Summary
When a person turns eighteen a unique symbol called a soul bond appears on their skin in the form of a tattoo. The mark is supposed to lead you to your perfect mate. That one person in the world who completes every part of you. Sometimes it takes years to find them and some people never do. Others disregard the marks to fall in love the traditional way. Derek Hale never believed in them and that disbelief cost most of his family their lives. At eighteen his soul bond appears and throws everything he thinks he knows out the window.
Stiles Stilinski is not your normal teenager. He's literally magic wrapped up in flailing limbs and Adderall fueled ADHD energy, so the addition of a werewolf Pack and an evil tree doesn't really phase him. What does freak him out is when his magic goes haywire and he forms a soul connection to the grumpiest werewolf in existence. One he's sure wouldn't hesitate to rip his throat out...with his teeth! But Derek already has a soul bond and Stiles is only seventeen. There's no way the two could be related, is there?

She didn't want to be a Dragonrider. She didn't want to be *Searched*. Why couldn't anyone understand that? All she wanted to do was teach and watch the stars with the watch-whers and have everyone just leave her alone. But no one had ever asked her what she wanted and if they had, they certainly didn't listen to her. So, here she was, flat on her back looking up into cool blue eyes with the stars glittering above them and the watch-wher's furious growling coming from behind her.
She knew coming home was a bad idea.

At four years old, they are inseparable. Where Stiles goes, Derek goes. With the exclusion of full moon nights, it is assumed that if Stiles is doing something, Derek will be right by his side. They get Scott and Isaac to build them pillow forts and they wheedle cookies out of Claudia and all around cause havoc wherever and whenever possible. And life, for them at least, is good.It comes crashing down nine years later.

“I know, I just…” Derek trailed off, rubbing his forehead with both hands, frustrated that the right words weren’t coming to him.
“What?” Stiles asked honestly, pulling on one of Derek’s wrists until he could see his expression again.
Derek’s heart pounded in his chest so loud he figured even Stiles could hear it. He inhaled deeply and let the air out slowly through his nose, trying to keep his voice even. “When we take them places, and spend time with them, and make them smile… it feels like…”
“It feels like they’re yours,” Stiles finished for him, licking his lips before snagging the bottom one between his teeth.
“No,” Derek said, taking Stiles by surprise. “It feels like they’re ours.”
“Oh,” Stiles said simply, mouth still slightly open while he contemplated Derek’s words.
Or, the one in which Stiles and Derek have been BCPD partners for years when they are assigned Halloween duty and run into a couple of kids from the orphanage. One fake marriage and two real adoptions later, they somehow become a family.
