    Summary

“To think you said he was grown up less than an hour ago,” Lan Wangji chides, kissing Wei Ying’s fingers as Wei Ying wraps one long leg around his. “Our A-Bao, grown!”

“Well, he's much bigger than he was when he came to us,” Wei Ying says cheerfully. “Do you remember? We could still fit him in a basket, back then.”

“We could fit him in a basket now, if we found one big enough.”

Three years after their wedding, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian meet on a rooftop to face their troubles together.

    Summary

Lan Xichen makes offerings for the child and for his mother, Qin Su: fresh-baked osmanthus cakes because A-Song loved them, and gentians because A-Su had some in her garden, and sweet sticky rice with dragon fruit because it was their very favorite food, once upon a time.

Xichen had liked it too, but he could never stomach sweet rice or dragon-fruits after A-Song was gone.

“It’s er-bofu again, A-Song,” he whispers now, adjusting the the sticks of incense and kneeling in front of the tablets. “I’m sorry I keep bothering you, A-Bao. But it’s been fourteen years today since you left us, so you must be alive in the world somewhere else now, mustn't you?”

On the fourteenth anniversary of Jin Rusong's death, Lan Xichen is delayed on the way to lunch with his family.

    Summary

“You remember that she was born crying, and that I brought her to you—and then she met your eyes, as if she knew who you were, before she grew quiet?”

“I’d have been more surprised if she didn’t,” Wei Wuxian says loyally, kissing Chunyang’s round cheeks and then the tip of her nose. “What were those ten months for, if not to teach her what I sounded like?”

“Perhaps she had some important business to tend to before she arrived.” Lan Zhan sounds perfectly serious, and the joke thrills Wei Wuxian so much that he kisses him as hard as he can. “I only heard your voice once before I fell in love with it, Wei Ying. How could our little ones be any different?”

Wei Wuxian opens his mouth and then closes it again.

    “Lan Zhan!”

(Or: Wei Wuxian spends a lifetime making things. His family is no exception.)
