Summary:

Nie Mingjue clenches his fists at his sides, as if he couldn’t crush Jin Guangyao’s windpipe with his bare hands. As if he hasn’t fantasized doing that exact thing, over and over. “Stop fooling around. We need to find Xichen and leave.”

“Er-ge is fine. You, on the other hand…” He looks away, coy and submissive. His eyes flick back to Nie Mingjue, now coupled with an absolutely disgusting smile. “At the end of it all, even the mighty Chifeng-zun is flesh and blood. And what does flesh and blood do?”

The flames rage around them, licking at the bottoms of Jin Guangyao’s robes. If it hurts him, he doesn’t show it.

“It burns.”

One week before his death, Nie Mingjue constantly teeters on the edge of qi deviation. In an effort to soothe his soul, Nie Huaisang begs Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao to take him on a simple night hunt to help him relax.

It is anything but simple.
