Steve gets home and goes straight to the living room he left Billy in, expecting Billy to be asleep on the couch, but he's not there, and Steve frowns.
"Billy?" He calls, and he smiles when he hears Billy call from the kitchen.
"In here." Steve walks into the kitchen and grins when he sees Billy cooking dinner. "You hungry?" Billy asks, and Steve nods, walking over and wrapping his arms around Billy's waist, resting his chin on his shoulder so he can see what he's cooking.
"You found pesto?"
"It's amazing what you find when you open a cupboard."
"Thank you." He mumbles, presses a kiss to Billy's cheek, and Billy smiles, grabs Steve and pulls him round so he's in front of him, kissing him softly.
"Can't let you starve, can I?" Steve shakes his head fondly, presses a sweet kiss to Billy's lips.
"Thank you for today."
"Do anything for you, Harrington. You know that."
"I really appreciate it." Billy kisses him softly before holding Steve close to his chest whilst he stirs the pasta.
"Did he say anything?" He asks, and Steve nods, a shy smile on his lips.
"He said he likes you." He chuckles at the surprise on Billy's face.
"Really?" Steve nods.
"He said there are versions of you, like you're three people, and that Billy 1 is scary and cool, Billy 2 is a protective big brother that is still scary, and Billy 3 is nice and not scary at all, and apparently he likes Billy 3, and that Billy 1 isn't really you." Billy raises an eyebrow.
"Why did he explain it like a boss battle?" Steve laughs.
"That's what I said! Apparently it made sense to him. Anyway I may have accidentally told him I lo- I like you," Steve blushes at his slip up, but Billy doesn't mention it, "And he said you must feel the same or you wouldn't have let me past version 1."
"He's not wrong." Billy says matter-of-factly, and Steve grins at him.
"He said you're less angry now..." Steve hesitates, not sure he wants to out what Max told Dustin and deciding that he doesn't. "He said I should tell you I like you." Billy chuckles.
"You do? You should have said." He teases, and Steve blushes.
"Asshole." Billy just laughs harder.
"I like you too Harrington."
"Aww, really?" Billy rolls his eyes fondly.
"So do you wanna tell him the truth?" Steve shrugs.
"He'll be okay with it. And it will be one less person to hide from." Billy can see that Steve wants to tell him, that hiding it from Dustin is hard.
"Sounds like you want to tell him." He says softly, and Steve looks him in the eye nervously.
"Do you want to tell him?" Billy shrugs.
"It makes no difference to me, pretty boy, but he's practically your brother."
"He likes you. And he was, like, trying to convince me to tell you so I know he's not opposed to the idea."
"Then we should tell him."
"Really?" Billy shakes his head fondly.
"Yeah really, now come on, foods ready." Steve grins, pecks Billy's lips softly before sliding out of his grip to get bowls.
They sit at the kitchen table to eat their pasta, and Steve grabs a candle to put between them whilst Billy grabs the food, and Billy teased him for it but he kissed him as he set the food down and he holds Steve's hand on the table, and Steve just smiles to himself because he's so in love with this boy.
"You know, I've been meaning to ask you..." Billy says and Steve looks over at him, nervous. They finished their food a while ago and are now cuddled up on the sofa.
"When you came round, that night I kissed you," Steve blushes at the memory, a small smile on his lips, "What did you want? Like, you turned up, but my dad got home before you could say anything. What did you come round for?" Billy asks, and Steve blushes brighter.
"I, er, I said Max asked me to check on you." Billy smirks.
"But we both know that isn't true." He teases, and Steve knew Billy would find out, but he didn't realise he'd actually ask him about it.
"I, well... I didn't really have a plan, to be honest. I'd spent like 2 hours on the phone to Robin cause you messed up my head, like, you should ask her I was a full on disaster," Billy chuckles and Steve smiles fondly, "But I just wanted to see you. Figured I'd come up with some excuse when I got there. I just, I dunno, I guess I was hoping I'd suddenly grow some balls and tell you I think you're hot." Billy chuckles, grabs Steve's face and kisses him hard on the lips.
"You're hot too, darlin'."
"Well yeah but you're like, ridiculously hot, like, fucking, sculpted by Gods hot, like, crazy out of my league hot, and that's scary, like how do you expect people to just be able to tell you how hot you are without fearing for their life? Also I didn't know you were bi, like for all I knew you were homophobic and would have beat the shit out of me." Billy's eyes are shining like he didn't expect that response, and he knows he's hot, but people hit on him all the time, so he didn't think it would be that scary. But he gets the homophobia fear, knows all too well how people treat you if they so much as suspect you as gay.
"I get the homophobia thing, but damn Harrington if you think I'm out of your league you must be out of your mind."
"I mean have you seen you!?" Billy laughs, buries his face in Steve's neck, nips at the skin just because, before leaning back and looking him in the eye.
"You're some kind of beautiful, Harrington." He says, all sincere and full of love, and Steve cups his face and pulls him into a deep kiss.
