    Summary

    “Name?”

She looks up at the gruff bouncer and clears her throat. “Danielle. Uh, Danielle Clayton. I’m performing tonight.”

He makes quick work of scanning the list in front of him. “I’ve a Dani Clayton here, that you?”

Dani jerks her head once in confirmation. “Yea, yea it’s my uh- it’s my stage--”

He doesn’t care. “In the main doors and up the staircase on your right before you reach the main bar. The other acts are already up there in the dressing room.”

    OR

Dani is sick of suburbia, sick of Eddie. Sick of her life in general really.

So why not give comedy a go to break the monotony of everyday life. What's the worst that could happen? It's not like she'd meet the love of her life in the dressing room of Bly Manor Bar and have her entire life in suburbia turned upside down... right?

I can't stop you putting roots in my dreamland
My house of stone, your ivy grows
And now I'm covered in you

A slightly happier take on the events at Bly Manor. Dani Clayton arrives in her typical American way, and Jamie is taken by her. Their relationship evolves based on chance more than choice, which somehow matters more. Featuring failed matchmaker Viola, a surprisingly useful pub owner's wife, and superfluous Russian Doll quoting.

    Summary

Jamie doesn’t hear the end of it for days.

If it’s not about how friendly Miss Clayton is––how warm she is, how she’d wrapped Flora in the most wonderful hug on the first day, how big she smiles when Flora or her classmates answer a question right, make her laugh, or really seems to do anything at all––it’s about cool she is, how American, and that? That is something Jamie simply cannot abide.

“I remember when you used to call me cool,” Jamie sighs wistfully, sliding a bowl of ramen in front of Flora before sinking into her seat across from her. “Not some…” She waves a hand, vaguely, crinkling her nose, “American.”

or: as long as it's mattered to jamie, it's always been her and flora. always, that is, until dani clayton, flora's year four teacher.
