They were an 'enjoyment’, people betting for which beast would win and those who fail will die on the hands of the other.
The Beast Arena was not only an inhumane 'sport' but a means to showcase to the world the ability to withhold such beasts. For Taehyung, this has been a normal thing ever since he was born. But when he was finally old enough to see one for the first time, he witnesses that the beasts weren't the ones acting like animals but the people who's captured them instead.
