Summary
He’s feeling less and less like a person and more a concept, like a vague shift of air that’s been trundled into someone’s secondhand clothing and pawned a dog somewhere along the way. The leash has become unbearably tight around his hand, so much so that it’s digging sharp into the flesh between his thumb and palm, so he takes his eyes off the path for a moment to unwind it which proves to be a big mistake because not a second later he’s hit by a sudden, sinking feeling of dread.
And, incidentally, a very large dog.

And until then she’s going to wallow in her feelings regarding the revelation that Luz knows how to knit, apparently, and that she seems to be really good at it too if the speed and four needles she’s working with now are any indication. Amity knows nothing about knitting apart from what it looks like; she wonders if Luz would tell her about it if she asked, if her eyes would light up like they do when she’s excited, if she would smile in that warm way she does that Amity doesn’t understand and can never quite replicate, no matter how often she finds herself standing in front of the mirror and trying and trying and trying.

The shadow on the wall is frozen in place, formless and loose and barely recognizable as human save for the jut of the head and the slant of a shoulder and then the silhouette of a single hand stuck out from its side, splayed so that all five fingers are visible. You stare at it for a moment and it does not stare back at you but you can feel eyes boring into the side of your head regardless, and then from somewhere behind you there’s a muffled curse and the sound of frantic, fast footsteps as the shadow breaks from its standstill and hurries down the hall.
You turn on your heel. And lo and behold, right there with a bag slung over her shoulder and her red-brown hair slicked back with sweat, with a sword strapped to her back and all the panicked energy of someone who’s obvious escape attempt has just been thwarted is Gideon Nav.

But bad days, angry college students, etc. Life has a strange sense of humor, and Yamaguchi has an outlook on it befitting a person with a glass half-full, if that glass were half-full of Powerade and therefore devoid of any optimism. So it goes. He panics, and he gets Powerade. By the time his cup’s filled he’s sick of everything and everyone but most of all himself, so he scurries away from the machine and heads over to the chairs, and as he does so he’s sure to keep his shoulders hunched and his head down which turns out to be a bit of a mistake, because the next thing that he knows he’s running into someone and spilling his (bright blue, lukewarm) Powerade all over some poor soul’s white shirt.

Summary
They’d been playing baseball (some of them better than others) and Mihashi had been a touch too enthusiastic in his dive for a stray ball. Now he’s strung out on the ground and flexing his hand inside of a baseball glove- worn brown leather, molded to hands slightly larger than his own and rife with broken seams- and looking down in wonder at the baseball tucked within it. It’s dirty gray struck through by red, dirt smeared over its edges and the logo half-concealed; his world spun out of orbit and stopped in the palm of his hand.

Akaashi regretted a lot of things. He regretted removing his soulmate tattoo, he regretted choosing an English major, and he regretted not ever going to the coffee shop downtown because he was too anxious to order. Most of all, he regretted telling himself he'd never fall in love with the three boys sitting across from him.
