Summary
Eddie slowly goes to sit across the baby, careful to tuck his tiny legs underneath him. Evan looks up at him curiously as Eddie holds out a hand because it’s what adults do when they meet someone new and they want to be nice.
“Hi Evan. I’m Eddie.”
Wide blue eyes stare at him unblinking for a moment. But then a giggle. Evan started gurgling happily at him, grabbing the older boy's hand as he bounced up and down. Eddie couldn’t help but smile at the tiny baby as he shakes both of their hands enthusiastically.
“Look at him, he’s excited to meet you.” Margaret tells Eddie, a smile evident in her voice.

At least tell me where I went wrong, Buck finally manages to say. His voice a little hoarse from the huge lump that’s lodged itself in his throat. He tries to swallow it down with his beer.
Eddie looks at him for what feels like hours, and Buck has to turn away. He can’t bear to have Eddie look at him like that. He felt utterly vulnerable, utterly broken and cracked wide open. It was getting to be too much with Eddie standing there, seeing everything that Buck was.
You did nothing wrong, Buck. Eddie tells him. His voice a little wobbly at the end. This one is on me, and I’m so so so sorry.

Eddie starts bobbing his head to the song because, hey, it’s a catchy one.

“Yeah, he did.” Bobby was looking at him with concern and mirth equally evident in his eyes. Chim barely suppressing a chuckle.
“A– and did I do the finger guns back?” Eddie was almost too afraid to ask because he already knew the answer to that question.
“Yeah, yeah you did.” Eddie groans. Bobby fondly shakes his head. Chim rolls his eyes.

Summary
Today, he wakes up with Eddie half on top of him, head resting on Buck’s chest, his thigh thrown over Buck’s, holding him close with his fingers fitting into the spaces between Buck’s ribs. It feels forbidden to dip his chin just so, enough to hide his face in Eddie’s hair, to breathe him in.
All of it feels forbidden, but Buck does it anyway. He keeps doing it, keeps taking, because the measures are relaxing and Eddie misses Christopher and all of this is so painfully temporary. He keeps taking for as long as he’s allowed, and they don’t talk about it, ever, just roll out from under the covers.
in which love is finally allowed to exist in the light of day.
