Venti and Xiao have been best friends for as long as they can remember, have done multiple things together, like... uh... shop and pay their bills, jest around, study in the quiet of the night, and just all of what best friends (that also happen to live together) can offer to one another. Fun, isn't it... Yeah, not anymore for Venti.
Not when he breathes the same air as his crush, not when he is best friends with someone he deems is so perfectly imperfect that it somehow hurts when he gets reminded of that fact. Venti knew he had to resort to pettiness just to get noticed, to garner a reaction from Xiao, perhaps, make sure he really is the only one who feels this way.
Slews of love letters addressed to Barbatos being sent to their shared dorm changes the atmosphere between them, and all the sudden, nothing is quite the same anymore—everything they do starts to have some meaning into them, and if a little push is what they might need in order to get their shit together, then... a house party led by Scaramouche shouldn't hurt, should it?

"What do you think, Yun? Fallen in love with me yet?", Xingqiu presses out.
It is not what he meant to say. The pathetic joking words are out though, and Xingqiu can't help but be desperate for a reaction.
A mumbled: "Haha", is all he gets.
It is typical, to be expected even, and as always Xingqiu is disappointed still. He feels not like himself, overanalyzing Chongyun's every move, hoping without grounds.
And despite his aching heart, as always Xingqiu cannot stop, even when he goes way too far.
"Well, maybe you should try the robes on, this lovely amber might just make me fall in love with you even more", Xingqiu says playfully and immediately chokes on regret.
