Summary
Jon wasn’t anything special. He was an ordinary researcher at Bright Eye Watchmen, Inc.; not terribly skilled at his job, and certainly not very likeable, but ordinary. He could be a bit too dedicated to unearthing the truth, at least if you listened to what Tim had to say about it, but Jon tried not to make a habit of doing that.
When Jon catches the attention of Elias Bouchard, head of the local research institute, he finds himself wishing he’d listened to Tim just a little more.
*
Bark-brown, leathery wings pulled away from the creature’s torso, briefly revealing six limbs clinging tightly to the tree trunk above. The eyes that stared down at the man were backlit by a deep, bloody red, except for the pupils. Those were white. Blank, wide, white orbs that watched him.
“What are you?” he whispered.
Jon didn’t know.

Statement of Hazel Rutter.
Jon couldn’t stop reading.
The Fears, however, are a bit more powerful than Jonah gave them credit for. Jon opens the door, but the world can’t hold what’s on the other side.
Time falls through, instead. Past becomes present, and the future is undone.
Statement begins.

Summary
The Institute has fallen, and the claim the Eye laid on its Assistants is shattered past repair. They’re free; but everything comes with a cost. Jonathan Sims was Chosen. That is not a bond easily severed.
(You have to choose to Become. That doesn’t mean you can reject it, and survive.)
Meanwhile, an old elm tree continues to grow before the house of Desolation, as Agnes Montague still struggles against her destiny. By her side, somewhat perplexingly, is a rather shabby goth.
Fate craves its fulfillment, but none of its elect are going down without a fight. And none of them are fighting alone.

In which Jon receives therapy from a dead woman, a staggering number of characters are unbearably hot (in every sense of the term), and the only thing that violates canon is that—well. Just this once, everybody lives.

Summary
Private solicitor Jonathan Sims is a long way from home when, for the first time in decades, he sees something he can’t explain away.
He knows enough to fear the monsters that smile with too-sharp teeth, and knows it’s too late to hope both he and his assistant could survive their stay at Castle Magnus. The only thing he can think is to save Martin.
For once, one of Jon’s plans goes off without a hitch. Martin is saved, and in exchange, Jon’s life is forfeit.
Really, the only mistake he made was assuming that death was the end of the story.

“Are you going to be alright?” Nureyev asked. “Helping with this mission, I mean?”
“Yeah,” Juno said immediately. “Yeah, I’ll be fine. I just—I want them gone. I hate those things, Nureyev. Not just because of the mind control thing. They… They get in your head, long before they ever dig their claws into you.”
Nureyev nodded, and said nothing. Juno didn’t think there was much left to say.
They had to do this.
The THEIA had to die.
…
When old ghosts prove to be less than gone, the Aurinko crime family puts a pause on their quest for the Curemother in favour of preserving the galaxy. But nothing is more insidious than old ghosts; and not everything that dies stays dead.
Sometimes, resurrection can be damning.
What do you do, when you can't get rid of your soul?

Summary
What saves the Replacement’s life that night is how easy it is to break in to Titans Tower. Jason’s not an idiot. His codes still working on one of the Tower’s secret entrances? That's a trap.
In retrospect, he maybe should've done more research. Because it turns out that no one's seen the Joker since February, and Bruce is hallucinating, and the Replacement is actually sort of helpful, and Nightwing's been missing for a year.
And then Deathstroke shows up with his new partner to ask for Red Hood's help killing Scarecrow.

“We were just discussing our quarry for today. Have you ever met the Beast of the Northern Forest?”
“No,” Jon replies. The title does register as somehow familiar in his mind, but he immediately buries the feeling. The last thing he needs is a personal connection to today’s victim.
“You were still very young during the last social season, I suppose,” Elias says. Jon doesn’t respond to the comment, doesn’t allow himself to feel anything about it. Elias continues, “He’s a coveted prize among hunters. Many members of the guild, myself included, have been trying to trap him for years, with no luck. He’s very—”
Jon stops listening.
