I'm done, why don't you fight for me now?

Work Text:

“What if I’m not what he wants?”

Taehyung, who was furiously typing away on his computer, looked over at Jimin who was sitting on his bed, curled up in Jungkook’s sweater. He stopped the essay he was working on and gave his attention to the omega. “What do you mean, Min?” He asked.

“What if I’m not what Jungkook wants?” Jimin repeated.

“I would say that’s absurd.” The alpha stated. “If course you’re what he wants.”

“Then why hasn’t he asked me to be his mate yet?”

Taehyung knew this question would be asked sooner or later. He just didn’t think this soon. “I’m sure he’ll ask, Minnie. Jungkook loves you.”

“He’s not going to ask,” The blonde grumbled sadly. “We’ve been dating for four years now. We don’t even live together for crying out loud!”

“Well that’s because you live in the dorm and Jungkook lives in a studio apartment.”

“I only live in a dorm again this year because at the start of the semester when he got his studio he didn’t ask me to move in with him.”

Taehyung closed his laptop, knowing that Jimin was digging himself in to an insecurity hole. “He probably just wasn’t ready to have you move in with him yet.”

Jimin sat up straighter. “But it’s been four years, Tae!”

The alpha got up and walked to Jimin’s bed, sitting down next to him. “And two of those four years Jungkook was still in high school. It took him his senior year and the two years after that to finally have enough to get his own place. Not to mention he’s been working non-stop to try and open his own tattoo shop. He’s spent the whole year prior working over-time just to get the experience he needed to get his license for his own place. Minnie, I’m sure he didn’t ask you because he didn’t want to neglect you.”

The omega sniffled. “What difference would it had made if I was living with him or not?”

“It would have been worse to neglect you while he was right there.” Taehyung explained.

“I just- I just don’t feel like I’m enough…”

Taehyung shook his head. “Trust me, you’re more than enough for him.”

Jimin never thought of himself as a jealous person. He was just…protective of people he cared about. The omega’s self-esteem wasn’t never that great and his insecurities liked to surface often. So, any time Jimin saw another person hitting on Jungkook, it never really sat well with him. Most of the time, since that one night at the party where he landed on an alpha, the blonde tried to keep from physically intervening.

After about the sixth time that it happened (Jungkook is very popular), Jungkook asked Jimin to stop making a scene. It was safe to say that was their first fight.

But Jimin apologized and promise to never make a big deal out of it again. In hindsight, he promised this with the idea that Jungkook would start telling those who hit on him that he was taken, even if he didn’t have a mating bite. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and Jimin was too afraid to confront Jungkook about it.

Jimin tried to tell himself it didn’t hurt when Jungkook would be very friendly with all people. And to be honest, he knows how amazing his boyfriend is, how sweet he is and how he likes to be nice to most people he meets. The blonde can handle when Jungkook is just genuinely trying to be friends or have common courtesy with. It’s when he knows the other party is hitting on Jungkook. It’s when he knows they are flirting with his boyfriend. It’s when he sees Jungkook act shy and flustered or worse, play along.

Jimin had barely seen his boyfriend the last three weeks. He wasn’t sure why Jungkook had suddenly become busier than normal, but he was always telling him he couldn’t come over or have lunch because he was doing something else who something had come up. It’s not like he was hiding anything, he was being honest with Jimin. The blonde never had any doubt that Jungkook was telling the truth.

But it’s the idea that Jungkook kept blowing Jimin off that bothered him. That and there was a particular new omega scent Jimin kept noticing that the taller man always had on him every time they did see each other. Jimin knew Jungkook made a handful of new friends, their circle didn’t cross with the one Jimin was in which is why Jimin never really met them. And while Jimin was totally okay with it because he trusted Jungkook, a part of him wasn’t. At all.

It was during a Thursday night when Jimin just decided to take things in to his own hands. He knows Jungkook hadn’t eaten a proper cooked meal in over a week and so he decided to surprise his boyfriend. He knew Jungkook was going to be hone, working on some school work. He cooked the alpha his favorite meal and wrapped it in a box, nice and lovely. He smiled at his work and grabbed his keys and coat, heading out of his dorm and walking to Jungkook’s place.

After a good thirty-minute walk (Jimin didn’t mind), he headed up the stairs and to the floor Jungkook’s apartment was on. He headed down the hall and knocked on the door. He bounced on the balls of his feet, holding the wrapped dinner in his hands as he waited for Jungkook to open the door.

Jimin heard footsteps headed for the door and when Jungkook opened it he smiled, holding up the box. “I brought-”

“Jimin? Hey what are you doing here?” He Jungkook asked.

Jimin blinked, lowering his arms. “I brought you dinner.” He answered, feeling a bit confused.

“Jungkook, don’t take too long! The food’s gonna get cold!”

The blonde’s shoulder’s fell at the unfamiliar female voice. “Oh you-you already have dinner?”

“Uh yeah, Soojin had me order take out since we’d probably be a while.” Jungkook explained.

“I-I thought you were going to just work on homework?”

The brunette nodded. “Yeah, I was but then Soojin asked me to tutor her so we’re doing that now.”

Jimin blinked again, feeling even more confused. He just didn’t understand what was going on.

“Honestly Jungkook oppa, what’s taking you-” Jimin watched a pretty red-headed omega walked up to Jungkook and hung herself on his shoulder. She looked up at Jimin and smiled. “Oh hello, and who might you be?”

Jimin didn’t answer. Once he was hit with her scent he realized this was the scent he could smell on Jungkook all the time. “Soojin, this is Jimin hyung. Jimin this is Soojin. She’s the new transfer student I’ve been helping out.”

Soojin held out her hand. “Nice to meet you, Jimin-ssi!”

Jimin stared down at her hand before looking back up at Jungkook. “Does she know that I’m your boyfriend?” He asked.

Soojin blinked. “Oh, I thought Jungkookie oppa was single.”

Before Jungkook could say anything Jimin spoke again. “So, you’ve been walking around smelling like an omega that isn’t me? And you’ve neglected to tell her that you’re taken?”

The redhead rolled her eyes. “You’re over-reacting.”

Jimin looked at her, eyes narrowed. “Please stop touching my boyfriend.” He nearly growled.

Soojin didn’t move. “Listen here honey, I don’t have to listen to you. And you don’t own Jungkook oppa. I can touch him if I want.”

Jimin snapped at that and dropped the box, lunging at the redhead. She let out a shriek and jumped back, Jimin only snatching a fist full of her hair rather than her face thanks to Jungkook. The alpha caught him in his arms, holding him back.

“What the fuck, hyung?” He hissed. But Jimin wasn’t listening. He struggled against the taller man’s arms, trying to get free. “God damn it, omega. Cut it out.” He ordered, alpha tone loud and clear. Jimin’s sense immediately tensed and he whimpered, stilling in Jungkook’s arms. He pushed the older man back and bit, making him stand up on his own. “Apologize to her now.”

Jimin’s jaw dropped, unable to believe his boyfriend was using his alpha voice to command him. He looked up at the brunette to see him with a stoic expression on his face, eyes glowing red. And for the first time since knowing Jungkook, Jimin was afraid of him. The elder had no choice but to look over at Soojin who had a smug smile on her face. “I-I’m sorry,” He said, body painfully wound tight with his effort to resist the alpha tone.

Satisfied, Jungkook’s eyes returned to the dark brown and the hold he had on Jimin broke. He omega gasped for air, feeling his body nearly go limp. He stumbled and held on to the door. Suddenly confusion and surprise flash in Jungkook’s eyes and he reached forward to steady Jimin but the smaller man flinched and quickly stepped away. Jimin’s scent was drowning in fear and distress.

“Don’t touch me,” He whimpered softly.

“Jiminnie hyu-” He began but Jimin cut him off with a shake of his head.

“Don’t.” He pleaded. “I’m Jimin-ssi to you. Please n-never contact me again.” Before Jungkook could say anymore Jimin ran down the hall.

“Jimin!” Jungkook stepped out of the apartment, wanting to follow the blonde but he felt a tug on his hand.

“Just let him go. If you go after him now, you might make it worse.” Jungkook turned to look at her, to tell her that was absurd but she dragged him back inside. “I’m gonna warm up our food.” Soojin said with a smile.

As she walked away Jungkook noticed the box Jimin had sitting on the floor. He bent down and picked it up, noticing the box broke and the wrapping was wet now. He opened it to find a small note and his favorite meal. He lifted the note to read it.

Even hard-working alphas need to eat a good home cooked meal. Thank you for trying you hardest to live your dreams and support us both. I love you. -Jimin

Jungkook wanted to kick himself. Instead he walked in to the kitchen, tossed the box on the counter and headed towards his room. Soojin turned to him, wanting to talk but she frowned as she heard her door shut. “Oppa!”’

The first contact from Jungkook came later than Jimin thought. Which didn’t help with his insecurities, nor did it give him any hope for him and Jungkook. He hadn’t left his room in three days, not even allowing Taehyung in to talk to him. He made no effort to contact anyone or attend any of his classes.

“Jiminnie, babe.” He heard Taehyung say through his locked bedroom door. “Please open the door for me.” He begged. “I just need to make sure you’re alright. Please.”

It was silent for a while as Taehyung waited with bated breath, hoping his best friend would let him in. He heard soft shuffling before the sound of the door unlocking clicked. It creaked open a little. The alpha frowned. He knew Jimin was sad, but he didn’t realize just how much until the blonde’s set flitted through the cracked door. Sorrow filled brown eyes stared up at him.

“Oh Jiminnie…” He mumbled as the door opened fully and Jimin fell in to Taehyung’s arms, sobbing now. He scooped the omega up in to his arms and carried him back to the bed. He laid him down and climbed in next to him, letting Jimin burrow in to his arms as he continued crying. He softly stroked the blonde’s hair as he cooed softly to him.

After about a good half hour of crying, Jimin’s tears turned in to soft sniffles and whimpers. “I’m sorry,” He apologized.

“No baby, no. Don’t apologize.” Taehyung said. “Please tell me what happened. It hurts to see you like this.”

Jimin bit his lip and looked down at Taehyung’s chest. The alpha knew he was thinking and stayed quiet as he waited. Eventually Jimin explained and by the time he was done he was prying himself out of Jimin’s arms.

“T-Taetae where are you going?” He asked, alarmed as he sat up in bed.

“I’m going to kill Jungkook,” He answered heading for the door.

“Tae p-please don’t. I- I just need you to come back and h-hold me. Please.”

The tone in Jimin’s voice was enough to break his heart and he stopped in his tracks. Jungkook need a good ass whooping but Jimin was far more important. He turned around and made his way back to the bed, wrapping his arms back around the omega. “I’m sorry.” He mumbled.

“Don’t be,” Jimin buried his face in to Taehyung’s neck. “Thank you, Tae.”

The taller man tightened his arms around Jimin. “Anything for you.”

It been over two weeks since Jungkook had seen his boyfriend last. After Jimin ran away from it, the alpha took a few days to figure out what had happened. He should have realized just how bad it was right after the incident happened, but he didn’t. And when he finally realized his mistake, it might have been too late. None of his messages got any replies, he was just left on read.

Jungkook didn’t blame Jimin for cutting him off. He deserved it. But he really wanted to fix things. Except the omega wouldn’t talk to him. The last time he showed up at the blonde’s dorm he got in to a fight with Taehyung. Jungkook liked to pride himself in being a strong alpha, but he didn’t have the same rage the elder did and ended up retreating from their fight.

He buried his head in his hands, thinking of something, anything, he could do to get Jimin to talk to him. There was a knock on his door, cutting off his thoughts. He got up from the sofa and went to opened the door, seeing the last person he really wanted to see right now.

“Soojin-ah, what are you doing here?” He asked.

“Heard you were sad,” She began, holding up a bag of take out and some movies. “I’m here to cheer you up!” She smiled.

Jungkook raised his eyebrows. “Soojin, I’m not really in the mood-”

“Oh nonsense!” She slipped past Jungkook and headed in to the living room. “You need to get out of this funk. It’s not that big of a deal.”

The red head was truly beginning to get on Jungkook’s nerves now. “Do you even realized what had happened between me and my boyfriend?” He asked.

“Don’t you mean ex-boyfriend?”

He blinked. “No?”

“Yeah he told you not to contact him anymore. Sounds like he was dumping you. But that’s okay, no need to worry about shitty exes anymore!” She set the take out on the coffee table but stopped when she heard a growl.

“You’d be smart not to insult my boyfriend again.” He snapped. “I don’t want you here, Soojin. I hurt someone I truly love because I wanted to be a nice person. Because I thought you deserved me being a nice person to you. But it seems as if I shouldn’t have even bothered giving you the time of day.”

Soojin stood up with a frown on her face. “Fine, I’m just gonna cut to the chase. I like you Jungkook! I could do so much better than an insecure boy who can’t even trust you to have friends!”

Jungkook growled again in within seconds he was standing toe to toe with the omega. “I would never hurt an omega but you are this close from making me lose my shit. Get the fuck out right now and never, ever come back. If I see you anywhere near me or my boyfriend ever again I won’t hesitate to put you in your place.”

Soojin cowered in her place but didn’t move.

The brunette’s eyes flashed red for a moment. “Get out!” He bellowed, alpha tone clear. The woman scrambled past him and ran out of the apartment, slamming the door behind herself. Jungkook let out a sigh and sank down in to the sofa.

Jimin was right. Jungkook snapped at him for no reason at all.

He had to make this right.

Jungkook spent the rest of the day trying so hard to get in contact with Jimin. But he still wouldn’t answer any of his calls or text messages. He was sure the blonde didn’t even listen to his voicemails. He thought of asking their other friends to help him but just like the first time he was sure they wouldn’t budge much.

Hoseok tried to give Jungkook words of encouragement but said it wasn’t his place to do anything. Yoongi wouldn’t even give him the time of day (Jungkook suspected Taehyung had something to do with that). Seokjin gave him a long lecture on how much of an idiot he was. And Namjoon was the only one Jungkook didn’t get a chance to truly talk to yet.

Which is why he ended up at the elder’s apartment, knocking on the door. It opened a minute later and Namjoon’s features softened at the defeated scent that lingered around the younger alpha.

“Hey hyung,” Jungkook began. “Can I come in?”

Namjoon nodded and stepped aside, allowing him in. He closed the door and walked over to the sofa where Jungkook went to sit down. “Did you want anything to drink?” He asked, voice soft.

Jungkook shook his head. “No thanks, hyung.” He mumbled. “I’m guessing you know what happened?” He asked the elder as he sat down on the chair nearby.

“I do but you can tell me your side.”

The younger man groaned. “There is no my side. What they’ve told you is the truth. I don’t even have an excuse. Soojin, the woman I defended. She came to my apartment today. Found out she liked me which is why she hung all over me. I can’t believe it took me this long to figure it out.”

“When Jimin figured it out the first time he met her.” Namjoon added.

“God, I should have listened to him. I just- I know how he is. How he gets when anyone hits on me or flirts with me. At first it was cute, endearing ya know? But then I thought it was just getting silly so I asked him to stop. And you know what he did? He listened. He respected me. And I never thought anything of it!”

Jungkook was up on his feet now, pacing in the living room.

“Do you know what kind of devotion that takes?” Jungkook asked. “Not only did he respect my wishes, he did it while still having to deal with people making advances at me. And I did nothing to stop that. I just let them be because I thought they were all being friendly. It took Jin hyung explaining that to me. God I can’t believe I’m this stupid that someone how to explain others flirting with me.” He ran his hands down his face ad groaned in to his palms.

Namjoon nodded. “Jin told me about that. Said he was really disappointed in you.” He stated.

“God, I don’t blame him. I’ve been such a shitty alpha. I love Jimin so much. I’ve taken him for granted.” The alpha stopped pacing, shoulders slumping. “What if I’ve lost him forever? I used my alpha voice on him. He was scared of me! I made the love of my life afraid of me. I’m supposed to care for him and protect him. But instead I made him feel like he needed protection from me! What kind of alpha does that?” By now tears were falling down Jungkook’s face. “I wanted him- no I want him to be my mate. I’ve never wanted anything more than being able to call him mine forever. What if I never get the chance to do that now?” He sniffled.

Namjoon got up and walked over to Jungkook, pulling the younger man in to his arms. He had never seen him so vulnerable before. “Don’t say that.” He began. “I know if feels like you’ve ruined everything, but you didn’t. Jimin just needed time. We’ll help you make things right. Jimin is miserable without you and he deserves an apology.”

Jungkook scoffed as he pulled away from the elder. “Taehyung won’t let me anywhere near their dorms. Hell, yesterday I couldn’t even get in the building.”

“I’ll talk to Taehyung. He wants you to apologizes as much as you want to.”

“But what if…what if Jimin doesn’t forgive me?” Jungkook asked, voice small. That was his biggest fear: Jimin not accepting him back in to his life.

Namjoon let out a sigh. “Then at least you would have tried.”

“But I don’t want him anywhere near Jiminnie,” Taehyung huffed as she stood across from Namjoon.

“It’s not up to you, Taehyung.” The elder said. “If Jimin say it’s okay then it’s okay. I know you’re still mad but Jungkook really wants to fix there. He’s just as miserable and as broken as Jimin. He carries around the scent of regret. I can’t even remember what he usually smells like now.”

Taehyung huffed and crossed his arms. “Fine, I’ll ask Jimin.”

“Ask me what?” Jimin questioned as he walked in to the kitchen.

“Is that my shirt?” Namjoon asked, looking at the large long-sleeved top Jimin had on. It was drowning his frame so it definitely wasn’t his own.

“I um, I needed some comfort and I’ve been stealing all of  Taehyung’s and Hoseok’s shirts so Jinnie hyung brought me one of yours. But I can give it back to you!”

Namjoon chuckled, walking over to Jimin and ruffling his hair. “Nah, it’s alright, Firefly. If it gives you comfort then I’m okay with that.”

Jimin smiled up at the taller man. “Thanks, Joonbug. So, what did you want to ask me?” He looked between Namjoon and Taehyung.

“Um well,” Taehyung began. “Joon hyung says he talked to Jungkook yesterday…”

Jimin looked up at Namjoon who let out a sigh and smiled softly. “He’d really like to talk to you. To apologize and explained. You don’t have to say yes though. He’ll respect that.”

Jimin bit his lip and instead of answering he asked, “H-How’s he doing?”

“Not well.” Namjoon answered, honestly. “He doesn’t sleep, doesn’t eat much. He’s mad at himself for what he did. Hates himself for it. He’s called me in the middle of the night a few times crying because he’s afraid he’ll never have you again.”

Jimin let out a quiet choked sob at that, covering his mouth. He wasn’t sure how Jungkook would handle them apart. But he didn’t think he would be this bad.

“I’m not saying this to guilt you in any way. But I care about Jungkook too and I know you still do as well. And I want you to know, it’s not all butterflies and rainbows for him. He’s suffering too.”

“Did you want to see him?” Taehyung asked. “If you think it’ll help them I think you should. Even if I’m still mad at him, you deserve it.”

Jimin nodded. “Yes,” He answered. “I’ll talk to him.”

Namjoon smiled. “I can send him over tomorrow. Does that work?” He asked. Jimin nodded again. “Okay,” He pulled the blonde into his arms and kissed the top of his head. “It’ll be okay, Firefly, I promise.”

Jungkook stood in front of Jimin’s dorm with a bouquet of flowers in his hand. He had never been so nervous in his life. He took a deep breath but the door opened just as he did and so he held it as Taehyung glared at him from the other side.

Startled, Jungkook started coughing. Taehyung raised an eyebrow as he watched the younger alpha double over. “You’re embarrassing, did you know that?” Taehyung shut the door behind him, leaving the two of them out in the hall. “I need to talk to you before you talk to him.”

Jungkook stood up straight and nodded. “You’re not gonna punch me again though, are you?” He asked.

“Not unless you give me another reason to.” Taehyung answered. “Anyway, first thing’s first. If you hurt him and make him cry again I won’t hesitant to bash your skull in. Got it? Second, you need to be gentle with him. Before this all went down. Jimin confessed to me that he didn’t think he was good enough for you. That he wasn’t what you wanted. Why do you think that?”

Jungkook shoulders slumped. “It’s my fault. I should have been giving him the love and attention he deserves. But if he forgives me I promise to never make him feel like that again.”

“You better not,” Taehyung opened the door again. “I’m going out, but I told Jimin to call me if anything happens. Please don’t do anything that would make him call me.”

Jungkook nodded. “I won’t,” Taehyung gave him a pat on the back before walking down the hall. Jungkook took another deep breath and headed inside. He walked towards Jimin’s bedroom where door was open. He saw the blonde sitting on his bed. He gave the door a soft knock to gain his attention. “Can I come in?” He asked.

Jimin nodded and set his phone aside as he watched Jungkook walk up to the bed. He noticed the flowers in his hands. “For me?” He asked, softly.

“For you,” Jungkook answered with a nod, handing them over.

“They’re beautiful, thank you.” Jimin set them aside then looked back up at Jungkook.

“Can I sit?” Jimin nodded and moved over to allow the alpha to sit on the bed as well. “I-” The brunette laughed bitterly. “I don’t know where to start. I tried to rehearse this but I knew it wouldn’t help.” He took another deep breath. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I can’t even begin to explain to you how sorry I truly am. No amount of apologizing is going to make up for what I did. But I hope you understand just how much I regret well everything.  I regret that day. I regret ever befriending Soojin. I regret not listening to you. I regret using my alpha voice in you. I regret so much.

“But what I’m mad about the most is that I scared you. I made you afraid of me. I could tell, I could feel it. My alpha voice frightened you. I’m your boyfriend. Well I mean was. Point is, I made you, someone I love more than life itself scared of me, the one person who has promised to protect you no matter what. I don’t know if I’ll ever forgive myself for that.”

Jimin frowned. “Jungkook-” He began.

Jungkook shook his head. “Please let me finish first. If you can find it in your heart to forgive me, I promise I’ll never treat you like that again. I have no excuse for why I did it the first time. I just did and I hate myself for it. But Jimin, I love you so much. More than I can even put in to words. Sometimes I feel like I love you so much that it’s overwhelming. You are good enough. You’re more than. Clearly, I’m the one not good enough for you. What kind of alpha am I to have done what I did? I took another omega’s side over yours when you were just following your instincts. I should have followed mine. But instead I was naive and just wanted to be nice. And look where that got me. You probably hate me now too.” Jungkook let out another sigh, his shoulder deflating once again.

Jimin watched how broken Jungkook looked. His scent reeked of distress and regret and sadness. The blonde slowly reached over and placed his hand on Jungkook’s larger one. “Jungkook, I don’t hate you. I could never.” He said. “I love you too. A lot. So much. That’s why that hurt me as much as it did. I’m sorry I’m so insecure and sensitive. I could have handled that better.”

Jungkook shook his head. “Don’t apologize at all for any of that. I should never give you a really to feel insecure in our relationship. I should pamper you and spoil you with my love.” He took Jimin’s hand in his own and reached for the other one. “If you take me back I promise to show you every day just how much I love you and cherish you. I’ll never take you for granted. I’ll make sure everyone knows I’m taken.”

“But how will you-”

“Mate me!” Jungkook blurted out. “Mate with me. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want you to wear my mark. And I want to wear yours.”

Jimin furrowed his eyebrows. “But alpha’s don’t usually let omega’s mark them.”

Jungkook shook his head. “I don’t care. I want to be able to walk around and proud show people that I have the most amazing mate that I would do anything for.”

The blonde blinked a few times, tears escaping his eyes. “R-Really?” He asked. “You’d do that f-for me?”

The alpha nodded. “That and so much more, Jimin.” Jimin pulled his hands from Jungkook’s only to throw his arms around the brunette’s neck. He began softly crying in to the crock there as Jungkook’s arms snaked around his waist. “Please don’t cry.”

“They’re happy tears.”

Jungkook closed his eyes and held on to Jimin tighter. “I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you.” He chanted over and over.

“Me too.”

Taehyung gasped as he stared at his friends, looking between Jimin and Jungkook. “I can’t believe I came back to not only you guys being mated, but Jungkook is carrying your mark and you smell just exactly like him.” He said.

Jimin’s cheeks were flushed red as Jungkook answered. “Uh, well it kind of just happened and then one thing led to another and well…” He replied.

“I mean it seems really sudden but I’m happy for you guys. I’m even happier I decided to stay away as long as I did because man I would not have wanted to walk in on that.” Jimin’s blush deepened and he buried his face in to Jungkook’s side. “Really though, letting Jimin mark you means a lot since it’s not very common for that kind of thing to happen in society. You’re a good man, Jungkook.”

Jungkook looked down at Jimin, who peeked up at him. He smiled at the blonde and got a shy smile in return. “Someone like Jimin only deserves the best kind of man.”
