Summary
Sometimes, when their emotions get to be too much, Scotty, Jim, and Bones go drinking on shore leave. It has been their tradition for the past five years. There, in the many bars across the universe, they won't judge when the three start talking about how badass and amazing their loves are. They can be in love in peace, and they can come to terms with the fact they will never be loved in the same way as they love their dear ones.
Because Spock and Uhura have been dating for eight years. Scotty and Jim think something is going to happen on the first shore leave of the second five-year mission that will involve a wedding canopy and some Vulcan drums.
And Bones just watched Chekov get ready for a dinner to meet the parents of his girlfriend.
The three of them think they will never end up with their love, and they smile because Spock, Uhura, and Chekov are happy. No matter how much it hurts. So they drink.
They're wrong.
And Spock, Uhura, and Chekov are all about to prove how wrong they are. As they travel through space to new planets, new people and more missions, Bones', Scotty's and Jim's lives change.

Jim could still heat the echo of it in his mind. In his dorm, laying on his back, staring at the ceiling, Jim’s vision was thick with water. He was bitterly reminded that he didn’t want to be here. He didn’t ask to be here. He hated this place. He hated the xenophobia in a place like this. He hated the human-centric superiority. He hated the people who have the audacity to make fun of him for being clever, they didn’t know Jack shit about being hungry or in pain or genuine grief. He hated being reminded that he just looks so much like George.
Fuck, he hated this place.

Summary
George wooed Winona with Christmas cards when they were at the Academy. Can Jim pull off the same stunt with Spock?
Written for the 2012 ksadvent on Livejournal. Based on this lovely prompt: Winona Kirk was once a feisty career-minded cadet with a love of engineering and no plans to settle down. A deeper relationship with her best friend George Kirk was a temptation she wouldn’t allow herself. Then one Christmas George won her over with a series of 12 days of letters and gifts which proved how well he knew her and how deep his feelings were. He kept up the tradition of writing a letter to Winona every Christmas. Winona discovers her son’s feelings for Spock (on Thanksgiving visit?) and decides it’s the perfect time to give Jim his dad’s letters. Jim is thrilled to learn about George through his letters and inspired to follow his example in order to woo an oblivious Spock. This could be Academy era AU or set aboard Enterprise.
