Christmas redux

Tony walked across the factory grounds glad that no one else was around. His hands were shoved in his pockets as snow began to fall. He frowned as he tried to work out what had just happened. He sighed. Bren was married. She had never said. He ran a hand over his face as he tried to make sense of what was happening.

"You wanted to see me." The burly man stood in front of Bren as she nodded. The Christmas tree the only lights still on in The canteen.

"Yeah. Yeah I did."

"To show off the new fella!" Martin glared. Bren shrugged her shoulders.

"No, not intentionally. Tony was ere. I was ere and then you showed up. I want a divorce. We've been separated for ages. It's about time we made it more formal."

"So you can marry that bloke." Martin glared. Brenda narrowed her eyes.

"If he asks me. Which he hasn't. I'm 42. I'm still fairly young and I want to live my life. And you can get on with your life." She turned away as he grabbed her arm. Bren pulled back, the rip in her coat reminding her how strong Martin could really be. She glared at the torn fabric, then at the man she had once known. "I'm not scared of you anymore. Not now."

"Yes. We've not been married properly for years and we never will be again. I'm going to get a divorce. I thought it was polite to let you know."

Martin glared before swearing and marching out of the Room. Bren watched him go before letting her tears fall.

"Pint please." Tony asked the barmaid as she smiled warmly. He perched on the stool at the end of the bar. Moments later she returned with the Pint Of bitter.

"There you go."

"Thanks love." He handed her the money. His eyes stared at the bottom of the glass trying to work out what was going on.

"Whatever is troubling you, the answer isn't at the bottom of a beer glass." She tapped his hand before turned to the next customer. Tony sighed, he knew she was right. He frowned as he realised the man next to him was Bren's husband.
