When Katie Evans is offered a job by Stanley Edgar, the president of Vought himself, she eagerly accepts, grateful for the opportunity--not knowing it will be as the personal assistant to Soldier Boy, recently returned to the modern world after decades of imprisonment.
He's abrasive, temperamental and possibly insane--all while behaving as if he's still in 1944, which creates it's own unique set of problems within their dynamic.
It doesn't matter, though--despite how difficult Soldier Boy makes it, she is determined to keep her job and succeed--even if it kills her...
...Which it just might.

Butcher shouldn’t love the monster that looks like a human, but he does. He wants to kiss him and thank the unholy and nonexistent gods that Soldier Boy is the way he is. Otherwise he would have lost him. And he would be the one who murdered him, his Dove. Soldier Boy is a menace. He knows, but why does he feel like his other half? In a way Becca never did. He can't bear the thought of surrendering him to Vought. He knows he should. He's their property. God knows he can't kill him. He doesn’t even question if he'd be able to do it if he only knew how. He knows he couldn't. He'd rather die at Soldier Boy's hands than take the cunt's life.

‘We make love in the water for the first time.’
Edward hadn’t spoken for so long that I’d almost forgotten I was supposed to be silent and stoic, clocking in my fair share of keeping him company during his crisis without Bella.
He stared straight ahead, back against the attic wall as it had been for days now.
‘Year and place?’ he asked flatly.
I realised he was playing the little game that Carlisle and I played sometimes, tracking events in all the years and places gone by, but then the implication of his question set in as well. They were the first words he’d spoken in days, ever since we'd left Forks.
‘I don't remember,' I shrugged off, looking down, but I felt his gaze on me anyway.
‘You’re a liar, Rosalie Hale.’
I turned the page of my book, expression forcefully blank. ‘Well, some things never change, I guess.’
Did you ever wonder why Rosalie and Edward are so cold towards one another?
