Philip, trying to come to terms with the fact that he was manipulated, lied to and betrayed, has a conversation with Rodrigo, finds out more than he is comfortable with knowing and doesn’t deal with it well. There’s also a letter to Carlos from Rodrigo and we all know that letters in Don Carlo(s) always bring trouble.

In which Philip has insomnia (again), is overwhelmed by his affection for the young marquis, terrified of the Inquisition and should perhaps pay more attention to Rodrigo's anger. Written with the opera events in mind but also references the play so I guess it fits both verses.
