Gone Baby Gone

Chapter Text

"I just want my son!" Olivia Benson dropped down to her chair and let her close friend Rafael Barba pull her into his arms. "Breathe Liv. Everything will work out."

She was no longer listening to the Barba. She was up making her way to her office door.

"What the hell happened? Why did it take you so long to call me?" Olivia pulled away tears streaming down her face. "I let this woman in our lives and then she kidnapped our kid." She muttered angrily. "Baby I..."

"NO!' She yanked her arms out of his grasp. "I know you think this is my fault. You're the one who told me that we shouldn't trust her too fast and I didn't listen!"

"Liv..." Elliot grabbed her head; she tried to shake his hands off but he tightened his grip. "Listen to me. I don't blame you for this. We are going to get through this and we're gonna find him and bring him home ok? The kids are at the house and we're gonna have a whole weekend to ourselves just the eight of us."

"This is it? Are you sure?" Elliot squinted leaning over Olivia as he looked out the taxi window. "Yeah, I think so." She pulled on the handle and opened the door. "Liv wait." Grabbing her elbow he pulled her to him slightly. "Be careful okay? I'm gonna go around the side to back ok?" Nodding she gave him a quick kiss and stepped out of the taxi. She watched Elliot make his way around the right side of the house. She pulled out her service gun and walked to the front door. Pushing it open she slowly walked in but something hit the back out her head and she was down.

Watching the gun slide across the floor she grabbed the back of her head.

Groaning she looked up at Shelia and took a deep breath. "I wasn't going to hurt you, Shelia."

"Cut the crap. You were coming to take my baby." She glared up at her still on the ground.

"He's not your baby."

"We'll see." Growling slightly she slowly began to raise herself off the floor. "Where's Noah, Shelia?"

Shelia glared as if she had two heads. "What do you think? He's sleeping."

Elliot slowly made his way around the house when something caught his eye. He made his way to the window and pushed it up praying it was open. When it pushed up he silently thanked god and pulled himself up and inside the bedroom. Making his way to bed he kneeled himself to the ground. "Noah wake up."

"Daddy?" Elliot put his finger to his mouth but pulled him up and lifted him out of the bed. "Let's play the quiet game okay?" He watches Noah shake his head excitedly. "Just give me a second ok?"

He made his way to the door and slowly but quietly opened it.

"I just want to see him." Elliot watched Olivia slowly pick herself off the ground. "NO!"

Shelia walked towards angrily with her hands tightly gripped on Olivia's gun.

"I'm his mother Shelia."

"Why? Cause the judge signed a piece of paper? That doesn't make you his mother." He takes a deep breath and refrains from walking it out there and letting this woman have it.

"Actually..." Taking a deep breath she squints her eyes and nods her head. "Actually, Sheila, it does."

"NO! He is my blood, my family." The two women stood in silence glaring at each other until this psycho opened her mouth. "He will never be a part of you the way he is a part of me."

"Blood isn't the only thing that makes families Shelia. Legally Noah is my son."

"The law says I would've received notice. If you followed the law we wouldn't even be here."

"Shelia, Shelia, I am the only mother that he knows. Listen to me. Have you ever thought about what this would to him?"

"He's a smart boy. He'll adapt. This is a much better place for him. There's fresh air, he can play in the woods. This is how you raise a boy. Better than that filthy, dirty city. And you? You're at work all the time."

Tilting her head she nodded but held her ground. "And his father? He's home with him. Every day, every day."

"No, NO! I will be here for him."

"I am here for him. Come on, Shelia. You know me. I won't let that happen."

He could see Shelia's body language get tenser. "I'm not a bad person, Olivia. I'm trying to let you go." But Olivia was going down. "I can't do that."

"Why. You could just get another little baby. You can sign another piece of paper. You can adopt another little boy who needs a family."

Getting tired of hearing this he slowly closed the door and made his way back to Noah. "Hey, buddy guess what?"

"I have a surprise for you. Mommy's here. Right outside in the living room. Go see." He didn't even get to finish his sentence before Noah was off the bed and out the door.

"MOMMY!" He waited a moment before following. "Noah! Come here."

"Mommy you made it!" He watched Shelia slide the gun on the desk behind him and turn towards the mother and son. Olivia picked up Noah and made her to the door. She opened the door and pushed Noah out before slamming the door." Shelia however right behind grabbed her and he went straight for them. Pulling her off of Olivia he pushed her against the couch. He backed up a little and let Olivia cuff her.

Sitting in the ambulance he watched Olivia put Shelia in the patrol car before making her way over to them. "Well, I'm about ready to go home. How about you?"

"Yes. Daddy told me everyone's at home waiting for us..." He dropped his head down a little before lifting it back up. "He also said I won't be seeing grandma Shelia anymore. Is she bad?" She looked up at him and Elliot and grabbed his hands. "No Noah. She is a good person who did a really bad thing. But guess what. Uncle Sonny and Aunt Amanda are going to drive us home and we can go get pancakes on the way. Right daddy?" Noah turned his head and watched his father nod before smiling wide. "Yay."

"Okay now go be a good boy and go to Uncle Sonny." She helped him out of the ambulance before turning to Elliot. He pulled her into his arms and she just let it all out. He let her sob silently against his shoulder before he slightly pulled back. "Liv, nothing she said back there was true. You have a whole family waiting back home for you; blood or not. Tell me you know that." Nodding she laid her head back on his shoulder. "I know."

It was faint but it was enough for him. Come on. Let's go home."

"Daddy, I'm tired. I can't hang." Both Olivia and Elliot laugh but Amanda and Carisi just looked in the rearview at the family. Noah lays his head on his father's lap with his feet in his mother's. "If there's something you two have to say then say it." Both detectives looked at each other than at the rearview mirror. "Liv. Noah calls him dad. We never even heard of this guy from you or Noah. All we know is that he is your ex-partner and what we've heard from Fin and everyone else. Like how he left you with no explanation but now all of a sudden he's here." Laughing she dropped her head slightly and laughed silently. "I could've sworn I was turning 50 in a couple of months. Didn't realize I still had to answer to people. Not that's any of your business but we've been together for seven years. Ok. Now can we please focus on getting home?"

"Yeah but Liv I..." Taking a deep breath she turned around to look into the back "why haven't we heard anything about this." The two women glared at each other while the men sat in silence. "I haven't stepped foot into the precinct since the shooting that took place all those years ago well until I found out Noah was kidnapped. Haven't held a gun either and I've been too ashamed to talk to anyone but Liv, Don, and Munch. She's been trying to get me to at least come and meet everyone and I've was planning on surprising her but then this happened."

"Wait really?" He nodded and leaned over to met her halfway. Their lips connected and she smiled in the kiss. Placing her hand on his face she pulled away with a smile on her face.

"OLIVIA MARGARET BENSON! WHAT IS THAT ON YOUR FINGER!?" She pulled her hand down from Elliot's face and let out a sigh. "We got married a couple of years ago."

Chapter Text

"What do you mean she got married? Married to who? ELLIOT STABLER? No, no way. You're lying;" Letting out a sigh Olivia snatches the phone out of Amanda's hand. "She's not lying. I am indeed married."

"To Elliot Stabler? The man who up and left you. With no warning. C'mon Liv."

"Need I remind you that I don't owe you any explanation. I don't owe any of you an explanation so goodbye to you and can you keep quiet the rest of the drive. Thank you." She drops the phone into Amanda's lap and turned to look out her window.

It was when they got home that all hell breaks loose.

"Liv, maybe you should invite them over. So, we can you know explain ourselves." She dropped the spoon she was using the stir sauce into the pan. "Why? I'm grown, I'm married, and I have kids;" She takes a deep breath and walks towards. "I shouldn't have to explain myself to them." Sitting down at the table he grabs her hand and pulls her towards him. "Liv, It's been 7 years."

"You don't think I know that! I kept it from them for you! I hide my life for you! I hide the fact that I have not one but two kids for you! I gave birth and none of them knew for you! So don't sit there and tell me it's been seven years because trust me I know."

"For me?! You hide all that for me?! I was afraid to face them and I told you that but the moment I got on my knee to propose to you all that went out the window! I wanted to come clean! I wanted the people who you came to call family watch us walk down the aisle but you didn't want that! The only one who knew was Cragen and only because you needed the days off for the honeymoon;" Dropping his head in his hands he rubbed his eyes before looking back up to her. "I don't get it Liv. Are you embarrassed by me be- because of what I did?"

"NO, NO. How could think that? I love you. You know I love you." Cupping his face in her hands she leaned down so her forehead connected to hers. "I've done a lot of things in my life that I regret or am embarrassed about. Marrying you, having this life with you is not one of them and never will be one of them. Okay?" He nodded as tears spilled out. "I love you so much."

"Mommy! I missed you!" She pulled away and kneeled on the floor. "Fina! Oh, I missed you! Did you have fun at grandpa's?"

She nodded her head hard; "Yes, but I missed you, mommy!"

"Hey! What about me?" Fina pulled away and turned to Elliot. "I missed you too I guess."

Elliot fake grimaced; "You guess? Well, I guess no desert for you then."

Fina gasped, "Daddy, I was just joking. I did miss you very much. Can Noah and I go play?" She ran off with her little brother to the basement where their playroom was. "How are guys doing?"

Olivia sighed and turned down the heat on the food before turning to her former captain. "We're good, better now. The kids are coming for a family night, Noah is doing great, and thank you for taking them for a couple of hours."

Don nodded his head; "That's great. I'm glad I could be of service I love spending time with them but, Eileen is in the car waiting; it's date night. Take care of each other.

As the door shut behind Don, Oliva turned back into the kitchen to put the last touches on dinner.

"Well, while the kids are in the basement, what do you say mommy and daddy have some alone time?" Smiling, Olivia sat down in her husband's lap and leaned down to kiss him. "You know what? I like that idea a lot." Their kiss got more heated but, they were interrupted by the buzzer. Olivia got up to answer the gate attendant while Elliot went to the basement to get Fina and Noah.

"DAD! You really going to let her get away with this." Elliot laughed at his oldest son. "Rich, she's not cheating, she just plays this game any chance she gets so she wins the majority of the time she plays."

Richard dropped down back on the couch and crossed his arms. "She six. There is no way she's so good at this game." Fina smirked at him and the cards from her older brother's hand. "Don't be a hater Richie." The entire room burst into laughter. "Damn Rich. You just got served by a six-year-old."

"Shut up Lizzie." She sneered at him and flicked him in his head. "I don't go by that anymore and you know that Dick."

Olivia looked at the twins and laughed. "Okay, enough you two. Noah, Fina say goodnight it's time for bed." The two youngest stablers groaned but still got up and said their goodbyes. "Goodnight everyone. Come on Noah, I know where mommy hides the iPad."

"Is it okay if we watch a movie before we go Liv?"

"Of course. I'm gonna go put the kids to bed. El, want to help?" He grabbed her hand and let her pull him up.

After the kids were in bed, Olivia pulled her husband into their bedroom. "So I've been thinking."

"Uh oh." She nudged him and continued "Anyways like I was saying before I was rudely interrupted. I want to renew our vows." She watched his eyebrows raise. "Really?"

"Yes, and I want everyone there and by everyone I mean everyone." He picked her up into his arms and swung her around. "EL!" She laughed out loud as he spun her.

Once her feet hit the ground, he grabbed her hand and pulled her to the door. "Let's tell the kids." As they got to the last step they noticed the movie was over and all the Stabler kids were all passed out on the ground including Noah and Fina. Richard was laid out on the couch with Fina in his arms. Maureen was laid out on the loveseat and Kathleen's head was in her lap. Liz and Eli were on the floor in front of the couch with Noah in between them.

"When did they come down here?" He watched his wife shrug and turn to him. "I don't know but if my life is like this for the rest of my day I'll die a happy woman." He pulled her into his arms and kissed her forehead. "Come on. Let's go to bed." He turned to pull her to the stairs but instead she grabbed a couple of guest blankets from the linen closet and draped them over the kids.

"Now we can go to bed."

Everyone was hanging out in the living room when the buzzer went off in the door. Elliot frowned and turned to Olivia. "Are you expecting someone?" She nodded and stood up to walk towards the door. Five minutes later her entire squad walked in. Amanda walked in first with the rest of the squad following. "Hey, everyone."

Fin walked in last and Fina ran to him while she and the kids each let out an; "Uncle Fin!" He scooped her up when she reached him. "I missed you."

"I missed you too Twin." Walking up to Elliot and pulled him into a hug. "How it's going, man?"

"I can't complain. What about you Grandpa?" They laughed at the comment. "I'm great you should meet him, man. He's the highlight of my life."

Elliot nodded at his former co-worker. "Name the time and place."

"What the hell is going on here? Who are all these people? Who is this little girl and why does Fin call her twin?" Olivia sighed heavily as Amanda began her questioning. "Before we start this Amanda we're still missing people." After this, the buzzer went off again. Five minutes after that she opened the door to reveal Barba and Nick.

"Nick?" Before Amanda went into shock Olivia stepped between everyone. "Why don't we all sit down."

After everyone was settled she began speaking. "Before I begin I want to introduce everyone. Kids this is my squad Amanda, Sonny, Nick, Rafael, Mike, and of course, you know Fin. Guys this is my family Maureen is the oldest then Kathleen followed by the twins Elizabeth and Richard then comes Eli, then Fina, and you all know Noah;" Turning to her husband she grabbed his hand and turned back to the crowd. "And this is my husband Elliot. I know you all want an explanation and I will give it to you. To answer your question Amanda Fin call her twin because her name is Josefina Kathryn Stabler after her godparents who helped me deliver her."

Chapter Text

"Yes, you can." Olivia just shook her head. "Kathy. Please, I really can't."

Kathy turned towards her ex-husband's fiancé and grabbed her hand. "Olivia Benson listen to me. Do you remember when Eli was born? In the back of the ambulance? I was so tired but you wouldn't let me go to sleep. You sat behind me and helped me push and when he came out I passed out remember?" Olivia nodded and sat up to let Kathy sit behind her. "Now it's your turn to be strong and you're about to be a Stabler and we're survivors. You already survived the worst days of your life and you can do this. Now let's have this baby. Are you ready?"

When Olivia nodded her head Kathy turned to the door and yelled for help. "We're ready!"

Fin rushed into the room and ran towards the two women on the bed. "Ok Fin. She's fully dilated. All you have to do is watching the baby come out and make sure she's okay and nothing is blocking her airway. Ok, Liv. On the next contraction push."

Olivia took a deep breath and grabbed her knees. "UGHHHHHH!" She felt Kathy pushing along with her and kept pushing with everything she had.

Fin looked up from in between her legs with a big smile on his face. "Her head's out Liv. Your almost there just one more big push ok." She looked up at the ceiling as she laid her head on Kathy's shoulder. "Ok. Ok. UGHHHHHHHHH. Oh god." She collapsed into Kathy's arms as she watched Fin hold her daughter.

"Fin? Why isn't she crying? Is she ok?" Fin walked over to the side of the bed.

"She just fine Liv. Here. Baby girl Stabler in all her glory ten fingers ten toes." Olivia looked at her friend of 14 years and then over her shoulder to her fiancé's ex. "Thank you so much. Both of you. I don't know what I would've done if you guys weren't here with me." It was then that Elliot ran into the room. "Liv. Oh my god."

Kathy got up from her spot behind Olivia and left the room with Fin to give them a moment alone.

"Liv. I'm so sorry I wasn't here. I tried to make it, I did;" Olivia laid her hand on his face to get him to stop talking. "It's okay because I had two amazing people to help me give birth to our beautiful baby girl Josefina Kathryn Stabler." She watched him process what she said and he leaned down to kiss her. "Let's give them the news."

Elliot left the room and soon returned with Kathy and Fin in tow. "We have something to tell you two. Olivia had the name her and if you ask me it was better than anything we discussed and it's appropriate for the way she came into this world. Meet your godchild Josefina Kathryn Stabler."

They watched the two look at each other and then look back at them. "I- guys. You named her after us and you're making us her godparents?" Olivia smiled and nodded her head.

"Well, we were going to ask you guys to be her godparents anyways that was the whole point in you guys coming over but naming her after you two happened because I thought I couldn't do it but you two help me power over my mind and help me bring her into this world. There's not any other name fitting her. Want to hold her?" Fin nodded and grabbed her from Elliot's arms.

"Such a big name for such a small person. Hey twin. I'm you're godfather but you can call me Uncle Fin but I think I like twin instead. What do you think?" She gripped his finger and Fin pecked her forehead and smiled at the couple watching him with such awe.

"So let me get this straight. You guys had a baby and got married but I don't ever remember you being pregnant." Amanda looked at everyone in the room and frowned as no one answered her. "Well?"

"I was pregnant when Lewis broke into my apartment but I didn't know. I was four months and had no idea I was pregnant. So when I broke free, I realized something wasn't right on top of the other injuries. I was bleeding so much and I was so confused but then he woke up and it became the last thing on my mind;" Olivia took a deep breath and look at her daughter as she continued. "I was in the hospital. Elliot had just got there and the doctor came in."

"How are you doing detective?" Olivia looked at the doctor but kept quiet.

Elliot worried for her spoke up. "She's fine just a little pain." The doctor nodded her head and walked over to the machine that looked familiar to Elliot but not so much Olivia. The doctor pulled over the bed.

"I was looking over the tests and I'm not sure how this is possible but Detective you are four months pregnant." Olivia looked at Elliot with wide teary eyes and spoke up for the first time since entering the hospital. "I didn't know El. I swear I-I wouldn't even have worked this case or even went into that interrogation room." She began sobbing and Elliot pulled her into his arms.

"Liv it's okay. I know you wouldn't have I trust you." She nodded as her years subsided and looked over at the doctor. Reading her mind Elliot pulled away and nodded toward the doctor.

"I was in such a daze in the hospital I didn't want to see anyone but then the doctor came in and told me the news. It was like a breath of fresh air and so I made it my mission to make sure I got better not just for myself and Fina but for Elliot and the kids because I wanted them to witness this life being grown and I wanted to see them grow even more but that was short-lived because she was born a little after a month of me being out of the hospital because the stress of the nightmares and flashbacks were too much for her and I went the hospital where they induced my labor but after two weeks she still didn't come so I left. Imagine my surprise that when I sent Elliot to go get takeout so we could ask Kathy and Fin to be her godparents she decided to make her entrance into the world. She was in NICU for a couple of months. Yes even after I came back to work but she's a Stabler and she survived and here we are."

There was not a dry eye in the room. Nick was the first to speak up. "Liv. I understand that you went through a lot with Lewis and the way Josefina was born but come on. Do you mean to tell me that you have been with this man since before I even joined the squad? It doesn't make sense because I never saw him not one at anything. The hospital after Lewis, the trial, Noah's adoption, or even your ceremonies." Everyone looked to Olivia waiting for her response but Carisi spoke first.

"I've seen him before. I've never heard of him or anything but it was after the shooting when Dodds was in the hospital. Amanda has just left to check on the kids and you were sleeping on his shoulder. You thought you sent everyone home but I stayed behind. I got some news and went to tell you but when I saw you guys I decided against it but later that night just before everyone came back I saw him leaving but with everything going on I forget about it and never mentioned it."

Opening the car door Olivia went to get in but hesitated. Carisi and Rollins noticed so Carsi spoke up. "Lieutenant, are you alright?" Olivia nodded and let out a sigh.

"No. We didn't search Munson. So I left Dodds in there. So this is on me." Slightly shaking she finally got into the car and drove to the hospital.

Hours later after Dodds was slightly out of the wood Olivia sent everyone home and walked into the waiting and saw her husband standing there. "Elliot. What are you doing here?"

Elliot made his way over to his wife. "Fin called me." He pulled her into her arms and Olivia let it all out. "I didn't search him and I left Dodds in there by himself and now he's fighting for his life because I didn't do my job." She was sobbing hysterically so Elliot pulled her over to the love seat in the waiting room. "Shh. Baby. "It's ok. He's going to be ok. Now just breathe with me." Together they took deep breaths until she fell asleep on his shoulder. Pulling out his phone he began answering the messages on his phone when he heard someone walk into the waiting room. Raising his head he watched this man look at the two of them then turn and walk back out. Five minutes later he received a text.

Man Carisi saw you two and is now asking me about you.

What did he say?

Just who the hell is this man and why does she have her head on his shoulder but I just told him that he should just let Olivia explain herself. Also, everyone will be back in around ten so do what you want with that info.

Good looking out man.

"I never knew about that." Olivia looked at her husband and raised one of her perfectly arched eyebrows at him. "I was waiting for you to tell me that he asked about us but it never came so I never said anything." Satisfied with the answer Olivia looked back at her squad and sighed. "Nick. He was there. For everything. You just never knew who he was."

"Elliot, she's fine." Fin tried to reassure Elliot on the phone but he didn't want to hear any of it. "I'm on my way up." Elliot hung up and exited his vehicle.

Back in the waiting room Fin nodded to Cragen and the captain stepped up. "Everyone go home. She doesn't want to see anyone right now. Let's just give her some space." Everyone reluctantly got up and left. The elevators dinged and Elliot stepped out and walked past Amanda and Nick without so much of a second glance. The elevator door closed just as Elliot met up with his former captain and co-workers. He let out a sob and the three of them all help to calm him before he went into her room.

"I was going to take her out to help calm her from the case because she was so upset but Richie got in trouble in school again so I went to see him instead of going home to her. I was on the phone with her when she got home. She hung up to put the groceries away and I was so caught up with Richie I didn't even realize she never called me back."

"Elliot it's not your fault ok? But you need to pull yourself together because she needs you right now."

"I have a limp now. I've lost my hearing. I am partially blind. Did you or did you not brutally beat me within an inch of my life while I was helpless, handcuffed to the bed?!" It took everything In Elliot not to get up out of this seat and finish what Olivia had started. He could see his wife was panicking but she took a breath and spoke after a couple of minutes passed. "You had broken free of your restraints and I did what I had to do to subdue you."

Olivia rushed past everyone and into the stairwell. Five minutes the door opened and her body stiffened. The footsteps got closer but she allowed herself to calm down when she realized who it was the entered the stairwell. Allowing herself to be pulled into his arms she sobbed into his arms until she finally began to breathe normally again. "I beat him EL. What he said a couple of days ago was true. I beat him while he was handcuffed to the bed and I didn't stop until my arms got tired." Elliot stood up and stretched his arm out to her. "Liv, he deserves every bad thing that happens and he's going away. You won. Now let's go home."

"Noah Benson Stabler. Wow." Olivia smiled up at her husband and youngest daughter. "He's officially ours?"

Elliot looked down at his wife and youngest son. "Yeah, baby. He's officially ours."

As they reached the car Elliot buckled in Fina and waited outside the car for Olivia to finish Noah. "So I'm dropping you guys off at the apartment but Fina and I have some things to do before we meet back at the house." Oliva frowned at him. "But this was supposed to be when we tell everyone El."

He nods and grabs her hand. "I know baby and I'll be there promise." Olivia seemed to accept this and get into the car.

Olivia sighed as she checked her phone. He wasn't there and people were beginning to exit. "Liv you ok?" She nods and stood up. "You on your way out?" Nick nods and she pulls him into her arms. "Nick, I've grown with you more than I did my ex-partner. I was never going to be able to leave his side. I didn't want to but with you, it was easy because you were good to me and I'll never forget you." She watched Amanda and Nick leave. She turned to the remaining guests and sighed tears running down her face. "I just can't believe he isn't here." Just as the last words left her mouth the front door open and Elliot came in with the kids, Kathy, and his mom. "Bernie?"

"Olivia. You look great. Now, where's my new grandson." She pointed behind her and watched as Bernie rushed to take Noah out of Munch's arms. Elliot walked up to her after all the kids hugged her. "I'm sorry I'm late but I have a surprise for you. Everyone if you would please follow me outside." He pulled his wife along and everyone piled into the elevator. Once they got to the first floor Elliot pulled her outside. "As everyone here knows my wife blessed me with no one but two new additions to our family. In less than two years so I decided to get her a push present."

Elliot gestured to the two brand new SUVs in their registered parking spots. "Now there's two because there was a deal however I had yours specially made." He then opened the door to one of the SUVs and she gasped seeing as he got her everything she planned to get when she bought herself a new car. "El..." She went to speak again but he interrupted her. "Before you saying anything Liv I believe I said you gave me two new additions to the family that means two push presents. Now we have to drive to the next present so climb on in because you're gonna lead the way there;" Closing the door behind his wife he looks back to his kids, mom, former colleagues, and babysitter. "Now everyone please follow us."

Olivia pulled up to a gated community and when she pulled up she watched her husband nod to the man in the office and the gate opened. She began to follow the GPS again and she pulled up to a house and she put the car in park and looked at her husband. "El?" He just smiled and got out of the car. She followed suit and she followed her husband to the front door as everyone else followed. "Elliot what are you doing? You can't just walk into someone's home like this. Now, what are we doing here?"

He continued to pull her until they got outside and she saw and banner that said, WELCOME TO OUR NEW HOME. "Elliot Joseph Stabler you didn't." Elliot pulled her into his arms and kissed her forehead. "I did. It's why I was late. Forgive me?" Olivia pulled him closer and rested her head on his shoulder. "Yes, I forgive you. I love you so much. To the moon."

"And back."

Bernie clapped her hands to get everyone's attention. "Let's party."

Chapter Text

Elliot sat in the principal's office as he waited on his wife to show.

The door bursts open and Olivia rushes in. "I'm here. What happened?" The principal sighed and rubbed her hands through her hair.

"Well, usually Noah is one of our star students but lately he's been acting out." Olvia looked at her husband with a raised brow then back at the principal. "Acting out? How so?"

"Well today a kid try to play with one of Noah's toys and he punched the little boy." Elliot watched his wife's jaw drop. "Did he say why he hit him?"

"He just told the teacher you can't take what's not yours. We're just going to send him home for today but if this happens again we're going to have to take more serious action. We can't have him going around punching kids. I'll call for him you can wait out in the hall."

The couple stepped out into the hall and Olivia leaned in the wall as her husband stood in front of her. "This is my fault."

"Liv," Elliot speaks up to try but Olivia isn't having it. "No. It is. I didn't listen to you when you told me that we shouldn't let this woman into our lives so easily and quickly."

"Liv. She's his grandmother. I know you were trying to do what was right and I don't blame you for that. I'll never will."

Before Olivia could Noah appeared in front of them. "Hi, mom. Hi dad." They watched as Noah spoke but didn't lift his head. "Come on. We're leaving. Mom has to get back to work."

As they head out to their respective vehicles Elliot gave his wife and kiss before walking to his car. "Liv. We'll talk about this when we get home." Climbing the front seat Elliot looked at his youngest son through the rearview mirror. "Do you have anything thing to say?" Noah shook his head but never looked in his father's direction.

Walking through the front door Olivia dropped her work bag on the door side table and walked to her son's room. Walking in she sees him on the floor doing his homework.

"So your father has told me that you've decided that you have nothing to say well good because I want you to listen. What happened today was not okay. You know it and I know it. I know you've been having a hard time lately but that doesn't mean that you can go around punching your classmates. You know that. So what we're going to do is you don't leave this room until you feel like speaking and then we figure out your punishment. You know the drill. No nothing. Goodnight."

Walking into her bedroom Olivia searches for her husband. "El?" Getting no response but hearing noise in their bathroom she makes her way over. Pushing the door open she sees her husband has run her a bath. "Hey, welcome. I heard someone had a bad day."

Holding his hand out to his wife Elliot waited for her to grab it. Pulling her towards the jacuzzi tub he begins to help her strip. After Olivia steps into the tub, Elliot turns and grabs a wine glass. He hands it to her and walks towards the door. "Where are you going?"

Slightly turning towards her he pulls the door open. "I'm going to check on the kids and I'll be right back.

Ten minutes later Olivia is lounging on her husband's chest caressing his hands she lays her head back onto his shoulder. "Do you remember the day you finally showed up to my old apartment after you retired?" Her husband chuckles behind her; "Do I? I'll never forget."

"Kathy? What are you doing here?" Elliot watched as his ex-wife walked into his building like she owned the place. "So I just got a call from Olivia. It was the craziest thing she asked me if I've heard from you or if you had been home. Which was weird considering you haven't lived there in months. Do you want to explain to me why you haven't told her we've separated again? How she doesn't know that the divorce will be finalized?"

Elliot shook his head and plopped himself on the old grey couch in his new apartment. "I was going to then a shooting happened at the precinct. A vic's daughter. She was the same age as Liz. She came in just shooting and I pulled my gun and I talked her down by one of the guys in lockup mouthed off and she raised her arm to fire and I..." Shaking his head Elliot laid his head in his head and rubbed his eyes. "I killed her."

Olivia was laying on her couch with an arm covering her eyes.

"Elliot put his papers in. There was nothing I could do."

She was going the conversation with her captain I'm her head when the bell rang. Standing up she swung the door open and there he stood with his wife. Her best friend. Her partner. And his wife. Olivia never got a word out before Kathy pushed past her pulling on Elliot's arm.

She watched as Kathy pushed him on the couch before she sat down on the matching chair leaving Olivia nowhere to sit but next to Elliot. "Liv. Elliot has something to tell you." Elliot's head never raised. He just sat and shook his head.

"Fine. I'll tell you. We're getting a divorce. Well, actually it was already finalized. I got the papers this morning right before you called me actually. I've been trying to get him to tell you how he feels since we've started the process. I'm not blind. I've always known how you two felt about each other. I just didn't want to let go. Then I met someone and it was like I couldn't breathe when I first spoke to him. Slowly but surely I fell for him and he told me how he felt."

"That night when Elliot got home. I sat him down and told him that it was over and it had been for 12 years. We're celebrating our one year in two weeks. Getting back together was a mistake. I love Eli and I don't regret him but I do regret that we got back together because he shouldn't have been with me. He loves you and you love him. I've seen it each time I came to the precinct. Whether you guys were about to rip each other heads off or sharing food and drinks. So I'm going to go pick up Eli from his play date while you two pull your heads out of your asses. Goodnight."

Neither moved an inch for ten minutes. Not until they received a text from Kathy. Start Talking. They both let out a little laugh. Before it went quiet again.

"El why didn't you tell me? About any of it. The divorce. Your retirement. Why?" Olivia watched as he rubbed his newly grown beard.

"I was going to believe me. I was going to but then Jenna happened at first I didn't know how to deal with it. I killed a kid. The same age as my youngest girl. Then I had a talk with Don. I told him I was retiring because I lost my way. I wasn't there because of the job anymore but there solely for you and that's not fair. To you or the victims. He told me about a similar experience he had and how if it wasn't for his wife Marge he wouldn't have gotten through it. Then he told me it was a relief I was retiring because he didn't want to have to deal with us when we finally go it together. Liv. I love you."

"You know I don't think we properly thanked her for that. Or Carl actually. I'm glad she dragged me out of the house. I don't think I ever told you but she practically dragged me by my ear. In the car, she kept saying that it doesn't happen now it won't happen and I'll regret it and she was right. I would've regretted it if we didn't get together that night.

Noah peeked his head into his parent's room and walked into the foot of their bed. Olivia looked up from her book and set it on her bedside table. "Are you ready to talk?" When he nodded Olivia sat up and gestured to the bed. As Noah climbed up Elliot walked out of the bathroom.

Olivia gave Elliot a "just sit down" look. "So, Noah do you want to explain to us what happened today?"

"I was playing with my toys at recess and some older kid come over and broke one of them. So I got up and punched him."

Sighing Olivia pinched her nose and looked at her youngest. "I understand that he broke your toy but why hit him? Why not get a teacher?"

"Because daddy said Stablers don't let people walk all over us and Richie said we always stand up for ourselves."

"Noah that doesn't mean you have to hit them. Fighting is not ok?"

"But I saw you and grandma Shelia fighting! So how come when I do it I get in trouble. It's not fair!"

"Noah come here." Olivia patted on the empty between her and her husband. "Noah, I shouldn't have been fighting her, and I definitely didn't want you to see that."

"So how come I can't see her anymore?"

"Well, Noah, remember she did something bad so she had to go away? Ok, can we make a deal? I won't fight anymore but you can't fight anymore either."

"Benson." Olivia picked up her cell phone with a mouth full of food. "Mom's talking with her mouth full." Swallowing, Olivia gave her son a look and excused herself from the table.

"Liv." Closing her eyes she already knew what the call was about Elliot let her know he was missing dinner that night.

"What happened?" She questioned her husband's partner with a shaky breath. "We were ambushed. He was sending you a text when the shots were fired. He's on the way to Mercy." Hanging up without another word Olivia made her way back to the dining room. "Lucy."

The family babysitter who had stayed for dinner followed her boss to her bedroom. "Listen Lucy I know you were supposed to leave after dinner but that was Ayanna, Elliot was shot." She was in the process of changing into jeans when she finally processed what she was just told. Dropping on her bed she placed her head in her hands and began sobbing. "He was a shot and I don't know if he's ok or not. I can't lose him. Not after everything we've been through. I won't be able to handle it." After taking a few deep breaths Olivia stood and began to finishing dressing. "I need you to put the kids to bed I'll call Maureen or Kathleen to come relieve you but Lucy please don't tell them anything until I know more please."

"Liv. I got it. You go don't worry about us and you don't need to call anyone. I'm here as long as you need me." Nodding at her babysitter she grabbed her purse and began to walk out. "Kids I'll be back ok? Lucy's going to put you guys to bed be good."

Pulling up to Mercy she left her car at the valet and ran inside. "My husband was brought in. Elliot Stabler. Where is he?" The nurse held her hand up and she continued laughing it up on the phone. Reaching across the counter she snatched the phone out of the woman's hand and glared at her. "Look lady you have 20 seconds to tell me where to find my husband or so help me god I'll jump across this counter and I promise you don't want that. Now his name is Elliot Stabler." Before the woman could even make a move her name was called from behind her. "Liv!" Turning around she watched as her husband's partner started walking towards her. Turning back to the desk she tossed the phone back at the nurse and turned on her heel.

"The doctor has an update but he'll only talk to his next of kin." Following the woman, Olivia couldn't help but run the possible scenarios in her mind.

"I'm sorry Ma'am but your husband's heart couldn't stand the surgery and he didn't make it."

"LIV!" Snapping out of her thoughts Olivia looked at who she could assume was her husband's doctor. "Mrs. Stabler. I was your husband's surgeon. All but one of the bullets were through and through but we were able to remove that final bullet however it pierced his lung, we were able to fix it but we won't know how bad his lungs were affected until he wakes up. This brings me to my other concern. When your husband fell he hit his head on the sidewalk his brain swelled to an excessive size so we've placed him in a medically induced coma."

"Coma? My husband's in a coma?"

"Yes, Ma'am we will lower the anesthesia once the swelling goes down and take him into surgery to make sure everything went the way it was supposed to and relieve the rest of the pressure ourselves."

"Brain surgery ok? And how long will it take for the swelling to go down."

"Well with the size about two to three weeks."

"TWO TO THREE WEEKS?! Oh god. And if doesn't go down then what?" When the doctor didn't say anything she began sobbing. "Can I see him?"

"Yes, but only family can be in the room, and then it can only be two visitors." Following the doctor, she tried to slow her breathing and calm down.

Walking into the hospital room her heart dropped when she finally laid eyes on her husband. He was pale and he has tubes in his mouth. "Oh, El." She grabbed a chair and pulled it closer to the bed. Sitting down she reached for her arm but flinched when she realized she felt him. His skin was the coldest it's ever been. "Hey, baby. Can he hear me?" She turned to the doctor who followed her into the room.

"We're not sure ma'am but talking to him is good."

"Look at what you got yourself into. I always told you to be careful. You're like a giant magnet. We're always in this situation. You shot and me and Kathy at your bedside well not this time because we're married now. With seven kids. A whole football team as we like to call them. You missed out on dinner tonight. I made lasagna and mac and cheese. With salad and chicken. I know that a lot but I don't know I was kind of craving them all."

"El. I need you to wake up ok baby. I need you to be okay. I don't want you to miss anything. Don't forget Eli and Noah have the father and son event in two months. Remember how excited you were when they told you even though you were a little surprised they wanted their 'old man dad' there. I love you and I need you. I don't think I can do this without you. You've been in my life for 19 years. I don't remember what's like to be without you and I don't know what it's like to not wake up beside you and I don't want to. Okay? So please come back to me please."
