Summary
Riz is in love with Fabian the way he solves his cases and uses his gun and deciphers riddles and shoots people’s fingers off: rational, steady, adventurous, with wit and anxiety, courageous and empathetic. It started somewhere he does not recall and yet, he finds, the thought of extracting it from himself makes him nauseous, sea-sick. So he remains balancing the tides, smelling the air for salt and storm, no land in sight, silver-grey sea foam encompassing him until Riz closes his eyes and drowns.
