i’ve got plans to get to you

Chapter Text

Kirishima Eijirou and Bakugou Katsuki had been dating for 11 months. Although it wasn’t all that long in the grand scheme of things, they were both very much in love. Those 11 months felt like an eternity to both Bakugou and Kirishima. 11 whole months of being over 2,000 miles apart.

Kirishima loved the relationship they had, but it was always hard. He constantly wanted to be with him. To feel his touch. To hear his voice in person. Even after about 5 months of dating, Kirishima knew that he didn’t want to lose this boy any time soon. So, he began saving up for a plane ticket to visit Bakugou for their one year anniversary of dating.

Before Bakugou and Kirishima started dating, they had been good friends for a while. They met through one of Kirishima’s internet friends, Kaminari. One day, Kaminari introduced Kirishima to a group of his friends irl; Ashido Mina, Sero Hanta, and Bakugou Katsuki. On first impression, Bakugou was rude, loud, and clearly irritated, but something about him sparked his interest. Not to mention, the boy was also unfairly attractive. A groupchat was made after Kirishima was formally introduced to to group, so he began talking to Kaminari’s friends on a regular basis. He truly did enjoy all of them. Both Kirishima and Bakugou were usually up until the early hours of the morning since they both had trouble falling and staying asleep at night. One night, at around 3am, the two boys had their first real conversation alone to try to help distract themselves. It began as just random things, like ranting about school and the many other things teenagers always felt the need to rant about. Soon enough, this became a regular thing. Either Bakugou or Kirishima himself would text the other to see if they were up, and then talk until one of the two couldn’t keep their eyes open any longer.

In the midst of their late night/early morning ranting, Kirishima actually learned quite a bit about the blonde. He learned that, Bakugou, despite his angry exterior, was actually a really good person. He was passionate and dedicated to the things he enjoyed. He was also, surprisingly, extremely academically intelligent. Kirishima happened to be lacking in that field, so Bakugou also often helped him with his studies. An interest that the two shared was that they both really enjoyed exercise and other physical activity. That made Kirishima happy considering he didn’t have anyone in his personal life that appreciated working out the way he did. He also learned that Bakugou lived alone. Although he wouldn’t go into great detail, it seemed that he and his parents didn’t get along all that well. He didn’t hate them or anything, he just liked the idea of living alone and being in charge of his own life. Kirishima understood and respected that. Another thing that Kirishima learned through their frequent talks was that he was falling for this boy. Badly.

Months passed. Bakugou and Kirishima continued their talks, and the two had grown pretty close to each other. Kirishima would talk about his problems more often, and Bakugou would try his best to help. Occasionally, Bakugou would even share some of his worries and doubts, but he wasn’t the kind to talk out his problems to people. In those couple of months, Kirishima also felt himself falling deeper for Bakugou by the day. He had briefly mentioned his feelings to Kaminari, but it became quickly apparent that Bakugou wasn’t the kind to want to date anyone. Especially some random guy that lived thousands of miles away that happened to be friends with one of his friends. Despite his near hopelessness, Kirishima still couldn’t control the constant thoughts of the boy that entered his head and refused to leave. He appreciated Bakugou as a friend; if nothing else, he liked having someone different to talk to. His feelings for the blonde were annoying at times, but he’d do anything to keep the relationship that they had. Even if that meant forcing himself to repress them.

One night, Bakugou called Kirishima on Skype. This was fairly rare, since they usually texted alone and Skyped with the whole group. Kirishima answered the call, and was surprisingly met with a clearly distressed Bakugou. He looked worn out. Tired. Serious.

They sat in silence for a little while before Bakugou finally spoke. “I don’t fucking know why I’m calling you right now,” the boy said, not looking at his laptop camera. Kirishima looked at him confused, but figured that it was best to just let Bakugou talk when he was comfortable. It was obvious he had something troubling him. Bakugou spoke again, voice raspier than usual, “Do you ever get nightmares?”

“I have gotten them, but they’re not super common for me or anything,” he responded softly. Bakugou sighed. “Well I get them a fucking lot. I have ever since I was a kid. They happened less often after I moved out of my parents’ house, but they still happen more than a normal amount.” Kirishima listened intently, wondering where Bakugou was going with his story.

“Although they happen less, instead of being about stupid fucking monsters and villains and shit like they were when I was a kid, they’re about stupid emotional shit,” Bakugou chuckled slightly, as if he was making fun of his own head. “If you haven’t already caught on, I don’t fucking like feelings. They can go fucking die.” Kirishima chuckled slightly at this too, since he knew exactly what Bakugou meant.

“More often than not, my dreams are just things like being abandoned. Or fucking being told how useless I am. And they always involve real people in my life. It’s fucking infuriating.” Bakugou stopped for a few seconds to look at Kirishima and see if he was listening before continuing, “My nightmare tonight had you in it.”

Kirishima’s eyes widened in surprise, not expecting that to be what Bakugou was going to say. Voice a bit shaky with confusion, Kirishima responds, “O-Oh. Okay? I’m really not sure what I can do about that. I’m sorry.” Bakugou looked at the camera again. “I don’t expect you to do anything. Before you start apologizing for shit you had no fucking power over, let me explain.” Kirishima nodded in understanding, while Bakugou went back to his original state of uneasiness.

“The reason this nightmare was especially fucking annoying was because, after I started talking to you until I fell asleep, my nightmares became less common again.” Kirishima was surprised again, since he didn’t think Bakugou was going to open up about real feelings. But here he was. It seemed that Bakugou himself was even a bit surprised by how he was opening up, based on the way he silently contemplated what exactly to say. “I don’t know where i’m going with this god damn story, but part of me felt like this was the right thing to do in this moment.”

Bakugou’s eyes got serious again as he looked at Kirishima. “I still don’t think I understand,” Kirishima said, trying his best to compile his thoughts into something somewhat helpful, but failing. Bakugou looked annoyed. Kirishima couldn’t tell if he was annoyed with what he responded with, or if he was annoyed with himself. “What I’m trying to fucking say is that you’ve helped. A lot. I’ll probably never admit that again so be grateful for now, you stupid shit.” Kirishima proceeded to laugh at the insult that had no real fervor behind it.

“It’s no problem! I had no idea I was helping with anything, but I’m glad to know I am!” Kirishima responded with a smile, trying to lighten the mood at least a little bit.

Bakugou didn’t actually respond for for at least 30 seconds, as he would open his mouth to say something, then quickly decide against whatever he was thinking of saying.

When he finally spoke again, he seemed more stressed than anything else. “I- Okay fuck I can’t fucking do this.” Leaving Kirishima confused once again, the red-head responded with sincerity, “I don’t know what you’re trying to say, but whatever it is, I’m here for you.” Bakugou continued to stare at the ground in contemplation. “What do you think of me? Why do you keep fucking talking to me when you could be talking to Kaminari or anyone else in the group?”

Kirishima contemplated what was right to say. ‘Because I think you’re cool?’ ‘Because I like getting to know you?’ ‘Because I might be in love with you and have no other way to deal with it?’

He decided against saying all those things, figuring it would be in his best interest to settle for, “Because I want to, Bakugou,” the statement coming out more serious than Kirishima had hoped. This was followed by an uncomfortably long silence. Had he said something wrong? Was that not the answer Bakugou was looking for?

Bakugou finally mumbled something incomprehensible, and before Kirishima could ask for clarification, Bakugou angrily blurted the last thing Kirishima could have expected to get out of this conversation. “I fucking like you, Kirishima. And I already fucking know you don’t fucking like me back,” Bakugou said, voice cracking from what Kirishima assumes is either anger or fear, though it’s unclear which one. Kirishima was dumbfounded. Bakugou Katsuki liked him. The boy that he had been forcing all his feelings away from actually liked him back. He actually liked him.

He had been so struck by happiness and relief that he failed to notice how he left Bakugou hanging on the other end of the call. “Well? Are you gonna fucking say anything?” This question brings Kirishima back to reality as he replies, slightly panicked. “Ah! Bakugou I’m so sorry I was just really surprised! I like you too! I have since the moment Kaminari introduced us and I’ve been trying to figure out what to do about the feelings ever since? But I never expected this I-“ His rambling was cut short by a confused Bakugou. “Excuse me? You’ve liked me this whole time and didn’t even bother telling me??” Kirishima laughed as a sort of apology before responding with a legitimate question. “Okay. So, I like you, and you like me. What does that make us?”

Bakugou responded exactly how Kirishima expected. “I don’t fucking know shitty hair. Whatever you fucking want.” Kirishima could hardly hide his happiness as a big smile spread across his face. “Okay then. Bakugou Katsuki, will you be my boyfriend?” Even though that was obviously what Kirishima was going to ask, Bakugou looked flustered. It was cute. Clearly blushing even in the dark of his room, Bakugou mumbled, “Yeah. I fucking guess. Whatever.” Kirishima, overjoyed, quickly realized that it was nearing 5am, and that he should probably try to go to sleep again. Although, that probably wouldn’t be possible that night, considering the happiness running through his body.

Looking at his now boyfriend, Kirishima quickly stated something along the lines of “It’s getting late,” and “Thank you for everything,” before hanging up the Skype call.

Bakugou and Kirishima’s long distance relationship took some time to get used to; for both of them. They both struggled with having their feelings be so strong, but being so far away from each other. It was hard, especially at first. But, they both knew what to expect, and would do anything to make their relationship work. Because they loved each other.

Now, here Kirishima was 11 months later. He was about to tell Bakugou that they were going to meet. That he was going to fly over to where Bakugou was and finally see in boyfriend in person. It was actually happening.

Kirishima opened his laptop and quickly clicked on Skype to call Bakugou. At this point, Bakugou could practically read Kirishima’s facial expressions like a book, so he tried as hard as possible to put on a nonchalant, casual face to avoid spoiling the surprise he had.

Being that it was their 11 month anniversary, Bakugou was expecting a call from Kirishima at some point, so he picked up the call fairly quickly. By the looks of it, Bakugou had been working out just before Kirishima called him. He was wearing a black tank top, and his hair was more messy and ruffled. Oh my god his boyfriend was cute. But that’s beside the point.

“Hey Katsu!!” Kirishima said with his usual smile that nearly spread across his whole face. Bakugou grunted a “Hey” but was soon interrupted by Kirishima who was beaming with clear excitement and happiness. Oh well, so much for hiding that, apparently.

“Happy 11 months!” Kirishima said in the same excited tone. Bakugou wasn’t the best at expressing his true thoughts, but Kirishima knew Bakugou was happy, too. They were both happy. “Yeah. You too,” Bakugou said, in a way that was slightly rushed. A soft pink blush spread across the blonde’s cheeks at the sentiment. Cute.

“You know, I’m really happy. With you. You make me really happy, Katsuki,” Kirishima said, looking slightly serious. Bakugou grunted an “I know” in an attempt to hide the flush on his face that was slowly growing, but the boys both knew it wasn’t working.

Kirishima continued. “And for our 11 month, I thought I would do something special.” Bakugou seemed almost annoyed at this, considering he never knew what to do when his boyfriend did special things for him. But, Kirishima knew, deep down, he really liked it.

“You don’t fucking have to do anything, you-“ Bakugou began in his usually irritated way, but Kirishima interrupted him before he could even say his first insult.

In this moment, Kirishima realized it probably would have been a good idea to rehearse how he was going tell his plans to his boyfriend.

Before he could even think of a real explanation, Bakugou interjected. “I can tell you have something to say, so stop think so god damn much and fucking say it already.”

Kirishima, now flustered, looked at Bakugou and said, “I’m coming over there,” in a way that was fast and rushed and probably hardly understood. Bakugou didn’t know how to react at this point. He knew that they would meet in person at some point, but he wasn’t expecting it to be so soon, or to have it sprung upon him so suddenly. So, Bakugou responded in the only way he really knew how. Confused and angry.

“Excuse me? What the fuck do you mean, asshole?” Bakugou questioned. Despite the anger in his voice, Kirishima knew it was forced. The blush that now spread across his face wasn’t helping Bakugou’s lies either.

Kirishima merely laughed in response before continuing. “I mean that I’ve been saving up money for a plane ticket to fly over there, and I finally have enough!” At this, even Bakugou struggled to hide his happiness, as a small smile appeared on his face for a second.

“My flight lands the day before our 1 year and-“ Kirishima could hardly explain before Bakugou interrupted. “A day before our 1 year?” Bakugou said, annoyed. “So you’re meaning to tell me that I have to wait a whole fucking month before I actually see you?” There was a hint of disappointment behind the end of Bakugou’s statement, and suddenly Kirishima regret everything. Maybe he should have waited to tell him?

“I know I know it’s a long time, but I wanted to surprise you. Aren’t you happy?” Kirishima’s last question had obvious insecurity in it, and Bakugou was annoyed at that.

“Of course I’m fucking happy you piece of shit. But now I have to sit here counting down the fucking days for an entire fucking month, so fuck you.” Bakugou always cussed an excessive amount when he didn’t know how to respond to things, but the sentiment was still there.

“I’m sorry, I know, I should have waited a little bit to tell you, but I was just too excited!” Kirishima stated. Bakugou slightly laughed, because he knew his boyfriend had no control over his actions when his excitement got the best of him.

The conversation from that point on became a blur of happy giggles, embarrassed blushes, and their usual pointless rambling. Soon, Kirishima had to leave, and he wished his boyfriend goodbye with a smile. Also immediately after he hung up, he received a text.

katsuki <3: i couldn’t fucking say this before, but i really am fucking excited to see you or whatever. thanks.

Kirishima knew he meant it. He knew Bakugou liked him as much as he liked Bakugou, as much as he didn’t like to show it. So, him saying this meant a lot to Kirishima. He had the best boyfriend.

This was going to be a long month.
