    Summary

He was caught on one word that Sokka had said. Engaged. His mind latched onto that, and conjured up images of rings and a wedding. Marriage.

Sokka kept talking, but Zuko couldn’t hear him over the blood roaring in his ears. If he had been engaged to marry an American citizen, he wouldn’t have to go back to Japan and wait to refile for another work visa. He could stay here, and never have to see his father again.

Zuko’s gaze roamed over Sokka. He wasn’t married, or seeing anyone, Zuko knew that. Sokka always complained about being single, and the one time he had gone on a date in their past several years of working together, Sokka hadn’t shut up about it for a week. Zuko would know if Sokka was currently seeing anyone, and he wasn’t.

There it was. His way out.

aka Zuko and Sokka decide to get fake married so Zuko doesn't get deported, but they have to go through a weekend in Sokka's hometown pretending to be a couple for his family before they can do it

    Summary

In Zuko’s strict family, needing a tutor is just about the worst thing you could do. Failing a class, however, is even worse. The only rational solution? Take up Aang on his offer to find him a physics tutor and have Sokka—beautiful, smart, handsome Sokka—tutor him in secret.

When Azula’s arrival threatens to reveal Zuko’s secret, it’s up to Sokka to convince her this definitely isn’t what it looks like. See, he’s actually… Zuko’s… boyfriend?

Hmm. There’s no way this could get complicated, right?

Sokka still seems pretty tired as he makes himself comfortable next to Zuko, eyes bleary. He reaches up to rub one eye with a knuckle, leaning further into Zuko.

“You gonna eat that?” Sokka asks, pointing at Zuko’s remaining slice of bacon.

Zuko was going to eat that, but he’s happy to offer it up to Sokka. He shakes his head, holding the plate closer to Sokka’s fingers, not that he has to move it very far. “No, go ahead.”

Sokka hums, “Thanks, babe,” and quickly liberates Zuko’s plate of the bacon strip.

    Summary

Life can be pretty hard living in a city under a totalitarian regime. Between adhering to the ridiculous curfew, keeping himself from being gunned down by a passing patrolman, and paying his unnecessary tolls to the state for, say, breathing, Sokka has his hands full just getting to work. Add aiding a resistance group on top of that, and Sokka should really be getting paid for this.

Then, one night, Sokka finds an injured patrolman collapsed in the street, who tells him with blood on his lips, “If the patrol finds me, I’m dead.”

In any case, Katara wouldn’t be back at her apartment for another thirty minutes. Sokka told as much to Zuko, who said, “To be fair, I hadn’t thought about texting her beforehand either.”

“I guess we’re both a bunch of dunderheads, eh? A real pair of buffoons.”

    “Couple of dumbasses,” Zuko said.

“Some real Princes of Stupidtown over here.”

    Summary

sokka stretches out a little more and purrs in the back of his throat. he lets the warmth of the sun soak into his bones. firebenders may get their power from the sun and waterbenders from the moon, but sokka isn’t either. he just likes laying in beams of light like… an spirit. or a sleepy performer. or a… hm.

“sunflower,” zuko suggests from somewhere behind him and only then does sokka realize he’d been talking aloud. he laboriously pulls himself into an upright position, taking care not to leave the spot where the sun bleeds through a hole in the foliage above him, and looks over at zuko. the other boy is sitting, forearms braced on his thighs, on an old stone bench. another ray of sunlight- one that sokka hadn’t even noticed- curls around his shoulders. he offers sokka a tired smile. “you’re not pretty enough for a spirit.”

Firebenders are more powerful under the sun, he’d learned, but there’s also something to be said about the way their features suit it better than any other people, the way the light drapes over the face like a veil, the way it plays across their hands like weightless rings, uncapturable riches beyond Sokka’s imagination. Zuko always looks like royalty, but he looks godlike in the sun.
