Chapter Text

Prince Michael was biting his nails nervously. Queen Nora grabbed his hand, “Stop that.”

“Mom, I don’t want to go to a boarding school.” Michael said.

“It’s been decided.” His mother replied.

“You never asked me. Why can’t I decide how the hell I want to live? I want to live a normal life.”

“You got in a fight after only one month of starting high school. It was wrong of us to let you attend a regular high school. Roswell High will help you adopt the right routines and keep the right company. We have attended this school for generations. Even though Max is the crown prince, you still have responsibilities. And remember, being a prince is not a punishment, but a privilege.”

“We’re ready for you now.” One of the reporters said. Michael and his older brother Max, who is dressed in his military uniform, and their parents went to the next room and sat down in front of the cameras.

“Please begin whenever you’re ready.” A reporter told Prince Michael.

“I would like to start by saying that nobody is more disappointed in me than my family and especially myself. This past year has been difficult for me. Since my confirmation last summer, I’ve been given a more official role as prince. This has come with added pressure which has resulted in me acting irresponsibly. And I apologize for this and assure you that it will not happen again. I would also like to inform you that my parents and I have decided that I will enroll at Roswell High Boarding School to continue my education there”

Max drives Michael to his new school and their bodyguards follow them in a separate car behind them. When they arrive, the headmistress and the entire staff line up to welcome them. Princess Isobel, their cousin who is a senior at this school has also come out. She is beyond excited to have Michael there.

The headmistress shakes their hand. “It’s a pleasure to see the crown prince again.”

“Great to see you, too.” Max replies.

Isobel gives Max a hug. And then turns to Michael. “Michael, long time no see.”

A photographer takes pictures of them talking to the staff. After they’re done meeting the staff and taking pictures, the headmistress takes them to the church. “The school choir has prepared a welcoming song for you.” She says.

When they get to the church, everyone is already seated and waiting for them. They sit in the front, Michael sits between Max and Isobel. The choir come in and start singing. And Michael is stunned at how amazing their solo singer sounds. He observes him closely, and for the first time in a while, Michael smiles. “Who is he?” Michael asks Isobel. “He’s Alex Manes. He’s a freshman like you. He’s in your class.”

“What do you mean you couldn’t get alcohol? I thought you could get anything.” Isobel said furiously.

“The police were going to search the school. I couldn’t risk getting caught with it.” Kyle said. “And now my contact is out of town.”

Isobel is glaring at him. Kyle points to Alex across the yard. “My friend Alex knows someone who works at that local bar, the wild pony. Why don’t you ask him?”

Max and Michael go to Michael’s room. “I’m so jealous. I had to share a room until my senior year.” Max said.

“I can’t take three years here, Max.”

“Just do what Isobel tells you to do. It’s not just about you. Everything you do reflects back on our family. It’s not that hard. You have to be able to keep up appearances.”

Max gets up to leave “We’ll see each other soon.”

Isobel waits for Alex in the yard, “Hi. I’m Isobel. It’s a pleasure”

Alex looks at her for a second “Is this a prank?”

“No. I just wanted to say hi. I don’t believe we’ve met.”

“Ok. I’ve been going here for over a month, but sure.”

“I need your help with something. Do you know someone who sells booze?”

“Don’t you have a local booze dealer?”

“My regular contact is out of town. I’m having a party for Prince Michael. So if you can fix me up with booze, I might make an extreme exception and invite you. Here’s two Hundred dollars. Thank you.”

Just as Liz is walking up to them, Isobel hands Alex the money and walks away. “What did she want?” Liz asks her friend. Alex tells her everything.

“Do you think Prince Max is going to be there?” Liz asked excitedly. She has always wanted to meet Max.

“I don’t know.”

“Well, you’re gonna have to get the booze. We need to go to that party!”

“Fine. I’ll ask if Maria can get us something.”

They get to Kyle’s car who’s waiting for them. “Will you come over for dinner tonight? My mom is making spaghetti.” Alex asks Liz and Kyle as they get in the car.

At the dinner table, Flint wwa helping their mom set the table when Alex, Liz and Kyle joined them.

“We got invited to a party!” Liz said excitedly.

“Sounds great.” Alex's mom said, then went back to the kitchen to get the salad.

Flint asked them “Really?”

“We’re not exactly invited. But if I can get booze, I can go and maybe I can bring Liz too. It’s supposed to be seniors only.”

Flint doesn’t go to the same school as Alex, Liz and Kyle. They won a scholarship because they are really smart and passed the entrance exam to the elite boarding school. Flint, who is currently a junior, and Maria, who is a freshman like Alex, Liz and Kyle, had also taken the exam but they didn’t do well; and there were a limited number of scholarships so they didn’t get in. They go to a normal school in town. And the older Manes boys, Clay and Greg, are in the military.

Maria opens the door to find Alex on her doorstep. She smiles. "Alex, you've been avoiding me."

"What? No. I've just been busy. The school gives us so much work to do. Can I come in?"

"Yes. Of course."

They go to the living room. Maria's homework is all over the dining table. "So what's up?" Maria asks her childhood friend.

Alex tells her everything from the prince joining their school to the party that princess Isobel is throwing. "So can you ask your mom to get us some champagne? I have the money for it."

"She won't give us alcohol. You know my mom. But I can take it. Every couple of days I help her out with cleaning the bar. I'll just take some champagne bottles and put the money in the register. My mom is not the only person working there. She won't find out. But I want to come to the party too."

"Fine. You get us alcohol, I'll take you to the party."

“I got you the booze. But I need to bring some of my friends.” Alex tells Isobel in the school hall.

“Okay. Great. See you at the party.”

When Alex, Kyle, Liz and Maria get to the party, Liz immediately starts looking for Prince Max and gets disappointed when she finds out Max isn’t at the party. Alex and Kyle take her to the dance floor to cheer her up. Maria goes to get herself a drink.

Alex and Liz dance to the songs for what feels like forever, then Liz tells Alex that she wants to go look for Maria. After a few minutes of looking around, she finds Maria outside puking. “Maria are you ok?”

“Yeah. I guess I shouldn’t have had that third drink.” She throws up again.

“All right. Let’s get you home.”

Back at the dance floor, Michael notices Alex. He’s been noticing Alex at their classes too but now that he has some liquid courage, he decides to talk to him.

“How are you doing?”

“I’m good.”

Michael just looks at him dumbfounded. It’s like he’s forgotten how to use words.

Alex just smiles at him. “I gotta go.”

Michael goes after him. “Hey, wait. Wait! I was about to go outside. Do you wanna come with?”

They go outside and sit under a tree. The cool breeze feels good on Michael’s skin.

"I liked your song. You have a good voice."

"Do you like it here?"

"Yeah. What about you?"

"It's good"

Alex smiled and Michael found he couldn't look away from his beautiful face. Maybe this school wasn’t so bad after all.

Chapter Text

Isobel wakes up to a warm body next to her. Remembering last night, she smiles and snuggles closer to him. She slowly opens her eyes and comes face to face with Kyle.

"Good morning, Princess."

"Good morning." Isobel takes in the view in front of her. In the daylight, she notices just how big and strong Kyle is. And handsome. Very handsome.

"It’s almost time for breakfast. We should go now or we'll be late."

Isobel looks at the clock on the wall. They have about five minutes before breakfast starts. She could hear the commotion from outside her room. Other girls were going down for breakfast. "Ok. Can you go out the window?"

"Sure, Princess."

Isobel kisses him. And watches him leave. Well, more like checks out his ass as he climbs out the window.

At their first class, Alex walks in and sits next to Liz, like always. "How's Maria?"

"Oh, she's good. I put her in a cab last night and sent her home."

"Rosa called this morning."

"How is she? How is she liking college?

"She's doing great. But it’s her first semester away at college and she's missing home. I can tell."

"She'll get used to it. And she'll make friends soon."

Michael keeps looking at Alex. When he thinks Alex and Liz are done talking, he gets up to say good morning to him but the teacher walks in and starts the class.

After a couple hours of riding, Isobel brings her horse, Bullet to the stable. Liz is there because she always volunteers to help clean and feed the horses. She likes being around them.

"You are so good with him. I've seen you out there. You look regal when you're riding him."

"As I should. Besides, Bullet makes it easy. He is one of the best horses in the world. Do you know how expensive he is?"

Liz starts petting him.

"Can you take a picture of us?" Isobel hands Liz her phone and stands next to Bullet.

Liz snaps a picture of them and hands the phone back to Isobel.

"Thanks." Isobel posts it on her Instagram page instantly. "I'm gonna go get Michael. He should be done with rowing practice."

"Looking good, Alex." The boys are done with rowing practice. And Michael has been waiting for an opportunity to talk to Alex. "Don't worry about balance. You'll get the hang of it. But you should keep your strokes as close to the surface as possible."

Isobel interrupts them to take Michael to go out with their friends.

When Alex gets home, he drops his backpack on his bed and goes to sit with his brother.

"Where have you been? I came home hours ago." Flint asks him.

"I had rowing practice."

Flint laughs. "What the hell is rowing?"

"It's a sport."

"Rowing isn’t a sport. Soccer is a sport. Coming to see my game tomorrow?"

Michael is lying down on his bed. He's checking out Alex's Instagram page when Isobel walks in.

"Good morning, cousin. What are you doing? Let me see." She takes Michael's phone and sees that he's just scrolling through Instagram. "Just don't use the school's wi-fi for porn surfing. Could be embarrassing."

Michael's phone rings. Isobel answers. It's Max. "Hello cousin."

"Hey, Isobel. How are you?"

"Fine. Just telling your brother that he needs to study harder." Michael tries to get the phone back from her. "I should go. It was nice talking to you."

After Isobel leaves, Michael talks to Max. "Hey Max."

"Hey Michael, how's the school? How are the kids there treating you?"

"It's all right." Michael goes by the window and sees Alex warming up for practice. Max is talking but he stopped listening the moment he saw Alex outside. "Can we talk later? I have to go to practice now. I'll call you after. Ok?"

"Ok. Bye."

He puts on his sweater and goes outside. He runs until he's next to Alex. The group runs for two miles and then do some pushups. Michael makes sure he's next to Alex the entire time.

Everyone was studying at the library. Michael was sitting next to Alex. After about an hour, Alex checks the time and gets up to leave. "I'm gonna go home."

"Ok. I'll see you at rowing practice tonight." Michael tells him.

"No. I can't make it tonight."

"You can't just skip practice if you want to make the rowing team."

"I know. But I have a thing tonight. I can't make it."

Liz and Kyle get up from their seats too and pack up their stuff. "Wait up, Alex. We're gonna leave with you."

As they leave, Isobel says "Hey Alex, you have to come to the horror movie night on Friday at the rec room. Well, the three of you."

"Ok." Alex tells her. And they leave.

Later that day, Michael is in his room and can't stop thinking about Alex. So he texts him. "Why can't you make it to the rowing practice tonight?"

He opens his book and tries to focus. But he can't. he keeps clicking his pen. His phone vibrates. A message from Alex. " My brother has a soccer game. I promised him I'd go. Tag along if you want."

He quickly replies. "I'll be there."

He tells his teammates he has a sore throat and then he sneaks out to meet up with Alex.

Michael takes a bus to the gas station Alex told him to meet. When he gets there, Alex is waiting for him. And they walk to the soccer game.

"Have you always lived here?"

"How do you like it?"

"It's ok. But there's not much to do here."

They get to the game and Kyle is already there. Alex and Kyle hug and Alex introduces him to Michael.

"Kyle, this is Michael. Michael, this is my friend, Kyle."

They say hello and shake hands.

Kyle brings up his hot dog. "Alex, do you want one?"

"Yeah. But I can get one for myself."

"I'll get it for you." Michael says. And leaves for the hot dog stand.

Kyle eyes Alex suspiciously but doesn't say anything. He can't tease Alex when he's seeing Isobel.

Michael comes back with two hot dogs and hands one to Alex. They watch the game and cheer for Flint's team.

Afterwards, Kyle gives Michael a ride back to school.

It's Friday night and Kyle, Alex and Liz arrive for movie night.

"It's so good that we get invited to stuff like this." Liz says as Kyle parks the car.

"Yeah. But don't you think it's weird that Isobel invited us?" Alex asks.

"No. She probably likes us." Kyle quickly says.

When they start the movie, Michael sits next to Alex. After a few minutes, Michael puts his hand on Alex's leg. Alex puts his hand over his. and Michael intertwines their fingers. He smiles until he realizes that Liz is looking at them. He lets go of Alex's hand and leaves.

He goes down and sits by a window. Alex comes down after him. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah. It got so hot in there. I just needed some fresh air."

Alex takes a step forward and kisses him. Michael doesn't move. Alex kisses him again. Then the students yell from the top floor and Alex quickly backs away.

When Michael doesn't do anything again, Alex turns around to leave. Michael holds onto his arm. "Wait. Stop!"

They could hear the film playing on the top floor. Michael pulls Alex towards him and kisses him. And he doesn't let go.

Chapter Text

Michael went looking for Alex and found him in the music room, playing the piano. Alex played so beautifully. It was breathtaking. "Hey."

"What are you playing?"

"The school song."

The prince watched him while he played. After it was done, Alex looked up at him and smiled. "About what happened on Friday, I just wanted to say…"

"I think maybe we should forget about that." Michael interrupted him. "I'm not like that. You know what I'm saying?"

"Yes. I understand."

Liz walked in "Time's up. We need to get to class."

Alex got up to leave, "I have to go."

"But I still want us to be friends." Michael told him.

"Yeah, I'll see you around." Alex followed Liz out of the room.

Later that day, Princess Isobel was having a riding lesson, and Liz was there watching and helping her. They have become fast friends.

"Are your parents coming for parent's day?" Isobel asked.

"My dad is coming. But not my mom."

"Why not?"

"Because I don’t have any contact with her."

"Why not?"

"Because she left us a few years ago. What about you? Are they coming?"

"Yeah, my mom is coming. My dad is busy."

Staying away from Alex was harder than he thought. He saw Alex everywhere. In class, in the showers, in the dining room. He just couldn't take not touching Alex anymore. So one day after gym practice, Michael went to him. "Hey, are you ok?"

Alex nods.

"This weekend we get to go home. You know, after lunch tomorrow, the parents stay for a bit and then on Friday, they take their kids and go home for the weekend."

"Thanks for explaining the schedule."

"What I meant to say was almost no one is going to be here then. If I were to stay here, would you like to keep me company? Just you and me."

"What happened to "we should forget about it"?

"I take it back."

"Good." Michael beamed with delight at Alex's answer.

"But aren't your parents coming?"

"No, they're on a state visit. They can't make it. See you this weekend"

Finally, parent's day comes and all the students gather in the yard waiting for their parents to come in.

Alex, Kyle and Liz stand together looking at all the parents being reunited with their kids. Until Sherrif Jim Valenti, Arturo and Mindy (Alex's mom) walk in together. And they go to welcome them.

Once all the parents have arrived, they go inside the church where the school choir sings a song for them. Liz notices that Michael and Alex lock eyes during the entire song.

Afterwards, they go inside the school. All the parents and students are talking and taking pictures. Alex was talking to Liz when Isobel comes up to them.

"What’s up?" Alex replies.

"So, I made sure you guys and your parents sit with us. Is Kyle here, too?"

"Yeah. Why?" Liz asks her.

Isobel smiles. "No reason. Just wanted to make sure I got the seating right. so when it’s time to start lunch, just come sit with me and Michael. Ok?"

Michael went to his room. He wanted a moment to himself and it's not like his parents were here anyway. He calls Max to tell him he's not coming back for the weekend.

"Come on! You can't just sit there stuck in your room. Go and join the others." Max told him.

"No, but I can't be bothered going around greeting everybody."

"Come on. It's not that hard. It's gonna look real weird if you don't show up."

"To me, it feels weird if I show up, Max."

"You're such a dork. It's not that hard. Go out there, say hello, shake a few hands, pretend to be someone else. We'll see each other this weekend."

"I was going to talk to you about that. Because I was thinking about staying here this weekend."

"What? Why?"

"Uh, to study. I'm behind, so I need to catch up a bit."

Max starts laughing. "Are you, Michael, my little brother, staying in school?"

"What's so strange about that? Yes."

Max keeps on laughing. "You've met someone."

"Yes, ok. But I don't think we're a couple or anything. I don't know what it is."

"I get it. You don’t have to tell me anything. Well, enjoy yourself. Soon enough, people will start having opinions."

"They don't care about me. They have opinions about you because you're the Crown Prince."

"I don't get it. Why are you sitting in your room sulking when you have a crush to hang out with."

"It's not a crush. Goodbye, Max."

Michael joins everyone when lunch starts. Kyle is sitting next to Isobel, next to him is his father, then Alex, and Liz. The seat next to Liz is empty. Michael takes his seat. Mindy is sitting to Michael's left, And Alex introduces them. Michael shakes her hand. Liz introduces Arturo who is sitting next to Mindy. And then he meets Jim Valenti.

Isobel's mom, Louise speaks first, "Now that everyone knows everyone, tell us how you guys are doing? Do you still ride, Michael? I know Isobel is quite the equestrian."

"Occasionally. I'm on the rowing team now."

"Yes, Of course. Just like Max was."

They continue to make small talk for the rest of the meal. Everyone especially Mindy, Arturo and Jim had a wonderful time.

That evening, Liz and Alex go to Alex's room to study. After a little while, Liz asks him "Is something going on between you and Michael? I've seen the way you look at each other. Why are you two sneaking around?"

"He wants it that way. It's really complicated. Please don't tell anyone."

"I promise. But you like him, don't you?"

"I wanna know everything. Has anything happened yet? Have you kissed the prince?"

"Stop it!"

"Tell me!"

On Saturday, Alex goes to school to pick up Michael. they have breakfast with the few students that have stayed behind. And then get up to leave. When they get to the yard, everyone is staring at Michael. Michael was looking at them confused. He was about to ask them what was wrong when the headmistress called him.

"Could you please come with me?" She asked him.

"What's going on?"

"Please just come with me."

They go to her office, and she closes the door.

"What's going on?" Michael asks again.

She hands him the phone.

"Yes, Michael speaking."

"Michael, it's your mother."

"Hey, what's the matter?"

"It's Max. he was going too fast and lost control. He was in a car accident. Michael, Max is dead."

Chapter Text

Max's funeral was broadcasted on TV. Alex watched as Michael walked behind his brother's coffin while men in military uniform carried it out of the church.

That night, Alex and Liz were watching the news. The news cycle was filled with reports about Max's death. The reporter was saying "Prince Michael will now take over the duty of Crown Prince and future king of Antar, after the late Prince Max. Initially, the crown prince will spend his time studying at Roswell High boarding school where his brother also studied."

Alex couldn't listen to it anymore. "Liz, please change the channel."

Liz turned the TV off; then came over and hugged Alex. She put his head in her lap and started playing with his hair. She knew her best friend needed her now more than ever.

A week after the funeral, Michael came back to school. All the students gathered to offer their condolences. Isobel was the first to welcome him back. She was at the funeral too but had come back to school sooner while Michael stayed behind to spend more time with his parents.

The school choir sang a heartfelt song in memory of Max. Afterwards, Michael got up to make a speech. "First of all, I would like to thank the choir for the beautiful song. I also want to thank you for extending your condolences at this difficult time. It feels wrong that I'm the one still here instead of him. I know that Max would have said 'There's no point in having a back-up if you never use it.' My brother was kind and considerate. He was my role model. And I will honor his legacy to be a crown prince my family will be proud of."

After that, they showed Michael to his room and his bodyguards stood outside his room in the hallway. When he was alone, he took off his coat, and sat on the bed.

All he could think about was Alex. Alex's touch. Alex's kiss. Alex's voice. Alex's beautiful eyes. His hand in Alex's hair.

Isobel had decided that Michael needed a party. And there was no stopping Isobel when she wanted to throw a party. So that weekend, she told everyone to come to the abandoned warehouse near the school. It was a good turnout. There were drugs and alcohol. Now that Kyle's contact was back in town, she got the alcohol from him. To help him ditch his bodyguards, she snuck Michael out of his room through the window.

At the party, Michael started drinking and he took a pill. After he played cards for a while, he stepped outside to get some fresh air. He heard someone walk up behind him. He turned around. He'd seen her hang out with Alex and his friends tonight so she must be one of Alex's friends.

"Hi. I don't think we've met. I'm Maria."

"So are you having a good time?"

"Sure. Isobel definitely knows how to throw a good party."

Maria stepped forward and tried to kiss him. Michael pushed her back. "Whoa! No!"

"I didn't mean to. I didn't know you were seeing someone."

"I'm not." Michael told her.

Maria started to speak again but Michael interrupted her.

"I don't even know you. I should go." Michael left before she could say anything. This happened to him a lot. Girls would get drunk and then throw themselves at him.

He walked back to school. He stopped at the soccer field and lied down. He was drunk and high. So he did the only thing he wanted to do. He called Alex.

"Who is this?"

"I really like you."

"Michael, is that you?"

"Yeah. I figured it out. You see, everything is fake. Everything in the world is fake. The grass on the football field isn't even grass. It's plastic. Everything is fake but I like you and that is not fake."

"Michael, are you on the soccer field?"

Alex left the party and ran as fast as he could. When he got to the soccer field, he sat down next to Michael.

"Are you high? What are you on?"

"You came." Michael smiled at him.

"Of course. You asked me to." Alex told him.

"Thank you for coming. You're really here. You're beautiful." He put his hand on Alex's face.

Alex pushed Michael's hand out of his face. He helped Michael stand up. As soon as Michael was standing, he hugged Alex. He walked the prince back to his room. And they snuck back in through the window. After he put Michael down in his bed, he checked his phone. He had a text from Liz asking where he was. He turned around to leave but Michael grabbed his hand.

"Wait. Don't go. I'm sorry." He had sobered up a little.

"It's ok."

"I want you to hold me, Alex."

Alex sat down on the bed next to him. And held him in his arms. "How do you feel?"

"Better. Can you stay until I fall asleep?" Michael told him.

Alex nodded his head and Michael gently pushed him to lie down next to him. He curled up behind Alex and put his arm around him.

He desperately wanted to be close to Alex, to allow his kisses to say all the words he was unable to speak. Michael had to touch him; he didn't know what else to do. He was so completely lost and Alex is the only one who's ever been able to ground him. So Michael sat up and looked at him. He moved so he was between Alex's legs. Alex looked up at him and said "I like you too." That was all that Michael needed. He bent down and kissed Alex. He felt Alex's body pressing closer to him. Michael couldn't help but let out a groan, pressing himself even closer to Alex, wrapping his arms around him.

Michael put his hand in Alex's underwear and reveled in the way Alex moaned into his mouth. They struggled to take their clothes off. When they were both blissfully naked, groaning into each other's mouths, hot hard erections rubbing against one another, Michael moved a finger to slide down Alex's crack, pressing slightly when it found his desired goal.

Michael sat up suddenly, Alex whimpered at the loss of his lips as the prince reached for the nightstand and pulled out a bottle of lube and a condom. He used the lube to coat his fingers before reaching back around behind Alex, pressing a slick finger inside him.

Alex moaned, he was panting and groaning as Michael pushed deeper, stretching him. He brushed Alex's prostate, and Alex bit Michael's neck in an effort to stifle his screams, Michael relished in the fact that he'll have a mark there tomorrow. He kept pushing on Alex's prostate, three fingers now buried deep within him as he writhed against Michael's body, cock dripping with pre-cum. He groaned into Michael's neck, words beyond him as he continued to writhe, grinding his cock against Michael's thigh, sweat coating both their bodies, all movements slippery and perfect and he just wanted to cum but Michael’s fingers just weren’t enough.

"Michael.” His voice was wrecked, a desperate plea for the prince to do more.

Michael moved to kiss him, gentle and soft, slowing their pace again as he removed his fingers from Alex's ass, grabbing the lube again to lather up his cock before he lined up at Alex's hole.

"Alex. Look at me."

Slowly Alex opened his eyes, Michael waited until they made eye contact, taking a few moments to just stare at one another before he slided into Alex with one smooth thrust. Michael stayed still within him, waiting until Alex started squirming, pleading for him to move, before he did. He took his time. Slow, hard thrusts making Alex moan. Every time he drew back, he shifted his hips to hit his prostate dead on with every single thrust. Alex was a moaning wreck below him, eyes squeezed shut, head thrashing back and forth.

Alex kissed Michael briefly before laying back on the pillows. "Michael" He managed to gasp out just loud enough for him to hear. Finally, the prince moved his hand to Alex's cock, pumping him quickly in time with his thrusts.

It didn't take long for Alex to cum after that, only a few rough strokes of Michael's hand and he was moaning loudly. Michael covered his mouth with his own so that his bodyguards in the hallway didn't hear him. Alex's cum spurted between them as the prince spilled himself inside Alex.

They stayed wrapped together as their breathing slowed, panting against each other’s mouth. Eventually Michael pulled out but he stayed close, unwilling to let Alex too far from reach. He was never letting Alex go. He would go to hell and back if it meant he got to spend the rest of his life with Alex. He kissed Alex again, soft and deep, conveying every single emotion that he couldn’t even begin to explain with words.

Alex curled closer to him, trailing kisses up and down Michael’s chest while Michael buried his face into Alex’s hair. His chest ached at the thought of what he would have to go through to get to keep Alex in his life and he held on even tighter.

Maria had wondered off from the party. She had decided to find the prince and talk to him. She had asked around and knew which room was Michael's. She really wanted to try and see if she could become the future queen. What was the harm in trying, right? She just needed to talk to Michael again. When she found his room, she looked through the window and saw that Michael had someone else in his bed. She took out her phone and started recording. She wanted to know who her competition was. She needed to know who was hooking up with their future king. And then she gasped. It was Alex! Her own friend had beat her to it! But Michael needed a wife. Someone who could give him children. So she kept on recording them.

Chapter Text

The morning after was perfect. Michael woke up first, and he could not bring himself to wake Alex up. He looked so perfect under the sunlight that came in through the window. Michael traced his finger on Alex's skin, admiring his beauty. He doesn't know how long passed until Alex woke up.

"Hey." Alex smiled at him.

"Hey. Thanks for rescuing me yesterday."

"You're welcome."

Michael leaned in and took Alex's lips in his. They were soon interrupted when his bodyguard knocked on the door to remind him that breakfast would close in a few minutes. Michael kissed Alex one more time and then got up to get dressed.

"You can wait until my bodyguard and I have gone down. Then you can follow. But we have to make it look like you came from the bus."

"Ok. Don't I get breakfast?" Alex asked.

"But I'm starving."

"I'm kidding. I'll bring you a sandwich."

That morning in their first class, Michael gave Alex the sandwich he had made for him. Alex accepted it with a shy smile.

Of course, it didn't go unnoticed by Liz who immediately started asking questions.

"What's up? Where were you last night? I tried to reach you. you didn't sleep at your home."

"No. I didn't." Alex smiled.

Liz glanced at Michael, then back at Alex. " I knew it! Tell me everything." But their teacher walked in, ending their conversation.

Michael checked his hair in his reflection in the window. Alex had invited him over to his house for the evening and he was nervous. After a moment, he knocked on the door. Alex opened the door and took him inside. His bodyguard was a few steps behind him.

"Hi, Mindy. Thanks for having me over."

"You're always welcome here." Mindy replied with a smile.

"We're gonna start gaming. Call us when dinner is ready. Okay?" Alex told his mom.

Alex took Michael to his room and closed the door. The prince walked around the room and looked around. "It's cozy." He walked closer to Alex and kissed him. Alex broke off the kiss to take off his shirt. And then started a game on his computer and turned the sound up.

The sound of the loud gunfire from the computer startled Michael "What are you doing? Why did you put that on?"

"So my mom won't hear us."

That was all the explanation that Michael needed. He put his arms around Alex and kissed him again.

Every year, the school holds a gathering for Christmas and invites the students' families. Isobel was in a corner talking to her mom when she noticed someone she wasn't expecting. "Mom, what is he doing here?"

"I invited him."

"I know that. But why did you invite him? You know I don't like him."

"He's a Duke. He has shown interest in you, Isobel. What's the harm in giving him a chance?"

Isobel rolled her eyes. Duke Noah was a very wealthy and successful man. He was only a few years older than Isobel and he had made it clear that he likes Isobel. But the feeling is one-sided as Isobel has always felt something was wrong about him.

The Duke walked over to them and said hello to Louise; and then took Isobel's hand in his, and kissed the back of her hand. "Hello Isobel. I was very happy to get your mother's invitation. I've been hoping to see you again before you go off to college."

"That makes one of us." Isobel walked away as fast as she could, hoping the Duke would get the hint.

Mindy and Flint were there. And they had brought Arturo and Maria with them. Maria excused herself to go to the bathroom but she went to the library instead, and sat behind one of the computers. She hooked her phone to the computer and uploaded the video she had recorded of Alex and Prince Michael having sex. She thought she was quite the clever girl. It would look like someone from this school had recorded and shared the video, and no one would suspect her. But Maria didn’t notice Liz at her locker across the big room.

Liz thought it was odd that Maria was using the computer at their library but she didn't have time to ask her. She had to get back to Alex. The ceremony was about to start.

The choir sang their Christmas song. It was beautiful. Not that Michael was really listening. He was too focused on Alex to notice anything else. After it was over, he received a text. It was a link to a video of him and Alex from the night they hooked up in his room. It had already been viewed by hundreds of thousands of people.

By the next morning, everyone at school had seen the video. It was all anyone would talk about.

Queen Nora arrived at the school. She wanted to talk to Michael in person. She went to Michael's room. He was still in bed. He didn't want to face his schoolmates yet.

"You realize that this will have consequences?" She told her son.

"I'm sorry, mom."

"It looks like we can't cover this up. We have to address the matter. But we can still deny that it is you in the video. You can't really see that it is you. So that is what we'll do. We'll come and pick you up on Saturday. And you will do an interview at the castle. You'll release a statement. I don't want you to see Alex for the time being. It'll only set off new rumors."

"But I love him. I probably always will."

"We need to solve this first. Then we'll talk about that."

Alex's morning was very eventful. He went to the store to get some milk. He saw a tabloid with his and Michael's picture on the cover, "The Crown Prince's Secret Lover?" he picked up the magazine too. He read it on his way home. When he got back, Mindy went to his room and hugged him.

"I don't think you should go back to Roswell High. There's only a few days left until the Christmas break. After that, you can go back to your old school where Flint can look out for you. I'm sure Maria will be happy to have you back. Maybe Liz will switch schools too. In the meantime, you can skip school today. Stay home, sweetheart. Flint is going to stay home today too. I have to go to work." She kissed the top of Alex's head and went out.

After their mom left, Flint stayed with Alex in his room.

"It’s just total chaos. It's all they talk about at school." Alex said.

"Don't bother about it. It’s just a video, bro. famous people make videos like that. Not on purpose. The videos are leaked. Like Kim Kardashian. And she's doing fine now."

"Have you seen it?"

"Which one? Yours or Kim's?"

"Come on! Kim's!"

"Yeah. I've seen it. What did Michael say? Have you talked to him?"

"No. I've turned off my phone. I can't take it anymore."

"I get it. What are you gonna do?"

"I'm gonna have to quit. Come back to our old school with you."

"I would love for you to come back with me. But why should you take the blame for this? If you quit, you're the one paying for it. You can't give up now. Roswell high is a good school. Why should you leave when you've done nothing wrong? You're strong, Alex. You're stronger than you think."

Their doorbell rang and Alex got up to answer it. There was a man he didn't recognize at their door.

"Hello. Alex. I'm from Today's News and I'm writing an article and would like to interview you."

"No. I don't want to talk to you."

"I'm a reporter. I'm giving you a chance to give your version."

"Please leave."

Flint came out then and stood in front of Alex. "You heard him. Leave. If you don't leave right now, I'm calling the cops."

Flint slammed the door in his face. He put his arms around Alex and walked him back to his room. "It's ok, bro. I've got your back."

As soon as Alex turned his phone back on, he saw that he had a text from Michael. "Please come to school tomorrow. We need to talk."

Alex responded: "I don't know if I can handle it. Who did it? Must be someone at school."

Michael: "It's so fucking sick. Please come. We're in this together."

Alex went to school the next day. After their first class, they went to the showers to have some privacy. Michael sat next to Alex and took his hand in both of his. Alex laid down his head on Michael's shoulder.

"They've asked me to deny that it was me in that video."

"They want me to make a statement at the castle on Saturday."

"But you're not going to do it, right? Michael, everyone can see it’s me in that video. What am I supposed to do?"

"Alex, I don't want to say anything."

"But they can't dictate what you say. We haven't done anything wrong."

"No. We haven't. You're right. We're in this together."

Liz was in the library after school. Two men came over and started packing one of the computers. They said it was the one that the video was uploaded from; so they wanted to figure out who did it. Liz noticed it was the exact one that Maria used the night before. And suddenly it all became clear. Liz knew without a doubt that it was Maria who did it. Liz had to talk to her. She needed to figure out what was going on. So she went to Maria's house.

Maria opened the door. It was late in the afternoon so Mimi must have been at the wild pony. "Hi."

"Can I come in?"

"Sure. What do you want?"

"I know it was you who uploaded the video."

"Come in."

"The police took the computer that you used and that's where the video was uploaded from."

"So you thought you'd start spreading false rumors without having any proof?"

"Okay. So you won't mind if I tell Alex that I saw you using that computer that day?"

"No. Please don't."

"Why did you do it?"

"I don't know what came over me. It just happened."

"We're all friends. We have been friends since we were kids. How could you do this to Alex?"

"Alex has everything. Yeah, his dad was an asshole. But his mom kicked him out when Alex was a kid. He has a mom that loves him. He has brothers that look out for him. I don't have anything."

"Your mom loves you, Maria."

"My mom has Alzheimer's."

"It's the early stages. But it's only gonna get worse from now on. I am not smart like you and Alex. I'm not gonna be able to go to college. I'm barely handling high school. I'm gonna get stuck in this shitty town working at the wild pony, dealing with drunks all day every day; And take care of my sick mom when I get home. I don't have anything. And Alex… he has everything. And he gets to be with the next king? It’s not fair!"

"That doesn't give you the right. Alex is completely destroyed. And the Crown Prince! You outed him to the entire world! What is wrong with you?"

"It’s not like they can actually be together anyway. Michael is the future king. He needs a queen!"

"And what? You thought that could be you?" Liz scoffed.

"Are you going to tell them?"

"Of course I'm going to tell them. You stabbed Alex in the back. He has a right know."

"Liz, I…"

"Save it. I don't wanna hear it. Actually, I don't wanna hear from you ever again."

"Don't. you have grown up to be a back-stabbing vindictive liar. And I don't wanna be friends with you anymore."

Maria started sobbing as Liz walked out. Soon everyone would know what she had done.

Michael was dreading going back to the castle. He'd asked Alex to come to his room. He was scared and under a lot of stress, and he needed to see Alex. Alex was sitting on the ground, and Michael was lying down with his head in Alex's lap. Alex was playing with Michael's beautiful curls.

"Do they want you to stop seeing me?" Alex asked after a while.

"Yeah. I'm sure they do. But I don't want to."

"Will you tell them that?"

"I will. I want to be with you. You're right. They can't force me to make the statement. I'm gonna talk to my mom. She has to understand. They'll be here for me any minute. I have to get ready." Michael stood up and changed his clothes.

"How are you feeling?" Alex asked him.

"It feels like I'm gonna throw up."

"I'll call you later. You'll do just fine. You're brave." Alex leaned in and kissed him. Before he could pull away, Michael pulled him in for a hug.

"Thank you for not letting me go through this alone, Alex."

Alex walked Michael to the car that was waiting for him. When they got to the car, Queen Nora was waiting for her son. Michael was surprised, he was not expecting his mother to pick him up personally.

"I wanted us to have a few minutes alone." The queen explained.

"Hello." Alex told her. />
The Queen stepped forward and offered her hand. "Pleasure."

Alex took her hand and bowed his head in a curtsy. "Your majesty." Then turned to Michael. "See you."

"Good bye" Michael said as Alex walked away.

On the car ride to the castle, Michael tried to reason with his mother. "Why can't I have a relationship with him? And not say anything. Just live a normal life."

"You're the crown prince. And that's a privilege, not a punishment."

"Yes. But I didn't ask for this."

"Well. Nobody has ever, ever asked for this! You're the only one who can take over the throne after Max. Don't you understand that? You're so young. When you're young, love feels like the most important thing in the world. When I was your age, I too had an unfortunate romance. That was before I met your father. What I mean is, is it worth it? If you feel that the attention you've been getting so far is unacceptable, it's nothing compared to what you will endure for the rest of your life. We have a chance to cover this up. I urge you to take that chance. You may not get another."

That evening, Alex was playing video games with Flint, their mom was in the kitchen making dinner, and Liz was studying at the dining table. Flint's phone buzzed. He checked it and the color drained from his face. "Oh, shit." At the questioning looks from Alex and Liz, he said "The crown prince says that's not him in the video."

"What?" Alex went closer to take a look.

Flint kept reading so Liz and Mindy could hear, too. "The royal court denies the rumors that the Crown Prince appears in the video that has gone viral this past week. I started at Roswell High to focus on my studies and have therefore chosen not to get involved in any emotional relationships, says the Crown Prince. Everyone should be allowed to live as gay or straight or whatever they want, says the Crown Prince."

Alex was shocked and upset. He went to his room and closed the door. Liz went in after a few minutes to ask if he wanted anything to drink or eat. She hadn't told him yet that it Maria who leaked the video. She'd been waiting for the right time. And it looked like she needed to wait a little more. She didn’t want to make Alex more upset.

Alex checked his phone. He had a message from Michael. "Can I drop by your house and see you?"

"I don't know if I want to see you." Alex replied.

"I'm almost there. Please. I need to talk to you."

Alex grabbed his coat and went out to the back of the house. Michael was there with his bodyguard.

"I'm sorry. It was the only way. But this doesn't have to change anything between us. We're still us. It's just that we can't be seen together."

"If I'm someone you have to hide…"

"NO! Don't you realize the shit storm that follows if I come out?"

"You just expect everything to be on your terms. You need to figure out what you want. And you can take all the time you need. And I respect that. But you have to do it by yourself. I don't want to be anyone's secret."

Alex went back inside. Michael walked to his car with tears streaming down his face. He didn't want to imagine a life without Alex.

It was the last day of school before the Christmas break. Everyone were gathered in the yard saying their goodbyes.

Michael went to Alex. "You look good."

"Thanks." Alex smiled.

Michael hugged him and whispered in his ear "I'm sorry. I love you."

When he pulled back, Alex seemed to think about what to say to him. After a moment, he said "I hope you have a nice Christmas."

"Thank you, Alex." Michael left to his car. He knew one thing. He needed to do anything he could to prove to Alex that he wanted to be in his life. He would fix this. He has to. He is in love.

Chapter Text

"Good morning folks. Today is the day! This is the first Royal same-sex marriage in history. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Michael met his fiancé at Roswell High ten years ago. They were outed early in their relationship, and have had a very public life since. They've been the subject of many tabloids and gossip sites. Some royalists firmly believed that Prince Michael must marry a woman in order to produce an heir to the throne; but most people, especially the younger generation, stood up against the archaic and outdated idea, and believed he should marry for love. Prince Michael has been overwhelmed by the support and outpouring love from the people, and he promises that he definitely plans on having a family with the man he loves, and he will have biological children using a surrogate, and that he will do everything to the best of his ability to be a great king."

Alex mutes the TV as Liz and Rosa come in to have breakfast with him. He's nervous and he appreciates the company. The Ortecho sisters have been helping him get ready for the wedding. Michael has been so busy with his royal duties, and has left the wedding preparations to Alex. Of Course, Isobel swooped in to help out and she's basically been their wedding planner.

After breakfast, it was time for him to get ready. He put on his suit and someone came in to fix his hair and put a little make-up on him.

"Ready to go?" Alex turns around, he hadn't noticed Flint coming in. Flint is his best man. They walk to the ballroom, and stop right outside the door. Mindy is there waiting for them.

Flint fixes Alex's crooked tie. "Do you need anything? A mint, a getaway car?"

Alex laughs. "No. Thanks. I'll see you inside."

Flint nods his head and goes inside ahead of him. Mindy takes Alex's arm and they walk inside. Hundreds of people are at the ceremony. And the wedding is being broadcasted live on television. Everyone in the world is watching him right now. He looks around. He knows everyone there. Their friends and relatives, and of course, royals from other countries have come to the wedding. Michael is a future King and his wedding is a state affair. Everybody who is anybody is here.

Alex spots Michael and their eyes meet. As Alex walks towards his soon to be husband, he feels his anxiety leave his body. He feels calm and before he knows it, he is standing right in front of him. Michael smiles widely at him and takes his hands into his own.

When the time comes for them to exchange vows, Michael goes first. "Alex, I fell in love with you from the moment I saw you. You are gorgeous, smart, brave and resilient, and I am the luckiest man in the world to have you. Choosing you and having you in my life is a privilege. I promise I will never look away. No one else could ever compare to you. You are the only person I have ever loved in my life. And I look forward to spending every day of the rest of my life with you."

Alex is fighting back tears. He smiles and says: "Michael, I love you with every fiber of my being. I promise I will always have your back. And I will always be by your side."

They exchanged rings, and when they were told they could kiss, Michael took Alex's face in both his hands and gave him a passionate kiss. Then they turned to walk out hand in hand. They stopped in front of Queen Nora to bow their heads. As they are walking out, Michael brings Alex's hand to his mouth and places a kiss on the back of his hand.

At the reception, Isobel is sitting between her mother, and Kyle.

"You've done a great job with the ceremony, Isobel." Louise tells her daughter.

"Thank you mother. Too bad Duke Noah couldn't be here. He's in prison, he got caught embezzling from his clients. I never liked him."

"I know. You were right to turn him down. And you chose very well with Kyle."

Isobel and Kyle had gotten secretly engaged a few days ago. They are going to wait an appropriate amount of time, and announce their engagement next year. Isobel definitely intends to marry the man he loves. If Michael could do it, so can she.

Queen Nora stands to announce Alex formally, and then the happy couple will have their first dance. "Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, Your Imperial Highnesses, friends and family, thank you for joining us on this wonderful day. Today, I welcome someone very special into my family. Alex, you have made my son a very happy man. And I will forever be grateful. I am certain you will support Michael, and serve your country very well. Everyone, please welcome His Royal Highness Prince Alexander of Antar."

The crowd whistles and applauds as Michael and Alex walk to the dance floor. The music starts playing and they start their first dance as a married couple.

As they move to the music, Michael steals a kiss from his husband. Alex giggles.

"I can't wait to fuck you in every room of this castle." Michael whispers in his ear.

"Every room? This place is so big. There are a lot of rooms."

"Then we better get started."

And they lived happily ever after.
