Loki and Mobius were the couple that no one expected to ever see together and yet no one in the TVA was unaware that they were a couple and even went so far as to root for them.
When newcomers were surprised to learn that the two men were a couple, they only had to see the two men interact to know the nature of their relationship.
It wasn't the public displays of affection or the words they might exchange, no, Loki and Mobius weren't the type to flaunt it in a professional setting, but it was their attitude, the sort of harmony that emerged when the two men walked side by side, the glances and smiles, discreet but undeniable, the good observer could even hear the shift in the tone of their voices when they spoke to each other.
Even if the beginnings of their relationship could not have led one to believe that, they had been living together for more than a year and the depth of what bound them left no doubt to those who were part of their close circle.
Despite their differences, they had managed to live together without any major clashes, their complementarity doing the rest.
After all this time Loki had no doubt about his feelings, which had only grown with time. He loved Mobius, the man who put up with his temper, his stubbornness, his anger, his ego and all his insecurities like no one else had before. The man who had been able to give him as much love as Loki had to give.
Lost in his thoughts and memories, Loki had not seen the time pass and had almost finished the meal without realizing it.
Making dinner, it was strange that even after a year, the simple fact of preparing a meal for his lover, brought him more joy than doing any other magic trick.
Mobius was busy with the management of the TVA and often came home later than Loki, who preferred fieldwork.
And tonight was no different, but tomorrow was a day of rest, so they would have some time to themselves.
Loki was finishing setting the table when he heard Mobius come in.
"Loki, I'm home." Mobius said softly, then taking off his shoes and coat, he added, " Finally home."
He joined Loki in the kitchen, kissed him softly, and sat down at the kitchen counter, the exhaustion of the workday slowly fading away in the face of the domesticity of the scene. There was something soothing about watching Loki prepare the meal.
"Exhausting work day huh?" Loki picked up a plate, filled it and gently placed it in front of Mobius. He was a pretty good cook, according to Mobius, who, though a bit reluctant at first, now willingly played guinea pig for Loki's culinary trials.
Loki then sat down at the counter beside him, their knees and arms brushing against each other as they both heartily attacked their dinner.
Mobius replied as he pointed his fork at Loki, "It was tiring but the satisfaction of a day's work made up for it and..." he put down his fork and turned to Loki, who looked at him in puzzlement. Mobius stroked his cheek softly before continuing, "Finding you home after a day's work, eating the food you prepared for me, made up for it even more."
Loki saw the smile on his lover's face and couldn't help but smile himself. He loved that smile that Mobius only had for him, the same smile since the first day. The little wrinkles around his eyes, the corners of his mouth that rose slightly making his cheeks lift while keeping his lip tight, so soft. What Loki felt at this moment was exactly the same as the very first time Mobius had smiled at him, even if at that time it was out of question to give these feelings the name of love.
However, today Loki knew that he loved the man at his side with all his heart, more than he could ever have imagined. Every time he saw Mobius smiling, smiling at him, he felt a kind of pride in being both the recipient and the reason for that smile, and he did everything he could to elicit those smiles again and again.
"Hm? What? Do I have something on my face?" asked Mobius, snapping Loki out of his reverie, turning to him. Loki leaned towards him and replied, "Yes, that." while tracing Mobius' lips with his fingertips, which parted under the caress. Loki approached again, waiting for the slight flush on Mobius' cheeks, because even after a year he was still not used to Loki's compliments.
Loki closed the distance between them and gently kissed Mobius.
When they caught their breath a little later, having moved to the living room and snuggled together on the couch, Mobius said softly, a smile in his voice, "I didn't know my lips had this effect on you Sweetheart."
Loki looked up, kissed Mobius' smile and resting his head on his lover's chest, he replied, "Not just your lips love, your smile, the smile you have only for me. I don't think I'll ever get enough of that smile. I'll do anything to make sure you have that smile on your lips all the time."
Mobius chuckled softly and replied, "But the magic Loki, is that you don't have to do anything, have to say anything to make me smile like that, you just have to be you. If I wasn't afraid of looking silly, I'd smile like that all the time with you."
This time it was he who leaned over and kissed Loki's dumbfounded face.
Seeing Loki's lack of reaction and unusual silence, Mobius leaned over to get a better look at his face. This time it was Loki who had slightly pink cheeks and an astounded smile on his face.
Happy to be the one responsible for this smile, Mobius lifted Loki's head and hurried to taste it.
