    Summary

and there are some like us,
just walking, making our feet move ahead of us,
a little bored, a little lost, a little angry,
walking as though we were really going somewhere,
walking as if there was something to see at Adelaide or maybe on King,
something that will give a fair return for this use of shoe-leather,
something that will make us smile with a strange new
happiness, a lost but recovered joy.

Perfect Patrick, perfect David, perfectly rural and emotional and nuanced and TENDER, my god, the TENDERNESS; required reading for any show fan and actually I'm submitting it to Canada Reads also

“Well, you’re lucky I’m a switch on the dance floor, too,” David mutters. Patrick laughs, helplessly, and buries his face against David’s shoulder, forgetting to care about what it looks like, about what men do or what women do, just doing what feels good, what his body wants to do with David’s body.

David holds him, holds him up.

best toga fic i've found so far!! really tasty characterwork while fleshing out the LoV crew and also having excellent moments like:

The room falls silent. It's all a bit too dramatic for Dabi, and he starts looking for a way out. Maybe a change of topic or a well timed fake phone call. Except then Shigaraki says, "Do you want me to kill your parents?"

“Listen, dude, ya can't use the knife like that, yer gonna chop yer damn fingers off.” He lifts the knife to hover over the board and reaches around to adjust Josuke’s fingers on his other hand. He jerks slightly, but doesn’t push him off, so Okuyasu continues.

“Ya also gotta keep yer fingers pointed down, see?” He gently curls his bro’s fingers so they’re perpendicular to the countertop and presses them back down on the tomato.

“Also, yer not s’posed to saw it like that, just move it down in one slice.” Okuyasu shifts the hand holding the knife back to where Josuke had it before, and slowly brings it down, keeping it in a straight and fluid motion. He demonstrates the technique again, slowly increasing his pace until the whole thing is chopped up into even slices and lets go of his friend’s hands. He backs up and leans around Josuke to get a look at his face, grinning. “Easy, right?”

Josuke stares at him with huge eyes, stiff as a board and absolutely firetruck red.

Pars pro toto is a type of figurative speech—wherein a part of something is used to denote the whole. Of course, the part someone decides to use, happens to also denote their own perception of that whole, reveals what the speaker finds most noteworthy. In picking his parts, Bruno casually ignores the untold quantities of military-grade ammo that Aerosmith carries, Purple Haze’s very existence. Narancia just sees; Fugo just strategizes. What weapons?

Mista’s arrival throws a wrench in this poetic evasion of truth, because it’s nigh impossible—linguistic gymnastics or no—to conceive of his role on the team as anything other than—

“I’m your gun, boss,” he grins, stitching bullet-pockets into the lining of his hat while the Pistols ride around on the blades of their ceiling fan like a rodeo. A barely-healed arrow-wound sits pink and shiny under his Adam’s apple, “you saved my life, man—thirty fuckin’ years—I owe you big time. I’ll be your gun; just point me where you want me.”

    Summary

“Who is that?” asked Tracy. Tracy was May’s least favorite of her orientation friends. She was hoping that Charlie, Lindsey, and Ben agreed, and that they would start doing things without Tracy soon, but she did not know everyone well enough yet to judge whether that suggestion would be well-received.

“It’s my roommate,” May said. “Olivia.”

“I am so sorry,” said Tracy. “What is she even wearing.” Olivia was wearing the same thing she was always wearing, which was a pair of ratty jeans with holes in the knees, heavy combat boots, a t-shirt with an obscure logo, and a leather jacket covered with even more obscure pins. It was a terrible outfit for the warm months. The dining hall was a large, airy room, with ceiling fans on long supports suspended from the high rafters, but it wasn’t air-conditioned, and Olivia was visibly sweating as she picked her way down the aisle towards the condiment bar.

“I really don’t think what she’s wearing is her biggest problem,” May said, absently, watching Olivia absolutely obliterate the hot dog on her tray with a barrage of condiments.

When May was about seven, she realized it had been several months since she had looked after her Pet Rock. Concluding that Angela was absolutely, irrevocably deceased, she resolved to lay her to rest with full honors and threw her in the East River the next time her father took her on the ferry.

Two and a half seconds later, May wanted Angela back.

What May was still learning, fifteen years out, was that dead things seemed alive in absence of evidence they were not. The second the cold, smooth stone slipped under the water, its potential became infinite. Young though she was, May could have warmed Angela in the palm of her hand until she was withered and grey.
