A Lot Happened

Work Text:

Hawkeye’s point of view:

I know this is wrong.

I shouldn’t have done that thing with BJ.

It started with dancing, then drinking, and next thing I know, we’re entangled in each other.

He’s married for god’s sake. I should’ve known not to do that. I hope Mulcahy doesn’t mind me waking him up. I feel bad due to it being Sunday.

Mulcahy’s point of view:

Four o’clock in the morning on a Sunday. Not my ideal time to be awake, but it’s Hawkeye, so it’s understandable. Heaven only knows what’s wrong with him at this hour. Then again, it’s never been anything like this.

“Father, I’m sorry.”

“For what, my son?”

“I slept with Bj.”

I wasn’t expecting Hawkeye to be so scared. I’ve seen this before, but never in the army.

“I’m sorry, Father.”

Hawkeye started crying. I handed him the tissues.

“Hawkeye, you’re in a war with men and you have needs.”

“Father, he’s a married man! I just slept with a married man. A happily married one at that! How can I go to sleep at night knowing what I’ve done?!”

“Easy Hawkeye, did he initiate it?”

“Well, yes. But-“

“There’s no ‘but.’ If he initiated the act, it’s not your fault.”

“It takes two to tango, father.”

Unfortunately, I knew he was right. I just couldn’t flat out tell him, but there’s a war, both parties have…needs, and there’s just a lot to it.

“Okay, tell you what, since your agnostic, I can’t tell you how many “Hail Mary’s” you need to do, but I can tell you that if it happens again, it’s okay. Just as long as Peg doesn’t find out.”

“A-are you sure?”

“Yes, my son.”

Hawkeye’s point of view:

I slept with BJ, who’s married. I could sleep due to that thought running through my head. He’s married! Happily! How could I just do that?! I told Father Mulcahy, and he said that it was, “understandable” since “there’s a war and we have needs” and this and that. I just didn’t know what to do. I still don’t. I need sleep, but how do you sleep with all of this happening at once? I don’t know how Margaret and Frank kept this up for so long. I guess I’ll console myself in the morning. For now, I need sleep.

BJ’s point of view:

I just slept with my best friend. It was amazing. I waited a long time for that to happen, and it was well worth the wait. That was, until I looked at my left hand. I’m married. I have children, and my wife doesn’t even know about this. Of course, she won’t find out if I keep my mouth shut, and don’t write about it, but I feel mixed ways. First off, yes I love my wife and kids, but am I truly happy? Not really, but I need to be there for them. Secondly, I love Hawkeye. I really do. I’ve loved him since I’ve met him, but it always felt forbidden. I could never tell him. What would happen if I did, and he didn’t feel the same? I’d be besides myself. I decided that the best thing to do was to tell Mulcahy my thought process.

Father Mulcahy’s point of view:

After Hawkeye left, a few hours later BJ came by. He told me that he really loved Hawkeye, but he wanted to be there for his kids. I tried to see what he meant, and then he told me that he really wanted Hawkeye. I sat there and stared at him.

“BJ, my son, you mean to tell me that you love Hawkeye more than Peg?”

“I believe so, father. He’s just an amazing man, and I’ve adored him for a long time.”

“BJ, Hawkeye came in here, near tears, terrified of the act that he committed with you, and now you’re telling me that it was out of love? I don’t know what to say, but go after him.”

I saw BJ’s eyes get wide, and he ran out, but came back with Hawkeye, but Hawkeye looked rather displeased to be here

“Tell this man exactly what I said.”

“No, father. Tell him! Exactly what I said!”

This turned into an argument, and I had just about enough of them. I broke a glass, and kindly asked them to sit down.

“Hawkeye, BJ’s in love with you more than he’s in love with his wife, but feels as though he has to stay married due to his kids.”

“BJ, Hawkeye feels horrible after the act that you two did due to him thinking that he broke up your marriage.”

They both looked at each other with their mouths wide open, and eyes just as wide.

They both burst out into a fit of laughter, and hugged one another. They both left my quarters hand in hand, and BJ said that he’d tell Peg that he can’t be married to her anymore. Hawkeye smiled, and off they went. I decided that it was time for me to get some actual sleep before doing service. I heard that BJ told Peg everything, and that it was a mutual understanding. He was to be divorced within a week to two weeks. At least they all got their wishes, and that everything turned out to be fine.
