It’s as a result of this particular ‘gift’ of Jim’s that Leonard was currently standing on the bridge, red-faced and shouting in front of the whole damn gamma-shift.

“It’s like he can’t help himself.” She says around a scoop of Double Bubblegum. Eddie always chooses the worst flavours, but that still isn’t going to stop Robin from nibbling away at his complementary banana split. “He’s a compulsive flirter. It’s weird. I’m worried for him.”
“I’m not.” Eddie sighs softly, kind of dreamily, propping his elbow on table and resting his chin on top of his open palm. “It’s special when he flirts with me, though, right?”
“Don’t flatter yourself.” Robin snorts.

Summary
His heart feels like it’s beating a hundred miles an hour. Eddie groans from the sofa Steve has decanted him on. Nancy and Robin are both trying to bandage him up as best they can, Dustin fluttering anxiously nearby.
Nancy’s practiced hands are skilful, looping lengths of ripped t-shirt around Eddie’s torso and legs and fastening them tight. Blood blooms through the cotton in deep red rosettes.
It’s not until Steve actively looks up - at the trailer’s non-pulsing, non-squelching, perfectly gate-free ceiling - that it hits home.
The gate is closed.

Summary
“You’re sweet, Harrington,” Eddie says like it’s an insult, even though his expression is soft around all the edges.
Steve bites back the question of how long Eddie will be able to tolerate it, that sickly sweetness that clings just a little too much, that wants too much, and smothers everyone it comes into contact with. It’s a self detrimental, consuming train of thought that only spirals downward, and now’s not the time.
Now is the time to take the face in his hands and treat it like something precious, something to be appreciated and touched with tenderness, because for the first time ever, he thinks, there is someone who probably could use some of his overbearing affection.
