision and runs inside, I follow her. "Bella! Bella, it's Edward. He thinks you're dead. Rosalie told him why we came here." Alice tells her.
As Bella starts yelling at Jacob I grab her and get her to face me. "Bella!" I get her attention, "This means he's going to the Volturi, he wants to die too. But we still have time if we hurry. We can get you there." I tell her.
I run around the house and her room packing a small bag for her as Alice pulls the car around and Jacob tries to beg her to stay. We get to the airport and then to Italy and I drive us down the road. "I'm guessing you didn't rent this car." Bella points out.
"I figured you wouldn't be opposed to a little grand theft auto." I tell her as we speed down the road.
"Not today." She says.
"Alright. Hang on." I tell the girls as we hurry.
Alice has a vision, "What?" Bella asks, "What do you see?"
"They refused him." Alice answers.
"So?" Bella questions.
"So he's gonna make a scene. He'll show himself to the humans, forcing the Volturi's hand." I tell her, "Just like I would have done."
"No!" Bella yells, "When?"
"He's gonna wait until noon, when the sun's at its highest." Alice answers.
Bella looks at the clock, "God, Alex, you gonna hurry up!"
"I know. I got it." I tell her, "Look, there's Volterra."
As we get closer to the humans I throw on a pair of sunglasses, "Why are they all in red?" Bella asks.
"San Marco's Day Festival. They're commemorating the expulsion of vampires from the city." Alice answers.
"It's a perfect setting. The Volturi will never let him get far enough to reveal himself." I add.
"We have five minutes." Bella panics.
"I know Bella. Just breathe." Alice tries.
I get us as close as I can because we're stopped by local police. Bella gets out of the car, "Alice! Alex!"
"Bella you're the only one he can't see coming, if either one of us go, he'll read our thoughts and rush into it." I tell her.
"Where do I go?" She asks.
"He'll be under the clock tower. Go!" Alice yells. We watch for a minute as Bella runs off before we drive off to park the car, "Can you do this?" Alice asks me.
"What are you talking about?" I ask.
"Coming face to face with him again, after all this time." She elaborates.
"This isn't about me." I tell her, "This is about Edward and Bella."
"No one would blame you if you stayed here." She sighs.
"Alice. Stop. Okay?" I snap a bit. "I'm not worried about the Volturi and I'm definitely not worried about Demetri. I'll be fine." I relax a bit.
After parking the car we work our way to the clock tower and break in, I follow behind Alice, "Come on guys, it's a festival. You wouldn't want to make a scene." She says.
I shut the door behind us and as I turn to face the group, I see Demetri.
~~Third Person POV~~
Even with Alice, Bella, Edward and Felix around; even after all this time of not being around her, Demetri's guard drops ever so slightly. He silently thanks the universe for Felix's attention being elsewhere so no one but he and Alexandra notice his change. In his mind, the hold the Volturi have on him slowly begins to crack and Alexandra can see it. She never had to have Edward's gift to know what her best friend was thinking, even if he wasn't actively thinking it. At this moment, if Alexandra's heart was still beating it would have stopped. Just then, a voice comes from down the hall, "Enough." Jane calls out, causing both Demetri and Alexandra to snap out of it.
"Jane." Edward whispers, his arm wrapped around Bella.
"Aro sent me to see what was taking so long." She says looking between Felix and Demetri. Her eyes stay on Demetri for half a second longer as she tries to figure out if something is off but turns around anyway.
"Just do as she says." Alice whispers as the group follows.
Jane, Edward and Bella, Alice, Alexandra, then Demetri and Felix walk down the highway before getting to a set of stairs and Jane steps to the side, "Go ahead." She says, letting Bella and Edward go first.
"Don't be scared." Edward tells Bella.
"Are you?" She asks.
"No." He answers.
Getting to the elevator Demetri turns to watch the group as the doors open, but really he's looking at Alexandra one more time, making sure he's not seeing things. In the elevator Felix, Demetri, and Alexandra are on the back wall; Alexandra tucked between the side wall and Demetri. She can't help but wonder if Demetri purposely moved her there to keep her from Felix, but she couldn't be sure. Alice stood in front of Demetri with Bella next to her, on the other side of Bella is Edward, with Jane in the front. The ride is nothing if not awkward. Six vampires, three of which drink human blood, in a tiny space with one human. Demetri couldn't stop looking at Bella, Alexandra brushed her hand against him trying to get him to refocus as she pretended to change her footing; it worked.
As the group gets off the elevator Alexandra moves in next to Alice, keeping space between Demetri and Bella, as they walk down the hall. They're greeted by a human at the front desk as they walk past, "Is she human?" Bell asks Edward.
"Yes." He answers.
"Does she know?" Bella asks.
"Yes." Edward answers.
"Then why would... she wants to be." Bella quickly realizes.
"And so she will be." Demetri says.
"Or dessert." Jane says.
Alexandra can't help but roll her eyes in an effort to hide her emotions over feeding on humans. As the group gets to the doors Jane opens them and they all walk through. "Sister, they sent you out to get one and you bring back three and a half. Clever girl." Alec says to his sister.
"What a happy surprise! Bella is alive after all. Isn't that wonderful? I love a happy ending." Aro says, as he walks down from his seat to the group, Bella and Edward between Alexandra and Alice. "Ah. They are so rare." He says as he grabs Edward's hand, using his gift to see everything that has happened between Edward and Bella. "Her blood appeals to you so much, it makes me thirsty. How can you stand to be so close to her?" Aro asks Edward.
"It's not without difficulty." Edward answers.
"Yes, I can see that."
"Aro can read every thought I've ever had, with one touch." Edward tells Bella. "And now you know everything, so get on with it." Edward tells Aro.
Deep down Alexandra is hoping the Aro didn't go too far back in Edward's mind, looking into the times he read her mind. But Aro is so busy with Bella that he doesn't even care about everything else. "You are quite a soul reader yourself, Edward." Aro says. "Though you can't read Bella's thoughts. Fascinating." He looks between the two, before backing up a few steps, "I would love to see if you are an exception to my gifts, as well." He tells Bella, holding out his hand. "Would you do me the honor?" Bella goes to him, holding out her hand, as Aro tries to use his gift on her, "Interesting. Hmm. I see nothing." Aro backs up, "I wonder if... let us see if she is immune to all our powers. Shall we, Jane?" He looks at her.
"No!" Edward says as he gets between Bella and Jane.
Jane uses his gift on him as Bella begs for her to stop Alice and I go to Edward and Alec grabs Bella, "Jane?" Aro calls.
Jane's focus is removed from Edward, "Master?" She says, as Edward takes a breath, laying on the floor. "Go ahead, my dear." Aro tells Jane.
Bella looks to Alexandra for a split second but Alexandra tries not to draw attention to herself and just stays focused on Edward. "This may hurt just a little." Jane says as she starts to use her gift on Bella.
It doesn't work. Aro starts laughing at the realization, "Remarkable. She confounds us all. So what do we do with you now?"
"You already know what you're going to do, Aro." Marcus says.
"She knows too much. She's a liability." Caius says.
Aro sighs, "That's true. Felix?"
Alec lets go of Bella spinning her around as he walks away. "No!" Edward yells as he flips Bella behind him and goes straight into Felix, knocking him to the ground.
Alexandra runs to help him but Demetri grabs her, "Don't." He whispers, knowing the others won't hear him as they're focused on Edward, as another member of the guard grabs Alice.
At this moment Alexandra doesn't know what to do or think, Demetri has her in a hold that if she were to move, he could snap her neck. Of course she can tell his grab isn't that tight and he is just putting up an appearance so he and Alexandra don't die too. The hold the Volturi have on him continues to creak and break, but he can't show it; and neither can she. Alexandra can see every millisecond and every tiny movement of the fight, every detail.
Edward can hold his own in a fight but there is truly no winning here- if he loses Felix kills him under Aro order, if Edward wins and kills Felix Jane and Alec will kill everyone, including Alexandra and most likely Demetri depending on his reaction to her death. "No!" Bella screams, "Please! No! Kill me! Kill me! Not him." She begs as Felix is ready to rip Edward's head off.
Aro stops Felix and walks towards Bella, "How extraordinary. You would give up your life for someone like us? A vampire. A soulless monster."
"Just get away from her." Edward tries.
"You don't know a thing about his soul." Bella tells Aro.
"This is a sadness." Aro looks at Edward, "If only it were your intention to give her immortality."
Aro goes in to kill Bella and Alexandra tries to stop him, but Demetri's grip gets tighter. "Wait!" Alice calls out. "Bella will be one of us, I've seen it. I'll change her myself."
Aro holds out his hand to Alice and the guard lets her go. Going through Alice's thoughts Aro sees Edward and Bella running through the forest, Bella's gold eyes as her skin shines as the sun hits it. "Mesmerizing. To see what you have seen before it has happened." He says to Alice, before walking over to Bella, "Your gifts will make for an intriguing immortal, Isabella." He backs away from her and addresses all of us, "Go now, make your preparations."
"Let us be done with this." Marcus says. "Heidi will arrive any moment. Thank you for your visit."
"We will return the favor. I would advise that you follow through on your promise soon. We do not offer second chances." Caius threatens.
"Goodbye my young friends." Aro says as the group leaves the room led by Demetri.
As the group walks down the hallway to the outside door Heidi passes by with a group of humans, "Nice fishing Heidi." Demetri comments.
"Yes, they do look rather juicy." She agrees.
"Gross." Alexandra mutters as the two groups walk their separate ways.
Heidi's voice Carrie's from down the hall, "This way, please. Stay together."
The group is by the main door with Demetri, when Alexandra looks around to make sure no one else is around. "Demetri." She says, getting his attention. He turns to face her, "I know you have the Volturi in your head, I know how powerful they are." She starts, "But now that you know I'm alive, if you choose to leave them, I'll be waiting."
Demetri doesn't acknowledge her words, at least not physically or verbally, but Alexandra can see the wheels turning in his mind as she looks to Edward who just nods. All Demetri does say is, "Stay here until midnight then leave." Before he leaves.
~~Alex's POV~~
As midnight hits, we head out the door and to the car to drive to the airport to get home. I'm driving, Alice is in the passenger seat and both Edward and Bella are in the back as Balla is fast asleep. As we sat on the plane going back to Forks all I can think about is how Demetri acted; one second he seemed to be the friend I remember, the next he was the Volturi guard again. They have their hooks in him so deep he could only break through maybe three times. Once when he first saw me, then again in the elevator and the third time when he stopped me from helping Edward against Felix. Edward leans in my direction, "I read his mind. He'll come eventually."
Chuckling, I lean to him, "I highly doubt it, but I had to try."
* * * * * * * * * * *
We're back at the house and in one of the main areas, "You all know what I want. And I know how much I'm asking for, the only fair thing I can think of for it to be fair is to just vote." Bella tells us.
"You don't know what you're talking about." Edward says.
"Shut up." Bella scolds him. "Alice?"
Alice goes to hug Bella, "I already consider you my sister. Yes."
"Thank you." Bella says in the hug.
"I vote Yes." Jasper says, "It would be nice to not want to kill you all the time."
"I'm sorry." Rosalie starts, "I'm really sorry to both of you for how I've acted, and I really am grateful that you were brave enough to go and save my brother. But this isn't the life I would have chosen for myself. And I wish that there'd been someone to vote No for me. So no." Rosalie says.
"I vote Hell Yeah." Emmett says, giving Bella a hug, "We can pick a fight with these Volturi some other way."
"Guess it's my turn." I chuckle. "I know what it's like to be alone in this existence and Edward has seen enough of that in his time. He's got you, and we just saw what would happen if he lost you. I don't want to watch him go through that again, whether it's disease or old age that takes you, I don't want to watch him fall apart. You are an amazing part of this family and I have to vote Yes." I tell Bella.
"I already consider you a part of the family. Yes." Esme votes.
Carlisle steps forward, he goes to say something but Edward speaks first, "Why are you doing this to me?" He asks. "You know what this means."
"You've chosen not to live without her, which leaves me no choice. I won't lose my son." Carlisle tells him.
Edward starts walking to his car and I run after him, "Edward, I know you don't want to. I know you don't want this for her."
"You're right. I don't." He says as he keeps walking.
"But she's asking for it." I grab his arm, stopping him. He turns to face me. "Could you really live out the rest of your existence knowing that you didn't give her the one thing she spent all these years asking for? How is that fair to her?"
"I'm trying to give her a normal life." He answers.
"Edward, man, her life stopped being normal the day she saw us in the cafeteria. You know as well as I what happened when you tried to give her a normal life; you both almost died."
"So I don't have a choice?" He asks.
"You do have a choice. You can be the one to do it. You can be the one to change her. I think she'd rather have you do it anyway." I tell him, "Otherwise, you know she'll just convince one of us to do it."
"Like you convinced Demetri?" He points out. "How did that work out for you again?"
"That's not fair Edward." I whisper.
"Don't force your happy ending on me because yours ran away with the Volturi." He snaps before leaving.
Edward's right, even if he's upset over the vote and everything that has happened. None of us can force this on him, and I did let my happy ending get away, I could have stopped him that day but I didn't. I was scared.

Chapter Text
~~Alex’s POV~~
After everything that happened in Italy Bella got grounded so her and Edward have to be careful how much time they spend together but right now we’re hanging out at school in the Cafeteria, listening to the other students practice their speeches, I sit down with Jasper and Alice. “I’ve decided to throw a party.” Alice says to the group.
“After all, how many times are we gonna graduate high school?” Jasper asks Edward and I, we both chuckle.
“Too many times to count.” I whisper to Jasper.
“A party? At your place?” Angela asks.
“I’ve never seen your house.” Jessica adds.
“No one’s ever seen their house.” Eric tells her.
“Another party, Alice?” Edward asks, a bit annoyed.
“It’ll be fun.” Alice argues.
“Yeah. That’s what you said last time.” Bella adds.
“That’s exactly what I said.” I sigh.
Just then Alice leans back in her seat. Edward, Jasper and I all look at each other then at her. Edward reading her mind. After school Alice tells me about the vision and Edward asks me to go with him to drop Bella off at the police station. “I know you two know what she saw. Tell me.” Bella says.
“It was nothing.” Edward says.
“Don’t worry about it Bella.” I add.
“You looked worried.” Bella tells Edward, “And now you’re having Alex follow us?”
“Just that everyone noticed how strange Alice is.” Edward tries.
“I think that ship sailed long ago.” Bella says.
“And hey, I’m only here because I don’t want you to get in trouble with Charlie again, I figured me being here would be a buffer so he didn’t feel he had to ground you again.” I add, which is partially true.
Bella nods a bit, probably not believing me before looking in the police station, “I wonder what’s wrong.” She says.
“Their son went missing in Seattle over a year ago. Charlie’s doing what he can, but…” Edward explains, not being able to get the words out.
“But it’s not looking good.” I finish, crossing my arms.
“Do you guys know something about this?” Bella asks.
Edward looks at me, unsure if he should answer, so I do, “We’ve been tracking the situation in Seattle for a while now. They have unexplained disappearances and killings. If the situation continues…” I sigh, “The Volturi will have to step in.”
“If they go to Seattle, they could come here. They could see I’m still human.” Bella realizes.
“It won’t get that far.” Edward reassures her. “But we’ll go to Seattle if we have to.”
“It’ll be okay.” I whisper to her as Charlie comes out.
While the three of them talk, I run through possible scenarios in my mind for what’s happening in Seattle and how it could play into our family, if at all, as I head to the car and get in. “Alex, would you relax?” Edward groans as he drives me home.
“Shut up.” I snap, rolling my eyes.
While Bella and Edward are in Florida visiting her mom, Alice gets a vision of Victoria paying us a little visit, so we decide to beat her to it and wait for her. “Are you sure this is where you saw her?” Carlisle asks Alice.
“She’s almost here.” Alice answers.
“Alice is right.” I add, already picking up on Victoria’s track.
“On your left.” Alice tells us, and we bolt off.
Running off into the woods I get ahead of everyone to catch up to her, Emmet close behind. I move over to let him pass and Victoria slips his grip throwing him down to the ground over her shoulder, I jump over him and keep going after her, and that’s when she jumps across to the Wolves Territory. “Wait!” Carlisle stops us, “She’s in their territory.”
“Yeah, well, she won’t be for long.” I tell them, before going off running parallel to her in case she decides to jump back over.
“She’ll get away!” Esme calls out.
“No she won’t.” Jasper tells her, picking up his pace.
I watch through the trees as the Wolves chase after her, as I keep up with Jasper and Emmett. “She’s coming back!” I yell, watching as she jumps from their territory to ours.
Once she’s over Jasper and I immediately go after her, everyone else not too far behind. The two of us jump through the trees to catch her and I almost get her but she slips from my grip and I hit the ground, quickly getting up and continuing. I watch as she jumps over to the Wolves side and Emmett goes after her, I go after him. “Emmett no!” I hear Rosile call out.
One of the Wolves grabs Emmett but I push them apart, landing in the water between them. “That’s enough guys!” I snap before dragging Emmett by his arm back to the family, “Emmett, let’s go. Now.”
The next morning Emmett gives me a ride to school, “Thanks for last night.” He sighs as we get out of the car.
“Honestly, I’m shocked you even listened to me. You wouldn’t even listen to your wife.” I smile.
“He never listens to me.” Rosile whispers, rolling her eyes.
“News flash Rose, the guys we love never listen.” I tell her, before heading inside to go to class.
* * * * * * * * * * *
Edward has been losing his mind since Bella left to hangout with Jacob, Esme made me promise I’d stick with him so he wouldn’t run off and do anything stupid, but by the end of the night we finally head over the Bella’s house. “Hey.” She says, opening the door.
“Do you understand how worried I’ve been?” Edward asks, still a mess.
“I was perfectly safe.” Bella says.
“He knows that.” I sigh, leaning against the house.
“I almost broke the treaty to be sure of it.” He says, ignoring my comment.
“Yeah, and that would be an all out war-” Something cuts me off.
“I know, I smell like a dog. I’m sorry.” She says, taking off her jacket.
I look over at Edward who picks it up too, “No, no, something’s wrong.” He says walking in the house and up the stairs, I follow.
We go into her room and find the scent of another vampire, “Guys, what’s wrong?” Bella asks, standing in the doorway.
“Someone’s been in here.” Edward tells her, leaving the room.
“Bella, grab a few things and meet us in the car. We’re taking you to our house.” I tell her.
“What did he mean by someone?” She asks, too worried to think.
“A vampire.” I answer, heading to the car.
Bella grabs some things and Edward drives us over, I take Jasper and Emmett to try and track down the scent. My abilities may be different than that of a normal tracker but I’m still good at what I do. After losing the scent the three of us have no choice but to head back to the house. “Who was it? Someone we know?” I hear Carlisle ask as the boys and I walk into the house.
“This stranger, I didn’t recognize his scent. Neither did Alex.” Edward says.
“A nomad passing through?” Esme asks.
“A passerby wouldn’t have left Bella’s father alive.” Rosile answers.
“The scent disappeared about 5 miles south of Bella’s house. I should be able to pick it up again but I don’t know if we should.” I tell the group, hearing the conversation as we walk in.
“Someone’s orchestrating this.” Carlisle says.
“Yeah. Anyone else would have killed Bella’s Father, like Rosile said.” I answer.
“Victoria?” Bella asks as I sit on the arm of the couch next to her and Alice.
“I would have seen her decide.” Alice explains.
“Has to be The Volturi.” Edward tells her.
“I don’t think it’s The Volturi, either.” Alice explains, “I’ve been watching Aro’s decisions too.”
“So we keep looking.” Emmett suggests.
“We’ll also take shifts protecting Bella at her house.” Carlisle adds.
“Another protection detail?” Rosile snips.
“Rosile. Come on.” I sigh.
“No, she’s right. I mean, you can’t protect me, watch my dad and search for the intruder.” Bella says.
“And for Victoria.” Rosile adds.
“And keep yourselves fed.” Bella says.
“I’m not leaving you here defenseless.” Edward tells her.
“Well, I’m not gonna let you starve.” Bella argues. “And I wouldn’t be unprotected. I have…” She can’t finish her sentence.
“What?” Edward asks.
“The Wolves.” I tell him, “It’s better than nothing.”
Over the next few days we all took turns watching over Bella and her Father with the Wolves, it wasn’t always easy but we made it work. Right now Bella is at the house with us as we watch the news trying to figure out what’s going on, when in reality they have no clue the things that wait in the shadows. “It’s getting worse.” Carlisle says, as he shuts off the TV. “We’re gonna have to do something.”
“It takes more than one of our kind to cause the damage they’re reporting.” Jasper says. “Quite a few more.”
“An army.” I add. “Undisciplined, conspicuous.”
“It’s Newborns.” Edward says.
“What, like new vampires?” Bella asks.
“The first few months after the change.” Edward answers.
“That’s when we’re at our most uncontrollable. Vicious.” Jasper explains. “Insane with thirst.”
“Something to look forward to.” Emmett comments.
“Emmett.” I scold. “Look, no one has trained these Newborns, but this isn’t random.”
“Someone’s creating an army.” Carlisle says.
“Well, now we’re definitely going to Seattle.” Emmett says, jumping off the couch.
“Cool your jets there Bud.” I roll my eyes.
“An army of vampires?” Bella asks
“And they’ve been created to fight someone.” Jasper comments.
“We’re the only clan even close to Seattle.” Edward adds.
“Regardless of why they were made, if we don’t stop them, the Volturi will.” Carlisle sighs. “I’m surprised they’ve let it go on this long.”
“Maybe they’re behind it.” Edward comments, “In Italy, I read Aro’s mind. He wants me and Alice to join him, but he knows we’ll never choose him as long as our family’s still alive.”
“An army could solve that for him.” I scoff.
After a few more minutes Edward and Bella leave, Carlisle and Emmett go out to hunt leaving the house to just Jasper and I. “Hey, you know what we’re gonna need to do right?” I ask him as we look out the windows into the woods.
“Yeah.” He answers with a nod.
“I buried that part of my past a long time ago. You?” I ask.
“Looks like we’ll have to dig it up again.” He sighs, walking away.
* * * * * * * * * * *
Bella shows up at the house again. Emmett, Jasper, Rosile and I all come out of the other room. “Should heal fairly quickly.” Carlisle says.
“What happened?” I ask, jumping up on the counter.
“Trying to walk and chew gum at the same time again, Bella?” Emmett asks, leaning in front of me.
She chuckles, “I punched a werewolf in the face.”
“Badass.” Emmett comments, “You’re gonna be one tough little Newborn.”
“Tough enough to take you on.” Bella challenges Emmett.
“Oh shit.” I chuckle.
Rosile gets up from her spot on the couch, throwing the paper down and walking out, “Don’t worry about it.” Emmett tells Bella.
“We all have our own stories.” I add.
“Got any leads?” Edward asks, changing the subject.
“No sign of the intruder. But Victoria continues to make appearances.” Jasper answers.
“Yeah, and I almost had her this time too.” I groan, glancing over at Jasper. Over time as we got closer, we shared our backstories and realized we share a skill that none of the others have. “Jasper.” I signal that I need to talk to him as I walk away, he follows.
“Your anxiety is higher than normal.” He comments, leaning against the wall.
“Dude.” I scoff before sighing, “If this fight is happening we need to train.”
“We will.” He says, “Everything will be fine.”
“Moments like this, I kinda wish I stayed in Egypt.” I joke, “At least Amun wasn’t one to get involved in conflict, at least not without reason—” I sigh, “And considering he’s scared to death of Aro and feeds off the humans—”
Jasper cuts me off, “There would have been no Bella.”
“No Volturi.” I correct him.

At the graduation ceremony Jessica is giving her speech, “When we were five, they asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up… our answers were something like astronaut, president… or in my case, a princess. When we were ten, they asked again and we answered- rockstar, cowboy, or in my case a gold medalist. But now that we’ve grown up, they want a serious answer. Well, how about this: Who the hell knows?” The class goes crazy, showing her that she has a point as she keeps going, “This isn’t the time to make hard and fast decisions, it’s the time to make mistakes. Take the wrong train and get stuck somewhere. Fall in love- a lot. Major in philosophy because there’s no way to make a career out of that. Change your mind. Then change it again, because nothing is permanent… so make as many mistakes as you can. That way someday when they ask you what you wanna be, we won’t have to guess, we’ll know.”
I never had much of a chance to figure out what I wanted out of my human life, not that we had may options back then, but everyday I spend with my family- Carlisle, Esme, Jasper, Alice, Emmet, Rosile, Edward and now Bella, I know I made the right choice all those years ago.
* * * * * * * * * * *
It’s time for the graduation party at our house, Alice has this place looking like some magical nightclub- not my taste but Alice has always been special so we’re used to it. I’m walking around making sure these kids don’t break anything when out of the corner of my eye I catch Alice coming downstairs, she stops suddenly. I work my way over to her, meeting Bella there. “Alice?” I question.
“What’d you see?” Bella asks.
“The decision has been made.” She answers.
“What’s going on?” Jacob walks over, pushing me out of the way.
I walk around to the other side of Bella, “We’re not going to Seattle, are we?” I ask, leaning on the rail.
“No. They’re coming here.” She says, a bit of panic in her voice.
“Let’s find Carlisle.” I mumble moving to the back deck, Alice, Bella and the mini wolf pack follow.
Once there Alice explains her vision, Jasper staying close to her, “How long?” Edward asks, staying close to Bella.
“They’ll be here in four days.” Alice answers.
Carlisle’s pacing, obviously sickened by the situation, “This could turn into a bloodbath.
“Who’s behind it?” Edward asks.
“I didn’t see anyone I recognized-maybe one.” Alice says.
Edward reads her mind, “I know his face. He’s local. Riley Biers.”
“Wait, that kid that Bella’s father is helping his parents look for?” I ask, a bit shocked. “He didn’t start this.”
“Whoever did is staying out of the action.” Alice says.
“They’re playing with the blind spots in your vision.” Carlisle tells her.
“Either way, an army is coming and there aren’t enough of us to protect the town.” Jasper says.
“Hold up. What damn army?” Jacob buts in.
“Newborns.” I answer, “Our kind.”
“What are they after?” Embry asks.
“They were passing around Bella’s scent. Her red blouse.” Alice answers.
“They’re after Bella?” Jacob asks, panic in his voice. He quickly straightens up, “What the hell does this mean?”
“Means an ugly fight. With lives lost.” Carlisle tells him plainly.
Jacob looks to his pack mates who nod, “Alright.” He says, turning back to Carlisle, “We’re in.”
“No.” Bella says.”You’d get yourselves killed, no way.”
“I wasn’t asking for permission.” He tells her.
“Awkward.” I mouth to Jasper who just nods, agreeing with me.
“Edward?” She sighs, thinking he’ll side with her.
It takes him a second to say anything, obviously not liking the idea, “It means more protection for you.”
“Jacob, do you believe Sam will agree to an understanding?” Carlisle asks.
“As long as we get to kill some vampires.” Jacob answers, glancing over at Jasper.
“Jasper? Alex?” Carlisle asks, wanting our input.
“They’ll give us the numbers.” Jasper answers.
“Newborns won’t even know they exist until it’s too late.” I add, still not liking the plan as I watch Jasper send Jacob a threatening glance. “It’ll give us an edge.”
“We’ll need to coordinate.” Carlisle says.
“Carlisle. Don’t.” Bella pleads, standing up. “They could get hurt, or worse.”
“They’ll need some training.” Carlisle says, kind of ignoring Bella. “Fighting Newborns requires knowledge that Jasper and Alex have, you’re welcome to join us.”
“Alright.” Jacob agrees, “Name the time and place.”
“Jake, you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into.” Bella tries, like she even understands.
“Bella.” Jacob starts, “This is what we do. You should be happy. Look at us, working together. You are the one that wanted us to get along, remember?”
The next morning we all, Carlisle, Esme, Jasper, Alice, Emmett, Rosilie and myself head out into the woods, Jasper sparing with Emmett. I smile as Emmett flies through the air because he was thrown by Jasper. He hits the ground with a huge thud before getting up, completely unfazed, “Again!”
I’m about to jump in and show Emmett how it’s done when a jeep pulls up with Edward and Bella. Moments later the wolves show up. “Alright. Time to really get to work now.” I chuckle.
“They don’t trust us enough to be in their human form.” Edward says, most likely reading their minds.
“They came. That’s what matters.” Carlisle tells him. He slowly makes his way to them, “Will you translate?”
As Edward follows I move to stand with Bella, watching Jake walk up. “Hey Jake.” She greets him.
Seconds later Sam growls at Jake and Jake snaps back slightly. “Oh ease up a bit Sam. How can we expect to get along to stop Newborns when you can’t even get along with your own pack?” I complain, earning a growl from Sam, I just roll my eyes as Alice comes to stand by Bella.
I make my way to Jasper as Carlisle greets the pack, “Welcome. Jasper and Alex have experience with Newborns, they can teach us how to defeat them.”
“They wanna know how the Newborns are different from us.” Edward tells Carlisle.
“They’re a great deal stronger than us, because their own human blood lingers in their tissues. Our kind is never more physically powerful than in our first several months of this life.” Carlisle explains, walking off, leaving it to Jasper and I.
“Carlisle’s right.” Jasper starts, “That is why they are created.”
“A Newborn Army doesn’t need thousands, like a human army. But no human army can stand against them.” I add, earning a slightly irritated glance from Jasper because I cut his thought off.
I roll my eyes, gesturing for him to continue his little speech. “Now, the two most important things to remember are first: Never let them get their arms around you, they’ll crush you instantly. And second: Never go for the obvious kill, they’ll be expecting that and you will lose.” He turns away from the wolves, “Emmett!”
The two walk past the group to get some safe distance to spar, “Don’t hold back.” Jasper tells him.
“Not in my nature.” Emmett smirks.
As the two spar, I’m impressed with Emmett… until I’m not and Jasper knocks him on his ass. “Never lose focus.” He tells Emmett.
Next Edward and Carlisle. Edward relies on his speed, resulting in Carlisle just sliding under him, forcing Edward to jump. Eventually Edward gets Carlisle on the ground, a bit too proud of himself as he gets up to walk away. Jasper walks up to them just as Carlisle gets up, “One more thing…” Edward hits the ground, “…Never turn your back on your enemy.” Jasper rolls his eyes.
Rosile and I are next. She swings at me and I push her arm down, she tries again with the other arm and I grab it, throwing her in the air. When she lands I look down at her, “What did we say about going for the obvious kill, Rose? I could have killed you twice in those few seconds alone.” I warn her, helping her up. “You gotta be more careful.” I tell her as she walks off.
Jasper and Alice, “Oh this’ll be great.” I chuckle to Emmett. As the couple spars, I can’t tell if there’s more flirting than fighting happening but it’s funny. Jasper gets a hold of her and goes in for a kiss when Alice runs past him and up into a nearby tree, “What happened to never losing focus, Jasper?” I laugh as he tries to find Alice who momentarily jumps down from the tree, finally kissing him.
I shield my eyes like a five year old, they may not be as bad as Rosile and Emmett but I’m still single dammit!
Jasper comes over to me, “Did I hear you say something just now?” He asks, an annoyed smile on his face.
“Just repeating your own advice.” I smile, “Can’t lose focus.”
“You’re annoying.” Jasper mutters under his breath as he walks away.
“I’m your sister, it’s my job to be annoying. It’s literally in the job description!” I call after him, running to catch up and shoving his shoulder with mine when I finally do.
“Someone needs to change that job description.” He jokes as we walk closer to the Jeep.
“Yeah, I’ll get right on that.” I tell him sarcastically with a chuckle.
“Jasper, Alex.” Bella interrupts from her spot on the hood of the jeep, we stop and look at her, “Are you sure there’s nothing I can do to help?” She asks.
“Your presence alone, your scent, will distract the Newborns; their hunting instincts will take over, drive them crazy.” He tells her.
“Trust me, we do this right… they won’t have enough focus to even fight.” I add.
“Good, I’m glad.” She says. We go to walk away when she stops us again, “Hey. How do you know so much about this?” She asks.
I nod to Jasper to tell his backstory first… if he wanted to. “I didn’t have quite the same upbringing as my adopted siblings.” Jasper continues to share his story, Bella and I sit through it quietly. Even though I’ve heard it from him before, it still makes me emotional.
Couple minutes later Alice comes over, knowing how emotional Jasper gets in talking about everything that happened. Giving the couple their moment I pull Bella to the side, figuring it’s my turn. “I left my last coven in 1945, I was with them for about 1,000 years.” I chuckle, realizing how long I’ve been alive, “I was on my own for twelve years before ending up in Forks in 1957. During that time a lot of other Covens heard about me, and my ability to track, given that my strength matches that of Demetri everyone wanted me. They thought they could use me to overthrow the Volturi, when I said no because I’m not stupid, the rival covens sent vampires after me… a lot of them Newborns when they realized that their people weren’t coming back alive.” I sigh, “I was fighting for my life, without any real life to fight for… it was just existing until I ended up in Forks. A year or two after I got here, the rival covens stopped coming after me, I guess they realized the land was protected by not only Carlise and Esme… but the wolves as well.”
* * * * * * * * * * *
Edward, Jasper, Bella, and I meet Jacob in an open field. “You’re not fighting? What, you pull a muscle or something?” Jacob asks, mocking Edward as he walks up.
“He’s doing it for me, okay?” Bella defends Edward.
“Whatever.” Jacob grumbles, “Just tell me the plan.”
“This field will give us an advantage in battle.” Jasper steps up.
“We need to lure the Newborns with Bella’s scent, but it needs to end here. If even one of them breaks from their ranks they will cause havoc in town.” I add.
“Edward and I are going to a campsite. But even if he carries me, they’ll still pick up on our scent.” Bella explains.
“Your stench, however, is revolting.” Edward takes the opportunity to take a jab at Jacob.
“Dude, you really don’t want to start comparing sticks—”
“Boys!” I snap, crossing my arms.
“What he means is, your scent will mask mine, if you carry me.” Bella clarifies.
“Done.” Jacob agrees.
“This is not a good idea.” Edward shakes his head.
“Edward, they won’t want to get anywhere near his… odor.” Jasper tells him.
“You keep complaining, I’m going to make him carry you too, so zip it.” I chuckle a bit. Edward glares at me, obviously not amused.
“Alright, let’s just try it.” Bella walks over to Jacob, who picks her up.
“This better work.” I sigh.
“Run.” Edward tells Jake.
Jasper and I wait a few minutes before trying to track Bella’s scent. “All we picked up was wolf stench. No Bella.” Jasper tells Edward as we come out from the trees.
“Same. This will work, Edward.” I nod.
“Great.” He says, keeping his jaw tight.
Later in the afternoon, Alice stops by Bella’s house to talk to Charlie and to set up her alibi for the battle- we agreed that she should say our family is going camping and it’ll just be Bella, Alice, and myself at the house. When in reality, we’re all going hunting to power up for the battle so Edward and Bella will have the house to themselves for the night.
* * * * * * * * * * *
Carlisle, Esme, Jasper, Alice, Emmett, Rosile, and myself are ready and waiting in the field as the Newborn vampire army heads our way. “Have I mentioned that I absolutely hate that this is even necessary?” I mumble with a bit of sarcasm in my voice.
“Repeatedly.” Emmett answers with a groan.
The Newborns get closer. I can hear them coming through the trees, so I run to them, wanting to cut the first wave off quickly. I keep Rosile in my line of sight, remembering that she had a lot of trouble during training. I know full well that Emmett will protect her, but we all have bigger things to worry about right now so we have to work together to watch each other’s backs. A few seconds into the fight and I’m already finding myself pinned to a rock with over 20 Newborns coming my way, cutting me off. They think they have the upper hand, but I quickly duck as the wolves jump over the rock and over me. Clearing the way for me to get back into the fight.
As I’m ripping the heads off of two vampires, something in my mind tells me to look up and throw the trees so I do and I see her… Victoria. And I waste no time going after her. The two of us fight through the trees as I try to keep her away from Bella and Edward before I get sideswiped by Riley. Getting close to the campsite I hear the couple, “She found us.” Bella panics, her heart rate rising.
“So did Alex.” Edward tells her, I can hear the smile on his face.
I make it to the couple, standing behind Bella as she stands behind Edward, “She’s not alone.” I tell them.
“Riley.” Edward realizes, I nod as he comes out from the trees. “Riley. Listen to me. Victoria’s using you to distract me. She knows I’ll kill you.” Victoria jumps down from her tree, “In fact, she’ll be glad she doesn’t have to deal with you anymore.”
“Don’t listen, Riley. I told you about their mind tricks.” Victoria encourages Riley.
“I can read her mind, so I know what she thinks of you.” Edward says.
“He’s lying—” Victoria assures Riley.
“You’re the one that’s lying here, Victoria.” I snap.
“She only created you and this army to avenge her true mate, James. It’s the only thing she cares about, not you.” Edward continues.
Riley hesitates, glancing over at Victoria. “There’s only you. You know that.” She pushes.
“Oh please, Victoria.” I scoff, “I know what it feels like to lose that one person you care so much about and you have revenge written all over your face, and I don’t necessarily blame you… I would too, but you’re messing with the wrong family.” I turn my attention to Riley, “Think about it. You’re from Forks, you know the area. That’s the only reason she chose you. She doesn’t love you, never has and never will.”
I watch as he starts to second guess his choices and so does Victoria so she steps in again, “Riley. Don’t let them do this to us.” She fake pleads, “You know I love you.”
Riley blinks away all doubt, “You’re dead.” He tells us.
I chuckle slightly, “I’d like to see you try.”
Just then Seth jumps into action, taking off Riley’s hand and Victoria gets scared and starts to run off, “You won’t get another chance like this again!” Edward calls after her, she stops and turns to face us. Edward starts walking his way towards her and I grab Bella, keeping her behind me, “You want her! You want me to feel the same pain you felt when I killed James. When I tore him to pieces, when I turned him into ash… when I turned him into nothing.” He keeps going as he walks closer, Victoria getting more and more upset with every word.
I immediately let go of Bella as Victoria charges at Edward, running up behind the two vampires grabbing her by her throat and throwing her down to the ground. She kicks me away and goes to grab Bella, Edward stops her and throws her into a tree. Victoria catches herself, glaring at Bella before climbing the tree. “Go!” I yell for the couple to run as I go after Victoria. I get a hold of her and Edward reads my mind, breaking the tree and letting it fall over.
She slips from me once more, her stupid Enhanced self-preservation making me hate her all the more. As I free myself from under the tree she goes after Bella again, only to have Edward tackle her into the snow. I watch as Riley gets the upper hand on Seth, kicking him in the face and knocking him out. “Okay that’s enough out of you.” I complain with a sigh.
Riley comes at me and because he’s not skilled in ANY sort of fighting, I easily trip him; grabbing his arm just below the shoulder and ripping it off. “You really should have listened to my brother.” I tell him, going in to step on his chest to rip his head off. Before I get kicked back, landing in the snow I lay there a second, “Damn. I’m really starting to lose my touch.” I complain to myself, because watching as Riley and Victoria have Edward in a hold that can easily rip his head off, “Shit.” I get up, speeding over just as I smell fresh blood coming from Bella.
Her blood is enough to throw Riley and Victoria into their killer instincts, giving me the opportunity to throw the two off Edward. I throw Riley up in the air sending him right into the jaws of Seth. “Victoria! Victoria!” He begs for her to save him, as he gets dragged away.
“I guess he should have listened to us.” I chuckle to Victoria, “You really don’t care about him.”
She charges at Bella, desperate to get to the blood. I block her way, grabbing her by her throat and lifting her up, learning from previous experience to move out of the way of her kicks as I slam her down to the ground hard enough to leave an indentation in the stone, falling to my knees on her arms so she can’t fight, “Say hello to James for me.” I smirk before ripping her head clean off.
With her dead, I fall back taking a minute to recover. “You alright, Alex?” Edward asks, making his way to Bella.
I give him a lame thumbs up, “I’m getting too old for this shit.” I sigh.
Looking up, I see Seth behind me. The wolf lets out a growl, “Something’s wrong.” Bella realizes.
“Alice wants us to go. Now.” Edward tells her, flicking a lighter.
“Oh for the love of god.” I jokingly complain, doing a flip to get to my feet again as Edward throws the lighter on Victoria’s body.
We seep back down to the field, the bodies of all the Newborns burning in front of us. “How long?” Edward asks.
“A few minutes, maybe 10.” Alice answers.
“The pack needs to leave. The Volturi won’t honor a truce with the werewolves.” Carlisle says.
Moments later a missed Newborn comes out of the trees, spotted by Leah, she goes in for an attack, “Leah, don’t!” Edward calls out to her.
The Newborn has his arms around her neck, Jacob, Edward and I all jump into action. Jacob gets there first, pulling the Newborn off her neck. The two roll and the Newborn manages to get his arms around Jacob, crushing his ribs. The pack moves in to tear the vampire apart as everyone runs to Jacob’s side with mixed emotions. Once the wolves leave the body and move to Jacob, I drag the torn pieces of the Newborn to the fire… throwing them in before standing with Alice. “They’re coming!” She calls out.
“Demetri.” I whisper, looking in the direction The Volturi are coming from. I move to stand on the other side of Bella, wanting to keep as much distance between her and The Volturi as I can.
~~Third Person POV~~
Jane, Felix, Demetri, and Alec all remove their hoods as they stand there and assess the scene, taking Bella in as well. Demetri’s eyes fall on Alex, and she can see that he's completely under their control… she looks away. “Impressive. I’ve never seen a coven escape an assault of this magnitude.” Jane says.
“We were lucky.” Carlisle tells her.
“I doubt that.” Jane snaps back.
“It appears we missed an entertaining fight.” Alec says.
“Yes.” She agrees, “It’s not often we’re rendered… unnecessary.” Faking being offended.
“If you would have arrived a half hour ago, you could have fulfilled your purpose.” Edward tells her.
“Edward!” Alex snaps at him in a whisper.
The sound of her voice causes Demetri to look at her again. When she looks at him she can already see the walls starting to crack once more, just from the sound of her voice; she mentally smiles to herself.
“Pity.” Jane says, staring at Edward.
“Well, you can see everything all at once, can you? So no one blames you for not being her.” Alex jumps in, finding anything to say to put more cracks in the wall. For a millisecond, she swears she sees Demetri smile slightly at her comment.
Jane spots a Newborn, Bree standing behind the group. “You missed one.” She sounds pleased.
Jasper moves to stand next to Bree, being able to feel her fear. “We offered her asylum in exchange for her surrender.” Carlisle informs her.
“That wasn’t yours to offer.” Jane tells him coldly. She turns her focus to Bree, “Why did you come?” She asks before using her gift to inflict pain. “Who created you?”
“You don’t need to do that. She’ll tell you anything you want to know.” Esme says.
“Oh, I know.” Jane says, obviously enjoying herself, she stops torturing Bree.
“I don’t know!” Bree answers from the ground, “Riley wouldn’t tell us, he said our thoughts weren’t safe.”
“Her name was Victoria… Perhaps you knew her?” Edward pushes, just asking for a fight again. Alex slightly rolls her eyes.
Edward, if The Volturi had knowledge of Victoria, they would have stopped her. Isn’t that right, Jane?” Carlise asks, trying to be pleasant.
“Of course.” Jane answers. “Felix.” She orders.
Felix starts to make his way to Bree. “She didn’t know what she was doing!” Esme yells out, Jane stops Felix, “We’ll take responsibility for her.”
“Give her a chance.” Carlise adds.
“The Volturi don’t give second chances.” Jane says, moving her gaze to Bella, “Keep that in mind. Caius will be interested to know that she’s still human.”
“The date is set.” Bella tells her, shocking her a bit with her comment.
“Take care of that Felix. I’d like to go home.” Jane orders.
As Felix walks up to the group, Alex considers stepping in his way but she catches Demetri slightly shaking his head, the look in his eyes begging her not to be so stupid. She keeps her eyes locked onto his as Bree is torn limb from limb by Felix, her screams soon stop. Not able to take it anymore, Alex moves back by Jasper as Felix walks away from the group. The Volturi leave just as fast as they appeared, leaving Alex to question everything once again.

Chapter Text
~~Alex’s POV~~
My brother Edward and Bella are getting married, I’m helping Alice plan everything. Well, more like she’s planning and I’m telling her she’s going overboard. Her and I are helping Bella with her heels that Alice is having her wear, she almost slips and I catch her. “Umm… You just need to break them in.” Alice smiles.
“I have been breaking them in. For three days.” Bella informs us, slightly annoyed, “Can I just go barefoot?” She pleads.
“Yes, absolutely.” I smile.
Alice simultaneously says the opposite, “No, absolutely not.” She glares at me.
“See, Alex gets it.” Bella rests a hand on my shoulder, “I’m just thinking that it’s a bit much, you know? The dress and the shoes, and all of this.” She leans on me.
“No.” Alice says as Jasper and Carlisle walk through carrying benches for the wedding, “It’s exactly enough. Tomorrow will be perfect.”
Emmett walks through with a long tree trunk, “Where do you want them boss?” He asks.
“On either side of the aisle.” She answers, as if we’re all supposed to know where that is.
“What aisle?” Rosalie asks, carrying a smaller tree trunk.
“Does no one have vision?!” Alice asks, irritated as she walks down the steps to them.
“Apparently not, boss because I’m as lost as everyone else.” I chuckle, mocking Emmett for calling Alice boss. While she’s gone I quickly help Bella change her shoes and pick up the heels, “You know, I could break these for you?” I ask her, raising an eyebrow.
“No.” Bella chuckles, “It’s fine.” Looking past me. I turn to see Edward inside watching everyone help out for the wedding before quickly being pushed aside by Alice.
“Jasper!” I fake whine, “Your wife pushed me!”
“You probably deserved it.” He calls back with a laugh, giving me the same attitude.
Alice turns her attention to Bella, “You, go home and get lots of beauty sleep. That’s an order.”
“Okay.” Bella agrees before we hug and I go to drive Bella home. “Has Alice always been like this?” She laughs from the passenger seat.
“Yes.” I let out an exhausted sigh, “For as long as I’ve known her.”
“She went all out with this wedding stuff.” Bella mumbles.
“She really did.” I chuckle, “I’m scared to see what she comes up with if I ever get married.” My eyes focused on the road.
“We’ll see one day.” She smiles as we pull up to her house.
I smile back, “Bye Bella!” I wave as she gets out of the car.
* * * * * * * * * * *
The next morning Alice and I are helping Bella get ready for the day. “What did I say about beauty sleep?” Alice asks, pointing out the fact that Bella looks like she hadn’t slept at all.
“Sorry.” Bella apologizes, “Bad dream. It was wedding jitters.”
“You look fine, Bella.” I assure her, stepping back as Rosalie comes in.
“Do you need some help?” She asks, “I could do her hair.”
Alice nods, “Really?” Bella asks, as Rosalie comes up behind her.
“Please.” Rosalie scoffs, “I’m not offended by your choice of groom.”
“Just my blatant lack of respect for morality.” Bella realizes.
“Essentially.” Rosalie smiles.
“Oh yeah.” I chime in, “When Rose found out how I ended up being turned she gave me the cold shoulder for like 50 years.” I tell Bella, before my own thoughts confuse me, “While somehow still being my best friend..?” My voice raises to make it more of a question. “Still don’t know how she pulled that one off.”
“I have many talents.” Rosalie turns and smiles at me.
“Weddings.” Alice smiles, dragging us all in a hug as I make my way back, “The bring everyone together.”
We then hear Renee’s voice, “Alice? Bella? Alex?” She calls out.
“In here, Mom.” Bella calls out to her.
“Oh, my gosh! You’re so beautiful.” Renee starts crying, “Oh Honey.” She quickly realizes that her tears could be messing up her makeup, “Crap! My mascara.”
“Mom!” Bella laughs.
Alice hands Renee a handkerchief, “Thanks.” She takes it, and catches the tears. “Charlie, get in here!” She calls out.
Charlie is very hesitant to walk in, “Are you sure? I don’t wanna…” He comes in wearing a nice tux, Bella stands from her seat, shocked to see him all dressed up, “I know.” He says, “I look hot.” Causing all of us to laugh. “We thought you needed something blue.” He opens a gift box, revealing a jeweled hair comb. “And something old. Besides your mother.” He jokes.
“Nice.” Renee rolls her eyes at him.
“I think she’s got the ‘something old’ covered, I mean I’m here.” I whisper to Rosalie who tries desperately to hold back a laugh.
Bella carefully picks up the comb as Charlie continues, “It was Grandma Swan’s.”
“But we added the sapphires.” Renee adds.
“It’s beautiful, you guys. Wow. Thank you so much.” Bella smiles, handing it off to Alice to put in her hair as she sits back down.
“It’s your first family heirloom. Pass it on to your daughter, and her daughter.” Renee starts to cry again.
We work it into her hair as Bella stares at me through the reflection of the mirror as she realizes she’ll never actually have grandchildren or great-grandchildren. I give her a sympathetic smile as I rest a hand on her shoulder and she seems to snap out of it, “Mom, I love it.” She tells her mother, while standing.
The two go in for a hug but Alice stops them, “No smudging my masterpiece.” Referring to Bella’s makeup.
“She’s right.” Renee backs up a bit.
“Okay.” I walk over to the closet and grab the dress, “Time for the dress!” Holding it up, “Do you wanna see?” I ask Renee.
“I wanna see.” She claps her hands.
The ceremony is absolutely beautiful, Bella looks great in her dress. I can hear her heartbeat from around the corner as I sit between Alice and Rosalie in my own purple dress after promising I’d match with Alice. As Bella walks up she’s nervous but as soon as she sees Edward she immediately calms down. After the kiss and the 5 minutes of solid clapping from all of us in the seats, the real party starts. I’m never never one for parties, but I try to talk to people only to make my way to Bella and Edward as Carmen, Eleazar, Kate, Irina, and Tanya are talking with them. “…I can’t do this.” Irina whispers.
“You promised.” Tanya almost scolds her.
“They invited one.” Irina looks over in Seth's direction.
“Irina, he’s our friend.” I inform her.
“They killed Laurent.” She snaps back at me.
“He tried to kill Bella.” Edward adds.
“I don’t believe that. He wanted to be like us. To live in peace with humans. With me.” She starts to get emotional, stepping in Edward’s space.
“I’m sorry.” Edward tells her, before she quickly walks away.
I chase after her, “Irina!” Catching up to her, I grab her arm, “Irina…” I sigh, letting go of her, “Are you okay?”
“What do you think?!” She snaps, “We were happy and they just ripped that from us… they killed him!” She groans, “But why am I telling you any of this, you have no idea what it’s like to lose someone you love.” Before walking away.
The newlyweds leave for their honeymoon shortly thereafter while the rest of us stay in Forks. A week into their vacation Alice has a vision that panics us all so she calls Edward’s phone but Bella picks up. A few hours later, Bella calls Rosalie, “Hello?” Rose answers.
“Rosalie.” Bella mumbles into the phone.
“Bella? What’s going on?” Rosalie asks, a bit panicked.
“I need yours and Alex’s help.” She tells Rosalie.
I grab the phone from Rose, “Bella, it’s Alex. Anything you need, we’ll help you. What’s up? Carlisle said…”
“I’m pretty sure I’m pregnant.” She cuts me off.
“And I take it the three of us are on the same page as to what should be done?” I ask, looking up at Rosalie who nods.
“Yeah.” Bella’s voice comes over the phone.
“You got it.” I tell her, trying to reassure her before hanging up.
* * * * * * * * * * *
For the last two weeks Rosalie and I have been helping Bella take care of herself while the fetus develops. I’m sitting with Bella on the couch when I hear Jacob pull up on his motorcycle and come inside. “Is it true?” He asks Carlisle.
“Hello, Jacob, how are you?” Carlisle asks, ignoring him.
“Listen, just give it to me straight—” He starts, getting cut off by Bella.
“Jake, is that you?” She asks, loud enough for her voice to carry.
“She’s here?” Jacob asks Carlisle, irritatingly.
“They came home two weeks ago.” Carlisle answers. Not wasting a second Jacob heads for the stairs, Carlisle tries to stop him, “Jake.”
The two guys walk up the stairs and into the main area, Rosalie blocks Jacob’s sight of Bella by standing in front of her, while I stay on the couch next to her. “I’m glad you came.” She tells Jacob.
He tries to walk closer but Rosalie steps forward, “Close enough.” She threatens him.
“What’s your problem?” Jacob asks, taking a step closer.
I stand up and move next to Rosalie, glaring at the wolf, “We don’t want you getting too close.” I tell him, matching Rosalie’s threatening tone.
“Guys, it’s okay.” Bella calms the situation from behind me.
While taking my seat next to Bella again, Rosalie steps aside so Jacob can see Bella covered with a quilt. He sits on the edge of the table in front of her, “You look terrible.” He jokingly points out.
“Yeah, it’s nice to see you, too.” Bella laughs slightly.
“So, are you gonna tell me what’s wrong with you?” He asks.
“Rose, Alex, you wanna help me up?” Removing the quilt from her lap.
Jacob moves as I slide the table away from us more. Bella grabs one of my hands and one of Rosalie’s as we carefully help her up, supporting most of her weight. He immediately sees that she’s pregnant and glares at Edward, who already looks like he was going to rip his own head off for “putting” Bella in this situation. The wolf immediately makes his way to Edward, obviously angry, “You did this!” We help Bella sit back down as I go around the couch next to Emmett to stop Jacob.
He gets stopped by Emmett and I as we put hands on his shoulders. “We didn’t even know it was possible.” Carlisle says to Jacob from across the room.
Jacob shoves Emmett’s hand off his shoulder and shakes mine off, turning to Carlisle, “What is it?” He asks.
“I'm not sure. Ultrasounds and needles won't penetrate the embryonic sac.” Carlisle tells him.
“I can’t see it, either. And I can’t see Bella’s future anymore.” Alice adds.
“We've been researching legends, but there isn't much to go on. What we do know is that it's strong. And fast-growing.” Carlisle explains.
Pissed off and freaked out Jacob steps towards Carlisle, “Why haven't you done anything? Take it out of her!” He yells.
“This is none of your business, dog.” Rosalie snaps from next to me.
“Rose!” Esme yells, my eyes widen, I’ve never in all my years with the Cullens heard this woman raise her voice. And to be honest I’m scared now. “All this fighting isn't good for Bella.” Her voice calm once again.
“The fetus isn't good for Bella!” Alice argues.
“Say the word, Alice. "Baby." It's just a little baby.” Rosalie argues back.
“Possibly.” Jasper steps forward to defend his voice.
“Alright, enough!” I groan, running my fingers through my hair. I turn to Jasper, pointing at him, “One, it is a baby. I mean what else do you expect a newlywed couple to have to deal with after a honeymoon?” I turn to Jacob, pointing at him, “Two, don’t go blaming my brother for what Bella has going on now— last I checked, which was a VERY long time ago— it still took two people to do the deed. So shut up.” I let out a huge sigh, sitting back down on the couch next to Bella.
Jacob rolls his eyes at me, “Carlisle, you've gotta do something.” He pleads.
“No.” Bella jumps in, her voice loud enough to get everyone’s attention, “It's not his decision. It's not any of yours.”
“Jacob, I need to talk to you.” Edward says as he quickly walks out of the room. Jacob follows.
“You okay?” I ask Bella, worried about the arguing.
She nods, “I’m good.” After a few minutes Jacob comes back in, Rosalie and I quickly step in his way. “Rose, Alex, I’m fine, really.” She kicks us out.
“Alright, we’ll be in the other room if you need anything.” I smile at her before walking away, Rosalie reluctantly follows.
From the other room I can hear the start of their conversation, “So, Edward sent you in here to talk to me?” Bella asks Jacob.
“Sort of. Though I can't figure out why he thinks you'd listen to me. I mean, you never have before.” He answers, they both laugh before he changes the subject, “Okay, Alex I get, but since when are you and blondie BFFs?”
“Rose and Alex both understand what I want.” She tells him, causing me to smile.
“Did you ever want kids?” Rosalie asks, catching my focus.
I shake my head slightly, “I wasn’t opposed to the idea back then, but uh, with what my family put me through… I didn’t want to pass that on.” I chuckle slightly, “Besides, I was only 19.” I shrug.
When Jacob leaves, clearly upset I speed back to Bella and sit next to her, “Hey Alex.” Bella groans, obviously dealing with some pain.
“Deep breath, Bella. It’ll pass, even human babies will give their parents grief before they’re born.” I give her a small smile, “This one’s no different.”

Jacob comes back a few hours later to warn us about Sam wanting to kill Bella. Everyone other than Rosalie is in the living room, “Sam's lost the element of surprise, and he doesn't want to take you on outnumbered, so he's not gonna come at you head on. He's got the place surrounded and he'll wait for his opportunity.” He explains.
“He won't get through without a fight.” Emmett says, from behind the couch.
“Agreed.” I add.
“No fights.” Carlisle turns to us, “We won't be the ones to break the treaty.”
“The treaty is void, at least in Sam's mind.” Jacob informs us.
“Well, that’s great.” I groan, crossing my arms.
“Not in ours.” Esme tells him.
“Carlisle.” Emmett steps forward, “No one's hunted for weeks.”
“We'll make do.” Esme tells him.
Jasper glances at me, not happy. Emmett steps back. I wrap my arms around their shoulders, “I’ll show you guys a thing or two from when I was on the run. We’ll be fine.” I tell them.
“You've done us a great service, Jacob. Thank you.” Carlisle nods to Jacob.

I haven’t left Bella’s side since Jacob warned us, she’s spent a lot of her time sleeping so that gives me time to do some reading on legend’s regarding our situation. Jasper keeps bringing me stacks of books from our library, every time I get through the last one there’s a stack of 20 more sitting on the table in front of me. One morning while Bella’s with Edward and Carlisle to check things over I give myself some time to relax, to keep my hunting instincts in check so I don’t go out and get myself killed because I was stupid and needed blood.
Hearing Edward yell from across the house, I make my way to the makeshift hospital room that we set up for Bella just as Edward storms out, pushing past me. Walking in, I find her on the break of crying, “Hey.” I whisper, walking up to her, not wanting to scare her after getting yelled at.
“Hey.” She tries to hide it, giving me a weak smile.
Chuckling I say, “I heard him from across the house, you don’t need to try and act all tough.” I sigh, “He shouldn’t have yelled. He’s so wrapped up in this twisted idea that you choose this as, like, a way to leave him or something, but you and I both know that’s not true.” She nods in agreement. “Look, how about this…” I look over my shoulder to make sure no one’s coming in, “…if you still want, you can hang on as long as you can and I will personally do everything in my power to help.”
“But Carlisle said—” She starts and I cut her off.
“Who cares what Carlisle said, the man couldn’t even figure out that this is a baby at first.” I tell her, throwing my hands up, just mentally going nuts with this whole situation, “He’s not as smart as he likes to think he is sometimes.”
Rosalie and I continue to help take care of Bella, after she tells me she wants to keep going, keep fighting, I’m not about to tell this woman no; weak or not she’d slap me into next week. One night we’re all sitting there, the tv is on but nobody really cares it’s just a distraction from needing to hunt.
“Are you cold?” Edward asks Bella as she pulls the sleeves of her sweater to cover her hands.
She nods, “I got it.” Jacob moves closer to her, trying to use his abnormally high body heat to keep her warm, one of the perks of being a shapeshifting wolf, I guess. Bella smiles at him. “Don’t do that.”
“What?” Bella asks.
“Smile like I’m your favorite person in the world.” He answers.
“You’re one of them. Feels complete when you’re here, Jake.” She tells him.
Bella leans over the couch like she’s about to be sick. I hold her hair back, while Edward grabs the trash can, and Jacob rubs her back. She’s got nothing in her system. “We need to find a way to get some food into her system.” Esme comments as Bella lays back down.
“If I could only see the fetus…” Alice sighs.
“The baby…” Rosalie and I correct her.
“Maybe I could figure out what it wants.” She continues her thought.
“Think you might be right.” Edward says randomly.
“What?” I ask confused before realizing Edward probably heard his thoughts.
“Jacob just had an idea.” He answers.
“It wasn’t an idea.” Jacob chuckles, “It was a snide comment.”
“What were you thinking?” Carlisle asks.
“That he’s probably just looking for someone to sink its teeth into.” He says.
I have to hold back a laugh at the look Jasper gives him, and poor Emmett looks like he’s just falling apart. “He’s thirsty.” Bella realizes.
“ I know the feeling.” Emmett comments.
I nod slightly in agreement, just because I’ve gone this long without hunting before, doesn’t mean it’s any easier. “Carlisle, if the baby’s craving, it’s not gonna want animal blood.” I tell him.
Carlisle walks to the kitchen, “I have some O negative laid aside for Bella.
Jasper immediately looks up and I have to lay a hand on his shoulder to stop him from following Carlisle. Alice stands up, seeing him struggle, “Walk with me.” She grabs his hand, practically dragging him out of the room.
Rosalie looks across the room at Emmett and nods, telling him to take a walk too. Carlisle comes back pouring blood into a cup. “Wait. Wait. Wait. You’re gonna make her drink that?!” Jacob asks, confused, concerned and grossed out.
“It’s the fastest way to test the theory.” Carlisle answers.
“Only if you’re comfortable with it.” Edward checks with Bella.
“I’ll try anything.” She says.
“Just hold on.” Edward covers the glass with a paper cup.
“I think I’m gonna be sick.” Jacob moves away.
I stand up, “I can barely stomach the thought of me drinking human blood, but a human drinking human blood.” I shiver at the thought, “I might actually be the first vampire to throw up.” I chuckle, leaving to find Jasper, Alice and Emmett.
Over the next few days Edward and Carlisle continue to give Bella blood to drink while the boys and I keep our distance, that is until Carlisle calls for me. As I walk in, Carlisle puts a blood bag on the table, “So that’s the last of it?” Jacob asks.
Carlisle nods, “Bella could deliver as early as tomorrow. If she’s going to have any chance at all, she’ll need more blood.”
“And you need to feed. You have to be at your strongest for her.” Esme tells him, before looking at Jacob, “We need to go tonight.”
“Carlisle, you’re the enemy now. Sam won’t hesitate. You will be slaughtered.” Jacob tells us, pacing the room.
“Emmett will come with us.” Esme says.
“That won’t be enough.” Jacob tells her, slightly irritated.
“I can go too.” I lean on the table.
“No.” Esme says, “You’re the only one of us that can stay focused the longest without feeding, Bella’s going to need you here.”
“Okay.” I sigh.
“We have no choice, Jacob. If there’s anything we can do to save her, we have to try.” Carlisle argues with Jacob.
“You’d risk your lives for her?” He asks, “You two would go out hunting to be at your best to help her?” He points to the couple, “And you…” He points to me, “…would risk starving to stay here and help her.
Esme looks at me and I nod, before she says, “Of course we would, Bella’s a part of this family now.” She answers him.
“Yeah. I can see that. This really is a family.” Jacob says, looking out the window, “As strong as the one I was born into. I know what I have to do.”
While Esme, Carlisle, and Emmett are out hunting and getting more blood for Bella and the baby, the girls and I stay in the house with Edward as Rosalie, Alice and I try to talk Bella out of her baby names. Then Jacob walks in. “Hey. Are you okay?” Bella asks him as we help her stand up.
“Yeah, it's not like I'm the one carrying a demon.” Jacob answers with a chuckle.
“This is pretty important, Bella. Why don't you tell Jacob what you've decided?” Rosalie asks.
“What now?” Jacob asks, slightly panicked.
“Rose is trying to talk Bella out of her baby names.” Edward smiles.
“We both are.” I chuckle.
“They hate them.” Bella tells the wolf.
“Well, then I’m on your side no matter what you picked.” He tells her.
“They’re not that bad. If it’s a boy, EJ, Edward Jacob.” Bella says.
“Okay, fine, that one's not awful.” Rosalie gives in a bit, “Why don't you tell him the girl's name?”
Bella looks to Edward, “I was playing around with our moms' names. Renée and Esme. And I was thinking... Renesmee.” She tells him.
“Renesmee?” Jacob questions.
“Too weird?” Bella asks.
Jacob is left speechless for a moment, so Edward speaks, “No, that's not too weird. It's beautiful. And it's unique, which certainly fits the situation. I like Renesmee.” He smiles.
Rosalie grabs the cup of blood off the table and hands it to Bella as Alice and I keep her up. Bella goes to grab it from her but misses and it starts to fall. I quickly catch it and place it on the table. That’s when I hear the sound of Bella’s spine breaking, everyone else is so in shock they can’t move- now I’m starting to see why Esme asked me to stay- I get in front of her and gently catch her before her knees can hit the floor to hard and lay her on the floor.
With Bella going into labor we get her to the makeshift hospital room, Jacob and I trying to keep Bella alert, “It’s gonna be okay Bella, we got you. Just try to stay focused.” I tell her as I hold her hand.
“Rosalie, pass the morphine.” Edward practically orders in a panic.
Alice is on the phone with Carlisle, “Carlisle said the placenta must have detached.” She tells us as Edward gives Bella the shot of morphine. “He’s coming as fast as he can.” She tells Bella.
“We’ll have to do it.” I tell Edward.
Rosalie grabs a scalpel but Edward grabs her hand. “Let the morphine spread!”
“There’s no time!” She says. “He’s dying.”
“If we don’t do this now, we could lose both of them! Now, between all our medical degrees over the years, I think we can figure this out.” I shrug, “Not to mention my own personal experience because my human mother decided to have two more kids after me.”
“Get him out now!” Bella orders.
Rosalie cuts her open while Jacob and I try desperately to keep her focused on literally anything else, and keep her awake, not that it’s really working but it’s better than standing around and watching. “Look at me, Bella.” Jacob tries.
“We got you Bella. You’re going to be okay.” I repeat.
Rosalie continues to cut, as we continue to try to talk over Bella’s screams, and she gets distracted by Bella’s blood. “Rose, don’t!” Edward yells, moments before Jacob jumps over the table and knocks Rosalie to the ground.
Alice picks her up by her throat and drags her out of the room. “Rosalie! Alex!” Bella panics.
“I’m right here, Bella. Everything is okay.” I try to stay in her line of sight.
“Save her! You’ve gotta change her!” Jacob yells.
“I can’t, not whilst he’s still in there. I gotta get him out first.” Edward tells him, “Alex, help me.”
I move around Jacob to help Edward. “Keep her awake Jacob!” I yell.
As we work to get the baby out, I tune out all the yelling and the screaming. After a few seconds I carefully hand the baby to Edward. “It’s Renesmee.” He holds his daughter, calming her down as she cries.
Edward moves so Bella can see her daughter, Renesmee bites her and he quickly pulls her back. And then I hear her heart stop. “Edward…”
“Alex, take the baby.” He orders, handing Renesmee back to me as Jacob is doing CPR, I quickly wrap her in a towel and turn to walk out, meeting Rosaile.
“Alex, let me take her. Help Edward. I promise I’m okay.” She says.
I look at Edward who nods, while pulling a syringe out of one of the drawers. Handing Renesmee off I walk back, “Is that what I think that is?” I ask, eying the syringe.
“Yes.” Edward answers, injecting Bella with it, straight to her heart.
My eyes widen, “Do I wanna know how you—?”
“No.” He cuts me off, taking over CPR.
“What was that?” Jacob asks.
“My venom.” Edward answers. He starts getting emotional, realizing the gravity of the situation, he stops, “It’s supposed to be working.”
I move to continue CPR. “It’s not working because her heart’s not beating Edward, the venom can’t move through her bloodstream with a heartbeat. We just have to do it for her.”
“I won’t kill you. That’d be too easy. You deserve to live with this.” Jacob snaps at Edward, obviously dealing with his own emotions given the situation as he walks out.
I continue to do CPR as Edward is frozen, panicking. I don’t blame him, there’s nothing he can do for her right now- I mean he could take over CPR but I’m worried he’d accidentally crush her heart from trying so hard. “You're not dead. You're not dead. Come on! No, it will work. It will work. Please, please, please, please. Come back to me, please, baby. Bella, Bella, please, please.” He rambles, before moving around me and biting Bella to introduce more venom into her system.
When I stop to move out of his way he glares at me. “Okay, don’t stop doing CPR on your wife. Got it.” I nod, starting again.
“The wolves, they’re coming.” Edward looks up at me.
“They’ll kill Renesmee.” I breathe out.
“Alice! Jasper!” He calls out to them, “Come on.” He tells me, before placing a kiss on Bella’s forehead.
“We’ve done all we can.” I tell him as we leave the room.
“Hopefully it was enough.” He walks ahead of me.
The four of us go outside, watching as the wolves get closer and closer, “We’re outnumbered.” Jasper points out the obvious.
“By a lot.” Alice adds.
“I won’t let them hurt my family.” Edward says.
“Besides, I didn’t hear either one of you complain when we were outnumbered by Newborns.” I comment, looking between Alice and Jasper.
“That’s because you were the one doing the complaining.” Jasper reminds me.
Edward goes straight for Sam, getting his arms around Sam’s neck. Jasper and Alice try that same method with the others. I’m surrounded by three of them, and I smirk a bit as the memory of when I first came to Forks flashes through my mind. One charges at me, ready to bite my head off as I duct and spin from under their neck, jumping over the back of the second one, kicking him… sending him flying into the other two. “Edward!” I yell, seeing Sam’s paw on his chest, ready to tear him apart.
The wolves take notice of me and come at me one after the other, each one I evade or punch to the side before throwing myself into Sam, wrapping my arms around him and tackling him to the ground. “Leave! My! Family! Alone!” I shout as we roll and I land on top of him, hands on his throat.
That’s when Esme, Carlisle and Emmett come running back to save us. Moments later, Seth and Leah are in the fight too; fighting against their own family to help us. Emmett jumps up into a tree and one of the wolves goes after him, as Emmett punches him down I grab the wolves back legs, forcing his body to slam into the ground. We slowly regroup, making our way backwards up the house steps; starting to realize just how much trouble we’re really in. That’s when Jacob comes running out, getting between us and them, “Stop! It’s over!” Sam lunges forward and Jacob moves in his path, “If you kill her, you kill me!”
Sam plows his way through anyway, sending Jacob flying through the air, he quickly phases and lands behind us; as I take his place blocking Sam. Moments later, Jacob pushes past me, challenging Sam; and that’s when Edward speaks up, “Jacob imprinted.” I look between the two in shock, as he continues. “They can't hurt her. Whoever a wolf imprints on can't be harmed. It's their most absolute law.”
Sam reluctantly stands down, backing off. The other wolves follow.
Throughout the night and into the next morning, Alice, Rosalie, and I clean Bella up and dress her in fresh clothes for when she wakes up. “She shouldn’t be this still.” Edward comments.
“It’s the morphine.” Carlisle tells him.
“Maybe I was too late.” Edward argues.
“No, Edward.” I tell him, “Listen to her heart.”
We all stand around the house, listening to her heartbeat… until it finally stops.
~~Third Person POV~~
(End Credit Scene With Volturi)
Bianca brings Aro, Marcus, and Caius a note on a silver platter. Aro takes it quickly, reading it. “Oh, it’s from Carlisle.” He looks at Bianca, “Which is spelt with an S, sweet Bianca.” He motions for Demetri and Felix, who appear behind her, as he reads the message. “It appears he’s added a new member to his coven.”
“Ah.” Marcus lets out, not necessarily caring.
“Increasing his power.” Caius notices.
Demetri and Felix drag Bianca away as she screams begging for her life, Demetri only half focused on his job as he tries to listen to what the three leaders are saying. “First it’s the spelling, then it’s the grammar.” He hands the message to Marcus.
“At least our dispute with the Cullens is over.” Marcus reads the note.
“Over?” Aro asks, “Goodness, no. Our dispute goes far beyond the fate of a mere human.” He says.
“And what might it be?” Caius asks.
“Why, brother, I thought you understood. They have something I want.” Aro gives a wicked smile.
Demetri, down the hall with Felix, mentally smiles to himself at the thought of seeing Alexandra again; despite the horrible circumstances that he’s grown to hate since he last saw her.
He needs to make up his mind, and quickly. Hopefully before Aro and the others become suspicious of him.

Chapter Text
~~Alex’s POV~~
We all stand around the house, listening to her heartbeat… until it finally stops.
After she opens her eyes and sees the new world around her, taking it all in, Edward quickly realizes that she needs to hunt. While they’re off getting her thirst under control, the family, Jacob, and I stay with Renesmee. When they make their way back, I walk outside with Jacob to meet them. “You’re still here.” Bella realizes as she sees him.
“So are you. I didn’t expect you to seem so you .” He tells her, causing her to smile, “Except for the creepy creepy eyes.” He adds.
I smack his arm before he takes a step closer to Bella, she backs up slightly, “I would keep my distance for now.” She says.
“It’s safer for the baby to see how you do with me first.” Jacob takes another step.
“Since when do you care about Renesmee?” She asks.
Jacob looks at me, before we both look at Edward realizing that Bella doesn’t know that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee. Edward shakes his head, confirming our thoughts. He sighs, taking another step, “Alright. Take a whiff.”
Bella steps closer, taking in Jacob’s scent. “Well, I can see what everyone’s been talking about.” She says, causing Jacob to smile and I let out a chuckle, “Jake, you really do stink.” Causing the guys to laugh.
“You guys, really look great together.” Jacob smiles.
Bella looks at him confused, before looking in my direction. “He’s right.” A slight smile crosses my face, “I’m kind of jealous.”
“You want to come meet our daughter?” Edward asks his wife.
As Jacob runs ahead I walk with the couple, “Soooo… how was your first hunt?” I question Bella.
“It was… interesting.” She answers, as we get to the steps before she stops me, “And thank you. For everything.”
“That’s what family’s for, Bella. I smile, walking ahead of them inside to the family.
We’re all surrounding Rosalie as she’s holding Renesmee. “Welcome to the family.” Esme greets Bella.
“You look amazing, Bella.” Alice compliments, standing with Jasper.
“Someone’s been waiting to meet you.” Carlisle smiles.
“Rose.” Edward calls out.
She turns around holding Renesmee in her arms. Jacob looks slightly panicked as she hands the baby to Bella. In response to being held by her mother, Renesmee presses a hand to Bella’s cheek. After a minute letting go. “What was that?” Bella asks.
“She showed you the first memory she has of you.” Edward answers.
“Showed me? How?” Bella asks.
“How do I hear thoughts? How does Alex track? How does Alice see the future? She’s gifted.” He explains.
“I’ve only been out for two days?” She asks.
“Her growth rate is unprecedented.” Carlisle answers.
Jacob steps past Rosalie, reaching for Renesmee, “Alright. That’s enough experimenting for one day.”
“Jacob.” Edward cuts in, “She’s doing great.”
“Yeah. Let’s not push it through.” Jacob argues, reaching for Renesmee again.
Bella backs off slightly, “What’s your problem?” She snaps at him.
“Ohhh.” I chuckle.
“Oh. Do tell her, Jacob.” Rosalie pushes.
“This should be good.” Emmett smirks in the corner.
I make my way over by him, wanting to stay clear out of the way of Newborn Bella, “Shit’s about to blow up.” I laugh, leaning back against the wall with my arms crossed.
“Hold on a second.” Edward reaches for his daughter, wanting to get her out of the middle of the situation.
Jacob’s heart starts pounding, “Look.” He breathes out, “It’s a wolf thing.”
“What’s a wolf thing?” Bella asks, getting angry, causing Rosalie to take a step back, going to get Renesmee.
The poor wolf is definitely feeling alone now, “Um… you know we have no control over it. We can’t choose who it happens with. And it doesn’t mean what you think, Bella. I promise.”
“Take Renesmee out of the room.” Bella orders, as Edward lays a hand on her shoulder.
“Oh.” Jacob groans, looking back at me like I'm going to save him, I just raise an eyebrow and smirk.
“Edward, don’t touch me right now. I don’t want to hurt you.” Bella says, not taking her eyes off Jacob.
“Oh.” Jacob lets out again as Edward’s hand slides off Bella’s shoulder.
She quickly grabs Jacob by the back of his neck, dragging him out of the house like an aggressive parent would drag their kid by the ear. Jasper’s face says it all as she walks past him, we’re all thinking the same thing… Don’t mess with Bella. She throws him out the door and down the steps. “You imprinted on my daughter?!” She shouts from the top step as we all follow her out.
“It wasn’t my choice!” He argues.
“She’s a baby!” Bella snaps back.
“It’s not like that. You think Edward would let me live if it was?” He continues to argue.
“I’m still debating it.” Edward smirks.
“Hell, even Alex would try to kill me!” Jacob tries.
“He’s got that right.” I laugh.
“I’ve held her once! One time Jacob!” Bella yells, walking down the stairs, “And already you think that you have some moronic wolfy claim on her?” She walks closer to him, “She’s mine!” She punches Jacob, sending him flying to the ground.
“Man, I’d hate to be the guy that actually tries to take Renesmee from Bella… holy cow.” I sigh, taking a half step back as Leah and Seth arrive.
“It’s fine, Leah.” Jacob tells her, getting up and walking backwards.
“You’re gonna stay away from her.” Bella threatens, moving to close the gap between the two.
“You know I can’t do that.” Jacob tries to tell her, resulting in her punching him again, sending him flying.
“Stop her, Edward.” Esme pleads.
“Like we could do anything even if we wanted to.” I smirk.
“Besides, he said it’s fine.” Edward looks back at us, “She’s amazing, right?”
I walk up to him, leaning on the rail, “You’re enjoying this too much.” I point out.
Jacob stands up, “Do you remember how much you wanted to be around me three days ago? That’s gone now, right?” He asks.
“Long gone.” Bella answers, angrily.
“Because it was her. From the beginning it was Nessie that wanted me there.” He tells her.
“Nessie?” Bella questions, “You nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness Monster?!” She goes to hit him again.
Seth jumps in to attack her, probably just wanting to stop her from hurting Jacob, and she throws Seth into the tree behind Jacob. He hits the tree and falls to the ground, I can hear his whimpering from where I’m standing. “Seth!” I call out, slightly panicked that Bella just hurt this kid. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t get along with the wolves very easily but Seth is a sweet kid.
Leah and Jacob run to his side, “Seth, are you okay?” Jacob asks. Carlisle and I start to walk that way, still hearing his whimpering.
“Seth, I’m sorry.” Bella tells him, like that’s the moment of realization she needs to see just how out of hand she can get as a vampire.
“He’ll be alright.” Jacob says as Seth slowly gets up, Leah checking on him. He turns back to Bella, “Bella, you know me better than anyone. All I want is for Ness— Renesmee to be safe. Happy. Look, none of it made sense before. You. Me. Any of it. And now I understand why. This was the reason.”
After all the crazy drama, I decided I need a few hours to myself so I go out to hunt. It’s not unlike me to speed off on my own once everything can finally breathe. After taking down a deer or two I meet everyone back at the house as Alice, Jasper, Emmett, Carlisle, and Esme walk in. “Happy Birthday!” Alice walks up to Bella.
“I stopped aging three days ago.” Bella points out.
“Well, we’re celebrating anyway. So suck it up.” Alice argues.
“Just let her, Bella.” I sigh, “Yours is probably the last birthday we’ll ever celebrate in this house… because we’re all non aging vampires.” I chuckle watching as Alice hands her a key to her’s and Edward’s house.
* * * * * * * * * * *
The next morning Bella and Edward come back to the house. “Wow. Done already?” Emmett asks from his spot at the table, reading the newspaper.
“Where’s Renesmee?” Bella asks, ignoring Emmett.
“Blondie stole her.” Jacob answers, as he watches from the window.
“Break a lot of stuff?” Emmett pushes, an entertaining smirk on his face. I smack his arm.
“Emmett. No.” Bella scolds him. Edward, Emmett, Carlisle and I all chuckle.
“Emmett, my dear brother…” I start as I stand up, walking around him, “Just before those two don’t spend all their time like you and Rosalie, doesn’t mean you can be an asshole.” I chuckle, snatching the paper from his hands and walking away.
“Hey!” He whines, “I was reading that.”
“Not anymore you’re not.” I shout over my shoulder with a laugh.
Then the phone rings, “Is that Charlie?” Bella asks.
“He’s been calling twice a day.” Edward tells her.
“He’s in pretty rough shape.” Jacob adds.
“Eventually, we’ll have to tell him you didn’t make it.” Carlisle explains.
“He needs to mourn, Bella.” I add.
“Okay, we’ll do it tomorrow.” She agrees.
Emmett gets up, walking over by me and snatching the paper from my hands, “I’m gonna miss this place.” He says.
“We’ll come back.” Carlisle assures him, “We always do.”
“Why can’t this crap be as simple as it was in my time?” I groan, throwing my head back, “Back then, my parents didn’t even know that I was missing until like two weeks later. The only evidence that was found… was my blood staining the leaves.”
“How is that simple?” Emmett asks, giving me a confused look.
“Nobody had to say to them ‘ Oh Hey, your daughter is dead. ’ They figured it out themselves.” I answer.
“Your time was weird.” He shakes his head.
“You’re not wrong there.” I agree.
“Wait.” Jacob jumps in, “Nobody said anything about leaving.”
“Once people believe that Bella is dead, we can’t risk anyone seeing her.” Carlisle explains.
“So you just disappear?” He asks.
“Jacob, we don’t have another choice.” Edward argues.
Jacob storms out. A bit later, when he comes back he explains what he did. And it takes everything in me not to choke him out right there… Now we, a bunch of over one hundred year old vampires, have to teach a Newborn vampire… how to act human.
“These will irritate your eyes at first.” Alice tells Bella, placing contacts in her eyes to hide the red.
“Of course it’s going to be irritating, you’re basically putting plastic on diamond… that’s not exactly ideal comfort, Alice.” I tell her.
“The main thing is not to move too fast.” Carlisle says.
“Try taking a seat. Crossing your legs.” Esme adds.
Bella moves across the room, going too fast and slams the chair into the wall. “Maybe a bit slower.” I comment.
“And blink at least three times a minute.” Alice adds. Bella rapidly starts blinking and I throw my head down to hide my smile. “Good.” Alice says.
“For a cartoon character.” Jacob comments.
I smack his arm, “Just because it’s true doesn’t mean it needs to be said aloud.” I tell him, raising an eyebrow.
“Hold your breath. It’ll help with the thirst.” Carlisle advises.
“Just don’t forget to move your shoulders so it looks like you’re breathing.” Edward says from behind me. Bella practices that for a minute before stopping, looking completely uncomfortable.
“And don’t sit so straight. Humans don’t do that.” Rosalie adds.
Bella slouches some and then gets up, “Okay. I got it. Move around. Blink. Slouch.”
“He’s here.” I smile, hearing his car pull up.
“Good luck.” Esme whispers as we leave the room.
* * * * * * * * * * *
Edward, Bella, Jasper, Emmett, and I are standing outside as Charlie leaves. “Well done, Bella.” Jasper compliments.
“Yeah.” I agree, “I’ve never seen a Newborn show that kind of restraint. Even I had a lot of trouble.” I smile.
“I’m not sure she is a Newborn. She’s so tame.” Emmett comments.
I glare at him, confused. “Are you forgetting what she did to Jacob and Seth the other day?” I cross my arms, “You really want to start this?”
“Emmett, don’t antagonize her. She’s the strongest one in the house.” Edward warns him.
“Please.” Emmett smirks, being all cocky.
“Your funeral.” I throw my hands up in defeat, shaking my head.
Thanks to Emmett’s comment, he and Bella are going to arm wrestle. We go to the back yard and he sets up a makeshift table out of boulders. “Don’t hurt yourself, Emmett.” Edward warns.
“Alright. On three.” Jasper says, “One, Two, Three!”
For about half a second it looks like Emmett could win, and then I see just how hard he’s trying and Bella’s barely doing anything, “We gave him enough warning, right?” I ask Jasper. “Like, we tried, right?”
Bella quickly pushes back, slamming his hand down into the rock so hard, the stone breaks to pieces. She backs up, proud of herself, “Did you see that?!” She smiles.
Edward almost falls over laughing. “Nice job, Bella.” I clap.
As her way of celebrating she breaks up the rock, showing off her new strength and just having fun with it, before throwing the biggest part of the rock down.
Over the next few weeks, Jacob and Sam make up; Bella gets a gift from the Volturi; Renesmee keeps growing at an alarming rate, worrying all of us.
After an outing, Bella, Renesmee and Jacob come back to the house where she explains what happened and Carlisle calls Tanya. “Tanya convinced Irina to come and reconcile with us.” Carlisle explains, getting off the phone.
“Seeing Jacob must have been too much for her.” Esme guesses.
“I wish I could have just spoken to her.” Bella sighs.
“She’s family. She’ll come around.” Carlisle smiles.
“Yeah.” I chuckle, “We have nothing but time.” As Edward and Renesmee play the piano together.
We’re all enjoying the music when Alice comes in with a vase of flowers, moments later dropping it. Jasper is at her side in seconds, “What is it, Alice?”
“The Volturi. They’re coming for us. Aro, Caius, Marcus, the Guard. And Irina.” She answers.
Bella pulls Renesmee to her. “Why?” Carlisle asks Alice.
“What did Irina see in the woods?” Edward asks.
“We were just walking.” Bella answers.
“Ness was catching snowflakes.” Jacob adds.
I stand up, “Edward, you don’t think—”
He cuts me off, “Of course. Irina thinks Renesmee's an immortal child.”
“A what?” Bella asks.
We move to the library area to share the history with her, “The lmmortal Children were very beautiful. So enchanting. To be near them was to love them. But their development was frozen at the age they were turned. They couldn't be taught or restrained. A single tantrum could destroy an entire village. Humans heard about the devastation. Stories spread. The Volturi were forced to intervene. Since the Children couldn't protect our secret, they had to be destroyed.” Carlisle explains.
“A few years after I woke up into this life, news had spread fast about one immortal child, in Slovakia, in particular. He was created by Sasha, the mother of Tanya, Kate, and Irina. The Volturi killed her, and the child, in front of the three sisters. Sasha had kept the child’s existence a secret from her daughters to protect them from facing the same fate.” I add, with a sad sigh as I remember Tanya sharing the story with me… knowing that Demetri had a hand in her mother’s death.
“Their creators grew very attached and fought to protect them. Long-established covens were torn apart. Countless humans slaughtered. Traditions, friends, even families, lost.” He continues.
“So the Denalis’ mother made an Immortal Child?” Bella asks.
“Yes. And she paid the price.” Carlisle answers.
“Well, Renesmee’s nothing like those children. She was born, not bitten. She grows every single day.” Bella argues, slightly offended.
“So can’t you just explain that to The Volturi?” Jacob asks.
I let out a loud laugh, quickly covering my mouth with my hand, “Sorry, for a second I forgot you were new here. There’s no explaining anything to them, there’s no escaping them. They take what they want, they do what they want.” I tell him, leaning on the table.
“Aro has enough proof in Irina’s thoughts.” Edward adds.
“So we fight.” Jacob says, completely confident.
I shake my head, “Again, Wolfie, you’re new here so I’ll try to not laugh.” I sigh, “Fighting The Volturi is a death sentence. We’ll all be turned to ash.”
“Their offensive weapons are too powerful. No one can stand against Jane.” Jasper explains.
“Alec’s even worse.” Alice adds.
“Well, then we convince them.” Bella snaps.
“They’re coming to kill us, not to talk.” Emmett jumps in.
“No, you’re right.” Edward argues, “They won’t listen to us. But maybe others can convince them. Carlisle, Alex, you have friends all around the world.”
“I won’t ask them to fight.” Carlisle says.
“Not fight. Witness. If enough people knew the truth, maybe we could convince The Volturi to listen.” Edward clarifies.
Carlisle looks to me, “I say we give it a shot.” I shrug.
“We can ask this of our friends.” Esme adds.
Carlisle agrees, I quickly speed to my room to pack a bag. “Alright, let’s get this show on the road.” I hear Jacob’s voice as I come back into the kitchen, catching Sam standing outside.
We walk out there and he hands Carlisle a note, “Alice asked me to give you that. She and Jasper crossed our lands to the ocean last night.” Sam says.
“Carlisle?” Esme questions as he reads the note.
He looks up at us, “They’ve left us.” He says.
“What?!” I question in shock.
“Why?” Rosalie asks.
“She didn’t say.” He answers.
“Great.” I sigh.
“Can I see that?” Bella asks, Carlisle hands the note to her.
* * * * * * * * * * *
Carlisle, Esme, and I visit my old coven in Egypt. “Ten dollars says he walks away after we even mention The Volturi.” I whisper to Esme as we walk to the door.
She smiles and nods in agreement. Amun opens the door, “Alexandra?” He questions, seeing me.
“Amun.” I smile, walking up to hug him, “Long time no see old friend.”
“Why have you come home? Is everything alright?” He asks as he pulls from the hug, worry in his voice.
I look back at Carlisle who nods, turning back to Amun, “We need your help.” We explain the situation and he walks away. “I knew it.” I groan, quickly following him, “Amun, please!” I beg.
“I cannot help you, Alexandra.” He finally stops and turns to face me.
“I wouldn’t be asking if it wasn’t urgent, Amun.” I plead. “Please.”
“You must go.” He tries to usher us out.
The water next to us starts to move, creating a wall to block the door, I smile knowing who’s doing it. “I’d like to hear about it. I never get to meet many of Amun’s friends. He likes to keep me hidden.” Benjamin says.
“Can’t imagine why.” Carlisle says in amazement.
Benjamin brings the water back down creating a splash, the group backs up to avoid the water and I just stand there and smile. “Benjamin.” I run across the pool, immediately hugging him and Tia.
While I fit in better with Carlisle, Esme, Edward, Bella, Jasper, Alice, Emmett and Rosalie, given our diet of strict animal blood and consider them my family and Forks my home; no one can ever replace the connection I have with Amun, Kebi, Benjamin, and Tia, and Egypt. Amun and I may have had trouble seeing eye to eye over the years, but I wouldn’t have the amazing life I do now if it wasn’t for him.
The seven of us get back to Forks and Renesmee shows them her memory. When she gets to Benjamin he creates a small tornado out of dirt in her hand and spins the tornado up into the air until it disappears. “Benjamin can influence the elements.” Edward tells Bella.
“And here I get super self-control.” Bella chuckles a bit.
I kneel down next to Renesmee watching the tornado disappear, “If you think that’s cool…” I look at her, “…you should see what it’s like when he uses the other elements.” She smiles, “It gets a little unsafe at times, because Benjamin can get out of hand, but it’s really pretty.”
Benjamin looks at me, “I get out of control?” He asks, with an offended smile, “I’m sorry but weren’t all the ideas that went bad yours?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Benjamin.” I laugh, smirking at Renesmee telling her he’s right.
The sound of two vampires running through the trees behind me causes me to stand back up, staying close to Renesmee as Jacob makes his way over from the other side. The two vampires appear from the trees, “Who are they?” Bella asks.
“Senna and Zafrina. From the Amazon.” Edward reads their minds.
Over time, eighteen vampires came into our home. All from around the world, almost all of them having a diet of human blood. Edward and I made sure they wouldn’t hunt in Forks. A few of them even have gifts of their own, which makes me wonder if it’s even safe for them to follow us. Because if Demetri is still completely loyal to The Volturi, as soon as he sees them, he’ll be able to track them down anywhere in the world under Aro’s order. I just hope I’m able to get through to Demetri before Aro makes such orders.
We’re in the back yard as Zafrina shows off her gift. Edward looks around, “If you weren’t holding my hand right now, I could swear this was real.” Edward tells Bella.
“I don’t see anything.” Bella says.
Eleazar walks over to them, “Edward, you didn’t tell me your wife is a shield.” He says.
“What’s a shield?” Bella asks.
Both Edward and I smile. “The ones I’ve met are so different.” He says.
“It’s a defensive talent.” I answer, walking up to the group, “It’s why I can’t track you, it’s why Edward can’t read your mind, even before. It’s why Aro couldn’t, and it’s why Jane’s ability to inflict pain didn’t work on you.” I explain.
“You have a powerful gift.” Eleazar says.
Kate grabs Bella’s hand, using her Psychic Electrokinesis. “Oh, yeah, she’s a shield alright. Shoulda put her on her ass.” Kate let’s go of Bella.
“Or your voltage has been exaggerated.” Garrett challenges.
“Maybe it only works on the weak.” Kate holds out her hand to him.
“Garrett, I wouldn’t.” Carlisle tries.
“Don’t do it, Garrett.” I chuckle.
He touches her hand, causing an electrical charge to flow through his body and knock him to his knees. He looks up at Kate, “You are an amazing woman.”
“Oh god.” I groan, shielding my eyes and turning away. Suddenly I feel something familiar tugging in my mind, and look out into the trees, before running off to track it. “Jacob!” I yell, running past him, trying to catch the two vampires.
Jacob quickly catches up to me, a few younger wolves following us. When he gets close to the two they jump through the trees and I follow, “Vladimir! Stefan! You get your asses over here!” I yell, following them.
They land on the rocks and I land next to Jacob, as they mock him. “Give me one reason why I shouldn’t rip your heads off right now.” I threaten.
“If you could, you would’ve already.” Stefan smirks as Carlisle and the others come running.
“Vladimir, Stefan, you’re a long way from home.” Carlisle points out.
“What are they doing here?” Kate asks.
“I was just getting to that.” I answer her.
“Oh, dear Alexandra, are you still mad at us for trying to give you a home after you left Egypt?” Stefan mocks.
I shake my head, “If by ‘ give you a home ’ you mean creating and sending Newborn vampires after me for years on end so I would join your weak little rebellion then yes I’m still mad at you, Stefan.” I answer him, annoyance in my voice.
“We heard The Volturi were moving against you. But that you would not stand alone.” Vladimir says.
“We didn’t do what we were accused of.” Carlisle informs them.
“We do not care what you did, Carlisle.” Vladimir brushes him off.
“We have been waiting a millennia for the Italian scum to be challenged.” Stefan adds.
“You guys seem to be holding on to a lot of pent up anger, would you like me to recommend a therapist? I hear they’re really well trained nowadays.” I mock him.
Carlisle glares at me, obviously annoyed, because turning back to the pair, “It is not our plan to fight The Volturi.”
“Shame. Aro’s witnesses will be so disappointed.” Vladimir drops on us.
“They enjoy a good fight.” Stefan adds.
Eleazar steps forward, “Aro’s witnesses?” He questions.
“Awww. Still hoping they’ll listen?” Vladimir mocks.
As night falls we all move to the house, “When Aro wants something from a coven, it’s not long before evidence turns up proving that that coven committed some crime.” Eleazar explains.
“So he’s done this before?” Bella asks.
“It happens so rarely, I never realized it was a pattern.” He answers.
“Apparently he always pardons one person whose thoughts he claims are repentant.” Carlisle adds.
“And let me guess…” I cross my arms, “That person always has an ability and is given a place among the Guard?” Eleazar nods.
Edward quickly realizes, “This is all about Alice. He has no one like her.”
“Which is why she left.” Bella adds.
“Why does he need witnesses?” Emmett asks from behind our brother.
“To spread the word that justice has been served. After he slaughters an entire coven.” Alistair answers.
Amun quickly heads for the door, “Benjamin, Tia, we’re leaving.” I step in his way, forcing space between Amun and Benjamin.
“And where will you go?” Edward asks, “What makes you think they'll be satisfied with Alice? What's to stop them from going after Benjamin next? Or Zafrina or Kate or anyone else with a gift? Anyone they want. Their goal isn't punishment, it's power. It's acquisition. Carlisle might not ask you to fight, but I will. For the sake of my family. But also for yours. And for the way you want to live.” He says to the whole room.
There's a moment of silence as we all look at each other. I smirk a bit, proud of my brother, then Jacob stands, “The packs will fight. We’ve never been afraid of vampires.”
The Delani’s stand, “We will fight.” Tanya says.
“This won’t be the first time I fought a King’s rule.” Garrett steps forward.
“We’ll join you.” Benjamin’s voice comes from behind me.
“No.” Amun pleads.
“I will do the right thing, Amun. You may do as you please.” Benjamin tells him, causing me to smile as I move aside.
“We will stand with you.” Senna speaks up.
“So will we.” Siobhan stands with her coven.
Others come forward and Edward looks to me, “You know me.” I chuckle, “I never run from a fight.”
“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.” He says.
“That didn’t take much.” Vladimir whispers to Stefan.
“Oh put a sock in it, Vladimir. I don’t see you giving motivational speeches.” I smirk, rolling my eyes at the pair.
“We’ll see.” Alistair whispers to Carlisle.
Carlisle walks over to me, “Can I have a word with you?” He whispers, gently guiding me out of the room.
“Of course.” I whisper, following his guidance to another room. “What is it?” I ask.
“I’m worried about how you’ll react in a fight.” He says.
“Carlisle, you’ve seen me fight before. I’m just as good, if not better than Jasper.” I tell him, getting slightly cocky.
He sighs, shaking his head. “This is The Voultri.” He says that, like it’s magically supposed to make me understand him.
“Obviously.” I scoff, throwing my hands up as a dramatic gesture to signal to all the vampires in our home.
He sighs, throwing his head back like a parent at wits end with their child, he slowly pinches the bridge of his nose, “This is Demetri.” He clarifies. “You’d be fighting against Demetri.” His voice is quiet.
“And?” I ask, crossing my arms over my chest, forcing myself not to cry as the thought of killing my oldest friend.
I know he’s still in there. I know he’s fighting to get back, I’ve seen it. I can’t give up on him yet, I just can’t. I also can’t just leave my family behind.
“And?” Carlisle asks, mocking me slightly, showing me how childish I’m being by playing dumb. “We might have to kill him. You might have to kill him.”
“I can’t do that.” I whisper, my voice shaking.
“He might not give you a choice, Alex.” He calmly states, resting a hand on my shoulder.
“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.” I repeat Edward’s words.
As time passes through the night and into the morning, we’re trying to come up with a plan in case The Volturi decides to provoke a fight. “Aro will want us incapacitated before he attacks. Jane and Alec will try and take me out first because I can anticipate their moves.” Edward explains.
“And Aro will want to take me out after that, he knows I’m a threat. I’m the only one that can out maneuver Demetri in tracking.” I add, sitting on the couch next to Emmett.
“Too bad we don't all have your shield.” Garrett comments to Bella.
“Doesn't help me fight, though.” Bella sighs.
“No, but you could help the rest of us, if you could project it.” Tanya tells her.
“What do you mean?” Bella asks, confused.
“I mean shield someone other than yourself.” Tanya answers.
“Is that possible?” Bella asks, looking around at all of us.
“Gifts can be developed. Over time.” Carlisle nods.
“Took me a while to figure out mine.” I add. “Initially, I could only track people I had met myself… now I’m able to track second hand.” Bella gives me a confused look and I let out a light chuckle, “If someone came to me and said that they needed me to find their kid, I’d be able to because that person asking me had contact with that kid… I never need to meet the kid myself.”
“At first, mine was just in my palms. Now I can radiate it all over my body.” Kate explains.
“How do you do it?” Bella asks eagerly. Kate doesn’t immediately answer and Bella grabs her hand forcefully, “Tell me.” She says.
“Ow.” Kate mumbles.
I chuckle, “Easy with that Newborn strength, Bella. We’ll help you.”
We all head outside, “You need to visualize it. See how it moves. What color it is. Now picture it expanding. Will it to go beyond you.” Kate explains.
I can see her trying before she stops, “I think she needs something to motivate her.” I smirk, looking between Kate and Edward, who steps forward.
“No.” She says quickly, stepping closer.
“It's all right, I can take it.” Edward assures her.
“He says that now.” Garrett whispers to Emmett.
“Focus, Bella, or he's gonna be hurting.” Emmett says.
“Would you two shut up?” I glare at them, “You’re not helping.”
Edward puts his hand up ready to touch Kate's hand. “Edward, I'm not ready to do this yet.” Bella says, but Kate touches Edward's hand, sending a painful electric shock through him anyway. He quickly falls to the ground in pain right in front of me, “I'm sorry. I said that I wasn't ready.” She says.
“Seriously?” I chuckle, crossing my arms over my chest as I look down at him.
“Dude, you're not motivating her. “ Emmett adds.
Edward looks up at him, irritated and then at me, “You want to try?” He asks us as he gets up, Emmett and I both take a step back with our hands raised.
Bella tries again to use her power and Kate touches Edward, sending another electric shock through his body making Edward scream in pain, “Kate!” Bella yells, stepping forward.
“You seem to lack incentive.” Kate notices, “Shall I go see if Renesmee's awake?” She smirks.
“Are you crazy?!” Bella asks her angrily.
“Alright, this one’s on full power.” Kate holds her hand up to Edward.
Edward gives Bella a worried look and I take a step back and just as Kate is about to touch Edward, Bella manages to bring up her shield and protects Edward from Kate's power when she touches him. “It's painful, but it's bearable.” He says after a minute as Bella’s shield drops from him and Kate removes her hand.
“Okay, we should go again.” Bella smiles proudly.
Edward backs up and stands by me, “Emmett.”
“I'm good…” He says nervously, glancing at me, “Alex.”
I groan, “Hell no.”
Later that night, I’m sitting with Benjamin, Amun, Kebi, and Tia in the living room. “So, how have you been these last few hundred years?” Kebi asks me.
I give her a small smile, my head dropping to look at my lap, “It’s been dramatic to say the least, but I feel like my life is coming together once again.” I answer.
Tia nods, “And Demetri?” She asks.
I scoff, glancing around the room to see Carlisle watching me closely from across the room. “I don’t know.” I admit, “I still have hope but I’m also ready to watch him walk away again.”
“Are you?” Benjamin asks, taking my hands in his.
“He might not give me a choice.” I sigh, pulling from him.
“What are you hoping for?” Kebi asks with a smile.
Thinking for a moment I smile, “I’m hoping I can get through to him, invite him into our family like Carlisle and Esme did for me.”
“What if they don’t let you?” Tia asks worriedly.
Shaking my head as I stand up to leave, “It’s been a while since I went back to Greece… maybe we’ll see what’s left of our families after all these years.” I shrug, walking away.

I never really celebrated the holidays so when Charlie, Bella’s father, invited me to join them for Christmas I didn’t hesitate to say yes. Bella is watching the snow outside when Edward and I walk up to her, “The snow is sticking.” She points out.
“Hey, we still have today.” Edward reminds her gently as he wraps his arm around her.
“Yeah Bella.” I nod, “I checked the whole town last night, they’re nowhere close yet.” I assure her.
“I'm so glad Charlie found somebody to take care of him.” Bella says, watching as Sue helps Charlie in the kitchen.
“Bella, no one's giving up here.” Edward tells her.
“I certainly won’t.” I nod.
Charlie makes his way to the living room where Seth, Leah, Jacob, and Renesmee are waiting. “All right! Present time! Let's go! Seth, Leah, stop eating.” He claps, getting everyone’s attention, “Alex! Come on!” He calls.
“Jake, you start. Get it going.” I smile making my way to the couch.
“What did you get me?” Seth asks Leah.
“I'm not giving you anything.” Leah tells him plainly.
“Hey! No, come on, what did you get me?” Seth pushes.
I shove them apart, smacking Seth upside the head lightly as I sit down between them, “I could just bury a bone in the backyard for you?” I jokingly offer with a chuckle.
Seth rolls his eyes and Leah smiles, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen her smile… It's nice. “Well, Dad, we didn't have time to wrap yours, but here it is.” Bella says as her and Edward walk over, handing him an envelope. “It's a 5-day fishing trip to Fraser River. It's for you and Sue.” She explains as he sits down with it.
“You leave tomorrow.” Edward adds, sitting on the arm of the couch.
“Wow, that's really nice. Thank you.” He says, opening the envelope. “Tomorrow? I can't leave tomorrow.” He tries to argue.
“I made arrangements for you at work.” Sue tells him as she walks in.
“Sneaky.” He looks up at her, “And extravagant.”
“And non-refundable, I'm afraid.” Bella adds.
“You three trying to get rid of me?” He questions us, “Because it's working!” He chuckles happily. “Fraser River. That means we'll be chasing Cutthroat.” He says as Sue moves over to him, sitting in his lap.
“We might even hook a Rainbow or some Bulls.” Sue smiles.
“Woman knows her trout.” Charlie smirks.

We’re in the mountains, the night before the Volturi are supposed to make their appearance, Jacob and I are carrying wood to a fire pit we made, “Benjamin, you gonna make me do this the old fashioned way, or…?” I ask, dropping my logs on the pile.
Benjamin uses his powers to produce fire from his fingertips and throws it on the woods to start a fire, “That's what I'm talkin' about.” Jacob smiles.
“I never get tired of seeing you do that.” I laugh, sitting next to Tia as Benjamin sits on the other side of her and Jacob next to him.
“A little pre-battle bonfire. Telling war stories.” Jacob says as he sits down, looking around realizing everything is just standing around, “Or just standing there like frickin' statues.”
“Hey, Garrett!” I call out, getting his attention, “War story time!” I smirk.
Suddenly he spins in and sits across from them by the fire, “Name any American battle. I was there.” Garrett says proudly.
“Little Bighorn.” Jacob says.
“I came this close to biting Custer. But the Indians got him first.” Garrett sighs.
Just then Kate spins in and sits next to Garrett, his arm wrapping around her, “Try Oleg's assault on Constantinople.”
I smile, “If I remember correctly, He didn't win that one on his own.”
Moments later the Irish Coven comes rushing to the fire, “If you're talking battles, you're talking the Eleven Years' War.” Liam says. “No one does rebellion like the Irish.”
“You lost the Eleven Years' War.” Garrett points out.
“Aye. But it was one hell of a rebellion.” Liam smirks.
Vladimir and Stefan come spinning in next and I roll my eyes as they start talking before everyone else slowly follows, “When we ruled, everything came to us. Prey, diplomats, favor seekers. Such was our power. But we never put on white hats and called ourselves saints.” Vladimir says.
We were honest about what we were.” Stefan adds.
“We sat still for a very long time. We didn't notice we were beginning to petrify.” Vladimir says.
“Perhaps the Volturi did us a favor when they burned our castles.” Stefan adds.
“We've been waiting 1,500 years to return that favor. We have been ready to do battle for ages.” Vladimir says.
As they talk I lock eyes with Siobhan across the fire and signal her to talk to me off to the side, “What is it, Dear?” She asks worriedly once we step away.
A huge sigh leaves me as I look to the ground before looking up at her, “I have no right to ask this of you, but I have to try…” She gives me a confused look, “I’m aware that you have the ability to manipulate the outcome of certain things if you focus hard enough…” I continue nervously.
Siobhan shakes her head, “I don’t know…” She says, “What is it you’re asking for?”
I quickly close my eyes for a moment before looking at the group by the fire then back at her, “Someone I care about is a member of the Volturi… and I figured if you’re going to visualize a non-confrontational encounter you could… maybe… throw in that Demetri is able to have a chance to leave, if he chooses to…?”
“Carlisle asked me to try and now you are… so I’ll see if it works… Besides, what harm can positive thoughts do anyway.” Siobhan smiles, resting a hand on my shoulder.
(A/N: I have no idea how I’m going to write out the Alice Vision Fight scene because the only people that can actually see it are Alice, Aro, and possibly Edward if he was reading her mind— so just go with it, if you’ve made it this far then you’ve probably seen the movie so I’m not too worried)
~~Third Person POV~~
The next day we’re all in a snow covered clearing waiting for the Volturi. I’m with Bella, Edward, and Renesmee; standing behind her as she stands between her parents. “If we live through this, I'll follow you anywhere, woman.” Alex hears Garrett tell Kate, causing her to smile.
“Now you tell me.” She grumbles.
Alex can hear the Volturi getting closer, and she can feel the familiar tugging in her mind from Demetri, “The Redcoats are coming! The Redcoats are coming!” Garrett repeats nervously.
“Garrett!” Alex scolds, looking back at him, “Shut the hell up!”
Suddenly Aro and his army become visible and it's clear that we’re outnumbered a lot. Alex looks back at Siobhan nervously and she gives her a small nod… no matter if this works or not Alex knows she tried. “Aro's looking for Alice.” Edward whispers, reading his mind.
“Of course he is.” Alex groans. Irina comes through with Aro and the guard, “Oh shit…” She whispers, glancing back at the Denali Coven.
Aro and his army stop in their tracks as the Wolf Pack comes out from the trees, howling. Jacob joins them, standing next to Bella while the others stay farther back. Carlisle steps forward, “Aro, let us discuss things as we used to. In a civilized manner.” He tries.
“Fair words, Carlisle. But a little out of place, given the battalion you've assembled against us.” Aro responds coldly.
“I can promise you, that was never my intent. No laws have been broken.” Carlisle tells Aro.
“We see the child. Do not treat us as fools.” Caius interjects.
“She is not an Immortal!” Carlisle yells, “These witnesses can attest to that!” He yells to the group before lowering his voice again, “Or you can look. See the flush of human blood in her cheeks.
“Artifice!” Caius yells.
Aro raises his hand, “I will collect every facet of the truth.” He says, “But from someone more central to the story. Edward, as the child clings to your newborn mate, I assume you are involved.” He steps forward holding out his hand.
Edward slowly walks away and Alex guides Renesmee to stand on the other side of Bella so she’s between her and Jacob, Alex stays behind her. She watches closely, her eyes continually darting in one direction to watch Demetri, hoping she can get through to her best friend like she has in the past. Once across the field Aro takes Edward’s hand and goes through all his thoughts before saying, “I'd like to meet her.”
After a moment Edward nervously turns around and looks back at us, Jacob immediately growling. “Easy Bud.” Alex whisper to him
Bella, Renesmee, and Jacob all take a few steps before looking back at Emmett and Alex, signaling them to come with them. Emmet walks up and Alex follows behind, each taking a spot on either side of Jacob as we move with the group. Jacob steps to the side a bit and Alex moves to be next to Edward, getting as close to Demetri as she can without making it obvious, trying to see if he’s really there. The moment he gives her the smallest smile she relaxes and turns her focus back to Renesmee who’s showing Aro her first memory of her mother. “Magnifico!” Aro whispers in shock, pulling from the child, “Half mortal, half immortal. Conceived and carried by this newborn while she was still human.” He tells his coven.
“Impossible!” Caius snaps.
Jacob growls and Aro glares at Caius, “Do you think they fooled me, brother?” Aro asks, offended.
Jacob snaps at Caius as Edward, Bella, Emmett and Renesmee walk away. Alex looks at Demetri one last time before following him. “Bring the informer forward.” Caius orders. Irina is brought towards Caius and Aro, their witnesses following, “Is that the child you saw?”
“I'm not sure.” Irina answers nervously.
“Jane.” Caius threatens.
Irina speaks up quickly, “She's changed. This child is bigger.” She says.
“Then your allegations were false.” Caius points out coldly.
“The Cullens are innocent. I take full responsibility for my mistake.” She says, “I'm sorry.” Her voice barely above a whisper as she looks at her sisters.
“Caius, no!” Edward yells, having read his mind.
“Demetri, don’t!” Alex cries out before she can stop herself as he’s about to hand Caius a flaming touch.
Felix then steps forward and hits Irina and snaps her head off. “Irina!” Tanya yells.
Upon hearing her voice Demetri takes a noticeable step back with the torch in hand, questioning what he’s doing but Caius rips it from him. Caius then sets fire to the rest of Irina's body, Kate and Tanya scream and run towards Aro and his army, Garrett gets hold of Kate, she uses her power to electrocute him, Edward then turns to Zafrina, “Blind them.” He tells her.
“Give me my sight back.” Tanya orders as Edward walks up to her.
“Tanya, this is what they want.” He whispers. “If you attack now, we'll all die.”
After a moment Zafrina gives them their sight back and Edward makes his way back over to us. “Pain.” Jane says, using her power and bringing Edward down in pain, but Bella manages to use her power to shield him, he gets up and walks towards his wife.
“It's working.” Alex realizes, “Holy shit, it’s working.”
Jane looks around at everyone, trying to bring pain to each of them, Bella’s shield stopping her. She realizes her powers are useless against Bella’s shield, then Alec steps forward and tries to use his deadly vapor but Aro stops him. “Aro, you see there's no law broken here.” Carlisle speaks up.
“Agreed.” Aro nods, “But does it then follow that there is no danger?” He asks, stepping forward, slowly turning towards his coven, “For the first time in our history humans pose a threat to our kind. Their modern technology has given birth to weapons that could destroy us. Maintaining our secret has never been more imperative. In such perilous times, only the known is safe. Only the known is tolerable. And we know nothing of what this child will become. Can we live with such uncertainty? Spare ourselves a fight today, only to die tomorrow.”
Sometimes tells Alex to look over her shoulder and she does, only to see Jasper and Alice coming through the trees, “Alice.” She whispers
“Alice!” Aro smiles as the couple walk up to him. “My dear, dear Alice, we're so glad to see you here, after all.” Demetri and two other guards quickly stop them, but when he sees Alex watching him closely he eases up a bit, not wanting to hurt them but also still wanting to appear like he’s doing his job.
“I have evidence the child won't be a risk to our kind.” Alice tells him, “Let me show you.” She offers her hand.
“Brother?” Caius wants to argue.
Aro signals the guard to let her go and Alex smirks as Alice forcefully pushes past Demetri. Alice walks up to Aro and he takes hold of her hand, as Aro reads her thoughts.
~Alice’s Vision- Fight Scene~
Alice quickly realizes, “It doesn't matter what I show you. Even when you see.” She pulls her hand away, “You still won't change your decision.” She turns to the Cullens, “Now!” She whispers.
Bella looks at Renesmee who's sitting on top of Jacob, then she looks at Jacob, “Take care of my daughter.” She whispers.
“Go.” Alex whispers, “I’ll meet you if I can.” She tells Jacob before he quickly runs off.
Caius sees them, “Get them!” He tells one of the guards.
Suddenly Alice attacks Aro, sending him flying, but he manages to land back down and when he does two guards grab her forcing the Cullens and their witnesses to step forward, ready to fight. The Volturi respond by doing the same, causing the wolf pack to growl in a warning. “Take her away.” Aro orders.
As they drag her back both her and Jasper fight against the guards holding them, “Let her go!” Carlisle yells out, speeding towards Alice.
A few guards move it to try and stop him but he flips them on their backs and keeps going, not even being slowed down. He’s met mid-air by Aro who rips his head clean off before landing back into the snow, Carlisle’s body landing behind him, where Caius sets fire to it. “Nooo!” Alex screams out, quickly taking the lead as the run towards the Volturi.
The wolves start to follow but Sam forces them to wait until Aro signals his guard and witnesses to fight. Everyone holds their own alright, Alex included, but the moment she sees Jasper in trouble with Jane and noticing Demetri is close by, she bolts straight for her. It forces her focus off of Jasper and onto Alex, who knew she wasn’t going to get very far before Jane’s pain illusion took over her mind and her body falls into the snow with a heartbreaking scream as the feeling of being burned alive spreads. The moment doesn’t go unnoticed by Demetri, all the influence the Volturi have on him is suddenly gone and shattered; the only thing on his mind is stopping her pain. He doesn’t hesitate to speed up to Jane, and because he’s a member of the guard she has no reason not to trust him… until he rips her head off and tosses it as far away as he can.
Once Jane’s body hits the snow and her head is gone, he makes his way over to Alex and helps her up, “Are you alright, Love?” He asks worriedly.
She chuckles and scoffs, shaking her head, “Took you long enough to come back to me.” She smiles. Having watched his sister get killed by someone he thought he could trust, Alec rushes at Alex and Demetri, “Look out.” She whispers, watching Alec come up behind him. She pushes Demetri out of the way and kicks Alec back so hard he slides across the snow and straight into Emmett who rips his head off.
Next Alex and Demetri take out the guards holding Alice, “Thanks.” She says quietly, nervously looking at Demetri.
“He’s okay.” Alex assures her, “Go.” When Alex turns around she sees Felix has his arms around Seth’s neck, “Seth!” She yells, running for him.
She jumps over the wolf, feet first kicking Felix off him and into Demetri who’s waiting. With Seth free, Demetri grabs one of Felix’s arms and Alex grabs the other, allowing the Wolf to rip his head off. She takes a moment to look across the field; Bella is in trouble, Edward is in trouble, Garrett is in trouble, and the Wolf’s are getting their asses kicked. She grabs ahold of Demetri’s hand, her fingers interlacing with his as she looks for Benjamin, “Benjamin!” She calls out when she finds him, “Let’s open this up a bit, shall we?!” She smirks.
Benjamin smiles and slams his fist into the ground, uses his powers to create a chasm in the earth, allowing everyone to throw members of the Volturi to their deaths. Alex does another scan of the field, seeing Esme and Leah in trouble. “Demetri, go help Leah… I need to help Esme.” She says about to run off.
“Which ones Leah?” He asks quickly.
Alex chuckles a bit, “The white wolf with two of your guys on her back, get them off her.” She rolls her eyes before speeding off to Esme. Alex grabs the guard, pulling him off her as they’re both about to fall into the earth. Esme grabs ahold of Alex’s leg to keep herself above the ground as Alex drops the guard to his death. “You okay?” Alex asks as she pulls Esme to her feet.
Before Esme can answer Leah and Demetri catch Alex’s eye, “Shit!” She groans, seeing Leah about to kill him, “Leah, don’t!” She yells jumping over the chasm, getting between the two, “He’s with me.” Leah growls, “Okay, I don’t know what that means but considering he just saved you can you give him some credit?” Leah growls again. Alex sighs, “He helped me save Seth.” Leah immediately stops, calming down and running off to keep fighting. Alex rolls her eyes looking at Demetri, “Remind me to get you a change of clothes when this is over.” She sighs, running off.
As the earth continues to open up, Edward starts to fall in, “Alexandra!” Demetri calls out, signaling Edward's situation.
Alex moves over to him, knocking down guards as she goes, before Edward can fall too far she grabs his hand, pulling him up until he has a firm grip on safe ground and can pull himself out, all while sending the guard he was fighting into the earth below. The fighting continues until Aro and the wives are left, as he makes his way across the field to Edward Bella quickly jumps in and right behind them are Demetri and Alex; all having their own reasons for wanting Aro destroyed. Aro sends Bella flying back into Edward, opening the door for Demetri and Alex to attack but they’re quickly shoved aside one at a time, Alex having landed in the snow next to Demetri looks at him, “Is this how you imagined our reunion?” She asks.
“Not in the slightest.” He admits as they stand up.
Edward grabs Bella, picking her up and spinning her around at Aro, allowing her to kick him back, knocking him off balance and he spins around to regain it only to have Demetri throw Alex in his direction, allowing her to kick him down. Before he can fall backwards into the snow, Edward comes up behind him, wrapping him in a chokehold as he starts to rip off Aro’s head but he quickly slips from Edward’s hold, twisting his arms and pinning them to his chest while his free hand tries to get a grip on his head. Demetri comes in from the side and grabs one on Aro’s arms, Alex comes in from the other side and grabs his other arm before Bella jumps on Aro’s shoulder and grabs his head. As all three of them pull to make sure Aro is pulled apart, Edward backs up to get a running start before kicking around legs out from under him and into the snow before stepping on his back as Bella rips his head off and Alex and Demetri take his arms off.
The last thing Aro sees is Bella bringing a touch to his face while Edward, Alex, and Demetri fight off the rest of the Volturi that are trying to save him.
~End of Alice’s Vision- Fight Scene~
Alice pulls her hand from Aro and he looks around realizing it was all in his head. He looks at Alex and then Demetri before looking back at Alex causing her to realize that he knows, “Now you know. That's your future. Unless you decide on another course.” She warns him.
“We cannot alter our course. The child still poses a grave threat.” Caius argues.
“That’s not the only thing.” Aro growls, looking at Demetri as the tracker slowly steps back.
Alex steps forward, not liking where this is going. “Are you sure you want to do that?” Alice smirks at Aro threateningly.
Edward chuckles looking at Alex with a slight nod. She immediately smiles, “Demetri…” Her voice barely above a whisper as she holds out her hand to him.
He hesitates, fear crossing his face as he looks at Aro. “Go.” He snaps angrily and reluctantly knowing that if he doesn’t his whole coven dies, “Before I change my mind.” He adds, wanting to appear like he’s making the choice on his own.
Demetri doesn’t hesitate to speed across the field and pull Alex into an extremely tight hug, surprising everyone around them.
“What if you were sure she could remain concealed from the human world? Could we leave in peace?” Edward asks after a moment.
“Of course. But that cannot be known.” Caius answers.
“Actually, it can.” Edward smiles as Alice turns to face him.
“I've been searching for witnesses of my own among the Ticuna tribes of Brazil.” Alice explains as two more witnesses come and stand by her.
“We have enough witnesses.” Caius snaps.
“Let him speak, brother.” Aro scolds.
“I am half human, half vampire. Like the Child. A vampire seduced my mother, who died giving birth to me. My aunt Huilen raised me as her own. I made her immortal.” Nahuel explains.
“How old are you?” Bella asks.
Nahuel turns to her, “150 years.” He answers.
“At what age did you reach maturity?” Aro asks curiously.
“I became full-grown seven years after my birth. I have not changed since then.” Nahuel answers.
“And your diet?” Aro asks.
“Blood, human food. I can survive on either.” Nahuel says.
“These children are much like us.” Marcus realizes.
“Regardless, the Cullens have been consorting with werewolves. Our natural enemies.” Caius points out, looking for a reason to fight.
Aro turns to him and shakes his head lightly, “Dear ones, there is no danger here. We will not fight today.” Aro says to his coven. Some of the Volturi look disappointed, including Caius and Jane, but they all listen to Aro and quickly leave, then before leaving Aro looks at Alice, Bella, Demetri, and Alex. “Such a prize.” He whispers before speeding off.
Vladimir and Stefan walk up to Carlisle as he walks back to be with his family, “We have them on the run. Now is the time to attack.” Vladimir insists.
“Not today.” Carlisle smiles.
“You're all fools!” Stefan warns them, “The Volturi might be gone. But they will never forgive what happened here.” He glares at Alex and Demetri, “They will never forget.” He says coldly before the two leave in anger.
Everyone laughs at the two before celebrating the fact that they didn’t need to fight, “So…” Alex smiles, wrapping her arms around Demetri’s neck as his hands rest on her sides, “Is this how you imagined our reunion?” She asks.
“Not in the slightest.” He admits, “But there was always this part…” He smiles, one hand moving up to hold her face as he pulls her into a gentle kiss.
“That there is.” She smiles when they pull apart.
Back at the Cullens house, the witnesses are saying goodbye and leaving, Edward and Jacob watch Renesmee as she speaks to Zafrina and Senna. While Demetri and Alex are talking with Amun, Benjamin, Tia, and Kebi. “Are you happy to be rid of those?” Tia asks, seeing the folded Volturi robes in Demetri’s hands after Alex got him some regular clothes.
Demetri nods, “I’m not quite rid of them though, am I?” He smiles, looking at Alex before looking down at the robes, “Benjamin, would you care to do the honors?” He asks, handing the clothes over, wrapping his free arm around Alex’s waist, her head resting against his chest.
Benjamin smiles, “With pleasure.” Taking them in his hands, taking a few steps away from the group before the fabric bursts into flames and instantly becomes ash.
“Now all we have to do is get you accustomed to animal blood.” Alex smiles.
Demetri throws his head back and groans, “Do I have to…?” He whines.
“Yes.” She nods, quickly kissing his cheek, “You do, and you’ll do just fine.”
“I love you, Alexandra.” He whispers.
“I love you, too Demetri.” She breathes out happily.
Just then Emmett comes walking through with Rosalie, “I thought you only went by Alex.” He smirks.
She shakes her head in amusement, leaning against Demetri, “He’s the exception.”
Emmett smirks, “You two are gonna be worse than us, aren’t you?” He asks, pulling Rosalie closer to him as she lightly smacks him for his comment.
“Oh shut up.” Alex rolls her eyes, “Don’t you two have a bed to destroy or something?”
