They were a week away from Christmas. The apartment he shared with his boyfriend has been decorated since the end of November. For the most part, Taehyung had been the one putting in all the effort. The artificial Christmas tree stood dressed with ornaments and twinkling colored lights beside the 50” flat screen tv. Along the border of the living room walls were a string of bright LED lights, casting the room in a crimson glow. On the wall above their couch, were four red stockings, each appropriately labeled: Taehyung, Yoongi, Yeontan, and Holly.
It wasn’t much, but he was proud of what he accomplished.
Taehyung was lying on the couch, staring blankly at the television as it played some drama he wasn’t paying any real attention to. Beside him, tucked up against his chest, Yeontan slept peacefully, while Holly was at the end of the couch, head resting on Tae’s crossed ankles. The three of them were comfortable in their laziness, warm despite the biting cold outside.
Yoongi, Taehyung’s long-term boyfriend, was once again working late. He was a well-known, producer and songwriter, and often had to stay late; especially if he was working on a new project. That was exactly the case.
A brand-new solo artist was set to make his debut within the next month, at the company Yoongi worked for. Being one of the best producers in the company, Yoongi was working closely with said artist. Taehyung, for the most part, didn’t mind. This wasn’t the first time his boyfriend had willingly thrown himself into his work and put everything else on the back burner.
However, this was the first time that he’d neglected Taehyung almost completely. Christmas was their holiday. They met at a college Christmas party, began dating the following year and even Yeontan had been Yoongi’s Christmas gift to Taehyung on their 4th anniversary. Never, in the 6 years that they’ve been dating, has Yoongi allowed anything to come between them, or their favorite time of the year.
From across the way, at the far end of the apartment, Taehyung heard a key sliding into the lock. Before the sound clicks, both dogs are off the couch, racing for the door. They were barking their excitement, as Yoongi opened the door and stepped inside.
"Watch out, watch out," Yoongi mumbled, trying not to step on the either dog, as they attempted to pounce on him.
After re-locking the front door, Yoongi maneuvered his way around their dogs, carrying whatever he had in his hands into their small kitchen. From his spot on the couch, Taehyung could hear the crinkling of plastic bags, as they were set on the counter. Taehyung was quick to suspect that his boyfriend had brought takeout for their dinner tonight.
“Taehyung-ah,” Yoongi called to him, his voice neutral. When Taehyung didn’t make any sound of acknowledgment, the elder tried again. “TaeTae, I brought dinner home. I wasn’t sure whether or not you had something to eat yet.”
At first, Taehyung thought about ignoring him completely, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Finally, he responded with, “I haven’t.” Taehyung then pushed himself into a sitting position. “I was waiting for you to get home, but then it started to get late, and I just put away what I pulled out for tomorrow night.”
From the couch, Taehyung could hear the elder pause in his movements, the rustling of the bags going silent. It was a full minute before Yoongi said anything again, “I’m sorry. I got caught up at the studio. Jimin was having a rough time getting one of the lines of the chorus right.” Yoongi chuckled lightly, as he continued to remove whatever it was that he brought home for them. “Turns out, he’s as much of a perfectionist as I am.”
If Taehyung rolled his eyes any higher, they’d completely disappear into the back of his head. Taehyung’s never met this new soloist, Jimin, but he disliked the idol already. If only for the fact that Yoongi’s been spending more of his precious time with him rather than at home, cuddling up with Taehyung.
Sure, he could choose to be upfront about it and tell his boyfriend that he hated how much time he was spending in the studio these days, but Taehyung knew that it was bound to cause an argument, in which Yoongi would point out Taehyung’s insecurities, reminding him of what he already knew; that Yoongi loved him and would never dream of doing anything that would purposefully hurt him. Yoongi loved his work, was dedicated to putting out only his best, and it was because of this that the elder often stayed late, striving to get each track just right.
Shoving his own thoughts to the back of his mind, Taehyung made his way into the kitchen, coming to stand behind the shorter male to look over his shoulder at the spread of food. Panda Express, his favorite. A smile tugged at the corners of his lips, Taehyung wrapping the elder into his arms, and resting his chin on his shoulder.
“I guess that just makes the two of you a good team,” Taehyung murmured closely to Yoongi’s ear, earning himself a laugh.
“More like we never get anything done.” Yoongi tilted his head back far enough to place a kiss on Taehyung’s cheek, slowly pulling away to grab them each a pair of chopsticks.
Moving closer to the counter, Taehyung grabbed what he knew to be his meal. Yoongi was always good about remembering exactly what Taehyung liked and disliked. Taking the chopsticks handed to him, he leaves the kitchen to sit at their two-person table; Yeontan and Holly following closely behind, taking position underneath his feet, lying in wait for crumbs to fall.
“You’re not working late tomorrow night, right?” Taehyung asked, glancing across from him as Yoongi took a seat at the table.
Yoongi’s brows pinched together, as if he had to think about it, before shaking his head. “I don’t think so. We’re meeting at the studio first thing in the morning and we should be done before two.” He took a generous bite, looking over at Taehyung curiously. “Why?”
Taehyung shrugged, trying to play it off as nothing important. “Just wondering.”
“Tae,” Yoongi frowned, knowing that there was more to it. He was busy, not blind.
The younger was never very good at hiding his emotions from his boyfriend. You’d think after spending six years together that Taehyung would have developed a skill for better concealing it. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the kind of person who could put on a smile whenever he was upset. Or maybe, Yoongi really could just read him like an open book.
“It’s just, tomorrow is Christmas Eve...” Taehyung says around a mouth full of food, swallowing before he continued. “I was hoping we could go out and see the lights together.”
Yoongi took a noticeable pause at that, and Taehyung actually had to look up at him before he answered. “Oh, yeah, sure. Sounds like a plan.”
“Why? Did you have plans already?” Taehyung inquired, returning to his orange chicken. “I thought you said you’d be done by two?”
“Yeah, I should be.” Yoongi shoveled in a few more bites, “but I think Namjoon wanted to get together afterwards though, and go over some things for his next album.”
“The one you’re featuring on, right?”
This wouldn’t be the first time Yoongi’s featured on an album. He’d worked with a couple of the rappers at the company, but it didn’t make it any less exciting. Yoongi was an underground rapper when they’d first met and still wrote songs for himself. Taehyung had always been a fan of Yoongi’s work – believing in his talent more than anyone else.
Yoongi nodded, “Yeah, he wants to go over some final touches tomorrow and since I was going to be at the studio working with Jimin anyway, I figured it would be the perfect chance.”
“Oh...” Taehyung could understand that, sure. “That’s cool. I mean, you won’t be there all day. We can still go and see some of the Christmas lights after.”
Across from him, Yoongi smiled, “Absolutely.”
They finished the rest of dinner in silence and once they were done eating, Taehyung offered to clean up, while Yoongi took his evening shower. As he was clearing the food from their plates, Taehyung snuck the two dogs circling his feet a couple bites of the leftovers. His weakness being their soft, adorable puppy eyes looking up at him every time he threw something away. Much like his boyfriend, the younger couldn’t resist a cute pout.
Once the kitchen was spotless and the dogs were fed (actual dog food this time), Taehyung made his way into the bedroom where Yoongi was pulling on a pair of basketball shorts, his blonde hair still damp from his shower. For a moment, Taehyung stood there in the doorway, watching as Yoongi tied the drawstrings and pulled on a black band T-shirt. His earlier thoughts were nowhere to be seen, as he watched the man he loved getting dressed.
“Tae,” Yoongi’s rough voice quickly snapped him from his daze. “You’re staring.” His tone was teasing, as he glanced over at the younger boy, a small smirk tugging on his lips.
A blush deepened the color of Taehyung’s cheeks, all the way up to the tips of his ears. Giggling softly, having been caught, Taehyung walked further into the room, rounding his side of the bed. “Can’t help it. You’re the most beautiful man in all of Korea. It’s hard not to stare, hyung.”
Yoongi shook his head, pulling the blankets back, before sitting on the edge of their queen-sized bed. “Apparently you haven’t looked in the mirror lately.” He then casts an accusatory look over his shoulder. “And what do you mean, ‘in all of Korea’? Shouldn’t it be ‘in the entire world’?”
“Hyung,” Taehyung plopped down on the mattress. “Have you seen Brad Pitt? That man is an Adonis!”
Rolling his eyes, Yoongi couldn’t help but laugh as he joined Taehyung under their blankets. “Okay, fine, I’ll give you that. Brad Pitt is pretty hot, but there’s no way he’s hotter than you.”
“Hyung,” Tae whines, as he moved closer to Yoongi, hiding his face against the elder’s shoulder. “You can’t just say things like that!”
“Why not?” Yoongi asked, tilting his chin down to look at the younger. “It’s true. No one compares to you, Taehyung-ah.”
“But there are so many others out there that are way better than me in everything.” Bottom lip jutting out, Taehyung stared up at Yoongi.
“Have I ever lied to you?”
Tae shook his head. Never.
“Then believe me when I tell you that you’re the most handsome, beautiful, talented man on this planet, Kim Taehyung.” Leaning down, Yoongi closed the small distance between the two of them, firmly pressing his lips against Taehyung’s pouty ones.
Taehyung instantly melts into the kiss, wrapping his arms around the smaller man and hugging him closer. “Fine, I believe you,” he conceded once they pulled apart.
“Good.” Yoongi pecked his lips once more, before rolling over and grabbing the remote off his nightstand, turning the television on, and opening the Netflix app.
Resuming the drama that Taehyung tended to be watching whenever he came home, the two of them were cuddled up in bed, their legs tangled together with Taehyung as the big spoon. Normally it was Yoongi cuddling Taehyung, but tonight they switched it up a bit.
It was a half an hour later, that Taehyung felt as Yoongi’s breathing began to even out – sleep pulling him under. Burying his face against the curve of Yoongi’s neck and shoulder, Taehyung lightly placed a kiss there, whispering softly, “For the record, you’re way better than Brad Pitt.”
Yoongi let out a soft sigh, scooting back even more into Taehyung’s arms. He mumbled, sleepily, “Love you, TaeTae.”
“Love you too, Yoongi.”
The next morning, Taehyung wasn’t surprised when he woke up to find that Yoongi’s side of the bed was empty. Rolling over, he grabbed his cellphone to check the time. The time read 09:55 AM. Yoongi had been gone for hours by now.
Groaning, he unlocked his phone and saw that there were two missed calls from Jungkook and a text message from Yoongi. Ignoring the calls for now, he opened his text messages, scanning over them quickly.
KittyYoongs 07:45 AM:
TaeTae, I went ahead and walked the dogs before I left. I’ll call you when I’m on my way home tonight. Ily
Even though Taehyung knew Yoongi wouldn’t be checking his messages anytime soon, especially since he was working, he decided to send a reply all the same.
You 09:58 AM:
Have a good day Yoongles! Ily2
Getting out of bed, Taehyung took a few extra minutes to play with Holly and Yeontan, only stopping when his phone went off. Crawling back onto the bed, he grabbed the small device, and answered it, “Hello?”
“Hyung!” It was Jungkook.
“What’s up, Kook-ah?” Taehyung asked, as he headed into the bathroom to wash his face, and brush his teeth – putting his friend on speaker phone, as he started his morning routine.
“I thought we were going to finish our Christmas shopping this morning?” Jungkook asked, breathing a little heavily, like he was walking at a fast pace.
Taehyung spat out a mouthful of toothpaste. “We still are...”
“You said we would be leaving super early. It’s already 10 o’clock!”
“Sorry, I forgot to set an alarm last night. I’m getting ready now.”
“Good, because I’m outside of your apartment now,” and as he said this, Taehyung heard both dogs rushing out of the bedroom, and running for the door, barking loudly. Using the key Taehyung had given him, Jungkook let himself in. “Hyung?”
The call disconnected as Jungkook hung up. Shaking his head, Taehyung called to the younger, “In here Kook!”
A few seconds later, Jungkook’s smiling face appeared in the doorway to his bathroom, bunny teeth on full display. “Morning, Tae-hyung.”
“Morning Kookie,” Taehyung greeted, leaning over the sink to rinse out his mouth. “You’re up early.”
“Unlike some people,” he said, moving behind Taehyung to place the toilet seat down so that he could sit. “I remembered to set my alarm clock.”
Taehyung apologized, “Sorry, Yoongi came home late last night and I kind of forgot once we made it to bed.”
“Another late night?” Jungkook frowned, “Jimin again?”
Jungkook was Taehyung’s best friend since grade school. He was only a couple years older than Jungkook, and saw the younger like a little brother. He told him everything, even his frustrations over Yoongi spending so much time with the new idol.
“He’s set to debut in a couple months and apparently he’s as much a perfectionist as Yoongi is.” Taehyung jerked his chin, motioning for Jungkook to move, kicking him out of the bathroom so he could use it. Once he was finished, and his hands were washed, Taehyung joined his friend in the bedroom.
“You haven’t told him how you feel about that yet, have you?” Jungkook sat in the middle of the bed, Holly nestled inside his lap.
“There’s no point.” Taehyung shrugged, discarding his pajamas and pulling out a pair of skinny jeans that were ripped at the knees, and a simple black turtleneck. “Once Jimin debuts, Yoongi will have more time off and things will go back to normal.”
“Hyung, you don’t know that for sure. I still think you need to talk to Yoongi about all this.”
Taehyung sighed, “Maybe you’re right. We’re supposed to be going out tonight to see some of the Christmas lights. I’ll bring it up then.”
“Good.” Jungkook said, seriously, “I hate seeing you hurting like this and keeping it all to yourself. It’s not good for you or your relationship.”
Taehyung smiled, nice and wide. “Well, I don’t keep it all to myself, I tell you, don’t I?”
Jungkook rolled his eyes at the logic, but smiled back all the same. “That’s not what I meant and you know it.”
“Sure, sure.” Pulling on a jacket, Taehyung slipped on a pair of socks and headed out of the bedroom. “So, where to first?”
“Jin-hyung is the first one on my list and then Hobi-hyung.” Jungkook was beside Taehyung, slipping his shoes back on.
“Why do we always wait until the last minute to get everyone Christmas gifts?” Taehyung complained, tying the laces of his shoes.
“Because we spend all of our free time playing Overwatch and procrastinating.”
Taehyung wanted to argue, but it was the truth. The two of them left the apartment and braved the busy shops in search of something just right for their friends. Looking at the time, Taehyung decided to call Yoongi around when he typically took a lunch. He knew better than to call his cellphone, going through the secretary. What he hadn’t been expecting was to be put through to Namjoon’s cell instead, although it made sense, given the fact that they were supposed to be working together.
“What do you mean, he’s not with you?” Taehyung had his phone pressed tightly against his ear, listening to the elder on the other end. He placed his bags down on the table, having just got home. Jungkook dragged him to every store promising discounts and sales. He’d been all over town, so much so that his legs felt sore.
Namjoon sighed, “I’m telling you he’s not here, Tae.”
“But he said last night that you two were going to go over some final things for your album.” His heart was pounding hard in his chest, loud in his ears.
“Sorry Taehyung, but we never had plans to get together today.” Namjoon sounded sincere when he apologized. “I left the studio a couple hours ago and he wasn’t even there.” The older male paused for a second, “Come to think of it, I haven’t really seen him all day.”
Now he was really starting to panic. Had Yoongi lied to him? If he wasn’t at the studio, then where the hell had he been all day?
Taehyung soon ended the call with Namjoon, slipping his phone onto the coffee table, and sank against the couch. He pulled his knees to his chest, checking the time on the cable box. It was just after 6 o’clock in the evening. He’d wanted to shower and change into something cute and warm, before his night out with Yoongi.
It was no surprise that his boyfriend wasn’t home yet, so instead of getting upset about it, he put his mind on the task of getting ready for their date. It was when it started to get late in to the evening, 8 o’clock rolling around, and Yoongi still wasn’t home, that Taehyung tried calling again, only to have it go straight to voicemail.
You 8:38 PM:
Yoongles?? Namjoon-hyung says he hasn’t seen you all day? I tried calling…can you call me please?
Taehyung tried not to think about the possibilities of what Yoongi could be doing right this moment. More importantly, who he could be doing them with. Wanting to keep his mind busy, Taehyung went into the kitchen and made himself dinner. Originally, he’d hoped the two of them would eat while they were out, but oh well.
Time continued to go by, maddeningly slow, and still Yoongi didn’t call or text. Taehyung tried to call again, once again being forwarded to voicemail.
He sent another text message, concerned.
You 9:15 PM:
Yoongi…please I’m starting to get worried…
You 9:35 PM:
You said you were working with Jimin today…
Did you lie to me?
You 9:50 PM:
…Yoongi please call me. Are you with Jimin?
I just want to know you’re ok
You 10:06 PM:
You’re still ignoring my calls…
Idc if you’re with him, just please let me know your ok
I think I’m going to go to Kooks tonite
And then finally, nearly an hour later, he saw the three little dots indicating that Yoongi was typing. Taehyung held in his breath, as he waited for the text to come through. His hands shaking and his heart beating, wildly.
KittyYoongs 11:00 PM:
Come to the studio.
I need to talk to you.
I’m sorry, Tae
Taehyung felt a sob come up from his chest, covering his mouth to keep it from escaping. His eyes felt hot with tears that refused to spill. He wouldn’t cry, he couldn’t cry. Maybe a part of him had seen this coming? After all, Yoongi’s been spending so much time away from home, away from him. Maybe he got tired of Taehyung’s childish antics?
As he was trying to pull himself together, another text message comes through, making his phone vibrate on the seat of the couch, where he’d dropped it.
KittyYoongs 11:13 PM:
If you can, come asap. This is really important.
Swallowing the lump in his throat, Taehyung somehow managed to get to his feet and walk across the room to the front door. There, both Holly and Yeontan are looking up at him, whimpering softly, as if they could sense his inner turmoil. Carefully, he petted the both of them, before he slipped on his shoes and grabbed his coat, leaving the apartment.
The company Yoongi worked for was located pretty close to the apartments they shared together. When Yoongi first got the job, he remembered feeling so lucky that they’d scored a place so close, and celebrated with a house warming party amongst their closest friends. Now, if Taehyung’s dreaded thoughts were correct, he would probably be rooming with Jungkook after tonight.
A glance down at his phone told him that it was half an hour before midnight. It would officially be Christmas morning in just 30 minutes. It seemed fitting, didn’t it? They met on Christmas, made their relationship official on Christmas, now…now they would be ending it on Christmas.
Despite what he told himself earlier about crying, Taehyung couldn’t stop the tears that began to fall. They were cold on his cheeks, but he didn’t wipe them away. Instead, he ducked his head into the fur of his coat and continued walking the short distance to the building that housed Yoongi’s studio.
It was 15 minutes before midnight when Taehyung finally arrived. Security allowed him entrance, recognizing him as Yoongi’s boyfriend. He’s been there enough times, that most of the staff knew him by name. He was even friendly with some. What he didn’t expect when he entered the building was to be greeted by a boy close to his age, with bright pink hair.
The smile on his face was warm and friendly, his eyes disappearing into two crescent shapes. “Are you Kim Taehyung?”
“Uh,” he hesitated to answer, looking around briefly for someone he might know. When he saw no one else, Taehyung turned back to the boy and nodded, “Yeah, I’m Taehyung.”
“I’m glad we finally have the chance to meet.” The boy smiled even wider and when he does, Taehyung notices that one of his front two teeth are chipped. Weirdly enough, it doesn’t take away from how cute he is. “Yoongi-hyung talks about you a lot.”
Confused, Taehyung looked the boy up and down, “You know Yoongi?”
“I do. We’ve been working pretty closely since my debut is happening soon.”
Oh. So this was Park Jimin. The one Yoongi’s been spending all of his time with. He felt his stomach drop. Jimin was cute, and had a friendly personality. No wonder Yoongi liked him.
“Anyway, it’s almost time and I still need to take you up to the studio. Yoongi’s waiting for you.”
He didn’t need reminding, especially from him.
Taehyung didn’t say anything else, nodding his understanding, and even though he knew the way, he let Jimin take the lead.
The entire way there, Taehyung listened to Jimin as he talked about all the great things Yoongi had said about him. Hearing him, but not really hearing him at the same time. The blood rushing in his ears was too loud, his heart beating so hard that it was a wonder it was still in his chest. When the elevator dinged for their floor, Jimin stepped aside as the steel doors open.
“Don’t look so nervous. Yoongi’s been planning this for a while and I’m so happy I could be apart of it all.” Jimin was beaming with happiness. Giddy almost.
Nodding his head, Taehyung wordlessly walked passed Jimin and into the corridor. The elevator doors closed behind him and then he was alone. It took Taehyung nearly an entire minute to gain the courage to force his feet into motion. Taking him down the hallway, passing doors that would lead into different studios, but Yoongi’s was the very last one on the left-hand side. A “Keep Out” mat sitting just outside the door.
Yoongi liked his privacy. He hated when people would come into his personal space without permission. When they first met, it was a rule that Taehyung had trouble following. He was a people person and enjoyed being as close to his friends as he possibly could. Eventually, Yoongi had given up on keeping Taehyung out of his personal bubble and accepted it. Taehyung was the only one he allowed this luxury and even to this day, he was the only one who had the code to Yoongi’s private studio.
Punching in the four-digit code, the date and year of when they first became an official couple, Taehyung waited for the beep, before turning the handle, and letting himself in.
When he entered the room, Taehyung immediately noticed that it was completely dark. Even the light from the corridor wasn’t enough to illuminate it and once the door closed behind him, Taehyung was cast into total darkness. Was Yoongi even here to begin with?
“Hyung?” Taehyung called out, his voice quivering as his emotions threatened to overwhelm him. This, this was the moment when everything ended for him. He was seconds from losing the love of his life and his entire world with him. Clearing his throat, he tried again, this time forcing his voice to be steadier. “Yoongi, are you in here? Why is it so dark?”
Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he swiped open the screen, using the bright light to find his way back to the wall in search of the light switch. Taehyung failed to see the time at the center of his lock screen.
Just as he reached the switch, flipping it on, the time rolled over to midnight and with his back turned, he didn’t see the man kneeling down to one knee behind him. He nearly screamed in terror when he turned around, finding Yoongi bent down in front of him.
With his hand over his erratic heart, Taehyung stared down at the elder, speechless as he tried to convince himself to calm down. At this rate, he was going to go into cardiac arrest.
“Y-Yoongi!” He cried out, swallowing hard, his voice not wanting to work properly, words coming out strained. “What are yo-“
Yoongi was quick to interrupt him. “Taehyung, you’re the most amazing human being I’ve ever met. You’re sweet and caring, putting everyone else’s wellbeing before your own.”
“Hyung...” Yoongi couldn’t possibly be doing what he thought he was doing. Taehyung came here expecting Yoongi to break up with him. Not…not this!
“I’m an incredibly lucky man to have met someone like you, Tae. Your smile is like the sun, your laugh is capable of making even the shittiest of days better.” Yoongi took a moment, breathing in deeply, trying to keep his own emotions in check. As it was, Taehyung couldn’t stop himself as tears welled up in his eyes, this time for an entirely different reason.
“These last six years with you, have been the best of my life. We have our disagreements, like any couple, but we never go to bed angry, and we always talk things out.” The elder then reached for something in his pocket, pulling out a small, black velvet box. Opening it reveals a silver ring, encrusted with six little diamonds.
Yoongi’s dark brown eyes looked back up at Taehyung and it was then that he could see the love and adoration reflecting back at him. How could Taehyung ever doubt this man's love for him, when it was so clearly staring at him. He hated himself for even thinking the worst was coming tonight.
“Kim Taehyung, will you ma-“
Taehyung didn’t even give him a chance to ask before shouting his answer. “Yes! Yes, I will!”
Yoongi lips tugged back into a large gummy smile, chuckling as he shook his head. “Will you please let me do this properly? I spent months planning this and I was nervous as hell to this today.”
Holding back a laugh, Taehyung returned Yoongi’s gummy smile with his own boxy one. Nodding with excitement as he closed his mouth, letting Yoongi continue.
“I want nothing more than to spend every single minute of our lives together. You’re the center of my world and I can’t possibly see myself without you in it.” Taking the ring out of his box, Yoongi took Taehyung’s left hand into his own. “Will you marry me, Taehyung?”
This time he didn’t shout his answer, instead he nodded over and over again, practically bouncing where he stood. The metal was cool as Yoongi slipped it onto his ring finger, settling perfectly; not too big, and not too small.
With the ring on, Taehyung pulled Yoongi to his feet and hugged him tightly, kissing all over his face, before finally his lips. Taking his time to explore Yoongi’s mouth, pouring all his love and happiness into it, hoping that he could feel just how much Taehyung loved him and would always love him.
When they finally parted, Yoongi wasn’t able to hide just how happy he was. “I’m sorry I worried you. I saw your texts and calls, but I wanted to keep everything a secret. I hated lying to you.”
Taehyung shook his head. “It’s okay, I understand. I honestly came here thinking the worst was about to happen, and I’m so, so happy this was the outcome instead.” He leaned his head forward, until their foreheads were touching. “I love you so much, Yoongi, you’ve no idea.”
Yoongi chuckled, using his thumbs to wipe away the tears streaming down Taehyung cheeks, and pulling him down to kiss him again, lingering for a moment. “I think I have an idea.” He placed another kiss to the tip of Taehyung’s nose, right over the little mole he loved so much.
“Merry Christmas, Taehyungie, and happy anniversary.”
Taehyung giggled, hugging Yoongi close, as he buried his face against the elder’s neck. “Merry Christmas, Yoongles. This was the best anniversary gift anyone could ask for.”
With the initial shock wearing off, Taehyung was finally able to take in his surroundings. The normally dull workspace, was decorated with flowers and pictures of their best moments, some in the form of selfies, while others had been taken by their friends. Yoongi even had a banner pinned to the wall above his computer. Most of his equipment had been moved to one side of the room, leaving space for a small table adorned with all of Taehyung’s favorite sweets, including chocolate covered strawberries. It was simple really, but very Yoongi.
Yoongi moves across the room to the plate of chocolate strawberries, picking one up and turning back towards Taehyung as the younger comes up behind him. At first, Taehyung reaches out to take the fruit himself, only for Yoongi to pull his hand back, keeping it just out of reach. Smiling, Taehyung leans forward and opens his mouth, allowing the elder to feed him. With a satisfying grin, Yoongi then chooses one for himself.
Half a plate of strawberries later, Yoongi poured the two of them each a glass of champagne. “Look at the inside of the ring.” Yoongi says, glancing over his shoulder.
Looking down at his hand, Taehyung affectionately runs his thumb over the six little diamonds, admiring the way they gleamed in the studio lighting. Pulling the band off his finger, he angles it carefully to see the engraving: MYG~KTH 12/25/18. Today’s date.
Taehyung’s heart swells at the sight.
A glass appears in his line of vision, and Taehyung looks up at Yoongi’s smiling face. “I wanted it to be perfect, like you deserve.” He says as Taehyung takes the offered drink. “That’s why it took so long, because I had your ring custom made. The six diamonds represent the number of years we’ve been together, along with our initials and the date of our engagement.”
Taehyung grins fondly, lightly brushing his finger over the engraving, and slipping it back on his ring finger, right where it belonged. “It’s beautiful and I love it.”
“I thought you would.” He sips his drink, eyes focused entirely on Taehyung. “This is actually the second ring. The first one didn’t come out to my liking, so I had to send it back. It then took almost two months for it to he crafted and delivered. In the meantime, Jimin helped me figure out the smaller details.” He lets out a chuckle, shaking his head. “All of this, was mostly his idea.”
Taehyung felt a stab of guilt go through his heart as his chest tightened. Taehyung couldn’t believe that for even a small moment, he thought there was something going on between the two of. How could he ever harbor such unbelievable thoughts?
His guilt must’ve shown in his expression, because Yoongi’s hand soon found its way into Taehyung’s. “Tae,” His voice takes on a concerned tone. “What’s wrong?”
Entwining their fingers, Taehyung gives Yoongi’s hand a light squeeze. Now that they were engaged, Taehyung knew he should open about his depressing thoughts towards Jimin. Expect he didn’t want to, too afraid it would ruin the moment.
Yoongi gently tugs on Taehyung’s hand, bringing his attention back to him. “Talk to me, babe. I can’t fix it if you don’t talk to me.”
Taehyung doesn’t meet Yoongi’s gaze for more than a couple seconds, biting down on his bottom lip. Sighing heavily, Taehyung knows he can’t keep this bottled up any longer. “I may have let my imagination get the better of me lately.”
There was confusion written all over Yoongi’s face. “I don’t understand. What do you mean, you let your imagination get the better of you?”
Putting the glass of champagne down, Taehyung rubs at the back of his neck, a nervous habit. “I may or may not have, convinced myself that there was something going on between you and Jimin.” The elder said nothing, giving a single nod for Taehyung to continue.
“You’ve been spending so much time here with him, that I barely see you anymore.” Yoongi had his mouth open, but Taehyung quickly goes on. “Which I know isn’t unusual, but I couldn’t stop myself from being somewhat jealous. Then today when I called, you didn’t pick up and after talking to Namjoon-hyung, and he told me he hasn’t seen you all day, I thought the worst. Especially after your text messages.”
Yoongi waits to make sure that Taehyung was done before speaking. “You know, or at least I hope you know, I would absolutely never, hurt you like that Taehyung. You mean way too much to me. I didn’t want to ignore your calls, but I was worried that I’d spoil the surprise somehow, if I talked to you before getting everything set up here. I asked Namjoon to tell you something to throw you off. As for the text messages…” Yoongi’s own guilt washed over his face. “I’m sorry about that. I was so damn nervous that my hands were shaking. I probably could’ve worded things a little less dramatically.”
Taehyung nods. While Yoongi was a lyrical genius, he often had trouble expressing himself and now that he was thinking a little more clearly, it made sense. He really should’ve brought all of his doubts up sooner.
“I’m sorry, Yoongi.” Taehyung pouts. “I should’ve said something sooner.”
“Probably,” Yoongi agrees, stepping close to Taehyung and wrapping him in a loving embrace, taking the back of his neck in hand,Yoongi pulls Taehyung down for a kiss. “But I’m glad you told me now.” He brushes his nose against Taehyung’s, earning a smile from the younger male. “And don’t worry, just a couple more weeks and everything for Jimin’s debut will be finalized, and then I’m taking off a whole month for vacation.”
“Really?” Taehyung doesn’t even try to hold back the hope that blooms inside of him. “You mean it?”
“I mean it.” The elder grins at the happiness replacing Taehyung earlier guilt. “And I plan on spending every single moment with you, watching those cringy dramas you love so much.”
“Hey!” Taehyung exclaims, playfully smacking Yoongi’s bicep. “You said you like my dramas!”
“Some of them are alright, but I could definitely spend the rest of my life without the rest.”
“We don’t have to watch them, hyung, if you don’t like them.” Taehyung pouts.
“I don’t mind watching them with you, because you love them and I love seeing you happy.” He shrugs then, “Besides, I always seem to find myself getting into them and wanting to know what happens next.”
Taehyung pouts a moment longer, but the smile he’s holding back soon slips through. “Just say you’re a closest fan.”
“Not in this life, TaeTae.” Yoongi returns Tae’s smile with his own. “Ready to head home, husband-to-be?”
A giddy feeling goes through Taehyung as Yoongi says that. A large smile has the corner of his lips pulling back into a box shape and Taehyung decides to tease Yoongi later about being a closeted fan of his dramas. Instead he nods his head, plucking up one more strawberry. “Mhmm!”
“Lets get out of here then.” Yoongi turns away from Taehyung to grab his coat off the back is his computer chair. “I’d rather continue this happy moment making a mess of our bed anyways.”
Heat floods Taehyung’s entire face, painting his cheeks, neck and ears, a dark red color. His heart began its frantic beating all over again, only this time instead of anxiety, it was in anticipation of what’s to come. With his coat on, both Yoongi and Taehyung pack up the remaining snacks to take home.
Turning the lights off, they leave hand-in-hand.
