Summary
Habuko Mongoose was cursed: she turns everyone she looks at to stone. She had been trying in vein to find a way to lift it, when she's kidnapped by the Dark Lord's Army and held ransom. There, its leader maker her an offer that's more difficult to refuse than it should be: betray her friends, join the army as a spy, and have her curse lifted in return.
Spinner joined the Dark Lord's Army after Stain inspired him to finally fight back against the society that cast him out, but finds himself directionless as the Army's efforts start seeming aimless. He wouldn't call himself a moral person, but it's hard to justify the kidnapping of a civilian when you don't even understand what the point is.
Or: Spinner guards a kidnapped Habuko and they come to an unlikely understanding.
