Summary
Clarke has never really gotten used to how cold Northwestern Memorial Hospital is. From the lobby to the helipad, it feels like she’s walking inside a goddamn freezer. All the countless hours she spent inside its soft grey walls, she had spent wrapped in a too thick sweater, more scarves than she probably should, under all the blankets she could steal from nearby rooms.
But right now, she feels heat licking her insides, hot enough to make her sweat in pure, unabashed anger.

Summary
“I’m telling Aden we’re in a relationship tonight,” Lexa says from where she’s leaning against the pillar flanking the kitchen counter, refusing to not be in the same room as Clarke, despite the open floor concept of her apartment, “I’d like for you to be there.”
If Clarke’s hand slips and the next chunk of the carrot she’s roll cutting comes out more something Lexa would do a few years back than an oblique cut, Lexa pretends she doesn’t notice. “Are you sure?”
The vulnerability in her eyes is what gets Lexa. She crosses the distance between them, and Clarke drops her knife a second before Lexa turns her around, her back to the counter. “I want you in his life, and I want him to know what you mean to me— How much you mean to me.”

Summary
Soft lips find their way to your jawline, press gentle kisses on it, tentative ones. You laugh, your eyes still closed, because that hesitation is unfounded. You laugh, and it rings differently, younger than it should be. Which is a silly thought – you’re seventeen, you’re as young as you should be.
You turn your face to your side, so those lips find your smile instead of your jaw. Oh. Oh. You taste the hard cider and a grin that matches yours, and when teeth find your bottom lip, you swear you can see the stars even with your eyes closed.

Summary
Opening the door to her office, Lexa steps inside with apologies falling from her lips. “Ms. Griffin, I’m really sorry for keeping you waiting. I had some hiccups in my morning, I’m usually much more punctual than this.”
The woman settles her phone down and straightens up, lengthening her spine before getting up. All Lexa see is blonde hair neatly combed falling over one shoulder, and she looks away for a moment, quickly putting her bag and planner away on a table by the entryway before meeting her new head of finances.
“There’s nothing to worry about. I’m sure you had a difficult morning,” the words find Lexa before she looks up and her blood turning into ice, little crystals keeping her heart from beating.
That voice.
Lexa knows that voice.

Summary
“Clarke, this is my girl- my fiancée.” Costia links their hands, hiding her face on her fiancée’s shoulder and chuckling as the woman looks at her with a fond smile, “I’m still getting used to it. This is Lexa.”
Lexa.
For a moment, Clarke takes her in, wondering what are the odds that two people have the same unusual name in the same small town. Because the woman who gave her a ride yesterday, with her polished looks and sly smirk, can’t be the same giddy woman standing in front of her with an honest to God cowboy hat on her head.
But something about her eyes- fuck.
If her hair was tucked into a neat low bun, if winged eyeliner was complimenting her green eyes- fuck.
Reaching out her hand for Lexa to take, Clarke hurries to think of something to say, but the woman - Costia’s fiancée - beats her to it. “We’ve met before, actually,” Lexa’s voice is composed as she shakes Clarke’s hand, like it’s not a big deal that they met before.
Forcing a smile and a polite nod, Clarke sighs because truthfully, it is not that big of a deal. If Clarke was smitten by her kindness and quick wit, that’s her own problem and she’ll have to deal with it on her own.

Summary
Nobody ever imagines they'll wind up in a job like this. It just happens. One day, you discover you have an aptitude for doing what needs doing, and places like Polis, Inc. will pay you well for your skills, and then suddenly you're wearing a set of labels that you'll never again be able to shrug off. Contractor. Agent. Assassin. Killer.
You get used to it after a while. Whether you like it or not is irrelevant; something you figure out pretty fast. You get a file, and that's your target. There's no room for your feelings on the matter.
So when Lexa is chosen to bring down none other than Clarke Griffin - a former contractor who mysteriously cut ties with Polis and disappeared - she simply thinks of her as just another target. Just another order to carry out.
And that was her first mistake.
One of many she'll make before this night is through.
