Summary
“Hypothetically, David. Not about us, not about me. Just as a concept. Conceptually, what do you think about marriage?”
David swallows. “Why?”
“Because it’s what you do.” Patrick goes back to his laundry, goes back to folding his fucking underwear like he didn’t just corner David halfway into a panic attack. “When you’re in a relationship, at some point, you gotta have The Talk. It’s not a plan; it’s just to see if you’re on the same page.”
David sniffs, hoping it comes across as unimpressed. “Sounds fake.”David’s never really thought much about marriage. He’s never had a reason to, before.
Patrick gives him a reason.

Summary
He should stop. Patrick knows he should stop. Hell, he knows he should have stopped a good ten minutes ago, at this point.
But he doesn’t want to stop, is the thing.
Besides, he’s not even sure he would know how to at this point. He doesn’t remember the words for… that, for whatever he was just thinking. He’s sure there’s a word for it, but it’s one of the words that his brain has long-since shoved aside to make room for more important ones, like oh my god holy shit harder more please please please, and, David. Most importantly, David.Or, Patrick learns how to want.

Summary
To him, it’s like fabric. He’s not sure that makes sense, but that’s how it feels. It doesn’t come to him as one big, normal thing. It comes to him as scraps of fabric. Adelina compliments him on his report card, and that’s a scrap. Mom brushes his hair off of his forehead, and that’s a scrap. Dad buys him a tie so they’ll match at the Christmas party this year, a scrap. Alexis hides behind him when the paparazzi get too close on the street, scrap.
Problem is: he doesn’t know what to do with them.Affection is tricky. And David was never taught how to sew.

Summary
Patrick loves waking up. It’s the absolute worst a person can possibly be, and it’s unavoidable. Bad breath and ruined hair and rumpled clothes and goop-crusted eyes and maybe some morning wood, just to kill that last shred of dignity. It’s messy, and it feels ugly, and Patrick loves it. He loves it. He loves getting to feel gross, imperfect in a way that can’t be helped. He loves being trusted with the vulnerability of getting to see it, being given the worst, the most artless a person can be. Patrick has always known that there’s nothing more beautiful than watching someone sleep next to him, nothing better than the feeling of waking up with them in the morning.
He is so, so unprepared for the feeling of waking up next to David Rose. -

Parker doesn't understand why it has to be more complicated than: "I want to be with you, I just don't want to sleep with you." It's everyone else who has the problem. (Parker as biromantic asexual)

Summary
David’s eyes flick between Jocelyn and the stocky man in a blue button-up who is currently browsing his store. David prides himself on knowing every single one of his customers, which is why this man stands out—David has never seen him before.
He does his best to focus his attention on Jocelyn—she’s one of his best customers, or rather, one of his most frequent. She comes in about once a week, looking for a potion or spell to undo yet another curse that has befallen Roland. David had thought—or hoped—that after the fourth time, Roland would learn to stop pissing off the wrong people, but there’s been no such development. Though it aggravates David, he has to admit that Roland’s stupidity turns a decent profit.-
Or: David is a witch. Patrick is in the market for a love potion.

Summary
“Oh, *Patrick*,” he repeats. “You were talking to my dad earlier. You’re the, um, the town curator, or the conductor-”
“The mayor,” Patrick corrects gently, still grinning.
“The mayor,” David echoes. “Like Bloomberg.”
“Yes,” Patrick says, and the way he tucks his hands into his pockets and grins even wider, he’s clearly peacocking, poor thing. “Yeah. Exactly like Bloomberg.”

Summary
David can feel the words bubbling up his throat: ‘I kissed Patrick, I kissed Patrick, I kissed Patrick.’ All the joy and hope and anticipation from last night is fizzing under his skin, almost drowning out the skin-crawling knowledge that there’s a dead body just a few doors down, but then he hears his dad’s raised voice from next door and their conversation from yesterday comes flooding back to him. What if Patrick agrees that mixing a business relationship and a romantic relationship is a terrible idea? He was the one, after all, who asked if they could talk tomorrow. The last thing David wants to do is tell Alexis that they kissed and then have to explain to her that oh, actually, it’s not going to turn into anything.
