Almost ominously, the tattooed woman opened the door, a stern look on her face, along with a lit cigarette dangling from the corner of her lips.
The woman stared intensely at Gus, her hand resting on the door frame. “Ten p.m.” She said sharply when he set the heavy bags down on the concrete.
“You ain’t here, I’m choppin’ your fucking dick off.”
au; Gus Howard dug himself into a deep hole with Marie O’neil, owing her a little over 10,000 bucks. As reassurance that he’d come back and pay his dues, he leaves the woman with his two daughters- Lexi and Cassie.
After all, what father would abandon his own flesh and blood?
Lexi Howard never fully recovered from being stood up by Fezco O'Neill.
No one heard from him again after his last text to Lexi the night of her play. They all assumed a drug deal had gone wrong and he had to bail quickly.
But not Lexi.
She feared the worst.
She got the shock of her life when 5 years later, builders turned up to work on her home with Fezco in tow.
He looked a little different, hair had grown out a little, tattoos covered his more muscular arms.
But it was definitely him.
So, after recovering from her shock, she asked him the only thing she could think of. "Where were you?"
“Wait, sorry. Let me get this straight. We haven’t talked in, maybe 6 years, like you wanted, and now you decided to call me just to ask for a favor? Correct?” Lexi spoke carefully, slowly, analyzing and scrutinizing every word that was said over the phone.
Another wary laugh came, and Fezco's face burnt red at the straight forwardness of it all, “When you say it like that I sound like a real dick, don’t I?”

Following an 'I love you' confession stemmed from Fezco getting put in prison, Lexi writes Fezco every week for a year, despite getting no response. When Fezco is released, Rue and Jules' wedding is right around the corner, and Fezco needs a date. Lexi is the only girl he knows to ask. The only problem is, they haven't spoken since declaring their love for one another. 6 years ago.
When she was a teenager, one day destroyed Lexi Howard’s entire world. She’s been trying to outrun her past ever since.
She left behind California and her dream of being a writer, swapped them for Chicago and a new dream - Dr. Alexandra Howard, M.D. It was almost enough to make her forget everything she’s lost… until Fezco O’Neill is wheeled into her ER with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, and back into her life.
She’ll get through this, it will be fine. It’s not like they mean anything to each other. Not anymore.
Nobody meets the love of their life when they’re seventeen, right?
