Summary
Wei Wuxian gasps back into life without a single memory left. His friends, his siblings, his home — all lost to the fog in his head, nothing more than a mystery slipping through his fingers. Lan Wangji had long since stopped thinking of Wei Wuxian's body as Mo Xuanyu's. He grew used to all the ways it was different and the same from the last. But slowly, surely, now that they were comfortable, Wei Wuxian's face had begun to change again. The lines of his jaw became a slightly smudged drawing. Not all together unfamiliar, just enough that Lan Wangji second-guessed his own memory. There was one night Lan Wangji came home to find Wei Wuxian's eyes had changed color. He woke one morning and was taller, his silhouette stretching and growing like a shadow cast against the wall.
His smile was the same. The way he pouted, and slept in, the way he kissed. His terrible jokes. Lan Wangji would get used to a new face too if the husband was still the same.

A snort comes from the God, and he turns his head to the three or so other men standing in a grouping. Their smiles look more like sneers, and when his eyes fall on Shi Qingxuan again, she gets the undeniable feeling of being sized up like a piece of meat. “I suppose you’re lying.”
“I’m not lying.”
“Then, who are you taking to the banquet?”
Her mind starts clicking, trying to think of a name. If it weren’t for such a smug, ugly expression on this God’s face, she might admit her fib and move on, but Shi Qingxuan wants to see that wiped away. “Black Water Sinking Ships,” she says.
Behind her, Ming Yi chokes on her rice.

They spend the rest of the afternoon throwing ideas and thoughts back and forth about the world beyond, Wei Ying’s occasional laughter ringing around them in the stillness of the meadow. At some point Lan Zhan takes out the oranges he has brought with him and peels them for Wei Ying, knowing the other has likely not eaten anything since breakfast. Pleasure curls in his stomach at Wei Ying’s thankful grin, at the drops of orange juice coating his fingers, his lips.
Above them, the mountains stretch high. All of this was all there is.
