His palm was long, but not quite slender. Definitely not delicate. Ordinary. Indented by those uneven valleys created by his fingers, the tops of which were blunt and squared. Yuki followed the convexes of his knuckles, down to the depressions between each digit and up again, until he trailed the anomaly of his index finger, sloped inward from some half-remembered, or perhaps just half-spoken of, childhood injury. As he adjusted his light grip, Yuki brushed over the small bump sitting at the base of his friend’s thumb. That tiny birthmark, something he had become simultaneously always aware of and blind to.
A realization came to him, then, accompanied by a strange spark in the back of his mind, that at some point he had burned this hand into his memory. He was already quite familiar with it.
“Results are in,” he said, feeling a short buzz trail down the nape of his neck and over his shoulders before waning. “You’re still… a moron.”
Kakeru groaned as he tugged his hand out of Yuki’s grasp.
Yuki and Kakeru have a long night. Yuki relearns what it means to want.
Yuki rubbed his eyes with his thumb and forefinger. His brows pinched in something like frustration, or maybe pain, and he let out a small groan.
“Don’t be mean.” Kakeru rested his arms on the edge of the desk and bent forward to set his chin on his forearm. From there, he could look up at Yuki, who kept his head low. “It didn’t matter today, though, I guess. Came here for a nap and I couldn’t sleep! I was just bored. But then I was thinking, ‘Hey, what if I just wandered around until I ran into Yun so I won’t be bored anymore,’ and then I thought, ‘What if I just waited for him outside of his class?’ Which would have been funny, because it would have made your weird fangirls mad.”
Yuki lowered his hand from his eyes at that, and he stared at him.
“Why would that make them mad?”
Kakeru paused. At first, he waited for his friend to catch on by himself, waited to see that classic look of annoyance dawn on him, but as that questioning look refused to leave his expression, Kakeru felt something weird flip his gut around.
Kakeru, for once, isn't very tired. Yuki is strangely exhausted. Kakeru tries to help, and is faced with some wayward feelings.

“The heat wake you up?” he asked.
“Huh? Oh, no, I just…”
She paused. She then shook her head and curled her fingers into his shirt, gentle yet needy, as she let her words die. It was an innocuous touch of her’s, something she did so frequently it was almost second nature for her to do it, and for him to feel it. The muscle memory of her fingers grasping him, her nails just barely grazing his skin through the fabric. The ritual of him shaking his head and smiling at her as goosebumps spread along his arms. His heart somehow growing fonder every single time.
And yet this morning, at that touch, he suddenly found himself fighting the urge to step away from her. That warm coil in his chest didn’t disperse as he hoped it would, but rather sunk deeper, down over his ribs and through his stomach. Pooling in ribbons, weighty and relentless. Thick as tar, bittersweet as the darkest molasses.
A lump formed in his throat. He tried to swallow it away.
Don’t make it weird, he thought to himself. He swept a hand over his hair and swallowed again, with little result. Jesus, the heat must be really…
Kyo and Tohru live in the mountains. Kyo deals with some more complicated feelings towards her.
Kakeru sighed, and squirmed again to shift his position so that he, too, sat sideways on the couch, half pigeon-posed and as close to Yuki as he could manage. He leaned an arm across Yuki’s knees, elbow and wrist to each cap, and said,
“Tell me what’s up so that we can watch a movie? And eat snacks while we talk about how cool it is?”
“Only you talk about how cool they are.
“Yeah, but I know you agree with everything I say in the deepest corners of your heart.”
Yuki scoffed briefly at that with a small smile tugging at a corner of his mouth, but as he shook his head the expression left him. Kakeru, in a rare moment of patience, waited for him to speak.
Something's up with Yuki. Kakeru stops by for a visit.

i. Yuki, in general, didn’t cross his mind very often. He may as well have been another one of the ornaments lining the inner estate’s halls.
ii. Blood had never really bothered him. But as it poured from Hatori’s eye, seeped through his fingers and hit the floor in thick drops, he felt something in him churn.
iii. Rin remained stony in the following quiet. The look aged her some years, he thought, or if not that, looked misplaced on her. A child wearing the airs of an adult, caught up in problems within and beyond her.
iv. The name escaped him here, but that woman held God in her belly.
v. The goldfinch stopped perusing the ground and, after some pause, fluttered and hopped to reach her finger. As it perched itself there, she sat back up slowly, careful not to jostle it. It was, Shigure thought, one of those rare moments.
Five scenes from Shigure's life, from his perspective.
