Chapter Text

During afternoon the maid café was full of people, there was not a single minute break. As you were to get the jasmine tea leaves you just noticed the can was empty.

-Shin? Do we have any jasmine tea left?

-Uh? -He didn’t even raise his head of the parfait he was making as he gave you a half-hearted answer. – it should be in the back storage.

-Ok. I’ll go get it. Is there anything else we’re running out?

He placed the finished cup on the tray for Ikki to get when he came back to the kitchen and turned his head to you.

-Peaches.

You nodded and went to the storage and sighed. Since a week or so you felt very tired and with the stomach a little upset. You sensed a stomach bug on its way to hit you like a truck and you didn’t know what to do to avoid it. You tried to ignore the uncomfortableness and forced yourself to keep on working even when you were counting the minutes before your schedule finished for the day so you could crawl into your bed and rest. You got the peaches and set them aside as you got into a small ladder to reach for the tea leaves. As you stretched as far as you could to get them, you felt a wave of dizziness that made you grab the shelf for support.

-Hey! What’s taking you so much time? -you heard Shin’s voice approaching. - You’re so slow that the water’s been boiling for a while now. Hey, are you ok?

You turned your head towards the sound too fast and another wave hit you making you see increasing black spots in your vision and lose your balance. Luckily, he caught you before you hit the floor, crashing you between him and the shelf in his dash to avoid the fall.

-Hey? Hey! – he was filled with worry as his grip got stronger to keep you in place.

Little by little, you felt your vision starting to clear up and your strength returning.

-I’m… fine. I just got dizzy. – you replied weakly.

He furrowed his frown, not convinced. He loosed his embrace but maintained his arms close to you in case you collapsed again. His eyes searched in yours for answers.

-What’s happening here!?

Both of you turned to the open door. Ikki was looking at both of you with a scowl.

-Nothing. – you said calmly as you turned your back to him and gave Shin a warning glance so he didn’t say anything unnecessary that made Ikki worry. Shin pursed his lips but added no more. He got the tea leaves and the peaches and left the room without word.

-Are you going to tell me what happened? – He crossed his arms.

-I told you. Nothing. I was about to fall the ladder and he got me. That’s it. -you said as you passed by him.

He caught your arm before you could go out the storage and pushed you against him as he clashed his lips against you, as if he was trying to devour you. His hand rested on the back of your head, preventing you to break the kiss. Once he was satisfied with the state he left you, he turned and continued working as if nothing happened.

During the rest of your working hours, Shin did most of the work allowing you to take it easier.

The following days weren’t better. On Monday, it was Toma’s turn instead of Ikki and you regretted not having asking him to change timetables for a day because you were feeling even more out of the weather and a free day seemed like heaven right now. You could feel Shin’s eyes on you during the preparation of the dishes and drinks as you tried your best not to let your feelings shown. But all your efforts were wasted as you felt a nausea and run to the nearest trash and emptied your stomach there. When it seemed to end, you saw a bottle of water next to you.

-Have you gone to the doctor? – Shin asked in concern.

-No… it’s just a stomach bug. I was feeling it coming for a while now. -you half emptied the bottle.

His eyes were fixed on you before he spoke:

-You should go. You’ve been sick for more than a week. It might be something else.

-Don’t be like Google, that every time I check the symptoms of anything, it says I’m 3 days late to die. – you rolled your eyes and he grabbed you by the arm.

-I’m serious. I don’t think it’s a stomach bug. – He avoided your eyes for a moment and added. – Haven’t you notice? You look sick each time you slice peaches.

You followed his gaze towards the table and realized that you were cutting peaches.

-I don’t follow

-You… -he bitted his bottom lip as if pondering if he should tell you or not and finally deciding. – you look like you’re about to puke whenever you smell peaches.

-What? You’re overthinking it. Why would I do such a thing?

He looked back at you as if to ask: “Are you going to make me say it?”.

-Are you implying that I… - you started calculating dates in your head. – No, that’s not possible.

-Can you be 100% sure? -He insisted.

-Well, no. But I’m very sure it’s something else. – he sighed loudly.

-Anyway, take the rest of the day off. If you really have a stomach bug we can’t let you work sick. I’ll let boss know so go change.

You did as you were told because you weren’t feeling any better. You changed to your casual clothes and took your phone. The screen flashed with a text of Ikki asking if you can meet him after work. You texted a fast reply explaining you were to meet Sawa. Even if you didn’t want to admit it, it was better to be safe than sorry. A pregnancy test was not expensive and that way you could sleep that night. You grabbed your purse and left the café. To your surprise, Shin was waiting for you at the door, already changed.

-What are you doing?

-I’m taking you home. I don’t want you to faint on your way. -He said brusquely.

You froze on the spot. You didn’t want him to know you were going to buy a test but you also didn’t want to sound suspicious.

His short fuse burnt and he took your hand to drag you outside before you could decide.

-Hey! Wait! – You complained.

-More? – He smirked.

You were too focused thinking in the excuse you could give him so you could buy the test on your way that you didn’t notice someone witnessed your exchange.

At the end, you couldn’t dodge him and you had to go out again to buy it once he left. The longest 3 minutes of your life passes in your house bathroom as the lines slowly appeared.

-Oh shit.

Positive.

False positive? It might be. The part of you that was freaking out really hoped for it. But there was another part of you that was in awe because it was something that Ikki and you did.

You felt your heartbeat deafening you as you pressed the doctor’s number to set a date on your next day off. As a regular check-up. Because maybe it was a false alarm.

As days were passing by and the doctor’s date was getting closer, your nerves was getting the best of you.

Shin didn’t say anything more, but his concerned eyes told you a different story.

By the end of the day you were so on the edge that you jumped when you hear your name.

-Tomorrow is you day off, right? It’s also mine so do you want to go somewhere? It’s been a while since the last time we could be all day together. – Ikki smiled as he kissed you on your temple.

-Uhh… I can’t on the morning. I’m going to meet Sawa.

-Sawa? – his eyes turned cold for a moment.

-Yes. But we can meet later if you don’t mind, you can come to my house.

That seemed to lighten his mood.

--Sure. I can’t wait.

If you thought the longest minutes of your life were the 3 of the test wait, it was worse the wait on the doctor office. When they called your name, your throat was dry and your hands sweaty. Maybe coming here alone was a bad idea. Maybe it was just a bad idea coming here, in general.

You took air in your lungs and went inside.

The examination turned to be also positive: you were pregnant. You barely register they explaining your options and coming back home.

Ikki was already at your home. You’ve exchanged keys until your house contract finish so you two were going to live together. His face turned from happy to worried in a flash.

-Are you ok?

You looked at him, wondering how should you explain to him the news.

-Yes. – you croaked.

-…

You looked around and left your coat in its place.

-… are you hiding something from me? -Ikki muttered.

-What? -you turned.

He was looking at the floor, but raised his head to meet your gaze.

-Are you hiding something?

-What would I be hiding? – you asked, afraid in case Shin had told him anything.

-How was Sawa? – he changed the topic catching you off-guard.

-Uh? Fine? – you replied as you seated next to him, on the floor cushions with your back on the bed.

-Where you shopping like the other day? Did you have fun? – he smiled

-Yes… it was nice.

He stopped smiling and stood up.

-I saw you. You weren’t with Sawa.

Your face’s colour drained and you raised yourself to grab his arm in desperation.

-I-I wanted to tell you but I didn’t know how. I was waiting for the best moment for that.

He grabbed you and pulled towards the bed.

-Did you think I wouldn’t notice when we work together? -his voice dripped so much pain that it was breaking your heart.

-At first I didn’t think much of it. I thought it was normal. – you tried to explain yourself.

-Normal? How can that be normal? – His grip of your wrists tightened.

-I-I don’t know Ikki. I’m sorry. If I knew this was going to hurt you I would have told you since the beginning. – you felt your vision blur as tears appeared.

-Not hurt me? Since the beginning? -His face twisted in pained rage. -How long is it that you and Shin…

-What, Shin? – you interrupted him.

-Yeah, Shin. I saw you together the other day in the storage and after that, you skipped my date with you saying that you were with Sawa but I saw her with her friends and when I went to the café I saw you going out from work holding hands and today…

-Ikki! -You put your hands on each side of his head and made him look at you on the eyes. -You got it all wrong. Shin was worried because I got sick so he took me home and today… I went to the doctor.

-Doctor? Are you sick? Are you hurtin--

Here goes nothing...

-I’m pregnant. – You interrupted saying it directly.

His eyes widened at lightspeed and he almost chocked on his words.

-Are you ok? -you asked, worried.

-Y-you are…

-pregnant. – you repeated when it was clear he wasn’t going to finish.

He turned without a word and sat on the bed.

-Ikki…?

As you sat down next to him he pulled you into a tight hug and buried his head on the crock of your neck.

He started kissing his way up to your jaw until he reached your lips. He poured all his feelings into you through his touch.

- Come live with me now. I can't wait anymore. - he said with a husky voice making you smile.

Chapter Text

She was bored, laying on her bed. Scrolling over the RFA app was entertaining so far. But not all the time was somebody online. She glanced up to the red haired man tapping on his laptop. Since the hacker started to attack, he’s been working non-stop. He didn’t even sleep. She knew it was for her own security but she felt neglected. The quirky and cheerful persona that was 707… she didn’t believe it was all a façade. She knew that deep down it was a part of Luciel’s personality, it didn’t matter all the times he tried to shoot it down. She was not going to give up, they had connected during the days they were texting each other and she was sure he felt it too. There was no way to fake the worrisome look he had when he entered Rika’s apartment to save her from the hacker even if after that all he had was conflict in his mind and the resolution of not pursueing any sort of personal relationship with her. He was angry at himself and regreted every choice that lead to that moment. He repeated he was dangerous but she didn’t think so, at least, not with her. Because, how can he be dangerous to her and at the same time protect her? He was self-sacrificing himself, he thought he was not worthy and he was trying his best to make it clear that he didn’t want to have anything to do with her.

Pity that she had other plans.

She offered him to sleep in the same bed teasingly and he played it as a joke. He was cold as ice to her but as time passed by, his determination bended and he stopped pushing her away. He started to think he wanted her to remember him even if he was to disappear. And the warm rush he felt as he was repairing Meowy and she confessed he was the only one who she said those kind of things… now that was dangerous.

She decided to stop her boredom as she flipped on the bed and stood up. She stretched paying attention to Luciel. He didn’t move an inch, tipping fast as a bunch of console commands rolled through the screen. That was her queue. She walked towards the temperature control of the room next to the bathroom, turned it up 10 degrees fast and went inside the bathroom. Once she came back, she sneaked a glance to the little screen that confirmed her changes. After a little, he started sweating and mumbling something under his breath. He rolled up his sleeves not to avail. She bit her bottom lip trying to supress a smile. Since she was in her summer pyjama, she had advantage. In less than 5 minutes, he took off the hoodie and turned his head to look at her. She was busying herself chatting in the messenger. He turned to the laptop again and sighed aloud as he stood up.

-What did you do this time? – He blamed her.

-Hmm? – she raised her head up from her mobile to see him going to decrease the temperature.

She seized the opportunity to put on his hoodie. She zipped it up midway, leaving her cleavage visible. It was oversized for her and it slipped off her shoulders. She brought her hands covered in his sleeves up her face. It smelled like him.

-What are you doing? – He crossed his arms over his chest.

-Nothing. – she shrugged.

-Yeah. Well, take it off.

-What? – she feigned innocence.

-You heard me. Take. It. Off. – He said as he came closer to her.

-Make me. – she dared as she put more distance between them.

He raised his arm to grab her by the sleeves but she avoided it dodging him in the last moment. She chuckled.

-Almost… - She said as she dodged him a second time.

He groaned.

-It’s not time for kid’s jokes. – he grunted as she slipped between his fingers.

She jumped into the bed to distance herself.

-Oh, but this is not a kid’s joke. – she confessed from up above.

He tackled her, she jumped out of the bed but it was too late. He caught her by the waist and pulled her down.

-Damn it.

She tossed and turned trying to free herself from his grip as he tried to have a better hold of her and prevent her escape. She tried to wiggle her way out as he pinned her hands over her head with one of his hands while the other slipped in her front to unzip the hoodie. She crashed on the bed to avoid it and his hand gripped her breast instead of the zip. His breath hitched.

-Hey! Stop moving! – he squeaked.

-Nop. Never. – she laughed at his reaction.

After a lot of effort, he finally managed to unzip it. She flipped to face him and he gasped. Her tank top slided during their tug war dangerously down and the parts that his clothe didn’t cover was glistening in sweat.

-But I want it… -she said breathy as she pouted and his brain short-circuited. - It’s comfy.

Right. The hoodie. He remembered to himself as his mind went to the gutter for a second.

-I don’t like people wearing my stuff.

She moved trying to avoid him taking it off when she noticed a hardness against her lower abdomen and looked teasingly to where their bodies connected as she bit her lips.

-Seems to me that you like it though. -she said with a smirk.

His face turned all red as he stood up at lightspeed and run to lock himself in the bathroom. She knocked at the door as she wondered if she had broken him.

-… you can have it… - his voice was muffled.

She smiled. Looks like this living together thing was going to be fun from then onwards.
